Asus computer would not let me log in. Brought it in on Monday and met with Levi. He was able to log in and identify a couple of potential issues & said he'd have an estimate by EOD Wednesday. On Friday I reached out and he apologized for the wait. Short-staffed and a busy week. I came in a couple weeks ago to unlock my brother's computer who had passed. Marco helped me out. He had great customer service and went above and beyond to work with me, which I'm extremely grateful for. Marco was also kind enough to call me multiple times to keep me updated on the progress of the laptop. I'm not tech savvy in the slightest, but he was able to explain everything thoroughly enough for me to understand what the problem was. They have a policy where they hold onto your computer for about a week before diagnosing it and giving you a quote, but that wasn't a problem for me. You might also want to make sure your laptop is charged or bring your charger with you to the shop. My laptop stopped charging via usb c port so I took it to local repair place who told me the ports were damaged but were soldered onto motherboard and they couldn't repair it and only offered replacing motherboard (costs more than computer worth). I contacted several repair shops via yelp specifically asking if they could replace a damaged USB C port soldered to mother board. All but one said no. San Diego Computer Help (apparently also called Tech2U) responded with "We can help you with this". I took computer there this am (not close to my home) and the guy told me they would need 10-14 business days before they could even look at it. He immediately showed me refurbished computers they had for sale. I told him I didn't want to buy a computer nor did I want to replace the motherboard and I would only leave the computer with them if they could verify that they can replace USB-C port on motherboard if indicated. The guy calls his boss and the response is no, they won't do it because of potentially causing further damage to motherboard. So the truth is their reply to my specific question, "we can help you with that", was a lie. Thanks alot for a deceptive reply and a waste of my time. read more

I always like to support local technology help spots. As a former employee of one, I can recognize when they are legit, actually helpful, or have a good value. The guy who helped me earlier this month (January) was extremely genuine and helpful: not trying to sell anything. My laptop had a charging problem and he ended up helping me work through it to see what needed fixing. It ended up only needing a new charger which was ~30 dollars, versus getting it "serviced" which would be 3-4 times as expensive. My Dell computer, probably like yours, is bogged down with a lot of files -- a LOT of images, documents, and stuff. So much so that my hard drive was nearly full. I have an 8TB external hard drive that I wanted all the files moved to and called San Diego Computer Help, because I saw that they would actually come out if necessary (no Plu way I wanted to undo this monster and bring it in to the shop). Spoke to "Angel" and explained the problem. He had "Dimitri" call me less than an hour later. I wrote a great review for this shop and it's super helpful owner last April, but after a second visit with the same outstanding guy in the shop, Sergio, I just have to pile on. Twice now I have brought my computer for issues, alerts, or supposed malfunctions, and he's checked it out thoroughly and found the solution was not too complicated. AND HE TOLD ME SO. And billing reflected that! Everyone knows when you go to most shops you will be charged the (high) minimum rate on the wall no matter what, and then some other upcharge usually. Brought my computer in, to fix a weird intermittent problem, where the keyboard would sometimes work, sometimes not; after quite a bit of effort, over a two week period, the guys were able to clean the computer up, and resolve the issue---and they were right about the mouse; the software was not up to date---when I plugged the mouse in ( when I got home ) the problem began to resurface, within 48 hours. I took the mouse out, and, I haven't had any problems since. It was a longer process than I expected but, they resolved a frustrating issue that I would not have figured out, on my own. Thanks, guys. ORIGINAL: I am fairly surprised overall by the level of support I got here after reading and checking other YELP reviews. After dropping of my desktop computer (custom midsize ATX build) for a diagnostic, it took over a 10 days for me to get an update on the issues with my PC. I honestly would not have minded the length of time since I was out of town, except I had to call them and get an update myself. No attempts to call or email were made (although they claim to have tried to call my cellphone but I did not get a missed call nor did I receive a voicemail). Pricing. This place is pricey. They advertise their "quick jobs" (those taking roughly 5 minutes) as $50. All I required was a clean install of my Windows OS and that was priced at $150 (typical going rate for an OS wipe and reinstall where no HDD is being replaced or recovered is usually under $100). Fine. I pay the agreed upon fee. Upon returning back to my apartment I then inspect my computer and find that I am missing screws for the side of my computer (the access panel to reach the motherboard and GPU). Instead of replacing the screw with one of their own: THEY USE A SCREW FROM THE INSIDE OF MY COMPUTER INSTEAD. So instead of having enough screws to securely place the back and side plates of my PC case, I am short 2 and have to be figure it out myself. By the looks of it, my experience is a rarity. I hate being the only one with this negative experience but overall, I was personally not happy with Tech 2U/San Diego Computer Help at all during this entire experience. UPDATE: Wow! Within 24hrs I was reached out via phone by TECH 2U for the issues I experienced during my transaction. Quickly addressing the lapse in typical customer service they require of themselves, I was issued a partial refund and store credit. Aside from the refund and credit, the individual I spoke to truly made me feel as though he cared about my experience and building a good customer relationship. I would have given them a 5-star review for just reaching out and apologizing for their previous issues--this company goes FAR above and beyond in order to maintain its excellent reputation. I would 100% recommend Tech 2U solely based on this customer experience. read more

I thought the webcam on my chromebook was broken, although the computer was less than 2 years old. They showed this "ignorant" senior that a teeny tiny switch had been toggled, accidentally turning off the video for privacy. I was given a quote for the replacement of the motherboard and installation, along with an alternative option for repair.
