But, nowadays computer issues can impact us in so many ways, leaving us frustrated and feeling alone in this cyber world. My computer was the target of overseas hackers, with Google security letting me know about it. I returned to Tech 2U for help, as I was very happy with them after my first visit. The tech who helped me before, Graham, was so accommodating once again. He not only got my computer free of the hackers' attempts, but worked it so I should no longer be bothered by these malevolent scumbags. I highly recommend Tech 2U for everyone. My laptop wouldn't let me log-in. The manufacturer attempted to help but said that I definitely had a hard disk that needed to be replaced. They said that I would need to send it to them and that it would take at least a week to replace, not including the shipping time. I called Geek Squad and they gave me an appointment for 2 days later with a lead time of 4-5 business days after I dropped off the laptop. I was desperate as I conduct my business on this computer. Tech 2 U was amazing. They picked up my laptop and concluded after an intensive search that I didn't need a new hard disk drive, as well as dropped off my laptop. Their service is excellent. I am not sure what the problem was (neither did they), but I definitely would not hesitate to use them again should I have another problem with this computer. read more

Went in to get my laptop checked out for a hard drive issue. I met with Dominic and after a previous interaction with another computer shop, he was significantly more well-mannered and professional. I also was in contact with Ronnie who gave me the low down on the issues I was having with my computer. I was quoted for $199 but he kindly reduced it to $149 despite further issues that were discovered while the computer was being checked on. Initially I received a 2-3 day estimate, but my computer was in there longer due to a bad hard drive replacement. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get my laptop fixed due to a steep replacement part price + labor but I understand trusted Mac parts don't run cheap. The only reason why I'm giving a 4* instead of a 5* is that I had to repeatedly call and check the status on my computer (I think I called at least 4 times and received only 1 call back). Other than that, the employees there are professional and they're very welcoming! Even though my laptop wasn't fixed in the end, they were patient enough to diagnose the issues. read more

I had 5 or 6 old laptops that didn't turn on and really wanted the video pictures and documents I had on these laptops. They were able to recover most of the information that was on the laptops and put it all on 1 external hard drive which was great, having all the data in one place. It was a big project and they constantly kept in touch throughout the process giving me updates on how it was going. Logan and Brian were great. Little pricey, needed the touch screen changed out on my HP...dude offered to do it for me for about $290.00 and he would clean up my laptop...ouch!.. to much for me but he did offer to dispose/recycle my computer for free...no way! Ended up buying a touch screen replacement for my laptop plus a can of "canned air" for a total of 45 bucks and tackled the job myself ..it works like a champ................. recycle my computer? Had my second experience with a house call PC repair from Tech 2u. The technician was great, masked all the time, thorough and knew what to do. He even had to take the PC to the nearby La Mesa shop to utilize the work bench there and look for an extra fan part. Fortunately, a part was available and did not have to be ordered. Less than an hour later he was back, reconnected the PC, and things were good to go. Since I could not be without the PC for days by leaving it in the shop, the house call option was ideal. I brought in my PC since I had been experiencing blue screens of death for the past few months and I wanted the issue to be fixed since it would randomly bsod on me and I would lose all saved data when it crashed So I bring it in and just tell them the situation and they go ok we'll get back to you soon Timing wise they were actually pretty good, got back to me within a reasonable amount of time (one week or so). They first tell me that it's definitely not a hardware issue and in his words he says, "Flying colors! It passed the test" (sound familiar?) He says the issue is most likely a software issue and looks super buggy so they would need to wipe windows clean. (Should of gotten a memory dump file but I thought I trusted them) Tell me its gonna be $200 and fine ok I'll pay so I don't have to encounter these blue screens any more. Do the whole process, take it home, and literally within 10 min of booting it up, it crashes on me. I'm pretty pissed now because all of my programs (FL Studio, plugins) and money (easily over $500) I've spent on them are now gone and I'm still blue screening. But I give the benefit of the doubt and say ok maybe I did something wrong, maybe downloaded a bad driver for one of my external peripherals (mouse, keyboard, microphone, etc.) Bring it back and the repair guy gets back to me saying yea the problem was your audio interface (microphone) and that he actually had one as well and it would crash on him too. Now this doesn't even make any sense because my friend has the exact same set up as me (Focusrite Scarlet Solo version 2) and is using Windows 10 as well and he never experiences any blue screens. But hey, these are the "experts" here so he should be right. Bring the PC back home, crashes on me within 30 min. At this point I don't even bother to bring it back in because clearly they aren't doing anything. I then take into my own hands and look at every possible software related thing it could be, and it is clearly not a software issue. But just to be sure, I reset my pc, still crashes, and then do my own fresh windows media reinstall, and i still crash with literally nothing on my pc. I then look at possible different solutions with the error messages I was receiving, and I come across some articles that say with my related errors, (critical process died, unexpected store exception,) that it could be related to a corrupted ssd. But wait didn't the repair man say, "Flying Colors! It passed the test It's not a hardware issue!"? Yea okay there buddy. I buy a new SSD, take the old one out and would you look at that. Haven't had a blue screen for an entire week now, where before it would be every time I turn on the computer. Now don't get me wrong, these guys were pretty nice to me. Gave me a 30 day free period of bringing it back in if the issue wasn't fixed. Although I assume this is just part of the standard policy and they have to be nice. But telling me one thing and then me figuring out that clearly it is not what they said to me. Wasting a huge amount of my own time, which I had paid them to figure the problem so I didn't have to do this in the first place!? That is just not cool, I really hope people who aren't as tech savvy and can't figure this stuff out on there own aren't getting screwed over or scammed. Anyways I'm spending too much time on this, just needed to get this out there. TL DR: Spent $200 for them to wipe my windows clean, lose all my data, and to not even fix the problem. And wasted all my time to fix my PC on my own. Edit: Just read Kevin A's review with a similar sort of issue as mine. I agree they pretty much have as much knowledge of any person that can look up a youtube video or type into google, "how to fix a computer". Not experts. read more

We used to go to Bullseye but it was sold to Tech 2U. I needed to know why my cabinet design program was suddenly not able to display all functions. I told Ian the only change had been an upgrade to Windows 10. Realizing that, I had attempted to revert back to Windows 7 but was not able to. So the estimate was $189 to have Windows 7 put back on and if that didn't fix it, then I needed them to figure out what to do. A lot of money I thought but I needed this done and Bulleseye had recommended them. I now know that was simply a term of selling their business to them. Ian called me and said it was all ready to go. Only when I got down there, he'd installed Windows 10 and never bothered to look at my program. Oddly enough it was not fixed. That's sarcasm! Three days later, he called and said he figured it out. This time he had installed Windows 7, but my program was not fixed. To which he said, "Just use this button here, and see, the graphics are fine." Except they weren't. When I explained this to him he just said he didn't know. "Maybe its the GPU." Isn't that why I pay you; to figure these things out. "Well sorry I couldn't fix it." Then he told me my bill was almost $400. What!? "Well we added memory like you asked. That program will work much faster now." "Why would I have you add memory to a computer that can't display my program correctly?" I asked. I had him remove the extra memory. But still, I paid $189 for him to not do it right the first time, then install Windows 7, but not be able to figure out how to fix my program. He never checked the graphics card. So basically I paid to have Windows 7 installed. These people are a joke. FYI Ian: when the program can't display graphics and the fan is going 100 mph, that means it's the graphics card. I discovered this when I typed in the problems to the internet. And yet I paid you $189 to not come up an answer. You guys are unethical and Ian knows nothing about computers. read more

I went to the La Mesa storefront and specifically stated our problem and asked whether there was a technician who was knowledgeable in this area. The person there assured me that they could handle the problem and would send out a knowledgeable technician. The tech who arrived seemed to think it would be a snap. Three hours later it still wasn't resolved and he left because he wasn't able to work overtime. There was a tech connected over the internet who after several more hours was also unable to fully resolve our problem. They didn't charge the whole fee, just 2/3 of it but the issue still exists and I'm looking for a competent tech. read more

My honest opinion: The first visit in November 2012 went well. Nathan, the tech, fixed a nasty deep rooted "FBI" virus. So very happy. The second time was a joke. Made an appointment for 2-5 pm slot.
