We bought 6 Coastal custom vinyl replacement jalousie windows to replace our worn out old aluminum framed awning windows. The windows are constructed locally in their Mililani manufactory and we are always happy to support a local business. If you want jalousies, it seems there are no makers left on the mainland and Coastal was the only local maker we found that didn't treat jalousies (which we love for the airflow) as something they'd rather avoid. Pricing was comparable to other replacement window sellers of sliders, awnings and casements. We are very happy with the windows which our contractor was able to install without issue over a couple of days. (Coastal also offers installation but we decided to use the guys we knew and trusted over at Oahu Builders) We visited the showroom and met our started salesman (Erik) who showed us around and listened to our needs. A few days later Erik came and measured and we had a proposal soon thereafter. After several adjustments and decisions on options we placed the order. We went with simple white vinyl and 6" wide slats and added the invisible slat security feature as well. Time will tell but they look good, operate smoothly and seem easy to maintain. The inside screens are a convenient feature as well On the downside, we wish the showroom had a little more space to see additional window and door options and colors. TLDR: I had a wonderful experience with Coastal Windows and would immediately recommend them to anyone looking for high quality custom windows. I had a challenging project, and these folks helped me clear every obstacle with ease and kindness. The Details: The property needing new windows is in Massachusetts. I needed new Jalousie style windows as part of an upgrade/refresh project. Turns out, no one in the northeast provides this style of window any more, and no contractor or vendor knows where to source them at all. I finally started inquiring outside of the region. Plenty of manufacturers in the south, southwest and outside of the US offer this type of product, but if the quality wasn't disappointing, the customer service would be. That is, until I spoke to Clark and Tasha at Coastal Windows. Coastal windows botched a bay window job for my 85 year old mom. First, it took months for her order, then it was the wrong dimensions, then she was pushed to make a decision on whether to keep the incorrect window or wait for a remake. When they finally installed the quality of the install was messy and poorly done. And when asked for compensation for all the problems, she was given a $100 gift card. This was a $6k job. The manager gave excuses for the mistake but would not make any concession on the cost. Never go to this business. No star for this company ever. read more

We contacted Coastal Windows when our large 6' high x 11' wide second floor picture window broke into many pieces. Ethan was able to come to the house and give us a quote within a few days. He was very polite and respectful - not pushy at all. We explained to him that after having a single large window upstairs for over 50 years, we really wanted to replace it with another single large glass window. All of the quotes we received from several window companies (including Coastal Windows) all proposed filling the space with 2 or more windows because it was the most cost-effective and easiest option. I wanted to share my experience as this company deserves your consideration for your window project. I believe Coastal Windows will have your best interest as their top priority, just as they did ours through every step of the project. Our lanai went from a dusty, dirty hangout to a clean, weatherproof I-always-want-to-be-out-there living space. Our goal was to replace screened openings with windows to keep out dust, dirt and water. The more window companies I talked to the more ideas I got. However, it was not till speaking with Ernest Chang at Coastal Windows that I was convinced we were making the right decision. Ernest was very patient and actually listened to everything we wanted to achieve with our window project. He helped us work through many details and came up with a solution better than we even imagined. One wall went from 8 screened openings to 4 large sliding windows. When we started we were just going to fill the existing openings with similar size windows. That would have been a huge mistake. This alone set Coastal apart from most other companies who would basically say "tell me what you want and I will let you know how much." Coastal actually consulted and planned with us. It may sound cliche, but that old saying "you get what you pay for" holds true with Coastal Windows. You may pay a bit more, but your end result and your experience from start to finish will be better than expected. Here is what you are paying more for: top of the line windows with no moving parts to break or fail that are designed and built here on island; complete removal of old windows and installation just like new construction ensuring structural integrity and weather resistance; and a vast knowledge of our weather conditions and what works and what doesn't. Breakdown of my experience: Sales process with Ernest Chang: this guy knows his stuff and tells it like it is with amazing tact and respect. He listens to everything and actually hears what you have to say. You could tell he was less focused on the final sale and more focused on what we wanted to achieve that would make us happy. Project proposal: Straight forward and no hidden anything. I'm the guy who asks every possible question and leaves so stone unturned. Everything was communicated clearly and there were no issues or surprises throughout the process or upon completion. Also, every call and email was always returned promptly. Final measurements: These guys came in and made sure they knew exactly what they were getting into and what they would need for install day. If they felt they needed to pull a piece of trim to get a better look, they asked to do so. I am sure they knew they could, but they asked anyway. I respect that they had the consideration for us to ask more than once before just ripping into the walls. Installation: We had 6 very large windows going in and knew it would be a multi-day project. The crew from day one was kind & courteous from the moment they arrived to the moment they left. 5 full days and I never heard one inappropriate word. Now that is a huge feat to achieve with any construction project, let alone a 5-day window install in a house on a hill that has shifted and settled over the years. Went to the showroom and spoke to Erik, we set an appointment to come to my place to do and estimate. He shows up does his thing and says he will email a estimate on Wednesday when he's in the office. This was Monday when he came out. A week goes by an still nothing, not even a call or text. Then initially he gave a rough estimate of 1k per window and 1k to install each window and that was discounted 35%. This place is a rip off and found someone else to do it for 1/3 the price and they buy their surrounds from the same vender just use their own frames. Shop around people. Just because they advertise on TV doesn't make them the best. If he didn't want my business he should have just been honest up front. read more

I wish I could give this company more than 5 stars. I had a great experience with Coastal, and Erik our sales rep especially. So much so that even though they were the most expensive out of all the estimates we received, we decided to go with coastal because I was convinced I was getting the best value for my money and needs. There is also a little part of me that felt good I would be supporting a local manufacturer (i mean, how many of those do we actually have here in Hawaii, really??). If you are replacing windows and sliding doors for a house to be sold soon thereafter, perhaps a cheaper window company is for you. But we plan on living in our home for the foreseeable future, so quality in product and installation were of paramount importance to us and we were not disappointed at all. Our house is about 80 yards from the ocean, so the old aluminum window and sliding door frames -- particularly those facing the ocean -- were badly rusting and corroded. The glass we had was also around 30 years old and had lots of water spots stained into the glass. So, we looked to coastal for help. Erik, the sales rep we had, was very nice and responsive to our needs. I didn't feel like I was pressured into anything and he was quick to respond to all of the very many questions I had. Coastal replaced nearly all of the windows in my house as well as 2 sliding doors. The 4-panel and 2-panel sliding doors are simply outstanding and worth the cost. The vinyl screen door is a huge improvement from the old aluminum screen door we had. The interior appearance of the windows is outstanding. With coastal, you may choose a cosmetic trim from several choices that will be installed around the window and sliding door frame. The trim we got for many of our windows, which was recommended to us by our outstanding lead installer, Cirilo, gives our windows and sliding doors a very elegant look that we very much like. (If you plan on getting plantation shutters, let the lead installer know cause you will likely have to install a flat window trim instead of a decorative window trim around the interior of the window frame to better accommodate the plantation shutter) The exterior appearance of the windows is also very nice. The exterior appearance of the vinyl frame around the window glass is different than Windows Hawaii's top of the line vinyl windows (my neighbor has Windows Hawaii's Alii windows), so it's something you should compare for yourself. One thing we really liked about coastal's windows was that the picture window portion of the slider-picture-slider windows we ordered can actually slide both left and right for a stunning unobstructed view of the ocean on the second floor of my house! It's also an important safety feature we taught our kids: They just need to slide all the windows -- including the picture window -- to one side to jump out of the window in case of a fire or other emergency. It's a lot easier to do than breaking the glass imo. Double-pane glass is likely too strong for my young kids to break in an emergency. The window screen also slides! I dont know if Windows Hawaii's picture windows in a slider-picture-slider configuration can also do that. As to installation, if you go with Coastal, I suggest being prepared to at least repaint the exterior wood trim around the window frame. The installation method coastal uses is new construction, which you should google to learn more about. Through our research we discovered Windows Hawaii, CCI, and Diamond Head Windows all do the retrofit method of installation by default. We repainted our house exterior after window installation so that wasnt a big deal to us. The installers took 6 days to complete my job (20 windows and 2 sliding doors). They were courteous and worked from 830am to 330pm everyday, with 5 or 10 minute breaks in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon, and only a half hour lunch break. These guys worked extremely hard - no laziness here! At the end of the day, they cleaned up their mess as much as possible before returning the next day, but they were out of the house consistently by 330p, so they stop work to clean about half an hour or so before 330p. We have zero regrets about going with Coastal for our windows and sliding doors needs and do not have any reservations in recommending Coastal to you. read more

Wow!!!! This place is incredible!!! I just got locked out of our home. Was watering plants with the glass slide door closed but unlocked when I suddenly heard a "click". Long story short I got locked out due to door handle mechanism failure and had to pound loudly on the glass door for half an hour before my hard of hearing husband whom I knew wasn't wearing his hearing aids came to check out what the ruckus was all about. I frantically yelped, got a good feeling from seeing Coastal's name and messaged the business. Literally less than 5 minutes later and after their store hours, Erik messaged me back with a possible phone consultation time and a number to text a picture of the door handle to. I texted the pic since I'm in the midst of finals and received an extremely helpful reply even though the doors are not their product. All I need to do now is take the pic to the hardware store buy new handle parts and possibly screen door wheels (still need to take a pic of that with a measuring tape next to it..what a brilliant suggestion by Erik). And then hopefully soon I can be out with my watering can, and mask safely taking care of our plants again. A deep heartfelt thank you to Erik of Coastal Windows. Last night we had a crazy powerful rain storm with thunder/lightning. Under a flood watch so we had closed the Coastal sliding window the night before. Despite the three foot eave right above the window, the winds periodically drove sheets of rain right at the window for much of the night. Zero leakage! Just bunches of water droplets all over the outside in the morning. I inspected and saw that the weep holes that drain the water down at the bottom had done their job well. Coastal windows have lots of good size weep holes that are needed when we have torrential rain like last night. So we're real happy with the Coastal window's quality and performance. read more

My boyfriend has been talking about replacing his windows for so long and the time finally came! It started with the building manager taking measurements of all the windows and handing those over to Coastal Windows. A month or two later, it was finally time to start replacing the windows. There were 7 locations that they needed to attend to: the living room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms, and a bathrooms. They brought all the materials they needed outside in the apartment building hallway and in the living room. They started with the living room and kitchen first, letting residents be able to stay in the bedrooms while the mess is going on outside. They laid down a long plastic walkway to avoid prints on the floor. They were respectful and took their shoes off. They also started the bedrooms but they didn't fully patch the outline until the next day, finishing the bedrooms first so we have a place to stay while they finish everything else. The second day, they didn't take their shoes off and the whole place was dusty. The dust was expected but they didn't continue with the plastic walkways and they had shoes inside the apartment. When they completed all the windows, I inspected the finished product. There were some peelings outside from the ceiling which I thought they'd fix but didn't. There are handprints on the white ceiling in one of the bedrooms and some parts of the frames and walls were dirty. They also forgot to insert a screen for the kitchen window but they returned a few days after. Besides that, the guys were great and quick with their work. read more
