The smell of freshly roasted beans will give you an endorphin high. Revolution Roasters made this location their official roasting place. An absolute plus for the people who live in Leucadia! Bf loves his brew and what better time to visit a non chain coffee shop than when you're on vacation in San Diego and in need of a cold one. I ordered their grande (oops! medium!) decaf iced americano and it was the perfect sip while we were sitting in their outdoor patio underneath the shady tree on a warm afternoon. Add a pastry or two to complete the "this is the good life!" feel. read more

I'm not really a "coffee shop" type of person...that is, until I found this gem. I started off buying decaf beans from here to grind/enjoy at home. Then I happened to order a "Dirty Chai" one day and I was hooked immediately. Jose is the BEST. He really is one of those people that knows how to genuinely connect with everyone. I'm always so happy to see his face when I come in. I have yet to try food items but from the looks and smells while I am there normally, it looks delicious. Very cool spot. NIce staff and if you check out my pic, they made me a heart on my coffee. I am sure they do this often but how nice to grab your Capp and see a heart! Large space inside as well as outdoors. They are also attached to Surfy Surfy, a surf shop that has cute tees. The coffee is fantastic too and they have yummy eggs! read more

Loved it. The best coffee i have had in a while and extremely reasonably pricing if you want to buy the beans by the pound or 1/2 pound - regardless of the varietal of the bean. We had 2 double espressos and i had a coffee of the day " coconut mocha" - with tip - all 3 under $10! Seems to be a favorite of the locals which tells me we found a good thing. Conveniently located next to the winery in the event you need a bit of sobering up. read more

Pink trees and music nights...and a cup of coffee served with grace. Cafe Ipe is very hip! Also represents the spirit of Leucadia/Encinitas very nicely and it is a pleasure to see life passing by at the terrace, listening to the music and enjoying something sweet and savory. This is one of the nicest coffee shops you can get in the area, forget Starbucks! read more

I would completely come back and hang out here. Had a great beach vibe with lots of outdoor seating right along the 101. I enjoyed the hour I spent reading here immensely. They have a nice wall of all their roasts with good descriptions. They are well tagged for which work best with your preparation method. However, the espresso was disappointing. Two shots, burned to a crisp, not even worth drinking. It was so obvious they were burned when they were served that I am surprised the barista did not just re-pull them right away. So, flavor wise I cannot tell you much about their espresso since it was ruined. My suggestion for coffee here would be get something that doesn't use the espresso machine - maybe a pour over. Go for the great vibes not the coffee. read more

Besides the attractive Surfing Madonna outside Cafe Ipe and live jazz band on Sunday's, Cafe Ipe was just A-Ok for me. Our egg muffin breakfast was cold and jasmine latte was not the best. It's just another coffee shop joint. Wish I could say more. read more

I don't drink coffee, so you should probably skip over this review if you're wondering how it is. I'll talk about the place, the people and the food, but I got nothing for coffee. We have a few spots locally that the lady and I visit for weekend morning breakfasts, teas and coffee for her. We think like this one the best. The Dawn Patrol Sammich is pretty awesome. It's the perfect size egg sammich with cheese and tapatio. The lox bagel dish is also quite tasty. The food usually comes out quick and the person is friendly. They did switch to making the Dawn Patrol cold for a while, but they fixed that and then started to make them scrambled, which I am not a fan of. I ask for it over medium how it was originally. That seemed to be the best. The people that work there are friendly. Every now and then someone's a little pissy or slow, but you get that at most businesses, no? I've found the owner (I think he's the owner) is a pretty outgoing dude that will make things right if anything goes astray. The weekend morning patio is a pretty great spot too. There's always some local performer or group playing some music. I've found most of them are enjoyable . They have a pretty good selection of teas both non and caffeinated. You will often see them roasting their beans for the coffee in the corner. It's pretty neat to watch although the machine can be pretty loud if you're inside trying to have a conversation. We've managed to power though. read more

I had an excellent pot of French press coffee. The staff was friendly and helpful and didn't mind answering questions about their roasting opertionl. The tables outside are nice. I'll make a point of stopping here next time I'm in Leucadia. P.S. Does anyone know what "Leucadia" means or why this place is named Leucadia? What kind of word is it? read more

Cafe Ipe just opened in Leucadia, next to Surfy Surfy (same owners). The set up is pretty nice, with glass cases displaying fresh pastries and the coffee roaster in full view! They roast their coffee a few times a week, which is a great process to watch. I had one of the best cappuccinos of my life and a heart shaped sugar cookie. Holy moly, I am going back! Plus, free wifi for customers. Their barista was very knowledgeable and friendly. But that coffee is insane! So good. They serve up a few sandwiches and colorful lunch items. Cookies, pastries, etc from VG's and also gluten free options. I'm sure they are still working out some kinks and will have a grand opening in the near future, but this place is going to be my spot! Cafe Ipe... named after the tree planted in the front. Ahhh who doesn't love a good coffee? One suggestion- Pandora Radio 24/7. read more

I've set myself up at the coffee bar near the roaster for many a writing sesh, for meetings and musings. It's quiet, much more so than some over cafes in the area-and although there are not many plugs it's got a great vibe and you don't feel like they're rushing you out the door. The coffee is flavorful but seems a little bitter to me, maybe it's just that the roast isn't my cup of tea. I enjoy the little breakfast plates they put together, fruit, meats and cheese and a bagel-very euro. I feel like this place is quintessential Leucadia-From the decor to the live music sometimes in the evenings and on weekends. Visiting from north Orange County and staying down the street from this coffee house. Cashier was very friendly and the baked goods were delicious! I had an almond danish that was AMAZING. We also had the fresh brewed Guatemalan coffee...very smooth. Seemed like a very friendly, hometown coffee pit stop. We will definitely return when in the area. read more

Came here to get some work done on my laptop. There are not many power outlets but there are a few for those who need it. I came fully charged laptop and sat at the bar which overlooked their coffee machinery. I order their drip coffee. Decent price and flavorful beans. Plenty of seating inside and out. Surprisingly, inside was very quiet with folks working on laptops or reading...for me this was the perfect atmosphere to get work done. read more

I used to frequent this place in 2013-14 when it was under a different name, new, and I loved it. It seems to still be quite popular, but based on my visit today after a four year pause I will not be returning. I ordered a caffe latte, my usual. It took a very long time. 10-12 minutes? It wasn't busy at all, as I'd just walked up to the counter and there were only two or three people waiting for drinks. The problem was that I got skipped a few times for some reason (accidentally I believe, watching the barista pull the receipts off the wall -- I had tipped well and was certainly not rude). No big deal, just a longer wait than I expected. But my drink was not good. It tasted like steamed milk. No espresso taste. I haven't returned coffee maybe ever, but I nearly did just to reorder something that tasted like an actual caffe latte, not just the latte part of the equation. Maybe it was a one-off bad luck drink, but after being away four years and looking forward to visiting a favorite old haunt, it will be some time before I return. read more

Love this place and go often for breakfast. I usually order the Surfy Scramble or the Jose Especial, and have tried most other items on the menu. All pretty yummy. But... On some days there's a not-so-great cook.... The food is usually very good, but at times it's prepared differently (obviously by a different cook), and with smaller portion size, and not quite so yummy. 7-1-17 UPDATE ..... Tried the acai bowls here several times. What they give you is a small/medium sized bowl of bananas, strawberries and other healthy fruit, and beneath the fruit is VERY LITTLE acai. It's rather insulting to customers to get such a small portion. (kinda like if u ordered a steak at Outback but instead got a plate loaded with potatoes and then somewhere in there was a miniature piece of steak) And the acai portion size is not a fluke, it's like that every time. ..... Luckily I just discovered that the juice bar at Lazy Acres makes stellar açai bowls, for only $5.99 yummy deal! .... The verdict. In the future I won't be ordering the food at Coffee Coffee. But I'll continue coming here regularly, for the great outdoor table area atmosphere, and decent cold brew coffee. read more

Today I stopped in after a great beach day with my son. Right away I was welcomed in by the two employees working. I was very hungry and wasn't too sure what to get, but the cashier made me feel very comfortable with taking my time. She then recommended the Garden Bagel and danggggggg was it good!!! I grabbed a pastry (SO BOMB) and ice coffee as well. The ice coffee was some of the best I have had! This shop seems to take time with their craft! Great north country vibes...perfect for long slow coffee chats with friends or some indoor studying. The espresso drinks are delicious! The green tea latte always leaves me a little disappointed. The food Is OK, quick coffee shop food without a kitchen gets the job done and seems to be on the healthier side. This is one of my favorite shops but I think I keep going back for the experience and company...it's definitely worth checking out to see if it works for you. Plenty of outdoor seating for dogs or cyclists. Lots of indoor seating for laptops. read more

I thought this coffee shop was named something else, like Ipa or something. Anywho, I've been here a few times and really like the spot! It's right off Coast Hwy. Stopped here the other Sunday for an afternoon pick me up with the best friend. They have a good patio outside to enjoy the California sun. I got an iced Americano if I remember correctly, it was delish. Has a surf shop next door that we browsed and then we walked down to Karina's for some Mexican food. Love Leucadia! read more

$50 breakfast as expected in California, two entrees, two drinks and toast.. Tipped $6. Husband requested 1 shot of espresso for his latte (2 shots come in each drink). I ordered a green tea latte. Green Tea Latte seemed weak so I asked if I could add a shot for $0.75 to my drink (the extra shot price). "Sure you can add a shot but you'll pay the full single espresso price of $2.75." I must not have tipped enough to get reasonable service. Floored. Not coming back. read more

This is a good spot. The drop coffee and bagel were both above average. Service was okay, but the two young women behind the bar were having an intense conversation about dating while I was there so perhaps they were more distracted than usual. The vibe is friendly and chill. Indoor seating is a bit sparse but there are lots of seats on the patio. The WiFi works. read more

I'm not one to write a review but I just must for this incredible coffee shop. It's a local spot for sure but even if you're visiting you'll feel right at home! The coffee and food are amazing and probably one of the best spots in town. But more than that, the staff and management are incredible. I can't imagine taking something so near and dear to the community's heart and turning it into something so different. I had nothing but nice things say, however, these poor people hear the most ridiculous comments all day long. "It's to bright" "I miss the old coffee and pastries" you hear it all day long. Ive been here almost everyday they have been open and can't seem to stay away! I actually went to write this review more about management then the place itself but I get carried away. I had an amazing conversation with their manager on Tuesday and had to applaud her for her hard work. More than that, everyday since I've been here she's cleaning tables, building chairs, sweeping, running plates and drinks, hoping on bar and kitchen, all while running the place. I saw another review someone wrote exposing a lot of confidential information, why I felt the need to write this review. It seems this man was eavesdropping on a private conversation between management and staff, because I too sat outside while this took place. I wanted to come on here and applaud the manager for how she handled these conversations and issues occurred. Why? Because I am also in this industry and have been for almost 20years and I can safely say I have never seen someone so young, she has to be 18-19 years old, handle these meetings with care for her employees. I won't be quoting from the meetings because it's not my business and information to air out. However, I do believe this man is the problem. To list employee names is a huge invasion of privacy to everyone and that needs to be taken down ASAP. It was very much shocking that this man thinks it's okay to write a review about confidential information that was not for them! And to come on an app so publicly to try and air out the shops dirty laundry is quite disgusting. I've worked in this industry for years and being a manager of a new business with new staff is not easy. I decided to approach the manager when she finished with her meetings and told her maybe the patio isn't the best place for them but that she handled herself very professionally and that I would've loved to have a manager like her when I first started in this industry. I'm used to passive aggressive managers, owners, coworkers, but she took the time to bring them outside and have a real conversation. Anyways, this place is amazing and in any business you'll find yourself eavesdropping on conversations that aren't meant for you. Doesn't mean you expose anything you hear to the public. This is a good place to get coffee in a place that is very dog-friendly. And they have soy creamer for a small additional price. Not all all coffee places carry it. Lefty's doesn't for example. They have a good-sized acai bowl that is fair-priced and loaded with fruit (see photo). Getting an outdoor table is a matter of timing. The unisex restroom in the rear of the establishment is good-sized and looks ADA-compliant. Counter-people are friendly. Parking is also a matter of timing. read more

We got the egg dish and salad bowl. The yogurt for the eggs was deliciously spiced; dipping in the toasted bread into the gooey poached egg, creamy yogurt, and herbs was delicious! My issue with this dish were the herbs that were too large. Was I expected to stick a big piece of herb on my toast? The dish is saucy with the chili oil so my clothes were dirty with the oil covered herbs. Chop the herbs smaller for practicality! Another dish suffered from the execution. We got the bowl which I thought was going to be a grain bowl. Rather, it was a ridiculously-sized salad--as much leaves as a pack from the grocery store! There were toppings within like slices of avocado, pieces of orange, farro, and nuts. I felt like I was trying to treasure hunt to look for these pieces. The salad was comically oversized. It was dressed fine but suffered from the portion size. You could see this theme with the French toast too where you get 1/3 of a baked bread. I'm honestly confused by this chef who has amazing experience. Why do you construct dishes that are difficult and impractical to eat? Less is more. These dishes need extensive edits. How this place got Bib Gourmand is honestly surprising to me.

Instead of taking the plate back and replacing the meal, he simply removed the bagel from my plate and brought another one. Given the situation, I would have expected the entire dish to be remade. Additionally, the coffee mug I was given appeared dirty, which added to my concerns about overall cleanliness. I later felt sick and experienced symptoms consistent with food poisoning, possibly related to the meal. For the quality of food and service provided, the pricing felt unreasonably high. The overall experience did not reflect the cost. I'm really disappointed with the lack of quality control and how the situation was handled. I hope management takes food safety, cleanliness, and customer service more seriously moving forward.

There is ample seating and bathrooms for customers in the back. Overall, great coffee and I'd definitely come back to try more of their menu.
