I so want to love this shop. It's in walking distance for me, nice seating inside and out, nice design and live music. The coffee is good at a b+. However, it falls short on service. I have been there 5 times since they opened and the wait to get served is just to long. No one seems to have a scene of urgency to customer service. I do not expect the high level of efficiency you get at Starbucks. I am talking about being noticed standing on line and being asked for your order. I ordered food twice and it was never served until I got up and asked where it was. Even just waiting for coffee no one behind the counter seems organized and sees you waiting. They really need a experienced manager to step in and step up. read more

My friend and I met up at Coffee Coffee on Sunday to catch up. Parking was a tad challenging as it was the weekend but it wasn't too bad as people were coming and going from the beach. I liked how this place has an indoor and outdoor options for patrons. There was a variety of activity - study groups and people hanging out with friends and dogs (yay dog friendly!) Since it was a beautiful day, my friend and I sat outside in the shade and it was quite enjoyable! As far as coffee goes....the baristas really know their stuff. I got an iced dirty chai and I loved how it was a delicious balance of caffeine and sweetness. I tried my friend's cold brew and it was on point - perfect for a hot day! It's funny - this place is actually a great looking spot - its exactly how you'd want a coastal coffee shop to look/feel. And the coffee is quite good - strong, authentic and made with flavor. The food too. No complaints on either front. The problem and the reason why its 2 star and not 5 for me, is the service. It sucks. We've been here so many times over the past few months (b/c we live down the street) and after every order at the register, we simply laugh to ourselves about how rude the staff is. We've been brushed off after ordering and leaving generous tips, we've been ignored when saying please or thank you, we've been more or less laughed at when we've come back in with their cup (per Ipe's own policy) that would result in a discount on a new cup. Background: When we ordered and paid (full price) and then asked about why no discount, the response was "oh. sorry." And then an awkward stand off of sorts where we kept waiting for someone to smile and say "just kidding, here you go." But nope, just one of those moments, where the customer isn't always right. Or in Ipe's case, ever. Oh. Ok. I guess we're sorry too. Such a cool spot and such potential to be 'great' but until customer service & relations is as much a priority as good coffee, this place will only be 2 star. read more

My friend Dave Thomas owns this place and the surf shop next door. I live about 35 mins south of Encinitas, but every time I pass by going north on the 5, I try stop in for a cup of coffee or a treat. Their gluten free cookies are amazing and the dirty chai lattes are the best. I promise that I'm not just saying that because my friend owns the place - it's just the reason I went out of my way to try it! It is a little pricey ($5.75 for a large dirty chai latte), but way worth it compared to paying the same-ish price for a chain store like Starbucks. Plus the ambiance is super cool and they have their own roasting machine right on the premises. Super dog friendly and outdoor patio seating apleanty. first off I just want to say that I did in fact just step on a really hard piece of macaroni rn and it may be impairing my judgement. I would like to point out that their dirty chai is sent from the heavens above and tastes like Morgan Freeman's voice is sliding down my throat. I would also like to point out that I got an acai bowl here once and low and behold....... a little tiny bit of tuna had made its way onto the watermelon piece that garnished it. Adorable little coffee house with a lovely outside seating area. Live music in the morning on the weekends but the line for food is long! Coffee is really freaking good! My bizarrely specific coffee order (a large brewed coffee with two add shots of espresso and an inch and a half - insert hand motion for physical representation - of steamed soy, extra foamy) was made to PERFECTION the very first time. A rare feat. Newly frequented coffee shops rarely get this custom beverage right on the first try but Cafe Ipe NAILED IT! Been drinking the Revolution Roasts back at the house recently and enjoying it immensely! It's a cute local shop that brings me back to nostalgia city of when I lived back in Boulder, CO and independent coffee shops were all the rage. Not as common here in So Cal (and particularly up in OC where I live). Dog friendly as well! read more

Coffee Coffee is my go-to, most favorite coffee shop in Encinitas. The staff is always beyond friendly and welcoming which brings joy to my days. Their chai tea latte is also my favorite chai tea latte, not just in Encinitas, but of every chai tea latte I've had! Very convenient (and slightly problematic) that it's just down the street from me. This is one of my two favorite spots to sit and enjoy some coffee. Once the staff began to recognize me, they all started to speak more like acquaintances to me, rather than just retail staff. I usually get their daily brewed coffee, which sometimes is a little dark for me, but I love the setting so much that I'll deal with it. Everything seems to be made from quality ingredients, and I believe their "wheat-free" products are actually gluten-free, but I think I was told that there's a potential for a little cross-contamination, so they only say "wheat-free" to be on the safe side. I have a serious gluten allergy, and after eating one of the WF cookies, I didn't feel any of the usual effects that I do from gluten. Back to the setting, I've been on vacation to a surf town near Puerta Vallarta (Sayulita) a couple times, and I definitely get some of the Mexican surf vibe from this place, which I really like. I think they've designed the place quite well, and I sometimes use the bar area for doing homework, on which there's plenty of room for my laptop, a textbook and notebook. Oh, and they also host live music performances, several of which I've enjoyed. They tend toward mellow rock and blues, so that's a score. read more

I'm always on the lookout for new coffee shops and Cafe Ipe is a great find! I work remotely a couple days a week so I look for a place that is comfortable and inviting to get some work done. I loved this place - the atmosphere is great & there were several other people in here working as well. I liked that there was ample seating indoor and outdoors. The indoor seating is set up on a long, thick wooden bar, which is cool and different. The outdoor seating has several covered tables for shade and the seats are made of a plastic wicker that is much more comfortable to sit on than the typical medal outdoor seating you find at starbucks and other places. Wifi is free and reliable. Coffee was excellent and VERY strong. I actually got the "i'm high on caffeine" coffee shakes from it! I just wish they would open a location in La Jolla! read more

Usually the cool cafe's tend to make us normal people feel not hipster enough to set foot in such a place as aesthetically and orally pleasing as Cafe Ipe...but... This place is rad. The staff have always been welcoming they and pull a bad ass espresso that I try my darnedest to sip slowly. The little cup of rocket fuel gives me enough zoom to head up to Beacons to check the surf and then through the streets for a great run with Pipes, my pup. I love the atmosphere here and this used to be my favorite coffee shop, but lately it's gone a little downhill. There are a couple of people that work there that are not very friendly. And then there are some that are super, super friendly. Unfortunately, I always get the guy who's seems annoyed that he has to take my order (he has a pony tail or bun). Twice I've asked for my latte for here and then they'll give it to me in a to-go cup. Might not sound like a big deal, but I always try to cut down on trash wherever I go, but regardless, it just means he's not listening. I also asked the same guy what the wifi password was, once again, he looked annoyed and just pointed to the sign on the register which apparently, I was stupid enough not to see. Sorry dude! However, the guy that roast the beans, don't know if it's always the same guy, is super nice. Overall, I think they could improve their customer service. Especially when there's Sugar and Lofty right down the street and the people that work there are always cheerful and a pleasure to be around. Another thing that REALLY annoys me is that they charge extra for stuff like almond milk. I'll order thinking it's the price on the menu, then it will be like a buck more. I finally asked and he said, almond milk is more expensive than regular milk so when we're charged more, we have to charge you more. Give me a break, no where else does this! The atmosphere here is nice and they always play the best music so I have to give props for that. Overall I really do love this place, but I haven't really wanting to go back mainly due to the customer service. I hope they step it up because it is a cool little spot. read more

Coffee Coffee is walking distance from my house, so it's very convenient when I need to grab something for breakfast. I usually get the vanilla latte which some days is great, while other days it's a little watered down. I also usually get the garden bagel which is great, but could use a bit more cream cheese when served. All in all the establishment is laid back and the staff is very friendly. Its nice that you can plop down and use the wifi for as long as you want and not be bothers... just get there early because this Place always seems to have a lot of foot traffic. :) read more

I've been here quite a few times and can't believe that I haven't had a chance to review it just yet. I've had their bagels, their acai bowl, their sandwich, and their chai. All of them have been awesome and definitely leave me wanting more. This time around I ended up getting a chai, which was perfect since it got really cloudy and chilly all of a sudden and I needed something to warm me up. Instead of milk, I got almond milk. The chai was relatively good, and on the less sweet side. I'm sure I'll be back to have some more chai at some point ;). In terms of ambience, it was pretty quiet today, but I think it was mainly since it was close to closing time and everyone was sitting indoors. Usually when I have been here there is an even conversation so you don't feel awkward while talking. I did feel a bit awkward today, but it was completely fine ;). The staff is really friendly, as well. I would recommend that the fans be turned off when it gets chilly or some heaters be bought for the inside as well, since the door is usually open! read more

Similar to other reviewers feelings, I really want to love this shop. I thought the coffee was solid, but I am spoiled by lofty. I know it sounds dumb, but I was expecting some cool foam art in my latte, and nothing. The place has a cool laid back vibe, it just wasn't so laid back when I went this morning. I guess I kind of wanted my experience in this coffee shop to be peaceful, and calm, and there were about 12 screaming crying kids that kind of ruined that haha. This place gets 5 stars for a few reasons. Most importantly, they CARE about coffee. My in-laws and I were on a road trip recently. They actually met the roasters sitting on the plane and insisted that we all visit their shop. They roast their own beans and will happily explain the process to anyone who is willing to listen. After speaking with them for a while about how I am trying to do some home-roasting of my own, they actually gave me a sample of their green un-roasted beans on the house. The service was great, and of course, the taste and quality of the coffee demonstrated their understanding and love for the art of coffee. If I'm ever back in that area of San Diego, I know where I'll be getting my morning espresso! :) read more

I've been to Coffee Coffee many times but today I ordered an Iced Latte with Coconut milk and a pump of lavender syrup! I normally don't add flavoring to my coffee but I love a good lavender latte. The only thing I would suggest is putting the syrup flavors up on the board or menu because I only knew they had it by looking at the bottom of the case where they stock their extra syrups. The breakfast croissant (on gluten-free​ bread) is also very good! It can get busy on the weekends so seating can get sparse and limited but service is fast. Don't forget to pick up your beverage at the counter, it won't come out with your food! read more

I've been to this place a few times, have always enjoyed the environment and good coffee. Yesterday I was having coffee when the manager came and started hassling a client. The customer was on his laptop, drinking coffee and minding his own business. The owner literally got in the customers face and told him to leave or he'd call the police. The customer was polite and courteous, yet packed up and left. The customer and everyone in the place were horrified! Not sure what the problem is but there are other options for coffee in Encinitas where management doesn't wash dirty laundry in the middle of the store. This place felt very authentic. We had an açaí bowl. It was a little icier than I am used too but it was very tasty. We also had a fantastic almond croissant. It was also not traditional. It was almost crispy (rather than light and fluffy) and had a ton of almond filling with real almonds. The coffee was also tasty. Thee service was really personal and friendly. read more

I stop in here once a week for the Dawn Patrol breakfast sandwich and a coffee. Dawn Patrol = english muffin, turkey, egg, tomato, cheese. Its a great sandwich made with quality ingredients. Their coffee is the same, great quality. The place is kind of big for a coffee shop. They have local artists featuring on the walls and other nifty creations about. It has a great vibe and good outdoor seating courtyard. I really like this place. EDIT: and now it is the home of the famous Surfing Madonna mosaic! read more

I love this place, they have great little patio so on nice days you can sit outside. Sometimes we actually go and work there for awhile, nice change of pace. The smell of fresh coffee brewing is wonderful. They have a nice selection of pastries to go with your coffee or tea. They also have a great little menu. We love the IPE Scramble for breakfast, and the IPE Chef Salad for lunch. We have enjoyed everything we have tried there. The service is always good and friendly. This coffeehouse roasts their own beans and takes time preparing each order. This is how coffee should be prepared. All three of us had something different. One of us had an Americano which was very well prepared. Another had a latte which had the right balance of milk to coffee allowing the espresso shot to push through the milk. This can be rare in a latte. The third person ordered an iced green tea. This was made properly in that the tea was brewed at the correct temperature, allowed to cool a bit, and then iced. She had to wait a bit while this was prepared therefore it was very tasty. It is important to note that my husband and I are admitted "coffee snobs." He roasts his own coffee beans, so we have fresh coffee everyday. We also brew coffee using most methods: pour over, clever dripper, siphon, cold brew, and using an espresso machine. Because we do all of this at home, we are often underwhelmed when we go out for coffee. This was not the case at Coffee Coffee. If you are in need of a good cup of coffee, stop here. You won't be disappointed. read more

This little coffee place is very hidden! I posted a photo of the entrance because as you can see, "Revolution Roasters" and their address was nowhere to be found. It's next to a surf shop called "Surfy, Surfy", and a few doors south of "papagayo" restaurant. It's a good sized place with shady outside tables, a very pleasant spot to have some coffee and chat. Of course, the coffee is great! I had an americano, wasn't bitter and it was pleasantly strong. I didn't have time to purchase some coffee beans, but I will go back to try their Oaxacan and the Guatemalan, which are usually my favorite beans. The staff was nice and our coffees came out immediately, maybe because we missed the rush hour. I hope they're successful! Their being so hidden and not easy to find might be something they should consider fixing. read more

This is such a great coastal coffee hang out! It's connected to surfy surfy surf shop but I haven't really checked out that side of the house. At the coffee shop there's a variety of seating either along the bar where they roast coffee or small tables inside or patio outside. There's a nice tree and other landscaping surrounding the patio... It kind of breaks up the fact that you're right on 101 highway. They have some amazing food as well, but today I wanted to tell you about the iced chai latte. It's great! I substituted whole milk for almond milk and I enjoyed it just the same. There's a heat wave coming, and an iced drink is really what you're going to need this weekend! Whatever you get, you're not going to go wrong. Cafe Ipe is a little cafe located in the surf-oriented city of Encinitas. They serve espresso, cappuccino, mocha, coffee, iced coffee, etc. They have coffee beans imported from all different places of the world and I'd say that all of the employees are very knowledgable and very passionate about their coffees and how to make them. Along with their selection of coffees they also serve very beautiful plates of food which can include omelets, sandwiches, pastries, and more! The place itself is beautifully decorated with local artists hanging on the walls, cafe style chairs and a huge bar. I assume a lot of people go there for the outside seating area where you'll find plenty of chairs and sometimes live music all surrounding a tree called an Ipe. read more
