Pio Pio never fails with me. I absolutely love their ceviche mixto, usually I order to go but this time we ate in and they put the spicy sauce on the side which was amazing because I could control the flavor. Then we got their white sangria which was also amazing (my first time having it, so good!) and we also ordered a Jalea with maduros on the side and it was as good as it always is. The jalea is always a bit greasy but honestly, the sauces are so good you don't even care at that point. Love them here! read more

I have been to the location on Amsterdam and 93rd at but nothing compares to Pio Pio on Cypress Ave in the Bronx. The food is everything . Fresh, delicious, tasty, abundant. They have great servings, take your order/serve you in a timely manner... Not to mention the service! ALL of the staff is ALWAYS pleasant and willing to help. So I tried to order online but you could only order online if you're paying by credit card they don't let you pick it up and pay cash. So I went in and I ordered they were very nice. So when I got home I opened my order the chicken look good but if you go you expect Fresh food the Salchi papa was not fresh it was overcooked. The Yuca was not fresh. I usually have a decent experience here but the waiter AQUINO A. Is the most rude waiter I've encounter in such a very long time. This afternoon had a fair amount of people and he was the only waiter. Because of that I was extremely patient while I needed help for a while and he never looked my direction but attended to the others in business suits. When I did a polite wave to get his attention, he came to my table and said "what do you want?" I asked why are you addressing me that way? He says "u see me with other people I'm busy". I haven't t been talking to like that while dinning and I was extremely patient while he ignored me . The first time I went, I took my mom. This is the only sit down restaurant in the neighborhood that's worth taking out-of-towners that I've discovered so far. I ordered maduros, a half chicken, and my mom had the calamari. We also ordered the red sangria. The food was fantastic. The service was a bit slow. I went back again a few months later with my partner and his family. We ordered maduros and they were a complete 180 from the ones I'd had prior. They were dry and stiff. The service was still the same -- servers appear when you need them or a few minutes after -- but I was a bit surprised. I'd return again, and I would recommend it. But still, don't know what food items I'd recommend since they haven't been that consistent. read more

First time visiting the Pio Pio location in the Bronx. I was not disappointed. The services was quick and the food was as good as I've ever had it. We decided to have the jalea and it was amazing, next time I would just asked for the pickled onions and tomatoes to go on the side to keep the seafood from getting soggy. The sangria was divine. The only thing I would suggest is the addition of a host of hostess upfront, as you kinda stand there hoping for someone notice you and seat you. My coworkers and I are regulars here. We love the food, the environment, and the Sangrias! We always order the lunch special which comes with a salad, main dish, and drink all for $13. I always get the quarter chicken( white meat) with either rice and beans or tostones. The chicken is well seasoned and never dry. The rice and beans mixed in with a little green sauce are flavorful. The tostones can be dry ( so make sure you have a beverage on hand). The Sangria, I would say, is definitely a group favorite. The staff is ok here. I believe they could be a little friendlier. Overall, this is a great place to come; whether it's lunch with your coworkers, a date, or catching dinner with family and friends. I definitely plan to try new dishes when I return. read more

I've been to the Pio Pio in Queens and the one in Midtown and was a little hesitant in trying the one in the South Bx, but I would have to say Ive been here about 5x and this one does not disappoint. I particularly like this one because it is so quiet unlike the one in Queens. I absolutely LOVE their ceviche here, whether its the regular ceviche or the mixto, both are amazing with their famous green sauce. I wish it was a little cheaper since I come here a lot. Their chicken is ok tastes great with green sauce. I normally order the matador combo which comes with chicken and a bunch of sides. Their avocado salad is soo good and refreshing. I also love their salchipapa. Compliment your meal with a nice pitcher of red sangria and you will have perfection :) The restaurant is usually empty unless its weekend or a holiday, but their service is great. They also pretty quick with take out orders. Parking might be a little difficult around here though. I recommend not coming here too late at night especially during the summer time because it is a high crime area. I will definitely be back again and again. read more

It came with a whole chicken, rice and beans, tostones, avocado salad and French Fries with hot dogs on top. It was really good! Yes, the meat of the chicken basically fell off the bone that's how tender it was. It was still so juicy that you don't need any other sides or sauce to compliment it. The rice and tostones weregood but I felt like it wasn't enough. We also had a half a pitcher of red sangria, I am not sure who left a Yelp comment saying it was watered down but ours was not at all! But the food was super filling already so I'm not sure if I would order the sangria in the future but that's just me. If you want to pay $18 for a half a pitcher then do you, boo. The prices are a bit steep only because I'm from Jersey and we have Peruvian spots like this with the same quality food and atmosphere but for a lower price. read more

Their chicken reminded me more of something I could get at a dominican restaurant than a peruvian restaurant. I've been to other peruvian restaurants in NYC that are more authentic in regards to flavor. Still, food was good and portions were big enough. I swear this chain gets it right at every location they have. I've been to several in Manhattan, the location in Queens, but I'm happy it's in the Bronx and easy for me to get to. Clearly, I'm biased. I love this restaurant. I don't think I've had Peruvian food anywhere else, but if this is an indication of what to expect, I'm in. I usually get the Arroz Chaufa with the green sauce, my absolute fave. Or on a day I'm feeling sassy, I'll have the Lomo Saltado. It's not worth it. I ordered the lomo saltado. For $28 I would expect more than 7 pieces of steak strip. Not only that, it had zero flavor. I also ordered Juanita's chicken and it was dry and had no taste, similar to the white rice it also had no seasoning. The only good was the aji verde. Ever have such a bad experience with just getting the food that the food doesn't have its own appeal? I tried to place the order online to take advantage of the help discount but said I had to call the order in as online ordering was not available. When I did, they couldn't apply the discount. That's not such a big deal but when I went to pick up, you pay and then bring the receipt to pick up your food. There was a worker tucked under the counter and I waited for him to acknowledge me. When he didn't, I got his attention and found he was busy on his phone. He put my bag in front of me and without saying anything else, went back ducking under the counter. I noticed that everything was wrapped up nicely except for one sauce at the top. Didn't think anything of it and put everything on my passenger side. As I was driving, I looked over at the bag and noticed the sauce was not completely closed. Just as I was thinking, I should secure that sauce, I had to stop short and the sauce is now ALL over my car! This place is a Rip-Off!! I had placed an order of 1/2 chicken (Dark Meat), which came out to $12 + tax+ delivery. I'm under the impression that for that price , meal comes with rice. I found out that it's $12 for 2 pieces of a whole leg, So I'm basically paying $6 per leg...Unbelievable!! Plus since I called back in regards to getting an order of rice, The lady told me that since it's a delivery, I have to Spend another $12. I was soo furious with the Gauge pricing. I ordered an arroz chuafa basically what this is fried rice with meat and eegs. Now I ask for this order but I did not want no eegs or meat. The lady who was taking my order said if I just wanted vegetables I said yes and if they could add carrots she said yes and this is what I got a big old greasy plate of rice with no vegetables the carrots I added and onion they charge me 15 dollars for a greasy plate of rice and carrots. When I brought up the issue to the male employee March 27 7:30pm, he brushed me off and said it's not his problem and that it's a known issue but that the owners don't care to address it. Overall, he had a nasty attitude and refused to have a civil engagement of listening to the customer. Terrible service and terrible that they know this issue to exist.
