I provided Tech 2U the exact name of the virus (yumeino.co.in) that was giving me a pop-up notification saying I was infected with 13 viruses. Given their vast experience, it's hard to believe they didn't know that my computer wasn't really infected, it was just a notification that could be muted. It took seconds to fix it. Instead, they required a full-diagnostic fee of $249 which took over 2 hours. So, if you are getting virus notifications, check your computer's notifications first before calling anyone. It might save you a lot of time and money. read more

The lack of professionalism was absolutely the worst I've seen in a long time. The first impression should have been my warning, the show room is dirty, i waited 15 minutes without acknowledgment of my existence. I then paid $50 for priority service which ended up a couple days later for a call. I was lied to too about the refurbished computer I bought being a business computer not personal which there really is no such thing unless your a gamer buying a gaming computer. I was about to be charged over $250 for the change of a battery which I bought on Amazon for $29 and took 10 minutes to change. Run Run Run, there is a lot more to tell but bottom line is, I don't write reviews unless it will really help other people not get scammed!!! All said and done they went after the fact and changed my microsoft emails and passwords on February 1 and my Machine as they stated was picked up on January 31 which made all the money I spent a waste of time. Luckily I have friends in the business that solved what they really messed up, and all my accounts have been retrieved. Avoid TECH2U. They do not meet schedules. They play arrogant head games and they overcharge. I took my laptop to TECH2U in Lake Murray. They said they were overwhelmed with business and shorthanded. That meant that I would need to wait a week or more for them to take a look at it. I called back at the designated time and they had not yet looked at the computer. They gave me another date for contact and I called again... They now said a tech was looking at it, but had no answer yet as to the cost or problem. After a number of contacts and pacification answers, I decided to give them two days to either complete my computer or I would pick it up. I finally did get an answer and they said they would charge me $749 to repair my HP Envy laptop. Their next communication told me that they were having problems updating the bios and had not solved the problem. THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED TIMELINE FOR COMPLETION OF THEIR REPAIR. I gave them another day to figure it out... then I picked up my computer. I took it to another computer shop. They fixed it within three hours of the time I dropped it off and charged me $135 instead of the $745 TECH2U was going to charge me. (TECH2U said they were giving me a deal at that price. NOT!) THE OTHER COMPUTER REPAIR SHOP WAS PROFESSIONAL, HELPFUL, REPAIRED IT IN ONE DAY AND CHARGED ME WAY LESS THAN TECH2U. TECH2U also charged me $129 for a thermal re-paste. The other computer repairman said they do it for a maximum price of $40. read more

What I most enjoyed about Tech 2u is I didn't feel they were looking to rip me off. The first call I made was answered by someone very friendly who broke down their process. I then spoke with a tech and had a free remote evaluation saving me the hassle of bringing in the very heavy desktop. From there the tech broke down what he looked out, what he felt the issue may be and options. He took the time to answer my questions and will keep my records so if I call again we aren't repeating everything. My computer broke, and after some troubleshooting I realized the hard drive was faulty. I brought it in to get fixed, only to have one of the reps assure me "it was probably the OS" after talking with him, it seemed as though he knew what he was talking about, so I went along with it. I needed my computer for school so I opted for the 50 dollar priority fee. After 7 hours, and 3 updates, I get some awesome information- it's the hard drive. And not only that, they want to charge over 500 dollars (including a military discount) to swap out an their insanely marked-up m.2 (that takes 5 minutes to do) and install an OS (which also takes 5 minutes to do) I said I would be picking up my computer since those prices are outrageous. Upon returning to the store, I was told I needed to pay the 50 dollars since the tech "looked at it" even though I had told him what the problem was when I entered, and he spent 7 hours telling me something I already knew. I ended up going to best buy and spending 130 dollars on a new m.2 and installed it within minutes and used my usb flashdrive to reinstall windows. All of which took me 20 minutes and less than 150 dollars, compared to the 50 dollars Tech 2U charged for absolutely nothing, and 7 hours of "looking at it" This is extremely unprofessional, and the tech seriously made this shop look like a bunch of amateurs. Maybe I went in on a bad day since there are mostly good reviews, but I was at a loss for words when I diagnosed the issue and brought in the computer so it can get fixed while I was at work, and was going to be getting charged 500 dollars plus for 20 minutes of work, including 50 dollars and 7 hours of "looking at it" Will not go back to this place. Everything is current and I'm good to go for the next five years. I couldn't be happier. I got my money's worth. It's unfortunate that Tech 2U wasn't able to fix my seven year old iMac remotely, but it wasn't their fault - when a hard drive is dying, there's nothing you can do remotely. So they applied my balance to a visit by their technician, Anthony, a true professional. He accurately kept track of the time and let me know when my balance was used up and we were back on an hourly basis. It took three visits: one to diagnose and make recommendations; one to set up the new equipment, and one and a half to transfer data. Last year was an interesting year, everything and anything flopped...trying to find a good tech to work out all the issue was like harder to find a pin in the haystack!!!! I'm glad they offered it, cux the past any IT company that does maintenance to any of your equipment is easily runs in hundreds bare minimum!! They offer $30/mo remote service on one of your equipment, the next one become $28!! Currently I had 2 equipment under their care. One less thing for me to worry about, and if things start to fly off the handle like anything from last year. I got a place where I can call and have them handle the issues. Watch out for the bait and switch. They quoted me 229 to transfer material from old computer to new computer. Then increased the price to 389 once the showed up because they had to transfer programs also. I am fine with paying for work but they should be honest on the up front quote. Total bait and switch. I had a gaming rig from Azus bought around 2016. This year I started learning about how PCs are put together and the myriad of programs for them. Unfortunately you don't learn much without the experience of failing. I took it in after downloading a driver that did something odd to the motherboard. There was a high volume of computers in line for assessment due to coronavirus. Also, it's a fact in most pc and laptop repair that Parts also do not have the turnaround part order time such as Amazon Prime. I will not fault the business for a long line of people in need as we need to be kinder about these things during the pandemic. At the tail end of the coronavirus spike, as the curve started going down, we found a perfect motherboard, the ASRockFata1ity board, and we chose to switch the now completely obsolete computer case to a glass sided case by Fractal Design due to ASUS's proprietary front USB/ Audio, which just would not work with any board. The fractal design case was perfect for the new board. I would give all cable management an A in that no cables were connected haphazardly, and ties were used to manage them in an orderly and safe fashion. In the end, if I had tried to do this myself with parts, I would have spent possibly three times as much. The price including new parts and labor was good and I have a machine that plays all the games at solid 60, such as DMC5, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and its old as heck (2016). They did the darn thing! I'ts an old i7 with an aftermarket 1080. I have a new case with easy remove sides so I can add another ssd and with the fatal1ty board, even m.2 is an option now, which was impossible before. Finally, with the Fractal Designs case, I'm working with much better airflow overall. It is louder, but i don't want to know what kind of dust my old machine had in it. My middle aged computer now has a much better outlook on the time I can enjoy learning, working and gaming on it. Don't go here. I brought my macbook pro because 3 of the keys weren't working and got it back almost a month later and my whole computer was messed up. the fan wouldn't turn off, the whole keyboard was having issues. It wouldn't log onto wifi. they told me to bring it back in and they would fix it for free and they had it another two weeks before I got it back again and the fan still won't turn off even tho they said that was fixed. they also charged me lol. the keyboard is still having issues. big waste of money and time. if you're going to take your computer somewhere you don't want it to be an experiment. you want it to be tested for issues before you get it back. that's just expected. they must have been really busy because they completely looked over all the issues going on. better off going to apple which is saying something. read more

The service rep Dmitri was a dunce and unqualified. I had two issues. (1) Google Chrome changed my PC desktop shortcut format to a smart phone "swipe" format. He said my Chrome was not up to date. I said that Chrome updates automatically and proved it. He then recommended remove and reinstall Chrome. Did not fix the problem, but a later update by Chrome fixed this bug on its own (automatically by the way). (2) Issue with Microsoft Outlook. He started off by saying Outlook is garbage and I should change mail programs. He should keep his opinion to himself and help solve the issue. He recommended remove and reinstall. I said OK because I did not want to lose anything. The mail files transferred OK. I did not notice till a couple of hours later that he did NOT transfer my address book. Years' worth of contacts are gone. I was able to reconstruct most of the email addresses from old mail, but home addresses and phones are gone. I will NOT recommend to anyone. read more
