As appetizing as this picture of Lomo Saltado is, it cannot convey how tenderly all the savory flavors come together.
    Edmond C.

Claudy's Kitchen, Part 2 I managed to take home a few whole Pollo a la Brasa, with the Huancaina fettuccine with smoked pork rib pieces and shrimp Chaufa, plus some Lomo Saltado and Chicharron Empanadas, Coffee flan and the canchita popcorn. As much as I ordered, there is a whole lot more that appears on their menu after scanning the QR Codes on the tables. The Canchita is a nice crunchy snack on its own, but is kicked up a notch with the green sauce. If you like popcorn, try the canchita. The Lomo Saltado Empanadas are good and very good relative to empanadas I have had elsewhere, but the Chicharron Empanadas are where it's at here. The pork belly is not too fatty and the flavor and texture will keep these on steady rotation every time you come here. The Huancaina sauce over the fettuccine pasta with the small pieces of smoked pork rib meat will remind you of pancetta, but the Huancaina sauce is familiar with a cheesy and creamy texture that barely hints at the yellow peppers in the sauce. This is comfort food that accompanies the Pollo a la Brasa with the green sauce perfectly. They could have been more generous with the pork rib in this dish and the pieces are so small I had to taste them alone to know how they taste, otherwise becoming lost in the sauce. The Shmrip Chaufa, which, like the fettuccine, can be ordered with several proteins, hints at the East Asian influence on Peruvian cuisine, similar to the Lomo Saltado. It's a great fried rice, that elsewhere would go well with soy sauce. Here, the green sauce is on order. The salad that came with the family meal is crisp lettuce, tomato and cucumber with their bright vinaigrette dressing and it cuts across the rich and savory flavors you experience here. I reserved the last, but not least, for the Pollo a la Brasa. You will start eating this with a knife and fork, but end cleaning the bones with your hands in mouth. This is where you'll get down and don't care who is watching as you devour this chicken, where the flavor and texture of the crisp skin, gives way to tender and juicy chicken and ends with the flavor of the bones. The skin was crisp after coming out of my oven at home and would come out even better in a convection oven or air fryer. As good as the Lomo Saltado is, the Pollo a la Brasa is better in my opinion. The green sauce puts this chicken over the top and this chicken must be among the best roasted or rotisserie chicken you can find among the five boroughs. The coffee flan is very good. I am not one who can evaluate flan, given I don't eat it often. I don't have a sweet tooth typically. However, I appreciated the texture and contrast with the coffee. My total for all this came to $160 before tip, which is not bad for this amount of quality food and befitting of the Michelin Bib Gourmand rating. One well known chain of Peruvian restaurants in the City will charge you the same family meal price for one chicken and it will not be as good. It's midweek and I'm still eating and the other chicken is in the freezer for another time. 4.3 very returnworthy stars!

Found this place when I was researching the best local empanadas that wasn't empanada mama (still love, just needed more). Never realized how close this place was to me so I stopped by and glad I did!! Ps: they serve "happy juice" aka sangria. ;) [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience is no frills, casual and homey.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is warm and welcoming. 10/10

Still a staple in the neighborhood. Stopped by to get me some chicken and shrimp chaufa and I forget the name of the purple drink that they make, but it's one of the best homemade drinks I had in my life. Everything is still deliciously made to order and really good. I also ordered an Lomo Saltado empanada, I prefer the actual dish they you can also purchase here, but I decided to get a quicker version, also tasty. Im always happy to see a small business owner with great food, service and vibes, become a neighborhood gem. So if you haven't been please make a visit and enjoy some great food and service. Two Thumbs up for me. HAPPY YELPING!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Claudy's had a weird moldy scent that hits you upon entering[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] . [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is however very visibly clean and well kept , including the "out of order" restroom[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Service was prompt by who I suspect was the manager or owner and the food came out quickly. The rotisserie chicken was incredibly tender and juicy and the green sauce was also really well made and complimented the chicken and the veggie chaufa I ordered . A large side is easily 3 adult servings so the chaufa needless to say was not finished . Even though it was a veggie chaufa , the veggies were more scarce than I would've liked but the flavor was certainly top notch with it being light and pillowy and savory. I recommend anyone to order the roasted zucchini side as that was one of the standouts and it paired well with just about everything . I washed down everything with their traditional purple corn drink and that to me was unfortunately a tad too sweet and I couldn't finish it but it still tasted fine I can acknowledge . This was a solid Peruvian restaurant that I'm glad to have visited but for me , it's maybe slightly overrated .

I'm a big foody and love contributing to local family businesses that actually put love in their food. Being so close to home this place was an absolute treat. Their food here is simply for better words delicious. The Pescado Cevichi is to die for even the juice from it is so tasty very authentic. The Chupe de Pescado with Camerones was so flavorful I was just missing an avocado to add to my bowl. Only suggestion is can you please place the Cevichi on the Uber eats menu so unfair it's not lol. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance can be busy at times so if you're picking up order before hand.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Don't write an honest review. Owner will get defensive.
    Kristin F.

Edited rating based on DM from owner. Don't post anything less than 4 stars, otherwise you'll get a rude DM from owner. The message was unnecessary considering what I believe is a fair 3 star review. Note to restaurateurs: Don't DM people with passive aggressive comments. As an owner be prepared for feedback without having to get defensive. Message included below. Original Review: 3 stars. Ordered takeout, specifically the Lomo saltado and an empanada, and as much as I really wanted to love it, it was just okay. It's pretty expensive considering the portion size. Empanadas are tiny and for the lomo specifically, it was a ton of rice and fries and a handful of pieces of beef/vegetables. Flavor was good but I likely won't order again.

Special of the day- Aji De Gallina. Stick with what they're know for as this was subpar at best.
    Glenn C.

Side note: Minor edits based on reply and DM. Rating has also been pushed up as while I don't agree fully with one comment especially, I honestly do agree that my experience likely doesn't reflect the restaurant as a whole. You know when you go to a restaurant and you think you ordered the wrong dish as everyone had gotten their food already and you were still waiting? I had that experience here several months ago when I was here as everyone else with me got their food and liked it and my food was subpar. I've heard great things about this spot and from the specials board, they listed one of my favorite Peruvian dishes known as Aji de Gallina. Aji de gallina is basically a chicken stew made with aji amarillo (a type of yellow pepper,) as well as a bit of nuts and some spices. While the price wasn't listed, I know the prices otherwise are pretty reasonable here and sat down and waited for maybe a good 25 minutes compared to the rest of the folks with me who waited at most 10-15 minutes. The staff in front were fine and they were moderately crowded with a lot of people coming in to get takeout. After waiting that long, I finally got my meal which consisted of arroz blanco/white rice and said dish with a single olive as well as half a boiled egg which the latter is a usual accompaniment. I would have been fine with it if the flavor was good but it wasn't. It was too sweet, definitely not spicy enough, and just lacked depth in general. The chicken was fine and there was plenty of it but it's hard to go wrong with shredded chicken that's been cooked for that long. The extra kick in the dirt was the price tag. I presumed based on other dishes that it would have been $15 bucks at the most but the price tag was $19 or $20 which was surprising. The price tag should have been up there or I should have paid at the start as likely I wouldn't have ordered it and just stuck with some of their more famous empanadas or their roasted chicken/pollo a la brasa (someone gave me a piece while I was waiting and it was pretty tasty.) The price point combined with the flavor which was by far the worst version of this dish I've had and I've had this dish a large number of times leaves me with a bad experience but I think I just ordered the wrong dish. I presume I would have liked the empanadas and definitely liked the roasted chicken but I guess skip the aji de gallina (as long as it's not stuffed within an empanada which is a fun/novel touch.) 2 for the chicken I tried primarily as my main dish wasn't that good.

Seeing as I came to Claudy's Kitchen for a quick bite, I'll keep this review short, sweet, and to the point. I had ordered 3 empanadas: the Aji, Lomo Saltado, and Chicharron. I also got a chicha morada (purple corn) drink. My colleague had ordered the Rotisserie chicken and the fried rice. The empanadas were fried perfectly, but I thought that the taste was just okay. Nothing spectacular but not bad at all. My colleague shared her fried rice and chicken with me, which was absolutely AMAZING! The chicken was super moist and had so much flavor, and the rice was flavorful as well. The green sauce they gave us on the side was delicious and only elevated all the food items. The chicha morada was delicious and refreshing. It reminded me of Jamaica but not as sweet. It paired perfectly with the food. Customer service was excellent. The staff behind the counter was very friendly and helped us to choose what items to order. Preparation of the food was pretty quick too, especially considering that everything is made to order. The interior of the restaurant was also very clean and well kept, and the menu was easy enough to read Overall, I think this place is a great spot for a quick bite. I didn't give it 5 stars because I was a little underwhelmed with the empanadas, but everything else was wonderful. I'm definitely going to return to try their other offerings

I also noticed another similar place like this one on Yelp, and since they both had good reviews, I decided to try them both. This shop is very small. It had no place to sit down. You kind of order what you like from there case of already made empanadas and other lil small bites. They also have a lot of information about smoothies and options to buy. When I got there, their were two customers literally standing in front of the small counter, eating their empanadas, and just receiving their smoothies. While I waited, I took some pictures and kept waiting for someone to address me or ask me for my order. I finally excused myself to the other customers, blocking the counter and standing in front of the window case of food, and asked the guy for a cheeseburger empanada. I found the empanada to be warm and not hot enough, but it was still very tasty, and therefore, I rate three stars. Only for the taste of the empanada because although the guy who gave me my empanada was pleasant, the customer service I felt needed some work. I think if I never asked for my empanada, I may would have kept standing there waiting. After having the empanadas at the other establishment, I'm gonna have to pass on this one. I still will give a thumbs up because the empanada itself deserved it. Happy Yelping!
