I have been taking my personal and business computers to Fortress Computer Pros for around 10 years - I make a habit of taking my machines in once every year or so, or when they start getting sluggish. I've always been pleased with the work done and the professional customer service. Yesterday I had a strange issue where my laptop wouldn't turn on. Ron spent about 10 minutes on the phone with me and walked me through remotely some troubleshooting steps that didn't end up working so I took the machine in. Marc helped me for about 15 minutes doing additional troubleshooting at the front desk and was able to fix my issue and tell me what had happened. He then didn't charge me for any of this time. Wonderful guys who really helped me out. They got me into my computer after I'd "locked myself out". They also cleaned up all the junk on my laptop to get it going quickly again. They have great personal service and follow up. They track every single thing they do on your computer. Only thing they could do better is reach out while laptop is in shop to let you know if things are being delayed and why, because it took 1 week to do everything that had to be done. But other than that, I highly recommend these guys! They are super careful with your laptop. read more

Came in with my old Gateway laptop which had a problem of the battery not charging. Marc was helpful in locating the source of the problem. After testing the most common problem in this case, it was diagnosed as a bad motherboard. Mark did not try to sell me any gimmicks, but instead informed me of the different routes that I should consider. One being that the cost of a new motherboard and install would run me the same price as a brand new laptop. I was very pleased with the knowledge, service, and respect that I received there. Nice bunch of folks. Honest and straightforward. Reasonably priced. Second time I've used them. First time they fixed one problem and another cropped up soon after the original repair. The immediately re-diagnosed (at no charge) promptly discovered the problem and acknowledged that it was too expensive a repair. Why I came back again? They actually refunded the $$ I spent for a hard drive (which I DID need for the original repair) even though it was already installed. Doesn't get much better than that, now does it? read more

I tried installing a high-powered graphics card(GTX 660) in my desktop, but ran into problems and wouldn't start up correctly so went into Fortress Computer pros after seeing their high ratings on yelp. The diagnostics price was $59.99, which is a few dollars more than other places, which i'll get into later, but let me just quickly say you get what you pay for, and this place was awesome. The guy at the front desk (I think his name is Marc, might be the owner) was an awesome guy. Let me just say that iv'e been to other Pc repair shops and my experience has been that they always try to nickel and dime you (my brother recently went into a place in Mira Mar) or always trying to get a little extra from you, which I absolutely hate. This place was not like that at all. You get a feeling that this is just an honest business, no shenanigans whatsoever, I was very impressed Initially they said that the graphics card was too strong for the motherboard (not sure what model but my pc is an acer aspire). I had already upgraded the PSU (power supply unit), so I knew it couldn't have been that.. They were able to boot it up and tell me what was wrong with with (the cpu was out of place which I did when I was putting in the card myself). They fixed this and got the PC working again. When I went in, Marc suggested that they try another grpahics card, to make sure it was the motherboard. Turns out that the660 series wasn't initially compatible with windows 8, but they were able to change something (I forgot exactly what they did) and got it working on my PC, I was super stoked. All I had to pay was the $60, which I felt other places might have charged more for the extra work Most places will probably charge $40 -$60 for diagnostics, so it isn't that expensive. But these guys are legit, do good work, and aren't going to try to swindle you for $. If you have a computer problem, trust me, go to them. They will do everything in their power to make sure your computer I show you like it, at good prices as well. If you want quality work (which they explain to you in detail what was the problem and what they did to fix it, which is a plus) at fair prices and just an overall good experience, go to them, you willnot regret it. I WILL be going back to them for sure if I ever run into another computer program, and would recommend them to anyone and everyone. If you go to them i guarantee you will be giving them 5 stars on yelp when you leave. I never do these yelp reviews because I haven't been to many businesses where they just excell, but here I am, I was that impressed. I even signed up for this just to leave them a good review. The technician, after he was done explaining to me what they did and how, even asked what games I played (seeing the high-powered graphics card) and we talked about that for a little bit. Don't bother trying to go to other places to save a few dollars, computers are big investments so take it to them. They won't let you leave unless you are happy with everything. I can't even imagine how I'd manage without Fortress Computer Pros. I have a home office full of equipment that I know how to use IF - and only if - everything is running smoothly. When it's being temperamental, I call Fortress and one of their technicians takes over my computer and remotely solves the problem. This is so much easier than waiting for someone to make a service call or hauling all my stuff up to Rancho Bernardo from the beach area. James Nestor of Fortress built my computer so that I could have a machine perfectly suited for my needs, and I really love it. As others have said, it's great that they are open Saturday (although shorter hours) and everyone is easy to deal with and honest. Marc and his Fortress Computer Pros group are great. I have used them twice. Both times they were straight forward about the problems with my computer and along the way taught me a lot. The first time, the outcome was not what I had hoped for, but these professionals did everything they could and then told me the bad news. Nonetheless, I appreciated their efforts and honesty. The second time, a different computer, and the outcome was what I was hoping for. This experience was the same as the first time: straight forward presentation of the problems found, honesty about what they could and could not do, and, again, taught me more about computers. What better praise can there be than that I returned to them the second time, even though the first time did not provide the outcome that I had hope for? Marc and his staff are professionals who not only know what they are doing, but they provide invaluable service to those of us who do not know what we are doing. I have to say that there are a few things a person should never give up in life. . . I know, sounds like I'm about get on a soapbox and spout poetic nonsense, but that is what I'm about to do, so bear with me. You should never give up a great cup of coffee nor a great mechanic or a dentist you can trust. Computers and computer software issues is another matter altogether. Computer failures seem to be the bane of my existence and as a healthcare professional and a writer, when that baby is sick and you're about to lose your sanity as to why, oh why, for the umpteenth time, the computer has once again turned psychotic (as much as an inanimate object can be), who can turn to for help? I recently had such an encounter---no, not with intergalactic aliens or enduring another of my aunt's "experimental" meals--- but with my computer. Oh rapture, oh joy. I encountered the "9-1-1", the "page 13", the "code red", the dreaded "blue screen of death" + computer = disaster. Again. The challenges of healthcare I understand. Not computers. Fortress Computer Pros is a very steadfast, reliable company, providing insight and professional support. I trust them and my gratitude is endless for their help. They provide great customer service, including phone/remote consultations which prevented me from using a baseball bat and a shovel to bury my computer remains somewhere in my back yard in an unmarked grave. I was never rushed and all my questions were answered. They have seen me through a flurry of computers and upgrades over the past several years and are very good at what they do, not to mention their reasonable repair costs. They seem to be good professionals, knowledgeable, already serviced few computers with them, would definitely recommend them.

This deserves another review. I brought my computer at the beginning of February to Fortress. They said the problem was an air cooler for the CPU and that I needed a new case. They did this work but the technician Patrick (who did most of the work on my computer) cross threaded all the screws on my motherboard while transferring it. Also the latch for the screw on the CPU cooler was broken on a newly purchased item during install. Air flow was deemed a problem but they also installed my Power supply upside down incorrectly so that doesn't really help. The computer shuts off every time I bring it home and I get critical errors every time I shut off the computer in the Event Viewer. After bringing it back about 8 times, they try to tell me its my Crucial hard drive. They sell me an old Samsung 850 SSD 500GB for roughly $250. They tell me they can't get it to shut down with new hard drive, I suggest to bring it home and it shuts down that night. I'm also still getting critical errors with the new SSD, even though my hard drive tested fine before. I had to demand a refund for the overpriced SSD that amazon sells for under $150 and use my old hard drive. I brought my computer somewhere else that fixed it. Very disappointed with how far this shop has fallen since they won best computer shop in 2010. It took about a month of tests to find out that Fortress couldn't fix my problem and even damaged my property. If I hadn't brought my computer to a REAL 5 star place, it would have never been fixed at fortress and I'm sure I'd have tons of more hoops to jump through. I also asked the owner to use a different technician (maybe one with better critical thinking skills) and he kept having the same guy (Patrick) do the same shit work. They do not listen to customers and are not a good shop. Almost forgot about this, also installed not my "keyed" version of windows 10 Pro so that was fun after getting hardware changed out. I came to computer pros after I paid $80 to a guy that was recommended by a friend at the gym. He basically told me that my hard drive was shot and that if I wanted to recover the data I would have to go to some forensic data recovery place that would charge me an arm and a leg to even take a look at my hard drive. I saw the reviews on Yelp and took it to computer pros to see if they could do something about it. I actually brought my other computer because of s screen in to see if they can repair it. Although there was so snafu (the screen that was shipped to them was the wrong one), they replaced my computer screen once the correct one came in and my data from my old hard drive was transferred to my new computer. Their prices are very reasonable since I still have my arm and my leg. I would recommend them to all my friends and will give their card to the friend from the gym because his IT guy was a waste of time and money. read more

We took our kid's laptop in this morning and feared the worst, as it wasn't even turning on. After pricing them at Costco over the weekend, we were sort of resigned to the fact that we would be spending $1,000-plus on a new model. Well, it turns out that "someone" had taken the laptop apart and not connected something properly. Fortress got it running in no time and didn't charge us a penny.
