Don't be jalous(ie). My review for KKTF Hawaii is quite tardy. And so, I will attempt to make this review short and sweet. KKTFH was 1 of 3 companies I had contacted about replacing multiple window jalousies in our living room, kitchen, and bathroom (some of the windows could not be opened). Of the three companies I contacted, Kalei from KKTH was the lone person that recommended replacing the jalousies and NOT the entire window(s). The other companies recommended to either install tinted windows, sliding windows, and/or replace the windows entirely. One gentlemen even went was far as to say they'd have to custom the jalousies to fit the glass panels because "every home is different". But, I digress. I first contacted KKTH via Yelp, and received a message the following day asking me to please email them with my name, address, and contact info. It was a pleasure working/corresponding with Laena in scheduling the appointments for estimate as well as the installation days. Kalei arrived on time on the appointment day. He was very friendly, humble, and outgoing. My mom and I felt immediately comfortable. After he looked at our windows, and we explained what we'd like done, he suggested replacing the jalousie mechanisms as he observed that our glass panels were not damaged. He said this was his suggestion because he felt we didn't need more than that, and that the cost would be more affordable. He took some measurements, provided his business card, and told us he'd be in touch with his estimate. He emailed a detailed estimate within the week, and we had 1 month to accept or not. We accepted his estimate, and I worked with Laena in scheduling the installation days we as well as payment. The installation occurred over 2 days in mid-September 2021, and we were very pleased with the professionalism of the workers that came to our home. NOTES: 1. Payment was made by check. Great find, awesome service, and very helpful staff at KKTF! I was trying to find replacement locks for sliding glass windows from a place that was built in the late 80's. I actually checked S&T, but they were of no help. Didn't even look into it and recommended that I go check ReUse Hawai'i. Decided to try KKTF, as they also came up in my Yelp search. Used these guys to replace all the jalousie window hardware and glass in a studio apartment I'm rehabbing. They were recommended to me by a business acquaintance. I previously got a ridiculous quote from the resident manager's recommended contractor. $3600 reusing the same glass. I didn't even bother calling Screens & Things even though they are right down the street because I already knew they would be the same price or higher. These guys quoted me $3300 for everything including new glass and new screens. So it was a no-brainer. Finding people to replace jalousie hardware is tough. I'm satisfied with the work. I'm a retired union crane operator. I spent 48-years in the construction trades. My lanai door was completely frozen and would not roll anymore. I completely avoided Craig's List and spoke with other business professionals to find out who they would use to fix my problem if they had the same issues at their home. That's how I got KKTF's name and phone number. I made one phone call, and a woman answered the phone and arranged for someone to estimate my repairs. To my surprise, the estimate was to occur reasonably quickly a day or two later. The gentleman arrived on time (unfortunately, I was amidst a last-minute unexpected Zoom video teleconference with the family courts at the time). The adjuster spent less than 2-minutes looking at my lanai door and silently gestured to me on the way out that I would be called with the estimate. So far, I was really impressed with KKTF and looking forward to doing business with them. Unfortunately, a whole lot of stupid kicked in from that point on... About 5-days later, I had a notification that someone had blocked their number and tried calling me. My phone is set not to ring or disturb me with those calls as they are A-L-W-A-Y-S from scammers, telemarketers, or robocallers. However, I noticed that my message light was blinking. When I checked my messages, it was from a woman at KKTF (I'm not going to use her name and embarrass her) who gave me a quote of approximately $250 to put a pair of new rollers under my sliding glass door. I thought this was a reasonable price and wanted to accept the offer, so I responded to the woman via the email address she gave me and tried calling the KKTF office, only to get their voicemail. My email and voicemail message explained that they could not reach me with a blocked number and why I had my phone set that way. A day or two later, I received another private caller voicemail message from the same woman telling me the exact same thing she said to me in the first voicemail message she left me. She never responded to the email message from me but instead ignored that message and instead opted to block her number and leave another voicemail. This was getting frustrating because I wanted to do business with this company and get the repairs done and move on, but this woman was making that impossible with her ridiculous phone games. Once again, I sent the same email and left the same voicemail, only this time I was upset from the sheer stupidity of a company agent playing stupid phone games with hidden phone numbers like some African scammer! I unblocked my telephone number because I had absolutely no doubt that the same female dim bulb would block the number and call again instead of merely responding to my email. I wasn't disappointed because the dim bulb did call again within an hour, and I was eager to both get my door repaired and find out why a legitimate business would play stupid phone games like some lovelorn 13-year-old girl in study hall! Sadly, I didn't get that chance because the woman immediately laid into me about not appreciating my tone of voice and how she was a mother working from home and blah blah blah. I couldn't get a word in edgewise other than to say, "So, you are going to ignore my emails instead of simply responding to them instead of playing the same silly phone games?" And she went back on her tirade. I ended the call. Folks, I didn't call a glass company at random to make a date with someone I don't know and can care less about. Especially someone too dumb to understand plain English. I just wanted my sliding glass lanai door repaired. I sent the company a photo of my 10-year old daughter and me to let them know that other people in the world have children and don't hide behind blocked company telephone numbers. I cannot attest to their work beyond the initial assessment to do the estimate. I know their communication skills with people who are anxious to do business with them suck. Especially the social retard who works for them that thinks that she is all that and a bag of chips too. As an awesome aside, I called Home Adviser, who set me up in mere minutes with a company called Redo Hawaii. They estimated the job at $80 for parts and labor (which was less than a third of what KKTF estimated) and then came over and had my sliding door repaired and the job completed within an hour. Instead of the $80 they asked for, I gave them $150 because they were worth it. read more

I am extremely happy with the service I received here! I moved into an old family apartment that needed the bedroom window replaced fully: the old window was frozen open and very gross and dusty. KKTF Hawaii was very, very patient and understanding and we even had to reschedule several times due to Covid concerns! Everyone I worked with was friendly and professional. Leana was helpful, making suggestions, then arranged for an appointment with Kalei, who surveyed our property and helped me make a decision an how to proceed. When the screens arrived, Stan removed the old screens, replaced the broken jalousie and installed 4 security screens in under 2 hours. Money Savers! Okay so my jalousie windows were completely rusted through and could not close. Scary thing to be in during hurricane season. So.. First thing I did was research on fixing them. First piece of advice from google was to spray silicone, let it sit for 24 hours and try to open and close them. It worked a little but not enough. Now I had to call around and get solutions from window companies. I called about 6 different window companies and ALL of them told me that they don't repair and I would need to replace the entire window. Of the 6 companies, 3 came for estimates and didn't even bother getting back to me. The other 3 came back with estimates of around 1200 dollars a window. My window is 3 feet wide by 2 feet high and I have two windows that needed fixing. I was ready to have my kids start pan handling. After that I decided to call one more place before giving into replacing both windows. I called KKTF and when I called they didn't answer but called me back the next day and set up an estimate a few days later. After the estimate, we were told that we could replace the window or they can fix it. YES! Fixing it was an option!! Cost to fix it was 300 dollars compared to 2400 dollars for replacement. Window installation was adequate. They had to come back again to fix caulking--the edging was unfinished. My husband is a window tinting contractor and he was really surprised at how they left the window so ugly. He said just a little bit of care would have made it look better. I am writing this review for an 80 year old auntie. I am sad at how contractors take advantage of older ones. They would not have fixed this window if we did not encourage her to complain. The worst part though is that Kalei, the owner of KKTF, knew going into it that she was replacing these windows so that she could get a better air conditioner. She has a small Waikiki 1BR apartment that only allows 1 AC so it has to be good. These folks told her that she would have to get AC separately and gave her a recommendation to Affordable Air Conditioning which turned out to be a joke--AAC said they don't do work in her building and treated her terribly. Now, that she has paid Kalei, he won't even return her calls to get another AC recommendation, so we are trying to help her go back to square one to finally get her AC. Last week, while renovating my loft, I noticed the seldom used window required repair. Upon initial investigation , it was determined this jalousie window was more than inoperable. The aluminum hardware was essentially corroded away. Without resources to try and replace the pieces myself, I decided to call a window company, who told me the window needed to be replaced at an estimate of approximately $2,500; to me was really ridiculous . Then I called KKTF Windows Hawaii and was met with a friendly voice, who assured me I could schedule to have an estimate for the next day. After the initial meeting, I received an estimate and scheduled for repair in just 2 working days. It was such a surprise that the estimate was 8 TIMES LESS than the previous company's estimate. My bedroom closet sliding doors have always given me a headache. The darn thing just won't slide. I have to put all my weight on it to make it go. I recently experienced a break in to my house and they pried the back window open which not only broke the glass but bent the aluminum window frame. I called every glass repair company to get a quote. Prices were all 700 to 900 but none of the companies could assure me they would be able to save the aluminum frame and several companies wanted 100 dollars just to come out to proved me a quote which would be applied to the repair. I signed up for one these yelp accounts specifically so I could post a review for this company. It's a pretty small company (I think), but the owner took the time to explain things to me and I really got the feeling he wasn't out there trying to make an easy buck. We were told by another company that they couldn't repair my windows. It was going to cost us over $6K to replace them. We rent the unit and didn't want to invest this amount of money to replace the windows. I called around to a couple other places to see if I could get a better price and didn't have much success. When the owner from KKTFcame to the unit to take a look, he told me he could replace the windows and install new ones but that he would be able to fix them so they would be in working order if I wanted that as an option. He even gave me two quotes so I could choose. Replacing all the windows would have been $4.5K, which was still lower than the other quotes I received. But doing the repair was under $1K so I took that option. Him and another tech did the work and we are really happy with the results. I wanted to write about this experience because KKTF is really a small business that is doing good work. I hope others read this posting and will support this business. read more
