I was informed that I would be charged for a diagnostic and that that fee would be used towards the parts and labor should I choose to get my computer repaired. Within two hours my computer was fixed and I was able to take it home to game for the holidays for only $75. Yes my computer now has warranty stickers on it, that is stated on the wall when you walk it, it should not be a surprise. When I got home my monitor wasn't registering but Rod stayed on the line and walked me through the steps to correct my user error issue. Support small businesses! These guys are great! I bought an HP PC, that was defective, and the company that HP has a warranty contract with doesn't know how to fix computers. I was told to either take it to the Geek Squad, or send it back to HP, neither of which I chose to do. I took it to Geek Available, and it was diagnosed it with a bad motherboard. I raised h**l with HP customer service to no available, but after I spoke to someone in Consumer Escalations, they bought it back after I sent them the documentation from Rod and the other place. It took just over a week to have fully built, and all the software set up.. during the build time Ron did call a few times to ask specific questions about things that I did, or did not want on the computer which I found very helpful to give me a much better computer overall. For my online business I use a Dell XPS desktop computer, a new Netgear Nighthawk modem/router, and Spectrum gig speed (940 mbps download speed) internet service. Suddenly the network upload speed went from 40 mbps to almost nothing. A Spectrum technician checked everything and said it was a bad internet card on my computer. Dell said the same thing. I called Rod who said it was absolutely NOT the internet card. He came to my house that afternoon and in a few seconds sent commands to the Netgear Nighthawk modem/router that fixed the upload issue. He also removed some malware, took my computer to his shop overnight, cleaned out any dust, removed some unnecessary office network software that significantly slowed my startup speed, and brought it back by noon the next day. My experience here was excellent and I would not hesitate to refer this company to colleagues or friends. I had a desktop that was moving at a snail's pace. I bought a new one and took both to them. They moved all the data and files over for what I thought was a very fair price. I also brought my smallish printer and he hooked that up for me. I had had trouble with it when I first tried to install it. Then I had to call 3 times to fine tune a few things right after they did the work. The man I was working with (wish I could remember his name) was so patient and logged directly into my computer and solved all my issues. I took my 4-year old Alienware 15R4 gaming laptop into Geek Available for repair. My CPU/GPU fans were making a lot of noise and I knew the fan assembly would need a replacement. I am a good hardware guy, but while this laptop is very high end and wonderful, the inside of the laptop is not designed well for maintenance. Having replaced my SSD's previously, I decided to let a professional handle the fan assembly replacement. I have to concur with Nick - the experience of working with Geek Available was terrible, especially on the customer service aspect. We dropped off our mac on April 5th and were told they would have a diagnosis within a couple days, and the estimate they gave us was $300. A week went by and we didn't hear anything so I called the number they gave us to check on the status of the repair. From what I can tell, that's a number they NEVER answer. We left a message that wasn't returned. By trying the 'new computers' line, I finally got ahold of Sue - who was very friendly - but had no information for us. She told us she'd definitely contact us before the end of the week - she said to expect her call on Thursday. But another week went by and we still hadn't heard from her or GA. We emailed, we called, we left multiple friendly messages. After our messages or emails weren't responded to, I tried calling the main number and happened to catch the owner Rod who was incredibly rude to me. He told me that he didn't know anything about our computer, and this wasn't his problem. He told me about how he was trying to get a client back online after their server died at the moment, ie told me that another client's business was more important than mine. He said he would talk to Sue, but my understanding is that he didn't, because we only got ahold of Sue by once again trying to call the 'new customer' number, the only number she seems to answer. When we spoke to her, she said she had gotten our messages and email. Which means she was ignoring us! Weeks after dropping off our computer, and after finally getting ahold of her on Friday, April 17th, Sue finally contacted us by email (on April 20th), to give us a SECOND estimate (and no apology for their lack of response) nearly $600 -- twice the price she originally quoted us. I understand estimates can change, but the wait, the horrible communication, and in the end having the estimate jacked up like that really left us feeling like our money was better spent elsewhere. We opted to pick up our computer and take it to another company that was more responsive. Three days later, our computer is fixed & at much less than we were quoted by Geek Available. But this is perhaps the worst part of our dealings with Geek Available: When we picked up the computer, they charged us a fee for taking a look (which we understood could happen, though we didn't expect they would hold us to it after giving us the runaround for so many weeks) but what we didn't agree to or understand was that the computer was returned to us in worse shape. Everything had been unplugged internally (drives, etc) The computer was relatively functioning when we brought it to Geek Available, but completely NOT functioning when we brought it home. So in the end, I do not recommend Geek Available. The weeks spent waiting to hear from them, lack of response to messages, and returning our computer to us in a non-functional state but charging us for it anyway all show me this is not a place that cares about its customers or customer service. read more

So, in this version, I'll just use those aliases in quotation marks.] Instead of ordering a new OEM part to repair my computer, Geek Available attempted surreptitiously to use a substandard part (pulled, failed, or counterfeit) ordered from an unreliable eBay seller (originalpartsglobal). Since the con-men were being conned, the part was delayed; and, after repeatedly changed claims as to when the repair would be effected, I demanded my computer back. (At this stage, I began investigating, and discovered their attempt to get a cheap, substandard part from eBay.) The day that I was told that I could recover it, during the hours that I was told that they'd be open, their shop was locked-up and no one answered repeated knocking. Later, "Sue" flat-out lied and claimed that she'd been there and the shop open at that time. When I did get back my computer, "Rafael" told me that "Rod", the owner, insisted that I must pay for their diagnostic, in spite of their delays (and in fact despite their diagnosis having been quite wrong). Thereafter, I had a running battle with Geek Available, by way of the BBB and on various review sites. "Rod" told multiple different, self-contradictory stories, and posted shill reviews. But he was ultimately smart enough to refund that diagnostic charge, which undermined the court case that I'd been planning. I see from other reviews that things haven't changed much. I knew my Mac hard-drive was on the way out, I could feel it happening and when I took it into the Apple Store they confirmed it. My sister recommended Geek Available; she spilled a glass of milk on her boyfriend's MacBook a few months ago and they were not only able to restore everything, his Mac now works better than ever. I took my MacBook in for a new hard drive and memory upgrade and they had it ready for me in less than 24 hours. AND their price was a fraction of what I had been quoted at another Mac service place. I know its a bit iffy but until you go there and have something done then you'll understand why. I really dont care about names and stuff but rather see results. I took my computer here 3 years ago when my hard drive was failing, & they replaced it, seemed honest, & did a good job. Back then, I would have given them 5 stars & I did recommended them to friends. Today, however, I can safely say this business needs much better inter-employee communication. Tues 3/11: Unfortunately, my recent experience left much to be desired. When I brought my laptop in, I reported a # of problems to Chris at the front desk, including that it was freezing after I restarted it, it made a clicking noise, word documents frequently crashed, my copy and paste shortcut was broken, AND that I believed I needed a new fan. Tues or Wed: After bringing it in, they told me my hard drive was failing. They did offered me a discount on a new hard drive b/c I was a returning customer, which was nice, & the new hard drive itself works well. Thurs 3/13: When I picked it up, Chris said everything was fixed, & that it should work. I asked him, "What about my fan? Is it okay?" His response was something along the lines of, "Oh yeah, when they were repairing your computer, they said your fan is fine." Fri 3/14: However, when I got home Thurs evening, the laptop was still making a lot of noise, so I called Fri morning & said that I still believed there was an issue w/ the fan, so they told me to bring it back in. I brought it in around 4 PM before they closed Fri & explained that, if possible, I needed it back by Mon b/c I had class then, & Chris told me that it would probably be ready by Sat. If it was not going to be ready by the end of the day Sat, it would have been nice of them to let me know & give me a heads up. Mon 3/17: By Mon morning, I still had not heard from them, so I took the initiative of calling them myself. When I did so, Chris passed me along to his manager, who said when he replaced the hard drive, the notes he received said nothing about issues w/ the fan. I explained to the manager that I was very frustrated because: (1) I DID report issues w/ the fan when I dropped it off, so I'm not sure why they were not written down, & (2) I also asked, "If you weren't aware of issues w/ the fan, then why did Chris tell me they looked at the fan & explicitly tell me the fan was fine when I picked up the laptop & asked about the status of the fan?" The manager said, he did not know why he did that, & that that was curious of him to say b/c when you replace the hard drive you don't even open the area of the laptop where you would look at the fan, so it would be impossible for them to say that in replacing the hard drive, they noticed the fan was fine, as I had been told. He said a fan would normally be around $79.99, but b/c I was a return customer, he would give it to me for $49.99. I explained to him, that I did appreciate him doing that, but it didn't seem like they were that apologetic that: (1) I now have brought me laptop in 2x when I should have been able to bring it in 1x & have everything done & (2) I needed my laptop that day for class, but they obviously had not started on the work, much less ordered the part, & if I had not called, never would have known that it would not be ready on time. He just said he was sorry & understood & said to try & make amends for the trouble, he would pay for the part to have express shipping at no extra cost to me, & that in the meantime, I could pick my laptop up that day before class, & that they would call me when the part arrived (meaning I would be bringing my laptop back to them a THIRD time). He said when the part arrived, I would bring it back, & "It will only took 30 mins for us to replace the fan. Just bring your grocery list, go across the street to Rite-Aid or the grocery store, buy the groceries, & by the time you are done, we will be done w/ your laptop. Tues 3/26: Over 5 business days later, I receive a phone call letting me know that my fan had arrived. That's some express shipping. Thurs 3.27: I take my 3rd trip to there (having been told to come whenever & that it would take no longer than 30 mins), & drop my laptop off around 11:30 AM. Chris tells me he will call me when it's ready; however, I'm assuming that he is saying this w/ the understanding that it will take 30 mins as promised by the manager, & that he would just call me in case it was ready earlier. I sit in my car doing work for about an hour & a half, & finally, around 1 PM, I go in there to ask about the status of my laptop, & Chris responds, "I told you I would call you when it was ready." I responded, "Yes, but your manager told me on the phone last Mon, that this would take no longer than 30 mins, & that I could 'go get my groceries' & it would be ready by the time I was done, so maybe he didn't communicate that to you." Chris said okay, they would work on it, & it would be ready in about 20 mins. About 20 mins later, I came into finally pick up my laptop & they tried to charge me $79.99, & I had to remind them that I was promised $49.99 by the manager. read more

I have brought a few laptops here with in the last few years, with various issues from crashed hard drives to virus clean-ups, and they have fixed it in a timely manner. The owner operates the shop on Clairemont Drive under a variety of brand related names but it's actually one operation with the same staff. I had a disk drive problem with a RAID that Microsoft Support failed to recognize even when I gave them a clue but Geek Available found the issue quickly and replaced both drives with higher capacity ones at a fair price and very quickly. I had some subsequent issues but I do not beleive they were their fault (a Microsoft rep had previously screwed up something on my machine) and that was addressed with no extra charge. One of the very good things about Geek Available is that the owner, Rod, was outstanding in getting back to me quickly on each contact I had. When I first encounted an issue, I sent in a contact form on their website at 10:30 pm and got a response back from Rod almost right away, saying to contact him the next morning to address how to proceed. I have no idea what the circumstances were with the bad reviews that are posted but the impression I have is that they only want satisfied customers. They only charge an evaluation fee if you don't wind up using their services and if you do, the cost for the evaluation time is simply part of the repair charge. read more

Geek Available fixed my laptop fine but they also placed a bunch of advertisement stickers all over it. Advertisements for their shop. They put one on my keyboard and two more on the bottom. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the two on the bottom until weeks later and I can't get them off. So now I've got sticky gunk all over the bottom of my nice computer. I'm pretty upset about it, hence the bad review. It's like taking your car into a repair shop and finding that yes, they fixed it but they also put bumper stickers advertising their company all over your car without your permission. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR COMPUTER HERE. These guys are unprofessional hacks. I brought my macbook in for a repair at 11am on Tuesday. They said they would take a look at it and probably have it back the same day. Rod quoted me $150 to look at whether he could fix it or not. The receptionist, Sue, took the laptop from me and said she would call me soon to let me know the status. I am a law school student who brought my priceless workstation here because they said they could have it back in a flash. When 6pm rolled around (7 hrs later) and I hadn't heard back, I called Rod to find out what was going on, only to get attitude from him for not calling a separate number for status updates. When I called the number, Sue had no idea what was going on with the laptop. At 8pm I get a call from Rod saying it needed a new part and that he would order it in the morning, and that it should arrive Thurs or Fri. This part would be additional $120 on top of the $150. Okay, fine... When Friday rolls around, I never get a call. At 1pm I call Sue and leave her a message to please call me back. Instead of calling, she TEXTS me to let me know that the part was mysteriously "misrouted" and there was nothing they could do. On Saturday at 12:30 I get a call saying that my laptop is ready but they close at 1:30. Thanks for the one hour window! I run down there to find suddenly the $150 price for "fixing" my computer was now 200 because they "actually fixed it". There was NEVER a mention of $200, and it was nowhere on the invoice. All they had was excuses as to why this ordeal took 5 days for a simple part. They also said that text messaging customers instead of calling them back is completely normal. Reallllly??? Rod was completely unapologetic and the entire staff here was rude. No one ever calls you to give you any status updates and will not return your messages. I hope your phone receives text messages! The only thing worse than their customer service is the quality of their work. I took in a Sony Vaio laptop simply needing the DC jack repaired and explained to the person at the front desk that I needed it that day (which is why I took it to them since they bill themselves as "Same Day Repair"). She took it and explained that she was 95% sure that it would be the same day. I then called a couple of hours later and was told that they're "working on it" but shouldn't be a problem. I again explained that if you can't do it then simply let me know - she said she'd call back if they couldn't. After waiting a few more hours I called again, and again, and again, and again but didn't get an answer. When I finally showed up there was the receptionist explained "oh the tech couldn't get to it". The tech then came out and tried to explain a solution which was suspect at best. I stated that all I needed was two wires to be attached to the jack so I could power it up, but he still couldn't do it that night. I left (obviously disgruntled due to the extremely poor customer service). The tech then called me and tried to offer some alternate solutions (including a whole new clam shell or another cap) but this was too little, too late. I instructed him to simply put the wires back in place and I'd glue the cap later or have Sony do it directly. I was texted late that night that it was "Ready". In their defense I guess they did also call me to let me know the same thing the next day. When I got my laptop back all they did was pour a ton of glue in the jack and extend the two wires - something that according to my electrical engineers at work would have taken about 15 minutes (and now I also get to hear them laugh at no end - one quote was "my 10 year old could have done a better job"). The wires were also extended more than an inch beyond necessary, I'm sure to prove a point since I didn't let them "look around" for more "Sony Parts". For all of this incredibly shoddy work and horrible customer service I was charged $149. Now I get the pleasure of taking it to Best Buy to actually fix it correctly, on top of which I'm now days behind since I needed this laptop. All in all this was a horrible experience. The customer service was absolutely horrid, they never ever pick up the phone when you call, and the quality of work is almost criminal. The motherboard was not the issue for me. I knew how much it would be. I wasn't irritated at the price, you CLEARLY have something wrong with your eyes. My displeasure is at your business practices, the damaged casing and the keyboard. You replied after my first review, "Your statement is confusing though. Keyboard replaced without your authorization? computer was damaged? keyboard does not fit perfectly? that does not exist in apple world. it either fits or not. they are completely different among them. you cannot "force fit" anything" How could you possibly get confused from my statement? ya, the keyboard on my macbook has a large air-bubble that wasnt there before, the shape of a couple buttons are different (enter and shift), and there is no wear at all on the keys. THE KEYBOARD WAS SWITCHED there is absolutely no debating this fact. Are you trying to tell me that I'm lying about this?? Yes, mr expert, actually, you CAN replace the entire set of keys of a MacBook. You know as well as i do. I'm assuming one of your barbarians in the back ripped mine apart and damaged some of the original keys, so you had to replace it. Who knows...but nobody ASKED to do ANYTHING to the keyboard. And, again, how are you confused when I say, the casing was damaged. The bottom part, by the battery, and the sides, were all damaged like it had been dropped. I hate having to repeat myself, makes me feel like I'm talking to an inbred. I didn't come to this forum to get my computer fixed, I didn't come here to get you to look at my computer again. these guys rocked! My computer had a huge virus (thanks Norton) and they fixed it in a day and even charged me less than I was originally quoted. If you have a bug, or your computer just needs a tune up I'd definitely recommend. they were great! read more

If there were a NEGATIVE star, I would certainly use it for this place. I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only one who thought this place pretty much sucks! Price gouging and bait/switch is what the description on the Web Site should be... I took my Macbook Pro in that will boot up but has no video and they wanted me to pay over $150.00 with absolutely NO guarantee that it would be fixed. That was for basic troubleshooting and cleaning up the inside. Then, if that didn't fix it - they would then troubleshoot the components. I asked it they could trouble shoot the components first, before cleaning (to possibly save the 100.00) and they said no. Potentially - this could have cost as much as getting a NEW motherboard on Ebay for 300.00 - without the guarantee they can actually fix it. So - am now bidding for a motherboard to replace it myself. Luckily, I am in the field of technology and know when I'm being taken advantage of when it comes to this kind of work. Apparently taking a computer apart (in their words) takes quite a bit of work. I can talk my 14 year old niece through it in 10 minutes!! These guys are full of it. DON'T TAKE YOUR EQUIPMENT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF!!!! Here is a place in Fremont, CA that won't charge you unless they actually fix it and you can ship it there for cheap: DT&T Services Inc. UPDATE - Rod's response to this review should clue people in to what they will deal with. Bad attitude! This is constructive feedback along with all of the other 1 STAR reviews. Take it and learn from it OR continue to fight it and get more bad reviews. I was told you could troubleshoot the motherboard at the component level - I knew the liquid probably already did the damage, so why clean it? If you would have done what I asked - which is troubleshoot it - let me know if I need a new motherboard (or whatever), then we wouldn't be having this conversation. When I left the shop, I was told this would be done. I get a phone call a couple hours later saying it can't be done and I have to pay more. Today - I get a phone call based on this review. Then I get a blocked call. Everything that happens is going to get reported on this forum and to Yelp Legal. If it doesn't stop - I'm going to the BBB. read more

I have used several different computer repair companies in the past and was a little skeptical about trying someone new, but a friend highly recommended them so I gave it a shot. They really delivered on all accounts. They replaced my hard drive at a very reasonable rate and were able to save all of my content from the damaged hard drive. Several weeks later I brought it back in as I had picked up a virus and they removed it quickly and got me back up to speed. The girl at the front desk "Sue", is super nice and kept me informed throughout the whole process. I would definitely recommend them to anyone! Thanks you guys! read more
