Food was excellent, ceviche mixo was delicious. It was very fresh and server Marvin was extremely attentive and friendly.

I was in the Bronx and Pio Pio came highly recommended to me by a local for amazing Peruvian eats. They have a few locations in the New York City area. I was lucky enough to stop by their Bronx locale. The service was impeccable--seriously, so lovely. Myself and my dining companion were seated right away and ordered glasses of Malbec (to me the perfect pairing for Latin American cuisine in general and Peruvian cuisine, specifically). The wine was pitch perfect. To start things, I ordered their avocado salad. It's definitely meant to share as a starter or as a full entree (super ample). They don't skimp on the avocado with a full layer of sliced avocado on top. Everything was crisp and beautifully fresh. For my main, I got the arroz chaufa, which was a decadently buttery Peruvian style fried rice mixed with chicken, eggs, bean sprouts, scallions, and soy sauce. Honestly, some of the best Peruvian fried rice I've had the pleasure of consuming. It was spot on perfect. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and squeaky clean. I mentioned the service but seriously--the folks in here are fabulous. My dining companion and I got caught up chatting and were in here close to closing time. They were so accommodating and never rushed us. In fact, I was waiting for my ride a minute or two after closing and went to wait outside so as not to hold them up and they insisted that I stay inside while waiting. Lovely experience all around. Get to it!

I've been a longtime admirer of Pio Pio and started coming here frequently since they established their Bronx branch. I think this place's food is really underappreciated. They are well-known for their Rotisserie chicken, which they make using Mama Juanita's recipe. I have never tasted better Rotisserie chicken! The skin is always very flavorful and the chicken is incredibly soft. When I visit with friends, we order the Matador combo, which is family style and includes 1 whole Mama Juanita's rotisserie chicken, yellow rice, red beans, tostones, salchipapa (these are SO good), and avocado salad. This is a great combo because you get to try a little bit of everything and it's usually enough for a group of three to four. For smaller gatherings or solitary meals, you can alternatively order a half or quarter chicken. I enjoy getting the Ceviche Mixto, which includes fresh corvina, shrimp, octopus, calamari, and scallops, as additional dishes for the table (I prefer it quite hot). A Classic Ceviche with chopped corvina, lime juice, red onions, cilantro, and rocoto pepper is available if you'd prefer something simpler. They have a range of beers, and I especially love their sangria, which is always perfectly balanced in terms of flavor and generously poured. For dessert, they have several interesting selections like flan and tres leches cake, but my favorite is the sharing Tartufo vanilla and chocolate gelato. Deal Alert: During the week, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., they have a lunch menu that costs $14.50 if you're searching for a good price! This includes one side dish, a 1/4 rotisserie chicken, a salad, and beverage! The restaurant is a decent size, has a laid-back vibe, pleasant staff, rapid service, and accepts both cash and credit cards. The restaurant is close to the subway, and if you choose to drive, parking is available but you'll have to circle the block. I give this place a 10 out of 10 overall!

I first ate Pio Pio a few years ago at the 34th st location and remembered i liked it back then especially the salchica and fries. Went to the bronx location and the first thing that was.. unique was the security guard greeted us snd told us what table to sit at. He then gave us the menus and went back to guarding the door. Lol I liked the atmosphere inside. We ordered calmari for appetizer and these were HUGE! They were really big pieces. I was not used to onion ring sized calamari so I didn't eat much of it. It was more of a texture thing for me, the huge size of it was too rubbery and thick. It comes with a marinara sauce but this was left untouched as we went for the green sauce thats on every table instead. For a table of 3, we decided to get the matador combo. I didnt realize tostones came with this and was delighted to dip these in the garlic butter provided. The french fries were overcooked yet soggy from all of the oil. The nathans hot dogs were tasty as expected The rice and beans were great but these were portioned for one person! You cant share the rice and beans. I was the only one who ate the salad lol it doesnt come mixed up so you'll see one layer of tomato slices on top of each other, the avocado on the other side on top of each other, etc And lastly, the chicken was juicy and nicely flavored. However my boyfriend was not a fan at all. He kept saying the chicken smelled and tasted gamey. He also decided to order the Chicha morada drink. It had some cinnamon taste in it.

Service was terrible I came and was seated and bought a menu and then ignored for 20 minutes and a couple comes in after me and they get they ordered put in and had their food and drinks there ready for them. I literally had to get up to ask who was my server was and he said oh he Didn't see me. I honestly felt because I'm black women I was mistreated and ignored. Really a bad experience and my money is just as good as the other Hispanics customers in the restaurant.

My favorite chicken spot in Queens now in the BRONX! Chicken Chicken Chicken... did I say Chicken lol Their green sauce is the tip of the ice berg along side the chicken. All sides are amazing with whatever your choice is... Maduros/Tostones or my favorite is Yuca frita!

Old avocado. Very small portion for 7.00
    Brenda L.

Ordered rice n beans fried plantains and avocado. Well the meal was not what I expected. The rice was a little bit old and hard. (The bottom of the pot portion of rice). Way more rice was given than beans. The fried plantains was also old and fried very dark and very greasy. Last but not least...the 7.00 small portion of avocado was not fresh or fit to eat at all. I wouldn't even give it to my dog if I had one. Like...what do people that work in the kitchen think? Do they think they can just give u something they wouldn't eat themselves? I will never order from this place again. I took a "eat at ur own risk" with the plantain and rice n beans bcos of hunger knowing it wasn't appetizing and bcos I'm at work with limited choices. I'm vegan and never thought the simple meal I ordered would be a fail. I'll never do that again.

Fabulous !!!! Extremely good!!! I was talking with one of my co-workers when she told me about this place. It was Thursday at 2 pm when I decided to go. The place was spectacular ! They let us choose the table and the server came very fast. The Sangria Pitcher was our first order while we were looking at the menu. The menu is very short but on point! Drinks ! 1- Sangria Pitcher ! 10 of 10!!! The flavor is great! Fruity, sweet and strong !!! Food! 1- Arroz Chaufa - 5 of 5 ! Peruvian style Chinese fried rice, mixed with chicken, eggs, bean sprouts, scallions, soy sauce. You can shrimp for 2 dollars! Excellent plate 2- Juanita's Chicken - 5 of 5 !!!! Exquisite flavor !!!! 3- Fried Yucca - 5 of 5 !! Always a great side ! Aji Verde !!! Avocado sauce is magnificent!!!! I am in love with this sauce !!! The place is extremely clean , the service is great and the ambience is great!!! Highly Recommended !!!

Chicken breasts, yuca fries on bottom left, tostones on top right, both come with a side salad
    Darlene M.

I have dined at Pio Pio before (this location and another in queens). The ambiance is always really nice and the music is great (not too loud). I always enjoy their food, chicken is tasty and the sides are always great too. Their signature Peruvian green sauce is so scrumptious and I put it on everything! They also have a perfectly balanced mojo de ajo. Be sure to have water handy though, because the yuca fries and tostones are dry going down the hatch.

Very great Resturant , great quality of food And very professional A little forgetful at times, but always makes up for it's forgetfulness

Beans and rice, salad, maduros ONLY

HOW did y'all forget my WHOLE ORDER. I order the Matadore combo and this all that came. Missing the chicken and salchipapa. I called and they say " we put it in the bag there's nothing we can do" ...as you can see they did not. When I push back they said to reorder the food.... yeah ok. Horrible. I PAID OVER $70. The delivery guy was nice enough to go back and get the rest of the food but they REFUSED to give it to him. The gag is.... I originally called another store by mistake to report the issue and they were happy to replace the food. When I called the correct restaurant they kept saying nothing they could do.

As much as I ordered, there is a whole lot more that appears on their menu after scanning the QR Codes on the tables. The Canchita is a nice crunchy snack on its own, but is kicked up a notch with the green sauce. If you like popcorn, try the canchita. The Lomo Saltado Empanadas are good and very good relative to empanadas I have had elsewhere, but the Chicharron Empanadas are where it's at here. The pork belly is not too fatty and the flavor and texture will keep these on steady rotation every time you come here. The Huancaina sauce over the fettuccine pasta with the small pieces of smoked pork rib meat will remind you of pancetta, but the Huancaina sauce is familiar with a cheesy and creamy texture that barely hints at the yellow peppers in the sauce. This is comfort food that accompanies the Pollo a la Brasa with the green sauce perfectly. They could have been more generous with the pork rib in this dish and the pieces are so small I had to taste them alone to know how they taste, otherwise becoming lost in the sauce. The Shmrip Chaufa, which, like the fettuccine, can be ordered with several proteins, hints at the East Asian influence on Peruvian cuisine, similar to the Lomo Saltado. It's a great fried rice, that elsewhere would go well with soy sauce. Here, the green sauce is on order. The salad that came with the family meal is crisp lettuce, tomato and cucumber with their bright vinaigrette dressing and it cuts across the rich and savory flavors you experience here. I reserved the last, but not least, for the Pollo a la Brasa. You will start eating this with a knife and fork, but end cleaning the bones with your hands in mouth. This is where you'll get down and don't care who is watching as you devour this chicken, where the flavor and texture of the crisp skin, gives way to tender and juicy chicken and ends with the flavor of the bones. The skin was crisp after coming out of my oven at home and would come out even better in a convection oven or air fryer. As good as the Lomo Saltado is, the Pollo a la Brasa is better in my opinion. The green sauce puts this chicken over the top and this chicken must be among the best roasted or rotisserie chicken you can find among the five boroughs. The coffee flan is very good. I am not one who can evaluate flan, given I don't eat it often. I don't have a sweet tooth typically. However, I appreciated the texture and contrast with the coffee. My total for all this came to $160 before tip, which is not bad for this amount of quality food and befitting of the Michelin Bib Gourmand rating. One well known chain of Peruvian restaurants in the City will charge you the same family meal price for one chicken and it will not be as good. It's midweek and I'm still eating and the other chicken is in the freezer for another time. 4.3 very returnworthy stars!

We decided to sit inside because it was a bit hot outside and inside were several empty two seater tables. A large party of more than 15ppl were seated, a table of 3ppl, and several couples at other tables. The place is tastefully decorated with a beautiful 3D aesthetic pleasing wall mural of a woman's face. 2 bathrooms were neat and clean. Food was delicious, and presentation was awesome. We ordered their sampler that comes in a 3 tier serving tray: coconut shrimp, calamari, chicken and steak skewers, wings(the only thing that didn't seem fresh and did not taste like sweet Thai chili-and we eat sweet Thai chili a lot -that's how I know), mini bite size various meat/seafood empanadas with the outer dough having a normal red or black coloring. The 3 chimi sliders were very tasty and the guacamole and yaniqueque -flat dough that is deep fried and crispy. Services although excellent seemed very slow. It is not uncommon to find service slower when there are less people in the establishment because staff will go about setting up their station, cleaning without noticing that people are waiting for water, ready to order food or drink or asking for the check. I empathized with a woman who I noticed sat by herself, slightly annoyed to wait to place an order her great looking fish-she had to signal a server to come take her order--by this time there are still several empty tables. Overall, because the food was great, I will come back again.

I ordered the Rigatoni Salmon, and while it wasn't an overly bold dish flavor wise, it was cooked beautifully! The salmon quality was incredible, and the little pieces of zucchini, mushrooms, and yellow squash were diced so perfectly that even the texture of the dish stood out to me.
