As a busy New Yorker sometimes you just want to get your food in peace , I saw a Dominican restaurant near my location and was like oh okay cool, I have blonde hair and blue eyes but speaking Spanish isn't an issue I arrived and immediately I noticed the restaurant was kind of dirty. As I ordered I did not feel very welcomed at all, I didn't pay much mind to it as I ordered my food in a respectful manner and the people in the restaurant where mad at my presence and it was honestly weird. I paid for my food and as I was waiting I saw a roach and didn't say anything but was just completely turned off with the whole idea of eating food prepared in a dirty place. Pretty sad tbh

Busy Monday morning breakfast service with only one table available. Looks like a lot of service goes out with delivery drivers. The Dominican salami and mangu (smashed plantain) order to go portion is enough for two meals. Very little English spoken, so brush up on your Spanish and make it easier for everyone. A great option for gluten-free eaters who crave more starch options with rich hearty flavors and seasoning. An unassuming and tasty find behind a small storefront.

Food, natural juices, and the personalized customer service provides each client the comfort of eating a home-cooked meal without being at home! Food is always fresh, hot, aromatic, and delicious inviting to come in and try a plate of the best moro de guandules, sopa de pollo, sancocho, or one of their typical Dominican meals available daily at La Barca. While the restaurant is not built to host a large crowd, the Caribbean flavors and inviting aromas flowing from the kitchen, keeps new and faithful customers parading through this little hole on the wall all day long 7 days a week. People who venture into La Barca for the first time are in for a treat and an unforgettable dining experience. When they meet Carmen and Margot for the first time, they'll know they've arrived at the best place to eat in or take out in Wash Heights, NYC.

No one told me this joint was Spanish speaking only. I mean I'm good but I wasn't ready for the language barrier nor was I ready for the amazing food that came out of this kitchen!!! Open counter concept with buffets of roasted chicken, oxtails, steak, and fish with rice and beans, tomato salads and avocados. In my struggle Spanish( I must do better) I ordered (barely) Arroz con Pollo with frijoles. Couldn't figure out how to say Black beans and rice with gravy so I ate what I was given(see pic) .... and it was delicious!! The chicken was stuffed with seasoning and herbs, the beans were flavorful with garlic and onion... Fluffy white rice too! I felt like I was eating at my grandma's house and that means a lot to a business traveller! And it was a $10 lunch plate I couldn't finish with tax and tip! Try them out for lunch. It's packed so don't go with a large group. Wait your turn and slide into a seat when you can. Enjoy!

Our flight got here pretty late. My best friends cousin had a little get together for us at their place. By like 5 am I was starving and told them to recommend a place to grab food around here. Little spot around the corner from their place obviously open 24/7. Super small, tight and narrow in there. They have coffee and Dominican food. The lady that served us was really nice. I ordered Los Tres Golpes, it consisted of Mangu which is like mashed potatoes but with green plantains, fried cheese, fried salami with two fried eggs. It was decent. I really liked the fried cheese. Funny story. First time in NY and got into a little argument with someone at this place. I was taking a photo of the place inside and this lady thought I was taking a photo of her. She flipped out, I'm like girl bye who are you? Why would I take a photo of you. . She was so ridiculous and the lady serving our food was defending me. We all laughed at her. My best friend looks over to me and goes WELCOME TO NY!

Walked into Margon Restaurant in Midtown and instantly felt like I found one of NYC's secret cheat codes. Small space, big flavors, zero nonsense. The kind of place where you're elbow-to-elbow with strangers but everyone's united by one thing... serious hunger. Ordered the Cuban sandwich -- pressed, crispy, loaded with roast pork, glazed ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard. One bite in and I stopped talking... which never happens. This thing didn't just deliver... it showed up early and over-prepared. Then came La Bandera Dominicana Braised beef swimming in savory gravy, yellow rice piled like a mountain, black beans doing their thing, and sweet maduros sitting on top like the victory flag. Simple. Comforting. Dangerous... because now I want it every week. Place gets busy, gets loud, gets chaotic... but it moves like a well-oiled machine. Years of experience and zero attitude. Just good people making great food. In a neighborhood full of tourist traps, this hole-in-the-wall is throwing haymakers. Sometimes the best escape in NYC isn't a rooftop... It's a Cuban sandwich and a plastic tray. And honestly... I'd pick that every time. #nycfood #hiddennyc #midtowneats

Everyone agreed with my suggestion to eat Latin American food and we made a reservation at Buena Vista, not far away from our hotel and also not far from the theater. We came over a bit early, around 5:15 and were immediately seated. We were immediately impressed by the business model. It is a melange of Latin American and Iberian faire with exquisite curation. Their cocktails were absolutely delightful, I had a Pantalones en Fuego, others had an exquisite margarita with passion fruit flavor and a Daiquirí de Fresa, just amazing. Then we ordered interminable Hors d'oeuvres. Their ham croquetas and mushroom croquetas were the rage, as well as the tostoncillos ibéricos and ceviche limeño, The main courses followed, a paella valenciana for two, the magret de pato, a delicious duck dish, and a grilled Argentine parrilla. Not bad for four people. Dessert included churros and tres leches. And of course, a bottle of a great Verdejo. Service was just flawless. We had several staff members all contributing to making our Father's Day evening special. All around us it was festive, with plenty of well dressed Spanish speakers in several tables, and the accents of a half a dozen Spanish speaking countries. Plenty of gringoes too. A beautiful collection of diversity. We left happy, ready to see "Oh Mary" and wanting to return

Wagner was great a wonderful personality and he made sure everything was to our liking checking on us periodically. I have been here before (the first time we did assorted appetizers) so but this time I dove into the dinner menu. The oxtail pasta was absolutely lovely, the meat was tender and delicately seasoned. I had the steak (I prefer my steak more on the well side) and the chef managed to keep it positively tender and juicy. Perched on top of a few slices of fried casava slices and a small side salad. You can never leave without trying the flan it's one of the best I have ever had. Service was quick and food was bought to us piping hot. The only down side is they oddly don't make pina coladas (it's the only thing I drink) and the restaurant was a bit too cold but other than that it was a lovely birthday dinner for my friend. Buena Vista is small and popular so I strongly suggest you make reservations if you plan on eating here.

Both the pork and chicken were so tender and flavorful, the chicken meat was basically falling off the bone. Extra points for adding some juicy pork skin along with the meat!
