Cocina Chente in Riverdale gave my friends and me a great experience last Friday. Making a reservation via Google was easy, and the staff responded promptly, showing politeness and cheerfulness, creating a good first impression. The restaurant had a fun, energetic vibe with many tables occupied, creating a lively ambiance perfect for the weekend. The guacamole and chips were superb--fresh, thick, and satisfying. I ordered beef nachos, and my friends had chicken quesadillas; all arrived hot and tasty. The rice on the side was well-seasoned. For drinks, I had the Rosa Colada--visually impressive with smoke for a dramatic effect--and my friends enjoyed Passion Fruit Mojitos. Both drinks were not overly sweet, a nice change. Overall, Cocina Chente offered a charming dining experience with great food, drinks, attentive staff, and a lively vibe. It's a must-visit in Riverdale. We're returning, especially for their guac and chips--our favorites! read more

Came here for drinks only. The spot is super cute they have outdoor and indoor seating. The bar is very intimate with lighting and decor. The waiter was very attentive and made us feel welcomed. It was my first time here I decided to go with el chapo and my other friends got micheladas,Rosa colada, and mezcalita. My drink was good not sure the mezcal that is used but it consist of Mezcal, Lime Juice, Cucumber Puree, Jalapeno syrup. The place was very chill and somewhat lively for a Tuesday afternoon. Another great local option. The service at Cocina Chente is what really makes you return as well as the drinks! We ordered their crispy fish tacos which were fine but I personally enjoy their shrimp tacos more. The fried fish becomes too hollow and not enough fish. We also had their crab tostada which is one of my favorite items on the menu. My suggestions would be shrimp tacos, quinoa fried balls, crab tostada, street corn and do not forget a Chenterita! read more

Stopped in for a early dinner and it has become one of our go to spots after friends had taken us here. The place is small but cozy, great service & bar. Of course the food is also just as good! We came in and we were quickly seated. Started off with drink of course, and i must say the "Rosa Colada" is by far our favorite drink there. It is crafted with Tequila blanco, Lime Juice, Pineapple juice and syrup, Strawberry Puree, Coconut cream and Cinnamon. So good! Definitely a must try. Next up we ordered the Quinoa Croquettes which were stuffed with oaxaca cheese, served over avocado butter and a chimi sauce. The flavor of this combination is incredible and the croquettes are so flavorful and soft. For dinner we got the "Chimi Tacos" with ground beef, cabbage, tomatoes, & chente sauce. Also ordered the "Fajitas" which had chicken and Shrimp with a side of rice and beans. Oh also we always get a side of their fries , so good. Really solid food and amazing cocktails! I ordered the Rosa Colada which was BOMB, the steak enchiladas which come with rice and beans, and the quinoa croquettes as an appetizer. The quinoa croquettes were yummy- really crispy and flavorful. The steak enchiladas were solid but didn't blow me out of the water with flavor. One thing I did appreciate though was the service. The waitress was kind and gave a lot of great advice about what to order. I also was unsure about my drink at first and she offered to let me try it free of charge if I hated it. Started with the steak nachos which were delicious. The steak was dry but flavorful and there was plenty of toppi gs. The were generous with the guacamole. The tuna tar tar was fresh and tasty. It came with watermelon which was strange for me but the tartar was really good. The shrimp tacos were delicious but had sour cream in them which didn't taste good. I'd ask for the sour cream on the side next time. Steak and fish tacos were delicious. We also had the churros. I wasn't a fan, they weren't cooked the same way as when I had them in the summer. I really can't say enough about this place. It's our third time coming here and I keep committing myself to try new things on the menu even though I fell in love with the fajitas the first time I was here- I've now also tried the enchiladas and today I tried what has turned out to be the best salmon I've ever had in my entire life in any restaurant ever. Combined with that with the fact that there's always such a wonderful vibe and energy in this place. The service is incredible and all of the food is just spectacular- one of the best restaurants in Riverdale... certainly one of the best restaurants in the Bronx and one of the Top in all of New York City in my opinion. read more

This place is super yummy. Made reservations for inside - they can open the whole front of the place up but it was getting a little chilly - glad I had extra layers. They bring you the menu on an ipad which is a little more difficult than a physical menu but no worries - I was still able to figure out the deliciousness I wanted to eat. I've had Cocina Chente bookmarked since pre Covid. It was a Sunday evening and my friend and I wanted to step out for drinks & food. After seeing their new summer cocktails on IG I knew Cocina Chente was the plus for us to go. So glad we did!!!! My friend arrived prior to I did & was immediately seated. As soon as you arrive there is a hostess standing outside. I was greeted then pointed in the direction to my guest. I loveeee the Beauty & The Beast decor pieces. So vibrant, giving great IG pic backdrops. The menu is accessible via QR code placed on a vase holding red flowers. We started with medium spiced guacamole (offered in mild, medium or spicy). The guacamole was very fresh as were the chips. The medium wasn't spicy to me, next time I'll definitely go with the spicy. For cocktails I had the El Guapo (seasonal drink, try it while you can), mezcal w/ jalapeño & soooo good. For my next drink I had the El Chapo, another spicy drink (did I mention spicy drinks are my thing?) also very good BUT spicier than the first drink. This drink is not for you if you can not handle spice. For my entree I had the Chicken Nachos, presented in a cast iron skillet, pipping hot, plated perfectly and very tasty. Our waitress made sure we were good the entire time, bringing more water & to go boxes. I'm so happy I was able to finally make it here. I went here after a long work day. The place gives off local Bronx energy and aesthetic with their music selection, staff, and decorations. From a neighborhood that's quickly gentrifying that authentic energy can be hard to find. I ordered the Quinoa Croquets which were the perfect blend of crunchy and soft. The quinoa exterior added a texture and crunch with the Oaxaca cheese. The croquet's are served on avocado butter which makes a nice dipping sauce. In addition to the croquets, I ordered their flor de verano which includes Gin, Lime Juice, Hibiscus infused syrup, Elderflower Liquor Topped with Prosecco. The drink was valid. It was not overtly sweet and was well balanced. One drink was enough to have me feeling good but not hungover. For my entree I ordered the steak enchilada verde. It was very tasty but needed a bit of more seasoning. I was surprised by the care and warmth of the server. She made sure to explain the menu, give recommendations and even offered to switch out a drink if we did not like it. All in all I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the BX. read more

One of the best spots in Riverdale! Chente has great cocktails, a great outdoor dining spot, lovely interior, great service, and a menu that serves all pallets! As a vegetarian it's not always easy to find flavorful dishes. Chente makes the best Mexican corn, vegetable nachos, and guacamole around. The veggies are incredibly fresh, the plate presentation is great, and they also know how to pack takeout so it's not soggy. My husband loves the fajitas as well. Impressive transition to outdoor dining. The tables were set up beautifully and the service was superb. Spacing of tables is ample and the sidewalk is partially extended to accomodate more tables. The food was excellent as well. We tried chicken quesadilla, guacamole and octoput appetizers and had the steak and the salmon for dinners. It was a big feast and everything was delicious! I was so looking forward to eating at this place. I wanted to take my husband here for some time because of the tequilas they have to offer. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met. We were able to grab an outdoor table after a short wait of about 15 minutes. The place is super tight, even the outdoor seating. We had a stroller and were seated next to another couple with a stroller. We made it work. Our server was very nice. She interacted with our daughter a lot, making her smile, which was sweet. We had a couple drinks that were good but the food left much to be desired. None of what we ordered tasted that great. Everything was kind of bland which was disappointing. Our guacamole appetizer was really small and for 10 dollars, it should have been more than a half cup. Our street corn app was bland and you would think, with all of the toppings, that it would evoke huge flavor but sadly, no. Hubby said his fajitas were not worth the price and my tacos were a bit watery and not very appetizing, either. We also needed to bring home dinner to my son but instead of ordering any take-away here, we decided to grab some Chinese food for him from elsewhere, instead. I don't think we'll be back. They have a great menu but IMO, the execution of the dishes leaves much to be desired. read more

For my official first visit to dine in, it was a pleasant one. I stopped by for a visit to see that they had Happy Hour going on. Only the happy hour was for only drinks. I was handed a tablet to place my order. It's not the first place I visited that had that concept, I hope they do a wipe down after being used, but anyway I digress. So I ordered the fish tacos, a margarita and the elote. I enjoyed it all. My food was hot, my margarita was one of the best I've had and the corn was okay. The vibes in the place you can tell is a spot for the local staff of all the schools/clinics and residential residents in the area. Most of the customers there were from schools and seem to be enjoying themselves. I can see why because the drinks are really good. The prices I've seen were reasonable, so I have to say I will be back for another visit real soon and with my girlfriends. So for now thumbs up- Happy Yelping! read more

Stopped here for brunch today after a visit to Wave Hill. I had the huevos divorciados, their take on huevos rancheros. Served with a green & red sauce. Taste was very good, and the chips taste like they are made in house, crispy! The guacamole was fresh & rich. My dining partner was pleased with his avocado toast. We split a flan for dessert, decadent and rich. Also, as for Mexican coffee, they have it here, it's wonderful, you won't need milk or cream in it at all! Ample outdoor seating is available. Indoor dining is back. Came here on a Tuesday night, This place was so cozy and beautifully decorated. Wish I would've took more pics of the ambiance. Service was on point too. The octopus was the highlight for me. So tender and savory. The chimi, slow-roasted pork, and fish tacos were all delicious. The pork reminded me of a birria style and def was more oily than I expected but overall still good. I'd go with the chimi for sure. The michelada was good, paired with a modelo beer. read more

Update... Cocina Chente now according to Instagram it's Cocina Chente NY.. We have gone religiously pre-Covid and resumed our visits once restaurants were able to have indoor/outdoor seating. Always amazing food, drinks, service and staff!! Today 9/18 was just a sad time seeing new hostess, bartenders, staff, cooks and NEW management handle their customers poorly. What happened? To the old Cocina Chente??? Drinks were bad (more like juice). Table service was horrible and we sat at the bar like we normally do on a Saturday. We saw 5 LARGE tables walk out due to the poor service and having no idea what was on the menu for drinks or even food! Please bring back the old management and amazing service, drinks, food, and all around good time. Riverdale needs to have a place to go to for amazing Mexican food, laughs, people, and drinks. My best friend and I ordered the Tostadas, Mexican Street Corn, Flautas Mexicanas, Carnitas Tacos, Beef Nachos & Guacamole -- all was tasty; So full of flavor and fresh. The guacamole was my absolute favorite. For drinks I had "La Pendeja" it was very strong and since I'm such a lightweight I was feeling tipsy by that one drink. Customer service was great. Our waitress was very accommodating and kept making sure we were okay without being overbearing. I loved the decor of this spot. Music wasn't super loud so it was easy to talk.
