I came here for an educator event and it was also my first time…read more I really loved the ambience of the bar. It felt cozy with a slightly gothic interior. Now, it is small inside, so when it gets busy, it gets real tight. Service was great, and I loved the food and drinks. I ordered a Lychee Girl drink, and got the soup dumplings which were a 10/10! I would 100% order the dumplings everyone. Overall, this was a hit!

If you're looking for something different in Memphis, put Swamp Bar on your list…read more It's an Asian + Creole fusion spot, and I'm always down to try something I haven't had before. I ordered the Yakamein, which is a New Orleans staple, and y'all... that broth alone was GOOD! I could've honestly just sat there with the broth. The flavor was definitely there. They also have a pretty good happy hour Wednesday-Sunday from 5-8 PM with house wine, well drinks, margaritas and beers, so that's something to keep in mind if you're trying to grab a drink and some food without spending too much. Wednesdays they have a DJ, too. You can check their lineup to see who's playing, just know there is a cover charge. Parking tip: I would park in the parking garage. It's usually around $3-$5 depending on the date and time, and honestly, that's better than driving around looking for parking. Also, Swamp Bar is 21+ and it's first come, first served, so keep that in mind before you go. Overall, I enjoyed the vibe and definitely think it's worth checking out if you like trying different food and you're tired of eating at the same spots in Memphis.

This is a fine dining steakhouse, and while upscale, it is not pretentious. I felt very welcomed--the hospitality here is stellar. Also, they let you take your time and linger over a meal, which I love. Our server, Gia, was absolutely amazing. If I ever return, I'm sitting in her section. She is an absolute delight. Gia was kind and knowledgeable and really made the evening. I loved the butcher cart and enjoyed being presented with a beautiful selection of knives to chose for dining. The bread and butter is delectable, as is the lobster bisque. I ordered a cup, which was big, but I recommend a bowl. It was velvety and rich, and you'll want more bread for dipping. I ordered a steak from candy-finished cattle, which was delicious. The sear was perfect and Gia recommended a wine that proved a worthy accompaniment. However, dessert was a showstopper. A strawberry-shortcake inspired baked Alaska is the most "me" dessert ever. I will never not order baked Alaska, and I am obsessed with everything strawberry. This dessert was not only gorgeous, but incredible. It might be my favorite dessert ever. This was truly one my more pleasurable meals and dining experiences. If visiting Memphis again, which is a goal, I would absolutely return.

I could drink that bone marrow au poivre sauce it was so good. Second, my service expectations when spending in excess of $2,000 for a party of seven ($700 of which was wine) are a touch above what I'd expect from a chain steakhouse and I certainly expect honesty that what I order is what I am served. In short, my first-world problem with Porch and Parlor is the vintages on their wine list do not reflect what they serve you. They were zero for two on both bottles I ordered and it matters when you pay $550 for a bottle of 2013 Dom Perignon (served 2017) and $133 for 2019 Heitz Cabernet Sauvignon (served 2022). I caught both instances in real time and the sommelier was crestfallen but powerless. Then I had to pour my own wine after it was decanted and left out of reach on a trolley alongside of our table - my server disappeared for the duration of the meal after food was served and never realized she missed out on the fun. I had to stand up a couple of times, grab a huge, elaborate decanter and awkwardly pour for my guests seated around a circular table (ambience is also very nice there BTW). Autogratuity added 20% tip and I added $100 on top of that because as the host I didn't want my guests to be aware of any issues and they had a great time - I covered for the restaurant's failures and paid a premium to do it. I let a week pass to see if I was still bothered by the experience and I was (am). My first solution was to call the restaurant to ask for the GM's email so I could email him/her, one-to-one, about my experience and keep it out of the public forum. That's what I would have wanted if the shoe were on the other foot. After my first call and a long, long hold I hung up. Waited forty minutes and tried again. After a two minute hold a gentleman named Chris came on the call and asked how he could help. I told him the above story, told him I don't want anything from him other than him to win and be successful which, in my view, includes not misrepresenting wine vintages because real dollars are involved when you say you have something worth $700 and what you sneakily try to serve customers is worth a lot less, service aside. Long story longer, he told me (paraphrasing) "yeah, I hate that for you but it's too much of a pain in the butt to print a fresh wine list so we are just going to keep doing that." Fine. Caveat Emptor for the rest of you who order wine there. Maybe just order the Caymus. For me, being rooked always negates any positive experience I may have had.

We have tried everything on the menu and NEVER had anything bad. I love the home town feeling of Half Shell. The ole guys sitting at the bar and the people just enjoying themselves. Really a great atmosphere!!!!!!!

How in the gash darn hell have I not written a review for The Half Shell Memphis?!?!?…read more I've been coming here since birth. Ok. Maybe not that long. Most definitely since I can remember. My parents had the blandest worst taste for food, so I was a depraved child as far as flavor was concerned. We ate at very blah places and my Mom was the pickiest person in the world, but.... She loved this fried shrimp! So we came here often. I grew up in Parkway Village so we were always nearby. Fast forward to my Yelp days. My first CM, Joelle had a part ownership of this place when I first started Yelping. We even had her going away party here when Yelp ruined the Memphis Elite Program with part time CM's for our city. She was part owner and we hung out there so it seemed inappropriate to write a review. Besides, I knew Danny pretty well too and that was also a conflict. Nowadays it's been bought by the folks that turned Forrest Hill Grill around. They have closed the location on Winchester (which I called years ago) and opened up in Germantown on Poplar. I have no idea who these people are so I guess it's time. I have not been to the new one, but I have seen the menu. I do not have any intentions of rushing to try it. Seems as if they butchered the whole dang menu. Anywho.... I still like this one. It's pretty run down, but the food is still good. It's still the original menu with all the treats. They have a freaking Monte Cristo sandwich folks! I know of less than five places left that still serve them. When is the last time you saw a twice baked potato? Here it is!! They still have a changing weekly, "daily special". They still have an intense regular bar business. Good luck getting a seat at the bar at any given time. Best of all they still have those damn tasty fried shrimp! Oh they are so good! The best ever man. The sauces they serve are great. I've been up and down the menu and it's almost always great. Oysters are some of the best charbroiled that there are anywhere in Shelby County. Long live OG Half Shell! Please never change! '25 - 44/111

I can not believe I have not reviewed Soul Fish as of yet. I am a huge fan…read more Let me preface this review by saying ... My grandfather owned two successful catfish restaurants. As a child I grew up on fried fish filets and hush puppies until my grandfather had to retire and sell his restaurant due to his Health. He still cooks up a mess of catfish for us about two or three times a year when we visit. Yum! My standards for good catfish are extremely high. Good fried catfish is not greasy, light cornmeal batter, tender flaky inside, and slightly crispy on the outside. Sounds simple enough but the truth of the matter is... Good fried catfish takes skill. After an epic searched for any decent catfish in Memphis and surrounding areas that took a few years ... My family and I decided to give up. And when I heard about Soul Fish it took some considerable convincing to get them to go. We where, none of us, disappointed! Soul Fish is without a doubt the best Catfish in Memphis. It is perfectly fried... Hushpuppies are tasty, coleslaw edible if not always yummy, fried pickles crisp and tart, pickle green tomatoes so yummy I could swim in them, and vegetables always cooked and seasons well (special recognition to the cabbage, broccoli, and black eyed peas). The service is always friendly, fast, efficient, and correct. The blackened catfish is pretty tasty too ... Sometimes they get a little heavy handed on the seasoning. Deserts are pretty great as well. My sister loves the Mississippi mud chocolate thingy they have (I'm not a chocolate fan). I've introduced many people (about 40 or so) to Soul Fish - locals and visitors alike - and no one ... And I mean not a single one of them where disappointed. So why four stars instead of five? True... the catfish is the best in Memphis - however it is not the best I've ever had. And Sometimes a filet or two at Soul Fish fall short of perfection... However ... I'm a regular and a fan of Soul Fish Cafe. If you have spent hours and disappointed meals trying to find good catfish in Memphis ... Look no further ... This is the place for you. I promise you will not Be disappointed!
