My boyfriend and I who have been coming here for years were so distraught and thought we'd never experience the wonderful taste of Cody's French toast on a Sunday morning.... They outdid themselves with the renovation and relocation of this place!!! Not only is it bigger and more outdoors, but it has a bar and amazing place to hang out and brunch! There food is amazing if you've never been. I recommend their French toast, chilaquiles, or omelet! Orange juice and house coffee are the go to drinks.... if you're feeling a little liquor courage, the mimosas are wonderful!!!! So proud of this eatery! I'm surprised I've never reviewed Cody's before. I've been here multiple times when I was in college but I hadn't been back in maybe 4 or 5 years. It's located a couple of blocks from the shores, there's not necessarily an ocean view, but there is outdoor seating and if you lean back far enough you might get a glimpse of the water haha. I took my sister here for lunch since she was visiting from out of town and I thought it would be fun to spend the day in downtown La Jolla. We both enjoyed Lobster Clam Chowder Bread Bowls. I really enjoyed the presentation of it especially with the claw hanging out of the bowl, nice touch. On other visits I've tried their brunch/breakfast food and all have been pretty good. It's a cute intimate little restaurant, perfect for a sunny day in La Jolla. I'll try to come back as often as I can. read more

Went here for brunch and we were seated right away. Everything looked good on the menu so we ordered a little bit of everything. We were told our orders would be spaced out; apps first and then main entrees. They ended up brining our entire order so some plates were cold by the time we got around to eat it. Our apps were ceviche and a cup of crab and corn chowder. Main dishes were chopped vegetable salad with lobster (not on the menu), breakfast salad, a side of bacon and biscuits and gravy. Nice, relaxed spot for a quick lunch. We especially enjoyed the crab cakes appetizer with a whole lot of delicious crab and very little other filling. Even the crispy chicken sandwich was good! Overall a nice, clean place with good service. The only downside is the lack of easy to find parking if you're visiting the area, so allow time for a search for that. read more

The salmon was cooked perfectly and went very nicely with the salad, I would definitely recommend it. The drinks are really cute too, but I wasn't a fan of the Smokey Paloma. If you're looking for a more fruity and sweet cocktail I would recommend Gabe's Banana Caipirinha! My only complaint would be the seating was very cramped. The table we were seated at was outside in the corner and it was impossible to get out from the table without bumping the people behind us and squeezing out. The party behind us was glaring at us when we went to use the bathroom but it really wasn't our fault because the seating was so cramped over there. Worked up an appetite searching for parking in La Jolla and then a brisk walk brought us to the welcoming doors of Cody's La Jolla. The restaurant has a beachy cottage feel, and a laid back vibe that belied the busy, hard working, and friendly staff churning out some amazing eats from the kitchen. A short perusal of the menu is all it took before our table ordered mimosas (pomegranate and OJ), and then the savories -- veggie hash with poached eggs and avo for the girls; chicken 'n biscuits, crab cakes benedict, fish 'n chips for the guys; a veggie omelet for me; and AWESOME French Toast. The trick here, we learned from Gavin and Brandon (who once worked here), is to order the French Toast last and share amongst the group. It's good that the restaurant was on the noisy side because I'm not sure there was much talking to be done after the food arrived. Huge portions on every plate. The griddled potatoes were outstanding ... caramelized crunch on the outside and a buttery softness inside. I ate so much of it that I wasn't able to finish the omelet which was stuffed full of spinach, tomatoes, herbs and goat cheese. As for the French Toast ... insert dreamy sigh here. Piled high on the plate, the thick challah bread slices were griddled, then covered in minced candied walnuts and sliced strawberries with a dollop of mascarpone honey butter and syrup on the side. Sinking my fork into the toast, the pillowy texture yielded a plump chewy bite that melted ever so sweetly on the tongue. Bright light glowed and angel voices starting to sing. Everyone agreed, what a wonderful breakfast/brunch start to the day! I enjoyed the start of my Monday around 10am here at Cody's La Jolla and it wasn't busy at all, so there was no wait. The decor, and scenery are perfect especially for a girls brunch. Mostly everything we ordered was delicious, except for the chilaquiles which was a bit too "tomatoey" for my groups liking, and the reasoning for four stars. If you come here I would definitely recommend the French Toast, as well as the Crab Benedict. They will not disappoint. read more

As someone who eats ceviche practically everyday this one did not disappoint it was actually very tasteful and we both enjoyed it. The pancakes were fluffed to perfection I absolutely loved them I did ask for them plain and they were still amazing would definitely get those again. My husband loved his burger I had a bite and I must say it was juicy and cooked perfectly! I will definitely order the burger for myself next time! Our waiter was very nice and attentive constantly asked if we were doing okay or if we needed anything. I have it a 4 because the host was rude I simply asked a yes or no question about certain seating and she said "you get the table we give you we don't move people" I simply asked for a table with a view if it was possible and she said no we don't have any and sat us at a table and proceeded to sit the couple after us at the table we had asked for she did not need to be rude and it was definitely something she could of nicely accommodated us for but she decided not to which we said it was okay it was a simple yes or no. To drink, I had a ginger peach spritzer which came with candied ginger and a fresh peach slice and was super yummy! I'm not sure what the good reviews are for. I thought that the food is average. Prices are high. We got the suggested lobster roll. Too much breading. The crab and corn soup was too bland. Came here for a nice brunch, and ended up having more fun than expected. To start, they have great beverage options, ranging from regular cocktails, to espresso martini's. You can get a good kick there. Then, they have a delicious fried calamari entree. We had two of those and ceviche to start. Their food is overall amazing- they have large portions, different options for every eater, and great service. Went to Cody's and expected great food however the quality of the food is less than mediocre. Surf and turf Benedict was so bad - the steak chewy, the lobster bland and the potatoes were boiled and smushed with no taste at all. Hollandaise sauce was tasteless and that is the basic of a Benedict and the price $30. My friend had the omelette and she also found it bad and complained. They had siracha on the table so we had to use that to get some taste. The restaurant is pricy for two people $75 but the food is below quality so definitely not worth the price. The only thing good about the restaurant is the views and that's about it but for that, one might as well walk a block and get the view on the water for free. Don't recommend it. What beautiful restaurant! We arrived on a cool November Tuesday at noon for lunch. We chose to be seated outside in the sun to enjoy the fresh air and sea view. There are plenty of umbrellas available but the sun felt wonderful. We usually try new places in the off season to avoid crowds or wait times. This Autumn day we enjoyed a spacious patio and attentive service. I ordered the chopped salad and it was soo good. I especially enjoyed the gorgonzola cheese and the lemon salad dressing. The presentation was beautiful, lovely white salad bowl placed on a wood board with two slices of thin crisp bread laid across a white doily. A perfect sight for those who enjoy beautiful presentation. Service was excellent, our waiter brought out a second glass of iced tea and more hot water for my hot tea. On the way out I took time to look around at the lovely decor, light pinks, light greens, ocean decor and my favorite was a wall fireplace with two comfy chairs sitting directly in front of it with a small table. It looked so intimate, cozy and inviting. I also loved the beautiful large open waiting area, long benches, tables, plants, hostess stand all outdoors with a beautiful view of the ocean. I lived close to La Jolla for 6+ years and somehow never managed to try Cody's out of all the brunch places around. We decided to stop by on our most recent trip to SD and I was really confused at first because I couldn't find it but that's because I was going off of my memory as to where the old location was! After a quick google search, I realized they moved (still pretty close to the old spot) but the space definitely seems much bigger. We stopped by on a Friday morning so thankfully there was no wait & our servers were really attentive. I was really craving French toast that day so we ordered the French toast & the crab cakes Benedict. I felt like the French toast was super simple- nothing unique. Wish there was a compote or something to go along with it because it was a bit dry. The crab cake Benedict was really good and the crab cakes itself were delicious, but it came with two slices of really unripe avocado & the potatoes that came with it as a side were really cold so I honestly don't think it was worth the price. I think there are a lot of better places around so I'm not sure I would revisit again. read more

We had a beautiful breakfast this weekend at Cody's. A couple of things that we weren't impressed with was the ability of some people walking up to the hostess and negotiating being seated regardless of the hour wait and massive of persons waiting 45 mins prior their arrival. It was really hard not to say anything to the people but the staff should have had a manager take care of this situation, no one is above anyone else regardless how much they think they are. The service was great, super friendly, and recommended lots of great specials and options. The restaurant was super clean and great at social distanced dining, with an open airy gorgeous setting. The Crab Benedict plate was 25 dollars and really bland. Their was really nothing special about the dish, other than the eggs were perfect and it was a bit mushy. Not seasoned at all, disappointed by that but not enough to keep up from coming back. Hopefully they can stop customers from bullying their way in front of other customers and we can try some of the many other delicious dishes they offer on the menu. I wasn't upset because the lobster roll made me forget about the oysters it was freaken delicious the buttery fresh baked bread and the generous portion of lobster exceeded my expectations. The mimosas were great as well the right balance of orange juice and champagne. My husband ordered fish tacos he said they were ok and the clam chowder wasn't anything special. I felt like this place was alright for brunch - just your typical San Diego brunch spot with cute decor and large plates of slightly above average food. It felt like going to a restaurant that was more curated for content rather than actual good food. I got the eggs benedict and espresso martini. The benedict was overall very average - I didn't feel that it stuck out to me compared to any other benedict I've had or made, and the Hollandaise was a little on the thicker side. I felt like I had to dump on the Tabasco to taste anything at all, because the dish overall was a little bland. A great lunch spot overlooking the Cove (albeit about a block away) in La Jolla. Make sure to sit outside. Very pleasant compared to the pretty much ugly seating inside. Very nice atmosphere outside--try to get a table where you can see the ocean. Kayleigh our server took great care of us. The girls had mimosas including one made with pomegranate. We loooooove this place! We've been here twice, and the meals and especially the service, never failed us. We ordered a few things on the menu - from a custom omelette, eggs bene and special pancakes (for my niece). The entire staff all worked together to ensure we were constantly tended to - from refills to condiments, extras, etc... What service! We enjoyed our experience and breakfast while dining al fresco.
