We ordered the appetizer wings (approx 7 wingettes) They were deliciously crunchy with a delicious mango sauce. My daughter ordered the skirt steak. It was bland. I ordered the red snapper $42, very bland. I paid to try the mango sauce and chilli sauce neither helped. The rice and tostones were good. The Alchemist drink was a nice experience and flavorful. Overall the appetizers and drinks were great everything else not so good.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. From the moment we walked in, the experience was…read moredisappointing. There was no host or hostess present to greet us or manage seating. We stood there confused, eventually trying to find a table ourselves. Since no one was assisting us and there were no open tables available, we sat at the bar. My friend continued waiting and trying to secure a table, but there was no communication from staff. To make matters worse, another group arrived after us and was seated before us. They mentioned they had been there before, and it felt like they were given priority while we were overlooked, despite waiting longer. Service at the bar was equally frustrating. The bartender was inattentive and focused only on certain sections. It took about 10 to 15 minutes just to get a simple glass of wine. We had to repeat our orders multiple times, which should have been a red flag. The appetizer, Korean wings, arrived quickly and was probably the only positive part of the evening. After that, everything went downhill. Our entrees took an extremely long time to arrive. It felt like nearly two hours. When the food finally came out, one of my friends did not receive her meal at all because the bartender forgot to put in her order. This was especially frustrating since we had repeated the order several times. When her dish, the pad Thai, finally arrived about 30 minutes later, it was mediocre at best and slightly cold. The steaks ordered by two of us were dry and under-seasoned. The vegetables were overcooked and bland. Overall, the food quality did not justify the long wait or the price. The bathrooms were another major issue. There was toilet paper on the floor and even period blood visible on the ground. It was unsanitary and honestly shocking. Cleanliness is the bare minimum for any establishment. The final bill came to $245, including an automatic $34 gratuity at the bar. Considering the service we received, this felt completely undeserved. There was no acknowledgment of the forgotten order and no attempt to make things right. As a final note, be cautious if you're wearing delicate or expensive clothing. The bar counter area has rough edges, and one of my friend's jerseys was snagged while we were sitting there. This was my first time here, and it will absolutely be my last. Between the poor service, mediocre food, lack of cleanliness, and high prices, I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

The arroz con gandules was a solid, well-seasoned base for the meal and came in a generous portion. We also grabbed a couple of pastelillos. The pastelillos con carne and the pastelillo con queso both had a great crunch and were packed with filling. The alcapurria was fried well with a solid exterior, and the inside was full of seasoned meat. To finish it off, we had the bacalaitos, which were huge, savory codfish fritters with crispy edges. It gets hot inside and you will have to wait, but the efficient service and excellent food make it a strong 4 star spot.

The flavors: very light, authentic, black beans nicely cooked with a hint of chicken flavor, rice- fluffy without being drenched in MSG, and the chicken was moist with skin. Its the kinda food that you eat once and are full for hours; that kinda food. They also sell other dishes that sound like chicken, steak, egg/tomato, and smaller fried foods empanadas, something that looked like an egg roll and they had some deals listed outside. Several signs are handwritten in Spanish, I think for the specials of the day for around $12 to 18. (No sign was in English except the chicken and rice special...haha). There's 6 old school diner stools for the public so theres no idling and is tight quarters. There is no air conditioning so it was quite warm on an already warm day. You get to watch old slice of nyc with a bustling food joint serve fried comfort food including something that looks like egg rolls, rotisserie chicken, fried chicken, fried empanada. I've never seen the staff work so hard to serve food to the public, incoming pickup delivery guys, and seated staff. The lady serving us was kind and the portions really generous; we was able to take half to go and i swear she was working at breakneck speed to serve everyone. You see the neighborhood folks streaming in from the outside ordering stuff to go; and you know that means this place is authentic. They got drinks in a rotating machine with different flavors with fruit juices. I like how on one hot day they serve ice with our drinks. Otherwise, do go with an open mind for adventure and curiosity for local favor. Don't expect a perfect service as it was a steal in this economy and bring your patience, as it took me awhile to get the staffs attention to pay the bill.
