After reading the reviews, decided to stop in for an after dinner snack. This place is easy to find and right off of commonwealth. Tiny shop and even though we went in at around 7pm, there were already 4 people in line and everything the line went down, more people mysteriously came in. The line went super fast, as everyone knew what they wanted to get. Upon first entering, the delicious smells surrounds and and the setup is lovely where you can see the bakers in the bake making treats of goodness. It is a very quaint shop that looks very authentic. The yummies are piled on a shelf right behind the register and its hard to decide what to get with so much there. The selection is heavily weighed more towards breads than sweets, so if you are looking for a wide variety of cakes and pies, dont come here. We opted for a simple trail cookie which has everything in it. At first the price of $2.50 seemed a bit high, but once we had the cookie in hand, it made more sense. It was about an inch think and 6 inches in diameter. Huge cookie of great quality as well. The outside was crunchy and the inside was soft and chewy. Perfect for sharing! I was amazed by how the chocolate was still melty and warm on the inside even though we were hitting up the bakery at night. The quality of ingredients is great, as a big chocolate fan, it wasn't too sweet like with so many cookies. The only turn off would be the slightly higher price on everything. Concerning where I'm from, $7 for a baguette and $5.50 for a apple tart is a bit pricy, but its definitely worth a visit as its a treat for the mouth, nose, and eyes! read more

Clear Yuppy. Absolutely rediculous. Not only expensive but a haven for East Coast granola yuppy liberals that believe in the wholesome (read: elitist) goodness of artisinal goods consumerism. What a crock of clear s&^%! It's like a satelite store for Whole Foods (which actually sells Clear Flour breads in its stores...the irony). I've tasted a variety of stuff from this place and it's mostly mediocre. Nothing compared to the great bread shops in NY, Philly or San Fran. I spent $1.75 for one macaroon! "Is it a miracle macaroon," I thought? "Will my hair grow back once I eat it? Will all the ladies see that I'm really sexy deep down inside once I eat it???" I ate it . Nothing happened. The worst part is while you're waiting in line to purchase an overpriced loaf, you have to listen to all of the superficial, effete Brookline losers pretending to be friendly with one another, when really they're just stroking eachother's sense of high taste for elite bread and culture. I am a fan of good food!So its obvious that i am a fan of Clear Flour Bread!coz good food= clear flour bread! The lovely smell of fresh bread was what hit drew me to the store! i had no plans of going there but the smell just hypnotized me!Once i entered inside, i was amazed! the breads were in different shapes!wow!I had a cinnamon raisin bread! it was so good and "cinamony" and so fresh!Then i had chocolate chip cookies!yummmy!!!!!!!!!! almost as good as my others cookies!I wrapped it up with some apple crumb cake!delicious!! they have several different varieties of fruit tarts and yummy sticky buns and baguettes and all kinds of bread! wat a treat for a food lover like me! But one thing i gotta say. Clear Flour is right around the corner from me and I have missed it so much during quarantine! They have THE best pastries around; the gruyere croissants are the PERFECT weekend brunch treat. The chocolate-y, oozy bouchons are my go-to for when I need a chocolate fix. Their baguettes and sourdough loaves are incredible, and I love that they have so many half-loaf and roll options if I don't want to commit to a huge chunk of bread. The staff are the friendliest people, and no matter what time I go, I'm greeted with a smile and recommendation for the day. I wear my Clear Flour pretzel pin on my work lanyard, I love this place so much! I can't say enough good things about it- I have seriously NOT moved apartments because it's so hard to live without it! Clear Flour feels like stepping into a lost, bucolic era. Tucked away on a quiet street corner - often with a line of eager shoppers wrapped around the block - the team churns out some of the fluffiest, most delicious baked goods in the entire northeast. Seriously, we stock up on bread from Clear Flour like three times a week. It reminds me of a European bakery - in terms of quality, scale, and vibes. It's pretty remarkable that this spot is just steps away from the heart of Allston. The only downside is that they're often sold out by the end of the day. It's one of the best bakeries in Boston, if not the best! I usually come here on the weekends. The line starts way before they open their doors. Therefore make sure to arrive earlier than their opening hours, otherwise you may miss on many delicious pastries. On the weekends I must always take soufflés as they are simply the best. They are mostly made of eggs (not flour) and vegetable stuffing. So good!!! And of course the rest of the baked goods are delicious and extremely fresh! Clear Flour is amazing. They are always making new kinds of pastries and breads so there's always something new to try, and they are amazing right along with their staples. Along with breads, they also offer things often overlooked like burger buns and dinner rolls. They offer a huge variety and I have never been disappointed by anything I've tried there. Most things I've tried have become the best I've ever had! Everything is incredibly fresh as well. This place is a rip off, it's totally overpriced. The cheese croissant is always always sold out by 12 am. A tiny croissant that is barely 1.5 inch costs $3.5. You wonder why they wouldn't make more of it and sell it for a little bit less ? It's because apparently their strategy is work less, produce only few quantities and jack up the prices. At least if you charge this much increase the portion. Your bread/croissants are good but compared to the price no it's not worth it. This is Allston for god's sake. read more

I think this place is one of Boston's best secrets. It is truly hidden- barely in Brookline about a 5 minute walk from Packard's Corner on Comm Ave. This place is a hole in the wall bread making machine. They make crazy shaped rolls and the bread is divine (though not all are organic). The best things I've had here are the raisin-walnut roll and the olive roll. Don't ask, just find and try. We ate at the upstairs restaurant on a busy Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant was packed but found 2 seats at the bar and enjoyed good service and good food. Bartender was friendly and engaging. I do recommend this place, so please don't take the "average" rating the wrong way. It's a casual dining spot, which it does well. It's in a great location and has a great view, but it's not a 5-star restaurant as many others have rated it. Go in with the right expectations, and you'll enjoy it. read more

Amazing bakery. My husband and I have been long-time customers and we were a bit nervous about the new ownership, but I have to say everything is still excellent. Friendly staff, wonderful bread, desserts to die for. Whenever I need to impress an in-law or a relative I take them to Clear Flour! This is my go to pastry shop. When I go to friends for dinner I always stop here to get my breads and pastries. Everything is fresh you can smell it when you walk in the food. The breads are amazing you want to eat it all before you get home. The pastry's are also amazing they have a great selection. You can't go wrong read more

I used to love this place, but about half a year ago their baguette quality went down. I've spoken with the manager, and she blamed the weather. Since then I've tried buying their bread several times - not good at all. Their pastries are still very good, although I wish they had a new selection. read more

Clear Flour is agreat place to buy the best bread in town...i don't get here often but I love their baguettes, which come as the usual baguette and a few lovely twisted and braided versions too. They have great cookies and brioches...A little out of the way, as it is tucked into a neighborhood. read more
