This is the type of place you wish you had in your neighborhood and the type of place well worth the travel if it's not close to where you live. They're famous for their empanadas and their flan (and rightfully so!), but there's so much more. Their roasted chicken is amazing- flavorful and perfectly spiced throughout. And their huancaina pasta is perfection (the owner tells me it's made even better when you ask for a topping of smoked rib meat. Next time. Definitely!). One of the true signs this food is made with care beyond all the good flavors (their sauces! their chicks morada!) and the Michelin Bib Gourmand rating (!!), is the real attention to all the details. The perfect example is if you order a family meal it comes with sides and a salad...at other establishments that pride themselves on a great roast chicken, the sides - especially the salad- is an afterthought. The food here is good but the wait is looong. I waited a solid 25 minutes (maybe longer) for a take-out order. If they would have informed me of the wait, I may have taken a walk to Lloyd's. The pollo alla brasa was like fried chicken as someone had mentioned but it had good taste. The lomo saltado was very good. It was on a separate daily special menu and not on the main menu which was slightly confusing. I had to ask for it by name after I saw a good review for it and the man behind the counter pointed out the second menu to the side. I also tried their regular flan but it was very sweet. I asked for a vegetable side but, unfortunately, found out later that they had left it out. I didn't get a receipt and am not sure if I was charged for it. I would like to start by saying, just because I'm Peruvian doesn't mean I'm being bias. With that being said, do not sleep on this place. It might be small and new. But the food will kick your flavor teeth in. I mean that in THE most positive way. This place is the bomb. From the people who work there to the food that's made, it's been an amazing experience every time I've ordered from here. I'll start with what to me is the traditional dish of Perú. Sort of like the fast food option of Peruvian cuisine. The CHICKEN. Don't get me wrong this is super delicious and so affordable. The amount of spices and time that's put into these beautiful pollos is awesome. Get the chicken solo or get it in a combo. Either way you'll be happily impressed, fall off the bone tenderness and melt in your mouth deliciousness. I've had my share of the empanadas but not all of them. But of the ones I HAVE had. They do not disappoint. Good size and just the right amount of filling. But again it's the flavor that gets ya. And it has lots of it. For the main dishes I've only had a chance to try the Lomo Saltado. A great stir fry dish that also tastes so so good, meat so soft and tender. The vegetables you mix with the rice and let the juices just cover all of it to just add another layer of flavor and goodness. Some of the side dishes/apps I do not want to leave out: Salchipapas- a nice lil something to munch on or a kids meals. I mean what kid doesn't like fries and hotdogs. Usually you dunk it in a mixture of ketchup and mayo but hey!! You do it your way right? Papa A La Huancaina- Another Peruvian dish that is crazy dope. A beautifully creamy yellow cheese sauce drizzle, no, drenched on top of sliced potatoes. And now for the piece that I will implore you to do right now. GET THAT GREEN SAUCE. Yo this green sauce is the BEES-KNEES!! Now usually it's to be used with the pollo a la brasa. BUT I'm telling you. That sauce goes on ANYTHING!! I decided to buy their small batch of green sauce. And I'm telling you. Bacon egg and cheese. Put it on!! Hamburger PUT it on! Pizza? PUT IT ON!!! I am not lying when I say the balance of heat and taste is undeniable. It's not too hot that it takes over your taste buds but just enough to give additional flavor to any food you put it on. Whew that's all I have to say. But one last thing. All this is possible. Why? Cause these people care about the food they provide. Which is why I say in the beginning the people who work there are just as good as the food they make. Family owned and run. Situated snuggly in a string of establishments, I decided to go in for a bite. This was takeout so I won't comment on texture as it just isn't fair. Here we go: The Good: the chicken was delish. Fell off the bone, well seasoned. Tastes like Peruvian chicken, I'd eat it again and again... Chaufa was OK, ingredients fresh. So were the yucca fries. Why 3 stars ... the ugly ... it's a Peruvian spot ... say it ain't so ... the ceviche was ... meh. So it one of my fave dishes: CEVICHE! Basically the citrus "cooks" the fish. Whether it is spicy or not, it should have a bit of the light, citrus explosion that doesn't curl your tongue but lets you know it's a citrus thang. This was absent from the flavor here. The salt, lime and spice profile should make my tongue dance only to be tethered by the crunch of the corn. No dancing here. With that said, ALL the ingredients were fresh and well presented. Nice clean restaurant and the empanadas were good, I personally like the chicken/beef the spinach wasn't my favorite but worth the do. I had a juice (I forgot the name) it was tasty ; the staff were nice based on my personal experience with them, I had a question about the juice that I was drinking and I decided to asked the business owner what was in it and he explained to me it is a combination of different herbs very well blend and I saw Claudy in the kitchen working on the kitchen frying the empanadas etc. I met Shanta for the first time she's amazing! Decent place...the chicken combo is great with salchi papas! My order of lomo was very under par. Lack of seasoning and the portion was small for the price. My small flan, while tasty was very underwhelming in size for the price. The cookies with dulce de leche was great but was expensive. Overall, decent place if you order the right things. I want to see what a large fan is as it is very good. You can't go wrong with the chicken combo. For the lomo, taste and price point should point you else where. My husband and I used to buy Claudy's flan when we lived in Brooklyn and were so excited to find that they had a brick and mortar not far away from where we live in westchester. We went in for lunch with our 2 year old and everything was amazing. We had a half chicken, chaufa, yucca fries and ground beef and chicken empanadas.
