This is not my first time eating at this restaurant. And every time I eat here I am disappointed. The food quality just isnt the same as it use to be yet the prices keep on increasing. They finally got small containers as an option only to charge the same as the large. I was floored!.. not everyone wants a large plate of food. We stumbled upon this place only to get a cup of coffee...But we ended up having a lunch instead... I had a good experience here. There was only one waitress and she was attentive and helpful. but we just ended up just ordering at the counter and service is fast. So if you're in a hurry, you'll be happy here.. There is an ATM in the store. I'm not sure if it's CASH only...(my husband paid) so make sure you have cash just in case. The environment is clean and is kept consistently clean. The only thing is that they messed up my coffee order and put 2 sugars instead of only 1. But that's ok. I'd just count that as an honest mistake. This is the best place in the entire neighborhood. The prices are amazingly cheap, but the quality of the food doesn't show it. They are famous in this area for their family dinner combos. You can get a whole roasted chicken, pepper steak, fried chicken chunks or fried pork chops combo meal for $12.95. Each combo is enough to feed 2 adults and 1-4 children (depending on how old your kids are). The combos consist of one of the meat items listed above, white rice, beans, family size salad, fried sweet plantains and a 1 1/2 lt. bottle of Coke or Sprite. There is also a pernil (pronounced peh-nee) combo for the same price, but it is a little different. You get 1 pound of pernil (slow roasted pork roast), white rice, beans and the 1.5 lt Coke. The food is excellent. It's seasoned just right. It comes in huge portions. The only thing that is a little annoying is they only give you 2 tiny packets (regular ketchup packet size) of the worst salad dressing ever made with your combo. So, buy your own dressing at the grocery store before ordering a dinner combo. Also, they have a killer carne guisado(pronounced car-nay gee-sow) (Spanish beef stew). But the best time to order that is late in the evening. Normally, you want the freshest food possible from a restaurant, but this is a stew. The longer it has had time to cook, the more tender the meat is and the more the flavors have had time to mingle in all the right ways. The stew does not taste the same at noon as it does at 8 or 9 o'clock, which is when I always get it. Mix it with a little bit of the beans and rice from the combo, and you are in Heaven. If you've got some tortilla's and lime on hand, order the pepper steak combo and make some of the best fajitas you'll find outside of Arizona. As far as I'm concerned, the best combo to get for a family is the roasted chicken. It can be split up easily, and it's very filling. The fried pork chops are great, but you only get 3 in the combo. The thing that makes them so popular here? Well, you can come home from work, order enough food to feed everybody for $13-$30, depending on the size of your family, and have it delivered for FREE in about 20 minutes. It's a working family's best friend. Home cooked flavor for less than the price of McDonald's, Taco Bell or KFC. It's actually my kids' favorite because of the fried bananas. If you are black DONT COME HERE. They give you smaller portions than they do of their own kind. They have 11 tables with one waitress, shes overwhelmed and it shows in the service. I always order Pernil. My first time here i thought the smaller portion was just a "bad day." Then i came in a second time and i said to myself "usually at spanish restaurants they give you a nice sized portion, well maybe its just the Pernil---." I did come in a 3rd and 4th time, nothing changed. My 5th time was on a Sunday, the place was busy, alott a Spanish patrons, so i couldn't help but notice their nice sized portions---what i am used to seeing at a Spanish restaurant. This restaurant has gone down hill it used to be one of the best "fast food" Spanish restaurants around the one on Tremont is way better still however this establishment the customer service sucks always feel rushed and as if the guy running the register has an attitude. He refused to swipe my credit card saying it didn't work although I just used it moments before. The quality of the food here is also subpar. We eat every now & then at the original El Bohio on East Tremont in The Bronx. They're famous for their pernil. The service is so - so but we'll make the trek for the pernil. We've noticed a couple of these El Nuevo Bohio Restaurants. Figured if they're affiliated, they'd keep to the formula. When you go to the original you're greeted by a store front window full of perniles that look as good as they taste! Well, if this place is affiliated, I'll chalk up the disappointment to the "Under New Management" notice. It's a different layout. You walk into a very nice, more modern atmosphere. There are many flat screen televisions around and four in the food area that serve as a digital menu. They display all these beautiful dishes that make your mouth watery. The first question we ask before even sitting down, since you walk into the seating area away from the food, was is there pernil? we were told with a very nice big smile by the waitress "yes." So we went on to order pernil with rice and beans and a mofongo de camarones. As we continued to look at the digital menu we could not wait until our food arrived Shortly afterwards, the waitress returns. At this point we know something is wrong. She comes back to say there is no pernil. I explain to her that that was the reason that we came. We came for el Bohio's famous pernil. So we decided to try something else. Then I asked if there was Rabo (oxtails) and there was none. At this point we decided it was time to leave before things could get any more disappointing. We will return to the original el Bohio. If we discover this new management is the reason for what took place, there will be no more el Bohio for us. Now we are off to Carida in Kingsbridge which never disappoints. read more

Every time I come home to visit family this is my first, last and In between stop. My favorite is the fried pork belly pronounced "chee Cher rones" Amazing you have to get the pickle red onions and fried sweet plantains. Or oxtail stew, umm total a orgasmic experience. The setting is right on the Conner of a busy intersection so parking might be a issue. The service some time can be a lil slow at night. I usually go in the mid day. I totally agree with Carroll about the prices. The quality of food depends on what you are getting and how. If you have the food delivered, the delivery man is very lazy. He will make you walk to the car to pick up your order and he doesn't know how to communicate in the English language. Most dishes taste good. But I recommend NOT ordering the chicharron de pollo ( chicken chunks). It lacks meat and sometimes the chicken is too wet. They serve grits for breakfast which is good. But they will never be as good as the ORIGINAL BOHIO which has been around for years. read more

I love this place. The food is always really good and delivery comes fast. I've tried several different dishes and they were all prepared well. They use quality ingredients and prepare the dishes right. I've only received the wrong order like twice out ordering almost literally 100 times. They even say thank you and have a good day most of the time which if you order food in NYC that's disappointingly rare. The only thing that kind of sucks is that they randomly stopped taking cards. The manager claims a lot of people were using fake or stolen cards. I find that hard to believe but even so they could have just started requiring that people show id instead of taking it away altogether.
