Don Emilio Diner carries a large variety of dishes. The steam table alone has between 10-12 different options aside from the a la carte menu. The pernil is there front and center and by far the Star of the restaurant. Cooked on low heat for hours the pernil is super flavorful and off the bone tender. Interior looks a bit weird since this place kept the McDonald's chairs, but the place seems clean and the meat tastes better than Brisas de Caribe which is a bit further away. This place used to be worth 5 stars. The portions are huge and the food is delicious and inexpensive. So much so, I'd eat here three to four times per week. I just can't get past the oil on the bacalao guisado (codfish) which is my favorite dish. If they can figure out a way not to use so much oil, I'll become a regular customer again. read more

Don Emilio's is a decent spot with affordable prices to enjoy some Dominican cuisine when you're on Castle Hill. I enjoyed my Cafe con leche, but was a bit surprised it was served in a paper cup as I was dining in. I ordered the $5 tres golpe breakfast platter the mangu was great, but the cheese, salami and fried egg were cold. I recommend arriving early (pre 10AM) to enjoy the breakfast while it's hot. The Shrimp Mofongo was loaded with shrimp, which was nice, but it was very dry and lacked flavor. Although Don Emilio's has major room for improvement I will return and am looking forward to a better experience on my next visit! read more

How does a place that's so awful get worse ? Let me tell you. First of all. Charge me $6 for a baked potato. Not a special baked potato. Not a unicorn baked potato. Just a potato that's been baked. I went on a Tuesday afternoon before 1:00pm. They didn't have the natural juices that I wanted. They didn't have the espresso coffee that I wanted. I ordered a Cuban sandwich and it was good but extremely oily and greasy. The payment method is quite open for everyone to see your pin when paying with a debit card. I wasn't a big fan of my visit but the food, once again, was good. It also got quite packed for such a small and uncomfortable place. The service in the dining area wasn't the greatest but it'll do.
