The workers at this restaurant located at 1470 Jerome are very very very racist toward black people and there service show that over and over. If you don't speak Spanish they will have you standing there, if they are helping you they stop to service the customer that speaks Spanish and the guy that wears the red shirt I believe he is the manager witness this on one occasion. I believe he said something to her I don't know because he spoke in Spanish but she just laughed. This happened to more of us Black people which isn't fair if we are spending our money as well. I always call for delivery from this location, it's always so busy in the store and not in enough room to order. Most of the times the food is good but it is pricey, they up the prices every year. Looks like they don't have a certain recipe or measuring cups because one day the beans/ habichuela is salty or the rice or the meat. This restaurant has horrible customer service and I'm very disappointed with my experience today. I ordered the lunch special with boneless chicken and normally I get a lot but this time I got such a small amount. I've been buying from them for $12 flat and they they decided today to charge me $12 plus tax when they've never done that before. I'm white and my partner is Spanish so he was talking to them and they were being very rude and ignoring us. He wanted another $12 lunch but instead of giving us that, they assumed without asking us that we wanted a small amount of food for his daughter which WASN'T fair. They didn't even communicate with us that they would give us a small amount and still charge $12. My partner was talking to the manager and they were all laughing and looking at us making fun of us for being upset and annoyed. I ordered Sandwich Cubano. It is well known that these sandwiches have pickles and mustard on them, but no there were no pickles at all and hardly any cheese. I ordered food through Uber eats at 11:27pm, my order was suppose to get to me at 12:15am. I get a call around 11:57 from the DELIVERY DRIVER (not even someone from the restaurant), explaining that the restaurant told her to tell me that they are out of chicken. This is the dominican restaurant of my childhood here in New York. Now I live in Dominican Republic but I love going here to lunch,dinner or anything else whenever there's time. I arrived yesterday and first thing I had here in NYC was a cuban sandwich with a "morirsoñando" or "Die Dreaming" if we translate word by word. This is an orange juice with milk that tastes wonderful. Due to citrus outage in DR I haven't tasted a good one in ages, and La Estrella delivered. If you are nearby, and are into latin or dominican cuisine, I highly recommend. For lunch today I am having some fried chicken loins, which they have THE best. read more

For a Dominican restaurant, this is a great spot. I've been ordering take out for a while from here and it's always good. They have your number and address linked and saved in their computers so you never have to repeat it. I just finished eating inside for the first time and as always the food was excellent. For all the faults in customer service, this restaurant's single saving grace is the oven roasted chicken... made even more delicious by adding the garlic lemon sauce on it. The food is excellent, their chicken is tasty, juicy and tender. I go there for their Roast chicken. I also recommend their fried chicken chunks and their Mofongo is cheap and delicious. Stopped here on the way back from Bronx Leb Hospital. Food was outstanding and made fresh to order. Maduros (sweet plaintains) still sizzling from the pan. Stewed chicken had a deep rich flavor like someone's grandmother made it. Steak with onions was tender and well seasoned. Portions for full entree were enormous. Easily enough for two. Caution however that the place looks horrible and tacky from the outside but is actually a reasonably attractive and comfortable casual restaurant on the inside. read more
