It was a quick visit and the coffee was amazing. However the thing I was most impressed with is the pieces of pipe that were formed to create a place to put your dog (pictures to follow). More of an old school coffee shop. It's not like your hipster coffee place but will get the job done. I love getting their americanos. They have alternative milk options (oat, coconut, almond, soy) and a breakfast menu which includes eggs, bagels, wraps, pastries. Around the fall, they have delicious pumpkin bread. Shout out to Andrea! She was crushing it today despite the hot weather and busyness of the shop. With an upbeat attitude and smile, despite the odds, she kept going. She recommended the honey and cinnamon iced coffee which was on point. Not too sweet, but just enough. While it can be made hot, the weather took that role today so I opted for iced. It was just the thing I was looking for! I stopped by for the first time today to grab a coffee (crazy I know) before heading out to the beach. The atmosphere is quaint and relaxing. We stopped by this place for a nice late breakfast and extra coffee. Great ambience outside, with loads of outdoor tables and chairs (very dog friendly). We ordered iced matcha lattes and shared the avocado toast. The avocado toast came with two slices of sourdough smothered with a nice portion of avocado, as well as sliced cherry tomatoes and a sprinkle of what I this was Parmesan cheese. Excellent!! We also bought some coffee called "Surfing Madonna's Elixir" and we can't wait to brew it at home! The smell of freshly roasted beans will give you an endorphin high. Revolution Roasters made this location their official roasting place. An absolute plus for the people who live in Leucadia! Bf loves his brew and what better time to visit a non chain coffee shop than when you're on vacation in San Diego and in need of a cold one. I ordered their grande (oops! medium!) decaf iced americano and it was the perfect sip while we were sitting in their outdoor patio underneath the shady tree on a warm afternoon. It is sort of ironic that there is a big roaster one notices upon entering this cafe, as the lattes do not have that deep, distinct roasted bean flavor. The lattes taste too diluted. I get lattes all the time at various cafes around the world and I can say that their lattes are one of the weakest tasting ones I have had. I have tried this cafe several times to give them a chance to impress me but I am always disappointed with my latte. The customer service is bland here -- just like their coffee. It seems to be a popular place on the weekends to sit outside. They do offer light fair, which I am afraid to try because of all my disappointments with the coffee. I did try an almond croissant one time and I though it was average. Today I think is the last time I will go there. read more

I would completely come back and hang out here. Had a great beach vibe with lots of outdoor seating right along the 101. I enjoyed the hour I spent reading here immensely. They have a nice wall of all their roasts with good descriptions. They are well tagged for which work best with your preparation method. However, the espresso was disappointing. Two shots, burned to a crisp, not even worth drinking. It was so obvious they were burned when they were served that I am surprised the barista did not just re-pull them right away. So, flavor wise I cannot tell you much about their espresso since it was ruined. My suggestion for coffee here would be get something that doesn't use the espresso machine - maybe a pour over. I typically don't leave reviews but was so sad and disappointed with my visit today. My husband and I lived on Neptune a few blocks away from this coffee shop for over 6 years and it was our go to spot! Loved the staff, coffee was amazing and great food. Today we were back in the area visiting and were really excited to go and get breakfast there, unfortunately we left very disappointed. The food was almost unedible. We ate because we were starving but there was no flavor and they completely changed how the sandwich comes prepared. It used to be AMAZING came with Avocado, tomato and melted cheese, so much flavor! Today it was a dried/overcooked egg with some burnt pieces of bacon. I am really sad to say the least. I dont get why people have to change something that was so good. The coffee was also not the same at all either. With all that being said the staff is still great, I hope they can turn this place around to what it used to be because it was a great go to local spot for the community. read more

I don't drink coffee, so you should probably skip over this review if you're wondering how it is. I'll talk about the place, the people and the food, but I got nothing for coffee. We have a few spots locally that the lady and I visit for weekend morning breakfasts, teas and coffee for her. We think like this one the best. The Dawn Patrol Sammich is pretty awesome. It's the perfect size egg sammich with cheese and tapatio. The lox bagel dish is also quite tasty. The food usually comes out quick and the person is friendly. They did switch to making the Dawn Patrol cold for a while, but they fixed that and then started to make them scrambled, which I am not a fan of. I ask for it over medium how it was originally. That seemed to be the best. The people that work there are friendly. Every now and then someone's a little pissy or slow, but you get that at most businesses, no? I've found the owner (I think he's the owner) is a pretty outgoing dude that will make things right if anything goes astray. The weekend morning patio is a pretty great spot too. There's always some local performer or group playing some music. I've found most of them are enjoyable . They have a pretty good selection of teas both non and caffeinated. You will often see them roasting their beans for the coffee in the corner. It's pretty neat to watch although the machine can be pretty loud if you're inside trying to have a conversation. Cafe Ipe just opened in Leucadia, next to Surfy Surfy (same owners). The set up is pretty nice, with glass cases displaying fresh pastries and the coffee roaster in full view! They roast their coffee a few times a week, which is a great process to watch. I had one of the best cappuccinos of my life and a heart shaped sugar cookie. Holy moly, I am going back! Plus, free wifi for customers. Their barista was very knowledgeable and friendly. But that coffee is insane! So good. They serve up a few sandwiches and colorful lunch items. Cookies, pastries, etc from VG's and also gluten free options. I'm sure they are still working out some kinks and will have a grand opening in the near future, but this place is going to be my spot! I've set myself up at the coffee bar near the roaster for many a writing sesh, for meetings and musings. It's quiet, much more so than some over cafes in the area-and although there are not many plugs it's got a great vibe and you don't feel like they're rushing you out the door. The coffee is flavorful but seems a little bitter to me, maybe it's just that the roast isn't my cup of tea. I enjoy the little breakfast plates they put together, fruit, meats and cheese and a bagel-very euro. I feel like this place is quintessential Leucadia-From the decor to the live music sometimes in the evenings and on weekends. I'm not really a "coffee shop" type of person...that is, until I found this gem. I started off buying decaf beans from here to grind/enjoy at home. Then I happened to order a "Dirty Chai" one day and I was hooked immediately. Jose is the BEST. He really is one of those people that knows how to genuinely connect with everyone. I'm always so happy to see his face when I come in. I have yet to try food items but from the looks and smells while I am there normally, it looks delicious. Loved it. The best coffee i have had in a while and extremely reasonably pricing if you want to buy the beans by the pound or 1/2 pound - regardless of the varietal of the bean. We had 2 double espressos and i had a coffee of the day " coconut mocha" - with tip - all 3 under $10! Seems to be a favorite of the locals which tells me we found a good thing. Came here to get some work done on my laptop. There are not many power outlets but there are a few for those who need it. I came fully charged laptop and sat at the bar which overlooked their coffee machinery. I order their drip coffee. Decent price and flavorful beans. Plenty of seating inside and out. I used to frequent this place in 2013-14 when it was under a different name, new, and I loved it. It seems to still be quite popular, but based on my visit today after a four year pause I will not be returning. I ordered a caffe latte, my usual. It took a very long time. 10-12 minutes? It wasn't busy at all, as I'd just walked up to the counter and there were only two or three people waiting for drinks. The problem was that I got skipped a few times for some reason (accidentally I believe, watching the barista pull the receipts off the wall -- I had tipped well and was certainly not rude). No big deal, just a longer wait than I expected. But my drink was not good. It tasted like steamed milk. No espresso taste. I haven't returned coffee maybe ever, but I nearly did just to reorder something that tasted like an actual caffe latte, not just the latte part of the equation. Maybe it was a one-off bad luck drink, but after being away four years and looking forward to visiting a favorite old haunt, it will be some time before I return. read more

Love this place and go often for breakfast. I usually order the Surfy Scramble or the Jose Especial, and have tried most other items on the menu. All pretty yummy. But... On some days there's a not-so-great cook.... The food is usually very good, but at times it's prepared differently (obviously by a different cook), and with smaller portion size, and not quite so yummy. 7-1-17 UPDATE ..... Tried the acai bowls here several times. What they give you is a small/medium sized bowl of bananas, strawberries and other healthy fruit, and beneath the fruit is VERY LITTLE acai. It's rather insulting to customers to get such a small portion. (kinda like if u ordered a steak at Outback but instead got a plate loaded with potatoes and then somewhere in there was a miniature piece of steak) And the acai portion size is not a fluke, it's like that every time. ..... Luckily I just discovered that the juice bar at Lazy Acres makes stellar açai bowls, for only $5.99 yummy deal! .... The verdict. In the future I won't be ordering the food at Coffee Coffee. But I'll continue coming here regularly, for the great outdoor table area atmosphere, and decent cold brew coffee. read more

Today I stopped in after a great beach day with my son. Right away I was welcomed in by the two employees working. I was very hungry and wasn't too sure what to get, but the cashier made me feel very comfortable with taking my time. She then recommended the Garden Bagel and danggggggg was it good!!! Great north country vibes...perfect for long slow coffee chats with friends or some indoor studying. The espresso drinks are delicious! The green tea latte always leaves me a little disappointed. The food Is OK, quick coffee shop food without a kitchen gets the job done and seems to be on the healthier side. This is one of my favorite shops but I think I keep going back for the experience and company...it's definitely worth checking out to see if it works for you.
