Updated review: Met up with fellow gold elite yelper Cheryl M. for breakfast. We chose Clementines because of its affiliation with Country Waffles and also that they serve their full NOLA Cajun menu the whole day with the exception of the Prime Rib. During this time of Covid they have limited indoor seating but the outdoor space is huge and preferable with the nice weather. The restaurant was busy at 9 am on Saturday with what looked liked a classic car or Cobra car club. Seated right away, the servers did a great job hustling from the kitchen inside the restaurant and the outdoor tents in the parking lot. We wound up ordering off the main menu. Jambalaya with shrimp 4 stars large shrimp, lots of andouille sausage. Crawfish etouffee 4.5 stars it was spicy with shrimp and plenty of Cajun flavors. Beignets 3 stars piled with powdered sugar, had to scrape off some to find the beignets. (3) Service was good. Still lots of parking spaces available even with the car club. Did have a couple pesky yellowjackets buzz us through out the meal. read more

Had this placed bookmarked for awhile so when Yelp friend George F suggested this place for breakfast I was eager to finally try...pass on breakfast food and had "linner" entrees at 9am which I prefer! I can easily make an egg, some waffles and hashbrowns at home and glad Clementine's offered a variety of items that's not specific to the time of day! Ordered the CRAWFISH ETOUFFE which was flavorful, plenty of crawfish with just enough sauce/rice with a nice kick...I would usually add the Crystal hot sauce but the dish had the right amount of heat already. The JAMBALAYA looked delicious and was full of andouille sausage with added shrimp..,sampled a bite and it was tasty but probably would've added a bunch of hot sauce to it. Of course, had to finish off with some beignets which were simple and nothing to wow about...one beignet left behind and not because I was afraid of looking like an oinker. :( Overall, a ***3.5 - 4 stars*** for this first visit and will return as a great option to meet friends for breakfast/brunch when they like ordering the basics and you want lunch and dinner items...great suggestion George! I always drive by this restaurant all the time. If you're in San Ramon and get off Bollinger, it's off this exit, conveniently located off the freeway near the gas station. I have been meaning to try this restaurant and I finally did. I think overall it was just okay. I ordered three dishes on a weekend dinner - the ettouffee as the main dish and two sides (clem mac n cheese, cajun fries). I think I was hoping for a more generous portion of the ettouffee for the price but they were definitely generous with the shrimp in there. In terms of flavor and texture, this was my first time trying the dish so I am not sure if it was supposed to taste like this or not but I wasn't wow'ed by it. So I am not sure if I ever return if I'll get it. As for the sides, I enjoyed my fries and clem mac n cheese. They have their clem mac n cheese which has peppers and sausage and a plan mac n cheese. Pretty disappointed! I LOVE Cajun/Creole food! When I saw the advertisement, the pictures looked inviting so we decided to come for lunch. I had chicken & waffles. My wife had the Smoking Joe's scramble. Wife: It was hot but the 1/2 waffle was cold. The main dish was bland. A little salt and sour cream helped but far from meeting expectations! Me: The 2 best things I had were the cranberry juice and the fried garlic & jalapeño grits. The waffle was room temp The chicken was old. Not spoiled but definitely not fresh. It tastes old or previously frozen. I asked one of the waitresses if they had fresh fried chicken and she replied, "if this is what it tastes like, all the rest will probably be the same" she suggested a replacement of hot wings. I agreed! The hot wings were delivered. They were hotter but still OLD! By this time, the waffle was colder and I was done. Experienced ruined! The most disappointing part is this place advertises as southern creole/Cajun! The food is NO WHERE near that kind of quality. I traveled pretty far to try it out and I could have saved money going to IHop by my house. I'm not intending to be mean but that's the level of disappointment I feel. It's horrible. I came here a few years ago and I vowed to never come back. I've been to Louisiana a few times and this is not their cuisine! This is not true Louisiana and/or Cajun style food. No flavor, unseasoned and sometimes over/under cooked. My daughter recently told me she came here, and I told her I wish she would've asked me first. (She agreed it was horrible, and did not eat much of what she purchased although she didn't ask it be taken off her check). It was the SERVER who agreed with her that it was not authentic and nasty, and took two items off her bill as a courtesy. Again, I've been to Louisiana a few times, and this it not it. Their drinks are good, I will give them that, but their food is not good, anyone saying it is, is most likely from San Ramon, has never been to Louisiana, doesn't season their food, and/or just doesn't know any better. I door dashed my lunch (St Luis Ribs) the worst ribs I've ever had. These tasted like two day old ribs, dry and not a fresh taste at all the meat tasted aweful. Unfortunately there is no soul in this "southern cuisine". Nor can you taste any love or even effort in this cooking. I wanted to like it since everything sounded so tasty, but the best thing we had was the cornbread which wasn't even warm. Still, the flavors were there. Ordered the Shrimp Etouffe which was under seasoned and had an extra layer of grease just floating through it. Rice was undercooked and tasted like Uncle Ben's. The oyster basket was also cooked in some old greasy oil, and didn't have much flavor. The sea bass was over cooked and dry. Expensive fish to overcook. My kids pasta looked like it been sitting out for a day and they just reheated it. Our server was kind and attentive, but didn't have one quiver of emotion flowing through his body. My fiance and I came here for breakfast one day. We were not very impressed. While the service was great, the both of us were highly disappointed with the food. I ordered the corn beef hash, and my fiance ordered an omelet. We both shared a waffle. We agreed that all the food was really bland. I usually never use the salt/pepper shaker when eating at a restaurant, but this time I had to because I thought the food was just really bland. Even adding ketchup did not help. Last time I went I came by myself and sat in the bar area. My service was VERY quick and my server was kind and attentive. On 10/28/23, my wife and I went for our 23rd anniversary for brunch at Clementines. We had been here years ago and had a good experience and meal. When we entered we were seated right away and before we had a chance to even look at the menu they asked us what we wanted to drink. Not a big deal, at least they were on top of it. We waited about 10-15 minutes before our waitress came over. When we ordered my wife got the chicken and waffles. The waitress asked her if she wanted white or dark meat. My wife stated she would take white meat. I ordered the Big Easy and the waitress asked if that was the country fried chicken. She didn't know the menu. I also ordered Beignets. We went through our drinks and waited 30-40 minutes for our food. There were lots of people sitting around that were not helped. Our waitress started to work on a 15-20 table top and basically ignored the rest of her tables. Someone brough us our food and they forgot part of my order. My wife looked at her chicken and waffles and noticed the chicken was all dark meat. Not just dark meat, but all the chicken she got were chicken wings. She started eating the wings and swallowed a bone. They were so brittle that bone kept breaking in her mouth so she gave up. Our waitress came once after I flagged her down and asked for two waters and a refill on my chicory coffee. She came back with one water and had regular coffee and decaf. I said I had the chicory coffee and she said they were out and she would brew some. She never came back. I ended up having another waitress get me a refill. The food was small portions and not anything special that would make me want to come back again. I had to flag down our waitress to get our check. She dropped off the check and never said thank you. I was about to not tip her, but in the end I gave 15% which is still to much for what we got. I did notice the $12 baileys coffee wasn't on the bill, I guess she forgot. This restaurant like many have really gone down hill. Why do people still go to restaurants like this when they have a big sign stating they are hiring for all positions. I wish I saw this when I walked in, because I would have walked out. I would recommend having a manager who actually walks the floor and other employees help out one another. I've been to New Orleans a couple of times and it's really hard to find authentic New Orleans / Creole food in the bay area, especially this far out in the East Bay. I've only gotten take out from Clementine's but the food came fresh even with delivery. Ordered the Fried catfish basket with hush puppies, kids chicken strips with fries, the blackened chicken sandwich with cajun fries and the cajun trio. -Catfish was fried to perfection and the breading was perfectly fried and crunchy with some corn meal mixed in it. -Hush puppies were amazing, can't go wrong with deep fried corn bread -Chicken strips were standard (what to expect for a kids meal) -The blackened chicken sandwich was the biggest hit and the stand out from all the options. The cajun fries were seasoned just right with just a little bit of spice kick -We were excited for the cajun trio but was a little lackluster. The crawfish étoufféd was the best out of the three (super flavorful), followed by the gumbo (seasoned just right, not too spicy), but we were disappointed with the jambalaya--it was pretty bland. Dining here confirmed my perspective of where I exist in the universe. I am an older male (55+) and I have a strange feeling this place was made, at least in part, for my demographic. The decor is midwest to me. The music was EPIC 70's rock, soul, and possibly disco. Threw some late 60's in there too. Combine the tunes with a strong Mai Tai (which they serve) and you start with a baseline of four stars. The cuisine was the quintessential example of comfort food. Only reason for a single star blow up was flavor. It lacked a bit. I could have just used more hustle. Sorry I cannot define it better than that but here is an example. I think the chicken and waffles at Beer Baron uses a fair amount of Vanilla extract. I did not find those types of subtle or not so subtle flavors during this power feed. That does not mean I would not return to hit it again. I would. The photos will speak for the rest. Last note, the dessert was like out of a high end Costco purchase, if such a thing exists. Came here for breakfast because our hotel that was within walking distance didn't have any breakfast for us to eat. We were a huge party since we came for a wedding. There were about 4 families dining with us. For a Friday morning we had the whole restaurant to ourselves, which was nice. The decor was New Orleans with pictures and menu reflecting what the restaurant was about. Unfortunately we came fir breakfast so didn't really get to try their Nola style food. I order a Bloody Mary cause most of the peeps in our group did. It came with some usual garnish (olives,onion, and a banana pepper-- no celery) which included a crispy bacon. I order my BM spicy and was disappointed it was not. The bacon in it made it though. Order the 1/2 country fried steak and gravy which game with 3 eggs and a side(country potatoes or hashbrowns) and toast. The dish was not the best country fried steak I've had but what I was really disappointed in was what they served as "country potatoes." It was more thinly slices of potatoes that were heavy skins and season. Needless to say I won't order those country potatoes again. My kid order their Belgium Waffle and it was to her standard. Hubby wanted to try their steak ham but apparently they were out already at 9:30am?? So he got a burrito with country potatoes. He also didn't like the potatoes as he ate just the burrito and left the potatoes on the dish. Maybe next time when we visit California again, we could try their lunch and my rating may change. Also put a little Red Rooster Hot Sauce on it, good addition Side of Clem's Mac'n Cheese (with Andouille Sausage and green bell pepper): The sausage was good, but the raw green pepper was not for me, but the real issues was the cheese. This was the worst chicken and waffles I've ever had! The chicken was cold as was the waffle and they had no people in the joint and they couldn't get the order correct! I ordered a thigh and breast, they sent two thighs both cold! I can't recommend this place anymore and I highly doubt I'll be back! Great spot to fill up on good old comfort food. Loved it so much we had dinner and came back for lunch the very next day. The favorites we got both times were the gumbo and fried catfish basket. Gumbo was so so tasty, really filling, and had that New Orleans spice I was craving. It was full of andouille sausage, little shrimp, and dirty rice. Definitely try a cup of it when you stop by. The waiter told us the catfish was discounted that night and also came with a side. At first it made me second guess getting the catfish since they were pushing it hard, but I'm glad we got it. It's SO GOOD!! The fish is moist and flaky with a well seasoned, crunchy breading. Do yourself a favor and go with the catfish. The choices of sides are awesome. For my side, I went with Clem's mac. It's super creamy with a little spice. Also tried the hush puppies. They came out pipping hot. Really well seasoned and crispy on the outside. The interior is super casual. There's a dining area as well as a bar all decorated with Mardi Gras beads and streamers. The dining area has lots of booths so there was never a wait. Bar area has TV playing, good for a drinks and some snacks. Service is great too! Our waiter both visits were attentive and gave some good suggestions.
