Great dive bar right in the Village at Mammoth. Was there after a four day backpacking trip and even with our ravenous hunger, we couldn't eat all that was served to us. Good selection of beers on tap, but the barkeep working that night didn't seem to know much about them. Not a problem for me since I knew most of them, but it was a bit embarrassing to sit at the bar with my friend and watch her sort of make stuff up or say "I don't know" over and over when asked about the beers. If you're working the bar at a place that has 30 taps, you ought to know a bit about them! The whiskey and hard liquor selection was AMAZING. Sadly, we were not up to the task that night, but they had a truly amazing selection. Whistlepig, Ardbeg, you name it, they had it. The tot-chos are as advertised and ridiculous. Reuben was decent, though it's made with "deli-style" thin-sliced pastrami. That may or may not be your thing. Pretty rad CD jukebox with a decent selection (Run DMC, CCR, Beastie Boys, Bowie, etc). Kind of a relic since most places are turning to mp3 on demand boxes. Was cool to see some hand-written labels of burned mix CDs :D They had a couple of TVs and were playing baseball and UFC. read more

If you're looking for a great bar with great drinks after running the slopes, Clocktower is the place. Strong drinks, friendly atmosphere, jukebox, foosball, and pool. We got here at 7:30pm on a Saturday, only a dozen or so people here, and before 9 the place was packed! Great atmosphere, will definitely return next time we're in Mammoth! read more

I wish I could leave negative stars because this place deserves them right now. Granted, I've been a huge fan of this place for the last 2 or 3 years after their Christmas time screw up. Right now Im still dumbfounded by the lack of poor service I just experienced. My wife and I walked in there hoping to get the usual great deal with happy hour drinks and specials that we've become accustomed to when instead we got bar people that literally told us to go pick up our own food from the window after our buzzer went off (something that should only be used to claim your seat at a B.J.s or somewhere similar) at the bar. So, we ordred an order of Calamari each at $8 which is still a pretty good deal even though they went up $3 in a year and now cut them into strips as opposed to squares (which I really enjoyed). When they were ready we were notified via a buzzing coaster in front of us at the bar right in front of the female bartender. I looked at her thinking that she was going to go get our food, instead of that she looked at us and told us to "go get our food from the window, firstly do we want to "add" anything to our order". Is this some kind of new Mammoth thing where they make their patrons who are tipping get their own food and drink ? WTF ??!! We were at Mammoth Brewing Co. earlier and they sent us to the water station even though we were buying 2 entrees of food when we asked for water at our table (why even ask us how we're dking then ?). "Oh, the water station is over there asshole, thanks for the 20% tip that we made you sign for before you even knew what the service would be like" They make you tip there before you've even had your service. Back to the Clocktower thing- there were about 4 other people at the bar when the barstaff told us to walk to the kitchen ourselves and get our own food (Im assuming expecting a tip). Ive never felt so degraded as a customer as I did tonight. These people dont deserve their jobs if they are making their customers do their work for them. Fucking bullshit. read more

We stopped here for happy hour. Good prices on food and drinks. This place has a local feel to it. Service was okay. We decided to stop in again around 10 pm on a Saturday night. This is definitely the "hippest" bar in Mammoth...in a good way. They are primarily a whiskey bar and have just about everything you could ever want in that regard. They have a small selection of other spirits and good beer as well. It is downstairs in a basement and seems to be a pretty good escape from the overly touristy-ness of the bars in The Village even though it is located right across the street. read more

What a fun pub! My husband and I were staying above the pub in the Alpenhof Lodge, and one of the best parts of our stay was hanging out here. They have loads of beers on tap and even more available on the menu. The staff was really friendly and we had a lot of fun chatting with them and learning about the area. They also have a fairly extensive menu of pub food, and my husband and I enjoyed the tater tots. One of the best parts was how inexpensive the bar was. Beers and other drinks are very reasonably priced, as is the food. For Mammoth visitors who want to visit someplace relaxed and friendly, I would recommend the Clocktower Cellar! read more

We love this place! It's always fun, even in shoulder season, and has a good crowd! We love playing pool here and it's a good place to watch the game! We especially love Ryan, the bartender, he's amazing and so kind and is such a gentleman. He defiantly watches over all of the ladies and makes sure everyone is safe and treated respectfully and as women we definitely appreciate that!! If your looking for a place that's just a bit off the path with a cool local (less trendy vibe) you've found it. Big props for them having a nice selection of beers and even some rare Belgians. I'd venture to say this isn't really the place you go cruzing for 'snow bunnies' - maybe try the more commercial Auld Dubliner for that. The friendliest pub/bar in Mammoth Lakes! Every time I go to the Clocktower, I meet friends that I never knew I had. The selection of real ale is top-notch, and if you're a whiskey drinker, this is Nirvana. I met the owners tonight, and they are down-to-earth locals who are just as quick to roll up their sleeves and change a keg as they are to make sure that I'm having a good time, a good pint, and a good meal. I received information that freeskier.com was conducting a contest for best apres ski bar and saw the Clocktower Cellar was being currently rated as 4th best in North America. My girlfriend and I decided to try it that day to see what was garnering all of the votes and were definitely impressed. Their 4 to 7 pm happy hour prices were very reasonable and both food and drink portions were ample. We shared the fried calamari and fish & chips which were especially good. We were also fortunate to catch Alex bar tending and would recommend you try to visit when he's there and sit at the bar as he is very friendly and interesting. If you like whiskey, Alex is an expert and will steer you toward some excellent values if you ask. Alex currently works Tuesdays and Sundays. read more

Favorite bar in Mammoth. No douchey kooks or yups found at many of the other "establishments" in town. Great beer selection if you're a connoisseur and they got they likka license this past year and now have a decent selection of good whiskeys and scotches. Always good punk rock on the jukebox and pretty attentive bartenders. Definitely a local bar without the cocky "local" elitist vibe. Great little bar/pub right across the street from the Village. A popular locals spot (and you know if they go there it's for a reason). Kinda small but I would prefer to call it cozy. They have several flat screens, foosball tables, and a pool table for additional fun, plus an older (but working) jukebox machine (25 cents/song). Since its down in a basement it can get really hot and stuffy, especially if the bar is full, so dress accordingly! Tons of whiskey options.
