This is supposed to be mofongo but it's more like mangu and a soup with all them unnecessary stuff they add in it. I always get mofongo in every restaurant I go bc it's my to go dish, but I'm so disappointed. It's not even that it taste bad it's literally everything, look at this mess. Also terrible customer service, we got served without utensils like we are supposed to eat it wit our hands?

Although we had tried take out in the past, this was the first time our family of four (including a 1.5 year old and 2.5 year old) dined at Ajo & Oregano. To say that we were pleasantly surprised would be an UNDERSTATEMENT! Since we live in the neighborhood, we decided to pop in on a Sunday (day before Labor Day) afternoon. Although the place was absolutely buzzing, we were seated immediately and accommodated with a place to put our double stroller + offered a high chair. (Anyone with young children knows that this goes a long way for a restaurant to ensure that you feel welcomed and not like a burden for "having the audacity" dine with your little ones.) The ambiance was colorful, vibrant, and definitely had a welcoming feel, as if you were transported to the island and eating at a local restaurant. Loved that, and also the beautiful mural on the wall! Now, on to the FOOD! We were super hungry so we definitely ate with our eyes and ordered a number of menu items. The best part is we were NOT disappointed by a single thing. Our meal included calamari ($15), mofonguitos de pollo ($14) for our appetizers, and Churrasco in chimi sauce ($33) and Fried Seabass Filet in Homemade Coconut Sauce ($17) for entrees. The portions were seriously MASSIVE! Needless to say we had leftovers that somehow tasted even better the next day! We ordered the chicken tenders for our 2yo which included a side of white rice and red beans and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't typical (frozen) chicken tenders that you'd expect. They had actually made them fresh, and it was toddler approved! All in all, we had a wonderful experience and you should visit too to experience the same. We can't wait to return for more drinks, comida, and vibes!

Delicious food, timely service and great ambiance. Each bite was served with love. Drinks were cold, food was served warm and with a smile. It felt like home! First time, not last time.

This isn't my abuela's cocina; this is a vibrant, modern take on Hispanic cuisine that pushes boundaries while honoring tradition. The atmosphere is electric. The decor is a stunning blend of modern and rustic, it gives a vibe of a hole in the wall where you wanna take your first at. The music is a curated mix of Latin rhythms. Good service.

I ordered take out because I didn't feel like waiting to be seated. Although the wait was long, I was in the comfort of my home. I was so happy they delivered to my home because I love Ajo & Oregano. This is my 3rd time eating their food. I ordered the Mofonguitos de Platano - super delicious, wish I ordered the bigger portion, but I will next time. Chicharron de Pollo sin Hueso - not dry and full of flavor Bistec Encebollado - delicious Guandules - delicious Habichuelas Rojas - delicious Arroz blanco - tasted like your typical Hispanic white rice Jugo Tamarindo - too sweet for me, but my fiancé enjoyed it Flan - we should've ordered more!!

While vacationing in New York I met up with family for dinner and got to try some pretty amazing Dominican food. The location looks small from the outside but when you walk in there are technically 2 sides for dining as well as some seating in the front covered area. There is pretty artwork on the walls and decor that represents the Dominican Republic all over. The food is made fresh to order so depending on what you get you may wait a little bit for it to come out, which we were totally okay with. I have no problem waiting for food if that means you get an amazing dish you can tell was made with love. Everything was so delicious and very flavorful. My daughter had the fried salami & tostones dish which was a big hit for her. While I had the Mar Y Tierra which was grilled steak & sauteed shrimp. The rice & beans came in little calderos that were so cute. I have never seen them so small, but it added a nice touch to the presentation. I look forward to trying more options next time I am in town.

This was some good Dominican food. The chicharrón de pollo sin hueso was good & the churrasco was good too. The rice wasn't all that to me. It was sort of dry. It's super cute in there, gives me vibes of being in the Dominican Republic. The waitress was nice & attentive. I would go back

I was soooo disappointed with the food. The dishes tasted very "commercial," as if they're trying to appeal to everyone instead of sticking to Dominican/Caribbean flavors. Not at all what I was expecting. My party and I each asked for different items to spruce up our meals: a little lime here, some black pepper and steak sauce over there. It made the dishes palatable, but none of us cleaned our plates. The wilted lettuce and bruised avocado salad didn't do much to make me a believer in this place. It was ridiculously hot, but our server kept telling us the A/C was on. This made us eat quickly and leave. The decor is vibrant-beautiful actually-but it's not enough to make a return customer out of me.

Food is great, drinks are great. Customer service SUCKS! They don't acknowledge you at all, especially if you don't speak Spanish.

The crispy octopus easily rivals anything I've had in Manhattan, super tender with just the right crisp. The cassava hash browns were so good I was almost annoyed by how simple they were. Paired with a rich, meaty sauce and a fresh fennel crunch, the whole dish was incredibly balanced. The wings were the most straightforward item on the menu (in the best way), lightly spiced, slightly sweet, and great for picky eaters. Someone needs to give the bartenders a raise. I ordered three drinks just to test consistency--every single one was balanced, spirit-forward, and not overly sweet. The presentation was different on each one and felt intentional without being gimmicky. I've seen some of the lower Yelp ratings and they mostly call out price, but this is very much a you get what you pay for situation. The quality of the food, the portion sizes (especially for this level of execution), and the overall intentionality behind the menu justify it in my opinion. Service was excellent. They squeezed me in last minute, and my waiter, Dionicio, handled my coconut allergy (not easy at a Dominican spot) with real care and ease. The space itself is worth mentioning - moody, mushroom/mossy interiors. Super cute, very well thought out, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to.
