I enjoy this place, especially on my way to grab a cup of joe and their yummi croisants. Service is friendly, but can have long waits on weekends. They make a good cappuccino, one of the better ones in SD. I would give the place 5 stars, if they were to work on the service, speed and efficiency rather than talking about how good the waves with their buddies. I like my espresso smooth with complex flavor profiles and notes of caramel that pair well with cream. As far as that goes this is as good as it gets. They roast their own beans on site and I would highly recommend buying a bag or two on your visit. The food is fine, the staff is friendly, the brewed coffee is okay. Cool little location and nice staff but they're always running out of food. Especially croissants meaning no breakfast sandwiches unless you want it on a bagel. I now skip the place it's happened so much. Its just not worth driving someplace to eat, only to get there and find you can't order your favorite sandwich. Awesome coffee shop in the Leucadia area. Very impressed with everything. Excellent quality coffee, friendly service and very well-designed interior layout and decor. Great place - everything about it - so Luecadia / Encinitas - Laid back with artsy, classy atmosphere and music on the perfect patio. Best Chai Latte in the area...Food decent too, and friendly people work there. Come see the large iconic Surfing Madonna on the building wall that backs the patio. I've come to this coffee shop a few times and have had good experiences, however, on February 1st 2020, I had gone inside to order my latte while my wife waited outside at the outdoor seating area. After ordering I went back outside to sit with my wife. Then after a few minutes I went back in to grab my order. Wen I came back outside I found my wife standing there upset because one of the staff members began stacking all of the chairs and asked everyone outside to get up off of their chairs because they were about to close. I completely understand stacking the chairs that no one is using, but she asked a family, who had an elderly family member, to get off of the chairs because they were closing. I've worked at a restaurant before and we all knew that we should never ask people to leave just because it's closing time. And its not like it was 15 minutes after closing time... or even 5 minutes! It was literally 5pm and she was telling people to get off of there chairs! I hadn't even received my order and she was asking people to leave. This was completely unacceptable. My latte tasted very good by the way, but I still will not be coming back for another. read more

Good place good atmosphere met some business partners there last week the coffee was ok but the layout in the atmosphere or definitely very nice my only minor complaint was for all the staff that seem to be there no one really seemed to be doing much. I know its a cafe so they're not considered waiters but the only time we talked to any staff was when we walked up to ask for something. Just thought a little extra attention from any of the five or six bored guys behind the counter i would have given a perfect 5 stars. Good place for coffee and a Danish or croissant. To start, I used to go to Miracles Cafe in Cardiff 2-3 times a month. When it closed, the main cook, Jose, told me he was going to open a restaurant in the next few years. So 1-2 years ago he opened Cafe Ipe. It's cool because some of the menu items are the same, but here's my beef... 1) They always run out of stuff. I mean, if you get there at 9:45AM there's a pretty good chance they won't have bagels, english muffins and/or croissants. All of these things go into menu items so it's a double drag. 2) They will not work with you on the menu for a single thing. First example: they have bacon on the menu but you can't sub it for anything that has ham or turkey. Or vice versa. Second example: my wife has allergies and she simply asked to have one of their scrambles with ham and eggs only (hold the sprouts, tomatoes, salsa, etc). They wouldn't even let her take off the other items on the plate to simply serve her ham and eggs, for the same price!!! Whaaaaat? 3) If you get there 10-minutes before they close they make sure they tell you that they are closing in 10-minutes. Kind of like they would really not like to have to make your order. Now it does get two stars because... 1) The coffee is amazing. Jose obviously brought over the Miracles' secrets to great coffee. Americano heaven. 2) The place is great to chill, inside or out. Good vibe. 3) Close enough to other places that if they run out of what you want, you can go eat somewhere close! Doh! read more

I went today for the first time and my experience was awesome. I got the Nitro coffee and it was great...I highly recommend it! The outdoor seating is big and covered by trees. The potential is palpable but... Roasting your own coffee, and in view of customers, is as close to an end to end experience as most of us will get. Fun to watch the process then enjoy the results. But Café Ipe is let down both by the customer service experience and the average coffee served. This is my 2nd visit, but my 1st review, both times I have felt unwelcome or perhaps an annoyance to the staff. They just don't seem to be happy at all, no smiles, no real interest. Some cafes get away with that as they produce exceptional coffees but I cant say that about the latte and macchiato I ordered on my two visits. One of the first things that is obvious is how quickly the water pours through the head when an espresso shot is pulled - the grind is wrong! It is a simple thing to learn and get right. Café Ipe could be great with a few tweaks, its a great location with plenty of seating (in & out) and have seen live music on the weekends, but pay some respect to the roast and take some care with the shots. read more

Went w a group of friends Everyone else got their cooked food first, despite the fact that i just ordered yogurt Two different servers came to ask if we had a yogurt, but they never brought mine I see a yogurt being delivered to someone way after us in line, and asked the server, who was totally clueless Went inside to ask, was told to wait About 10 mins later manager and server go up the the table where the yogurt was delivered, pick it up and give it to me. There is an outside patio but they have taken to having live music there on the weekends. I went there hoping to have a coffee and read last Saturday and a group of Hansen-like boys playing earsplitting music out on the patio completely dominated the space, so much so that you couldn't really even have a conversation if you wanted to. When a patron walks in the door and asks for a drink "for here", please don't tell them "we close in 15 mins so we'd like to make your drink to go!". That's just plain rude! On a separate occasion, I walked in some 20 mins before closing time and was told I couldn't get an espresso drink because it was closing time and they already cleaned the machine out.
