The customer service was rude and unwelcoming from the start. There's no sign anywhere that says customers can't sit near the door, yet after we sat down, the staff came and abruptly told us we had to move. If that's a rule, then put up a clear sign and don't place tables there in the first place. Overall, the place is overpriced and the desserts honestly aren't that good for what they charge. With how poorly the situation was handled, I left feeling frustrated and unwelcome. Definitely expecting better from a store in this location. Very disturbing experience at Cocola Bakery. The Napoleon pastry was decorated with a pink square piece with the cafe name on it. I assumed it was edible -- maybe chocolate, sugar paper, or a wafer decoration. Instead, it turned out to taste and feel like dense cardboard and was completely impossible to chew. This is honestly dangerous. Someone could easily choke trying to eat it because it is placed directly on the dessert with absolutely no warning that it is not edible. Only after all of that did I get told they were out of mint tea. At that point, I was forced to choose something else I didn't want, instead of being informed up front or offered a refund. This feels like a basic customer service miss -- if something is unavailable, that should be communicated before taking payment, not after. The situation could have been handled much better with proper staff training and management support. A simple heads-up or proactive offer to refund would have gone a long way. Upon walking in, a display of amazing pastries, desserts and also great sandwiches and salads. Staff are very friendly and happy to make suggestions as there is simply too many to choose from. Today, my fiancé and I enjoyed a breakfast pastry that had egg, bacon on an amazing croissant, as well as a plain croissant. We also enjoyed two cappuccino that were the closest we have had compared to our time in Italy. The pastries are delicate and flavorful, the coffee is nothing but quality. I personally prefer flaky pastries so I enjoyed the almond croissant while the others loved the mousse and tart. The seating outdoors was plentiful and reminiscent of (what I imagine to be) a French cafe with decorative metal tables and chairs which are light enough to easily move around depending on your party size. Note if you want any additional writing or signs it'll cost extra. The service is quick. There's some seating and tables inside and outside, but given it's Santana Row it gets pretty busy. It also can get pretty noisy if sitting closer to the street. My only complaint is that the prices go up ever year - when I ordered from here a couple of years ago the same cake was $50 and now it's almost $80. read more

The worst customer service I've ever experienced. While I was outside trying to secure a table for our group, I had my brother wait in line to order. When it was his turn, he called me over and I came inside to place my order. After I finished, we realized we didn't know what my sister wanted, so my brother quickly stepped outside to ask her. It took about a minute, and there wasn't even a long line behind us. When he came back, the cashier already had an attitude. I understand she may have been frustrated by the brief delay, but her behavior was completely unprofessional. I politely asked whether there was an extra charge for making my drink extra hot. Instead of answering respectfully, she responded with an attitude, saying, "Do you see the charge on here?" I replied that I saw the $0.50 charge, and she snapped back that it was for vanilla. From that point on, her behavior only got worse. She started pointing at and yelling at my brother. I asked both of them to calm down, but instead she continued yelling at both of us. She then told us she didn't want to serve us anymore, called us "trashy people," and ordered us to leave. At that point, I finally lost my patience and told her that she shouldn't be working in customer service because of her rude attitude and the way she treated customers. I was genuinely shocked by how we were treated. I've never experienced such disrespect at a café before. Everyone has stressful days, but there is no excuse for yelling at customers, insulting them, and refusing service over such a minor situation. Management should seriously address this behavior because no customer should be treated this way. read more

It was packed when I get here. The decor looks similiar to Maison De Patisserie in here. And I got a big Box of only the best assortment of Pastries, and I'm going to be giving this Box away today this time. The Tart looks beautiful, like it's too good to dig in, I got two French Almond Croissants, and I saw a few things other similiar Shops out there don't carry, like the Pink Apple and organic Strawberry Crumble, Pineapple Twist, and Lemon Scone. And I know how much the British, like their Scone. It was kinda pricey, and expensive for what it is, but it's whatever, it's OK. I had one of the Croissants, and it was delicious, scrumptious, and the Pastry Cream inside is so incredible. The only thing is, the Workers here could be somewhat more efficient, and better at taking orders, but other than that, everything was really good. The food was sub par, This location has really gone downhill over the years. My tiramisu was still frozen in part. It's clearly some mass bought frozen tiramisu but I would appreciate at least thawing it. The coffee was meh, but I'd be ok with it if the rest of the food was better. The sandwiches have gone downhill too. Hard baguette with a puny piece of ham and some cheese. By the time I got my order it was already getting cold - maybe it's better if you get it fresh? My personal favorites being the 3 layer chocolate and the milkshake tart. This time I tried something new and got the chocolate caramel tart which was fantastic! I always pair any pastry that I get with a banana hot chocolate. They obviously have a lot of drink options but I mostly come to Cocola for the banana hot chocolate. Indoors there is limited seating and outside there is tons, when it's chilly they do have heaters so it's nice and comfortable even outdoors. 4 stars for pastries | 0 star for service -- overall 2 stars We came here for their apple tarts and they are honestly delicious -- flaky crust, fresh apples, and not overly sweet. Personally I wish the apples were a little more tart to balance the sweetness, but still a solid pastry. However, the service needs serious improvement. I ordered 3 apple tarts to go, and the staff just stacked them on top of each other in a bag -- no box, no tissue paper in between, nothing to prevent damage. These pastries are almost $8 each, and this is Santana Row -- a high-end location -- yet the takeout packaging felt careless and cheap. Nobody even asked if I preferred a box. I also ordered one of their house-made organic ice creams, and unlike other premium places like Eataly, they don't offer any tasting before choosing a flavor. The ice cream container was handed to me with no bag, and at checkout the cashier didn't bother to offer one. For the prices Cocola charges, basic customer service and packaging standards should be common sense. The pastries are good, but the service experience takes away from it. I hope management considers retraining staff on customer service and proper packaging for to-go orders -- it would make a big difference. read more
