I bought their Fruit Tart along with their Lemon Tart and had it boxed to go. The service was quick and ordering was easy, there was seating and it was cozy inside! The fruit tart was absolutely delicious and definitely my favorite of the two. I enjoyed having kiwi as a part of the fruit on top, and the crust was perfectly crumbly and not overly firm. The Lemon Tart was also pretty good, it was very soft and creamy and I enjoyed the zest in each bite! The crust at the bottom was super yummy as well. Both of these treats were delicious and presented beautifully but I'm looking forward to trying another fruit tart! read more

Excellent customer service! ^ that is what is missing from this place. It mostly felt like I was talking to a wall waiting for paint to dry. No expression, no smile, no good mornings. Literally robots. I even got an eye roll I believe, and I don't know exactly why. I didn't even know where the creamer was and offered no instructions at all. The food, yeah it's good of course, and obviously the place is clean. But if you're looking to talk to a Gen-Z stare like, this is the place. Came here the day before, with the same exact service. Do better with the hiring. I want to see smiles 100% of the time or I will be calling them out on TikTok. At least the strawberry croissant is delish! read more

Very disappointing experience tonight. I ordered several cakes including a tiramisu cake around 7:45 PM, water was coming out from the bottom of tiramisu. The tiramisu was completely drenched, there was no cake texture at all, more like cake soup. I took one bite and it was honestly disgusting. I brought it back immediately to the cashier, but instead of addressing the issue, the guy tried to convince me that this was normal and that it was just sugar. I've had this cake here countless times, and I know the texture is suppose to be moist, not completely soaked and watery. I left the cake at the counter since they weren't willing to do anything about it, no exchange or refund was offered. Also, the coffee mug I was given was chipped around the lip. I did like the coffee, but it was just odd and disappointing to be served a drink in a broken mug. Overall, I would not recommend coming here at night, as the cakes clearly did not seem fresh. read more

Cocola has a special place in my heart because I've been coming here for the past seven years, ever since I moved to San José. It's always been one of those nice spots to meet up with friends, grab a coffee, enjoy something sweet, and just relax. They have such a great variety of pastries, cakes, tarts, croissants, and desserts, so there's always something tempting in the display. Personally, one of my favorites is the passion fruit cheesecake with a cappuccino, such a good combination! Their croissants are also really good. I especially enjoy sitting outdoors. Being right in the heart of Santana Row makes it a great place to hang out, have a coffee with friends, and enjoy the atmosphere, especially during the summer. After all these years, Cocola is still one of those places I enjoy coming back to whenever I'm in the mood for coffee and something sweet. read more

Amazing!!! This place is such a cute quaint pastry shop. We ordered the mango passion fruit, chocolate croissant, and an espresso white whip cream. Upon waking up we were warmly greeted by a gentleman. As a first time patron, we asked what recommendations he would have in one of them was the Bamboo- mango passionfruit mouse The mango passionfruit mouse was so refreshing, light and the perfect sweet treat for the afternoon. It was Covered in real mango purée, passionfruit mousse layered between the mousse very fluffy light cake layers. The espresso whipped cream was amazing. It was not bitter or tart. It was very smooth espresso. I got the chocolate croissant for my husband. It was full of chocolate, nice and flaky croissant. Definitely a favorite. We will definitely be returning anytime we're in the area to try more items. read more

Been coming here for years, and in fact I've always had pleasant experiences here. Well, not so much yesterday. Came in and went up to the pastry section. Figured out what I wanted, but no attempt was made to be greeted. Guy kept going back and forth even though I was trying to make eye contact with him. Put my arm on the glass to make it clear we were ready. Still nothing. Eventually he greets the group behind us in line and says they were there first even though they were in a different section of the place for awhile. Eventually the guy at the cash register with all the piercings who seems to hate his job/life also proves to not really be helpful. I understand this is not a career job, but if you hate dealing with people, then maybe the job isn't the right fit for you and just quit and do something else. You're ruining the experience for others. Either way, very disappointed and hopefully they can retrain their staff on customer service. read more

While walking down Santana row, this is such a cute little bakery to check out. I found out that they update their decorations in their desserts seasonally. I had gone during Halloween and they had so many cute desserts, I wanted them all. I went recently and service was very fast so know what you want. Im a suckered for chocolate so really can't go wrong with anything there. Their mango mousse is Devine as well. read more

Come for the pastries, desserts, and drinks, and not so much for the service. Not very pleasant staff, IMO. Santana Row stuffiness, perhaps? Like I need them more than they need me as a customer. Ordered their whole fruit tart for Thanksgiving, and it was ok! Even though the description says it has a raspberry mousse, it was actually mango (I should have taken a picture of the yellow inside)... At least it tasted delicious! The frangipan and butter crust tasted dense, but at least the flavor was there. They also misspelled Thanksgiving and the writing was a bit sloppy. For an $80 fruit tart, I expected better. I normally like Cocola's cakes, but this may be a pass in the future. read more

Coffee date with the girls! We came here on a weekday afternoon, there were available tables inside and outside along the street and in the alley. The pastries and sweet treats were very tempting, but I just had a latte. There were 4 of us, so there were not that many tables for us inside, so we opted to side in the alleyway. One of the gals says their chocolate croissant is very good here, so I'll have to try it next time. Previously, I've been here on a Friday evening and it's quite a busy scene. I can see that it would be a popular spot for dates after dinner, when you want to grab sweets. read more

This is a cute lovely cafe for some pastry and quick rest after strolling in Santana Row. My friend and I got the strawberry croissant, apple tart, orange soda and a chai latte. My husband and I were passing through Santana Row yesterday and we decided to browse Cocola Bakery to see what pastries were offered. This is a very quaint and beautiful setup. They have available seating inside as well as a large seating area outside their store Front. The variety of pastries and cakes are colorful and so elegantly shown. I believe they also offer affogato options for nice days like yesterday and hotter days during the summers. When we walked in, we were automatically welcomed by the staff/baristas and asked if we needed help or had any questions. After browsing their whole selection of pastries, I noticed the pistachio almond croissant and told my husband that it looks delicious and pistachios are a thing/trend right now. He also noticed there was only one left so he said it may be super popular. So guess what he decided on? Haha yes we bought the pistachio croissant. To my surprise, it was not overly sweet but you can taste the pistachio cream inside the almond croissant. The almond taste of the croissant was also perfect. We didn't get a chance to order a coffee with our pastry so when we come back.. we will definitely try a latte or maybe the banana hot chocolate everyone is craving about when we were there. The only thing I suggest is offering Matcha (ceremonial grade, of course) on their menu: Iced and Hot with options for Strawberry or Regular (it's great to see sugar free options for syrups as well) but I know many cafes won't have too many sugar free options except for sugar free vanilla syrups. But if they had Matcha .. I would've definitely ordered an Iced Matcha with light strawberry syrup. But we will be back for sure as this place offered a pastry that was great to eat. read more

Cute cafe with an aesthetically pleasing interior/outdoor seating area/pastry selection. My mom and I stopped by for coffee and a quick snack (we shared the Mango and Passion Fruit Mousse) mid-shopping trip. The food/drinks were fine (standard, nothing special), but the 3 stars are for the lukewarm, borderline cold service, which was enough to deter me from a future visit. Overall, Cocola is conveniently located (perhaps a reasonable place to rest/take a break after a long day of shopping), but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. read more

It's an okay bakery. Everything is really cute looking but not everything tastes that great. One of my favorites though is the pineapple with coconut cream pastry. On this last visit I tried the banana and chocolate cake and the caramel cake. The banana cake was horrible and I would not recommend that to anyone at all. The caramel one was okay and probably really good for someone who loves caramel. It's a nice little treat if you're in the area. Service can be a little slow but it's not bad if you're not in a hurry. read more

Stopped by Cocola at Santana Row right at opening on a Saturday. No crowd at all, which made it a relaxing start to the day. I got a hot mocha, the flavor was average, but the portion size was generous and the price surprisingly affordable for Santana Row. Tried the mushroom croissant and was really pleased. it had a nice savory umami flavor. Also had a pistachio croissant, which was decent but tasted like it wasn't made fresh that morning. Pastries are on the pricier side and the quality is average. Service was fast and the baristas were friendly. Outdoor seating was lovely, and there's plenty of parking, but it's only free for the first two hours. read more

Cocola Bakery is a Santana Row classic. I love the pastries and it's always a wonderful treat after dinner or lunch. One of my favorites is the strawberries/raspberries and cream cake. It is light, fluffy, tart, sweet and oh soooo good! Every bite is soft and is quite fresh. There is indoor and outdoor seating and but tends to fill up quickly on the weekends and evenings. If you notice that there is no seating, you can always get it to go and walk towards the south end of Santana Row and grab a seat there by the fountains and enjoy your snacks and desserts there. I can't believe I have been coming here for the past 18 plus years. Oh how time flies by fast. They also offer coffee, tea, snacks, salads, sandwiches and other drinks. Service is pretty quick and friendly as well. The atmosphere hasn't really changed over the years and still looks identical to how it looked like almost 20 years ago. read more

I have to admit that when I saw this place listed in Eater's "Best Bakeries in South Bay" list, I rolled my eyes a little. My first impression of Cocola (having past by it several times when I'm in Santana Row) is that it's an "Instagram bakery," meaning a place that serves nice looking pastries in a good looking setting but doesn't really deliver in taste. I won't name names of other bakeries that are in this category... *cough* Paris Baguette *cough*. However, I decided to give it a chance instead of harboring onto this initial judgment. I got the hazelnut cake, the creme feuillet, and pistachio croissant. I was very surprised at how great the first two pastries tasted. They were both very well balanced and not overpowering, which is usually my experience in having these kinds of items at other bakeries. I was pretty disappointed by the pistachio croissant. Not only did the green cream filling look unappealing and unnatural but it also tasted pretty awful. I thought that this croissant would be a nice alternative to the traditional almond croissant but unfortunately, it didn't deliver. In all honesty, I would probably have given this place a perfect rating had it not been for this one croissant. While I didn't get any savory items, they also didn't seem like anything too special from what I saw. Overall, I think that this bakery is decent if you live in the nearby area and need a no-fail "safe" bakery to order a pastry or dessert. I would definitely consider stopping by here for a sweet treat after visiting Valley Fair or Santana Row. read more

Ruuuuuuuude and extremely arrogant. The manage (bob cut hair with thick frame glasses) was extremely rude when she spotted us scanning thru the pastries across the display. She literally told us "you cannot be here looking when there is a line" even though we had to look thru before we could make a choice of what we were going to select. Her rudeness did not stop there: after we purchased the pastries, we could not find any empty chairs so we put our pastries and tray on the handicapped table and she immediately told us that we could not be there and had to move. How can anyone go regardless of how good the quality of the desserts are??? Simply rude and perhaps we felt we were looked down upon What a bad bad experience we had... Clearly we will make sure the word spreads and others don't experience what we experienced read more

Amazing bakery! Delicious well made beautiful pastries. I don't remember the exact name of what I ordered, but it was a vanilla cream pastry puff and a keto zucchini parmesan bread. Both were delicious! The vanilla cream reminded me of crème brûlée, it was amazing not too sweet or heavy perfect creaminess and nice texture! I shared with my sisters so they could try and they loved it as well. Everything is well displayed and smells amazing right when you walk in. Friendly staff. I am happy my sister lives right above so I can come here often to try more delicious treats! read more

The manager who has the bob cut hair with thick round eyeglasses is extremely rude and arrogant. I was really disappointed with my visit to Cocola in Santana Row. The customer service was rude and unwelcoming from the start. There's no sign anywhere that says customers can't sit near the door, yet after we sat down, the staff came and abruptly told us we had to move. If that's a rule, then put up a clear sign and don't place tables there in the first place. Overall, the place is overpriced and the desserts honestly aren't that good for what they charge. With how poorly the situation was handled, I left feeling frustrated and unwelcome. Definitely expecting better from a store in this location. Management really needs to step up staff training and customer experience. read more

Very disturbing experience at Cocola Bakery. The Napoleon pastry was decorated with a pink square piece with the cafe name on it. I assumed it was edible -- maybe chocolate, sugar paper, or a wafer decoration. Instead, it turned out to taste and feel like dense cardboard and was completely impossible to chew. This is honestly dangerous. Someone could easily choke trying to eat it because it is placed directly on the dessert with absolutely no warning that it is not edible. I have never seen a bakery put non-edible decorations on pastries without informing customers. This is irresponsible and unacceptable. Very disappointed. Would not recommend. read more
