My friend raved about this place and told me her family loves it. I was down because who doesn't love deep fried dough, right? I was taken a back by the very limited menu. I'm used to Empanada vendors in Queens & Brooklyn having a great variety of meat, cheese, veggie and dessert empandas. But you'd think that since Empanada Mania has a small selection they'd be bomb, right? So wrong. I ordered a combo with beef and a chicken with cheese empanada. They were fried to perfect but the fillings were 0/5. The beef was too salty to eat. They gave me a buffalo chicken empanada instead of chicken with cheese. Oh yeah, I hate orangey buffalo chicken sauce out the jar. The chicken was drenched in said sauce. There signature sauce had a bunch of chipotle seasoning. I don't like chipotle. The green sauce left much to be desired. No where near as good as what we get in the boroughs on NYC. When you check in on Yelp you are prompted that you receive free chips. They don't sell chips so the guy told us he would give us free french fries. My friend ordered a large fry and when we got the order he said he added extra fries to the container when she asked about the free fries. The fries were old and you can taste they were fried in old grease. We didn't lose anything by not getting a free fry. I gave them 2 stars cuz the dough was decent and the cashier was nice. But the deserve 1/2 star on this subpar food. Never again I'll stick to Cesars food truck in BK with a zillion varieties and bomb ass salsa verde.
Absolutely delicious Empanadas!!! We didn't realize this place was so close to home. Wow. The Empanadas we had were amazing, totally filled with meat and the other fillings we ordered. The different sauces are all good, especially the pink sauce. Yum! We ordered for pick up, when I entered the customer service was very pleasant and polite. We will definitely be eating here more often. We can't wait to try again. Highly recommended.
I believe recently reopened. Super clean and friendly staff inside. While the empanadas are a bit pricey at almost $5 a pop, they at least are stuffed w meat. No filler or extra dough. They have maybe 6 or 7 variations with a few for vegans as well. Empanada Mania? well maybe mild excitement from time to time. In!
I came in here with my mom and we ordered a bunch of empanadas. The service was really fast, even though we ordered about 15 or so. Without us even asking, they organized everything so that we knew which empanadas were which. The empanadas are pretty good. My favorite was the Thai chili chicken, it was the most flavorful and delicious!!
While passing through...Empanada Mania in Bergenfield continues to deliver on taste, with a diverse range of flavorful empanadas. However, it's worth noting that pricing has increased, mirroring the broader trend of rising costs. While the higher prices are noticeable, the quality and variety of empanadas still make it a worthwhile indulgence for those craving authentic flavors. The store has been renovated making the store feel brighter and bigger inside. I would definitely recommend
Wow! These freshly made empanadas are authentic and delicious. They are crispy and generously filled! Our favorites were the Cuban pork, bacon, and Buffalo chicken. They are on the pricier side but worth it! Also, parking is awful so be prepared to double park and leave someone in the car!
I came here for lunch one day with my colleagues. Between the 4 of us, we got the 12 empanadas for $20 special. It would be cheaper to do that and then get drinks separately. Also, using Yelp check in, we got a free order of chips, which were awesome. They had an amazing flavor. I tried the spinach & feta empanada, 2 cheeses (jack and colby I believe) and the beef empanada. The best one out of all three was definitely the 2 cheeses one. The spinach one was a bit too salty for my tastes and it had a huge air pocket. The beef was delicious but on the salty and oily side. The beef one was filled to capacity, which I love. The 2 cheeses one was awesome though. It was mostly filled to capacity (small air pocket) and the cheeses weren't too salty, they were just right. They do come out piping hot, which was great. They also gave us two dipping sauces, a homemade habanero one and a pink sauce that is like Thousand Island. Both really good but the pink sauce may be my favorite. The person who took our order was super nice and friendly. He knew what he was talking about. The seating area is a little room off to the side with a curtain. Not fancy at all but it's not like we were out on a first date. Parking is street parking but if you go around, there are a lot of little lots here and there. For the price, it's definitely worth it.
It's been years since I first had empanadas from here, but they keep me coming back! The empanadas are freshly deep fried to a perfect crisp and are filled to the brim with flavorful fillings. My personal favorite is the 2 cheese empanada. Inside the empanada you will find a gooey mix of colby and jack cheese that gives you the perfect IG cheese pull every time. Just be careful- because the inside is super hot. I also sometimes get the buffalo chicken which is stuffed with chicken, blue cheese, and green onions. This one gives me more of a chicken taste than anything as I dont really taste the anything buffalo about it- but still a good option. Another must have are their chips and salsa and their homemade hot sauce. The chips are always good and crisp, but if you're lucky you'll get a fresh hot batch that is unlike any seasoned chip I've ever had. Their salsa is always so fresh and is a good mix of tomato and onion. The hot sauce... OH MAN. This is the real star, I wish I could but it by the bottle. It is spicy and zesty- delicious on all the empanada flavors I've had so far. I do wish the dining area was more put together. Whenever I'm there I always have to wipe something off the table or avoid a table because the leg is broken. But honestly, worth it for the 2 cheese empanada alone. All in all, i highly recommend and will always come back.
I have been looking for a place that ONLY sold empanadas and i found it! Luckily being a pescrtarian i was capable of having three types and a dessert empanada! i had the spinach & feta which honestly I've never had before and reminded me of a greek salad. It was very good. The pizza was good too, I've had these kinds before and they tend to put more sauce than cheese and the sauce drips out and makes a big mess. The 2cheese kind was good, but i wish the cheese was a bit hotter. It was melted but i think it should have been melted a little bit more. I did come an hour before it closed so maybe thats why? Either way, the empanadas were good. everything is made fresh daily and things are reasonably priced. The owner also told me he rotates flavours and kinds depending on what he makes. hopefully ill get to try a shrimp one! i love the dessert one, it was great and once again i wish the white chic chips were melted just a tiny more, but the flavour was good and it was a unique idea. Overall, id deff come back here. You can't find a place that has about 8 diff flavours of empanadas and ONLY sells that.
My boyfriend LOVES empanadas but I'm not really a fan. So being the nice person that I am I ordered him a dozen to try because Empanada Mania supposedly has the best empanadas in north jersey. First off, I recommend ordering ahead of time for pick up. The actual shop is super small so it's not a great place to dine in. I ordered a dozen for $20. They have a variety of flavors (including dessert empanadas like spiced pumpkin with white chocolate chips that I IMMEDIATELY regret not ordering) lol. I ended up ordering quesadilla, cheese, beef, pizza, spinach & feta, buffalo chicken, cheeseburger.. and a few others. I only tried a few bites of the buffalo chicken & spinach and feta empanadas and to be honest I didn't care for either of them. They come with some kind of weird green "hot sauce" on the side that's nasty. But then again, I'm not a fan of empanadas or spicy stuff. My boyfriend said he liked the pizza, burger, & buffalo chicken ones. I guess they would be good for a football party or something like that but I wasn't entirely impressed.
Came here this afternoon after hearing about it from a coworker. I walked in and it seemed empty. Until an older man stepped out from the back and took my order. He was very friendly. Empanadas start at $3.00 a piece but the the price goes down as you get more. Went for 3 empanadas: chicken quesadilla, beef, and double cheese for $7.00. The double cheese was exactly as advertised. Melted cheese in a pocket of fried dough. The chicken quesadilla was better, stuffed with more chicken than colby jack cheese. The beef empanada was straight seasoned ground beef. It was absolutely stuffed, just like an empanada should be. But overall, the place is just OK. The prices are steep for an empanada and after spending 4 years of college in Hudson county, I know a million places off Kennedy Boulevard where I can get empanadas just like these for a dollar.
Just finished tackling a 1/2 dozen (6 empanadas) with my husband and lemme tell you, this place throws other places out of the park. Husband had Pizza, Buffalo Chicken and Quesadilla, he enjoyed them all but his favorite was the pizza one. He says the freshness of all three and the amount of cheese in each individual empanada makes it enjoyable and worth each bite. I had the Beef, Spanish & Feta, and Cheese. My personal favorite was the beef. The quality of the beef was just phenomenal, the seasoning and juiciness was just perfect. If you're looking for QUALITY empanadas, look no further. Come down here and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. You can sit here and just truly enjoy your food instead of feeling rushed out like certain franchises.
I originally went to petruska park in Paramus for the blood drive they were holding but forgot I could not donate due to recent travels! I decided to stop by the empanada mania food truck and ordered the buffalo chicken empanada and chicken and cheese empanada. The empanadas were crispy and fluffy, chicken and cheese was better than the buffalo chicken. The chicken was a bit over cooked in some parts of the empanada, but overall good. One thing I was upset about was the lack of sauces available to accompany my empanadas. I asked for sauce and was told they only had hot sauce available. I definitely have to stop by the original location to try more empanadas.
Empanada Mania 62 S. Washington Ave. Bergenfield NJ 07621 Angus Beef Bacon Cheeseburger Cuban Sweet Thai Chicken Spinach & Feta On the Southern part of Washington Avenue is a Latin American spot that specializes in homemade empanadas. Owner Galo and Manager Felipe introduced me to a variety of the signature product. Check out the outer layers of these crispy empanadas. If you think they look this good on the outside, wait until you see the inner fillings! Angus Beef: This original version of this folded hot pastry is packed with plenty of angus beef along with sautéed peppers & onions. Bacon Cheeseburger: This may have a similar appearance to the previous empanada, but do not be deceived. Imagine having a juicy succulent bacon cheeseburger in a crunchy shell in lieu of a hamburger roll. Cuban: Here's a perfect variation of the classic Cuban sandwich. The pork was smoked for several hours and it also includes ham and mozzarella cheese. Sweet Thai Chicken: It's time to try some Thai. The sweet thai chili sauce mixed in this Asian style empanada has the perfect blend of heat and spice. Spinach & Feta: If happen to be a vegetarian or If you just need a break from meat and poultry, the spinach & feta is a must try! As a bonus, these two secret sauces are fantastic supplements for your meat pies! Dunk away in the house made red hot sauce or if you are craving thousand island base with some top secret ingredients then go for the pink sauce. As another bonus, there is a state of the art coffee machine for hot beverages such as expresso, or cappucinno. All in all, each empanada was paradise. When I next return I'm looking forward to exploring their other empanadas as well as the side dishes. #empanadamania #empanadas #cuban #angusbeef #baconcheeseburger #SweetThaiChicken #spinachandfeta #LocalBusiness #foodstagram #eats #njfoodie #localspots #foodreviews read more
I've heard very good things the past 14 years about Empanada Mania. An award winning food truck, a catering business, and this tiny storefront producing big flavors. Street parking; only a few seats to eat inside. Basically a To Go place. These empanadas were awesome!! Big & stuffed with a very nice crispy, fried shell. ( they offer mini sized empanadas too) There are many options of Savory fillings, but I wish they had more "sweet\dessert" types. Which brings me to my favorite: the Guava & Mozzarella Cheese empanada... Best one I've ever had. For upcoming St. Patricks Day (for a limited time) they have -- The Reuben- filled with Smoked Corned Beef, Swiss Cheese & Sauerkraut. EMPAN-TASTIC! Wish I had a beer. -the Cuban Pork empanada made with an 8-hours smoked pork, with ham and mozzarella was very good, but I wasn't a big fan of the Sweet Thai Chicken empanada with, sweet Thai chili sauce, scallion and cilantro.. Maybe I was full... The fries are old school. Reminded me of boardwalk fries. Some a little greasy. Some a little overcooked & crunchy.. So if you like empanadas, you need to give this place a shot. read more

Finally I got to try this place after hearing about it earlier this year. I shared a dozen empanadas - 2 of each of today's 6 flavors - all for $20 with 3 friends at dinner today. We halved all of them so the 4 of us could sample each flavor. We couldn't have enjoyed them more, as we were all new to this restaurant. Beef was up there as my top 2 - the ground beef was seasoned nicely and had just enough juiciness and fat. The other top 2 was quesadilla - shredded chicken with good aroma and flavor. The other 4 flavors today were pizza, spinach and feta, 2 cheese, and fajita. Personally I would order fajita and spinach and feta again. Overall the empanadas were nicely crisp, just enough dough, and not greasy. The chicken could be more juicy though. Complimentary house-made hot sauce coulda used more kick but otherwise was nice and didn't compete with the empanadas. In terms of service: from the start the owner was incredibly friendly and attentive - it's the details that made tonight's experience awesome. He promoted local events they were participating at too, so I'm definitely looking forward to them. As a super duper bonus today (cus we were cool customers), he even gave my friends and me free guava and feta dessert empanadas which weren't even on the menu, but rather were prepared earlier from a catering event. I love my desserts with some savoriness, and these were perfectly balanced for me. My friends prefered more sweetness, but I recommend anyone to try them. Really hoping this place grows and expands their menu, as after talking to the owner he comes across as truly loving food and being more than capable of creating exceptional and inventive flavors. As of now the menu is geared understandably towards highest demand since the business is relatively new, but I really would love to see more homages to Latin flavors and ingredients. Oh and staple dessert items. Oh Empanada Mania - I will return. read more

Delicious, fresh empanadas. When you're craving them, this is the place to go. The dough was light, crispy and not greasy. My favorite was the cheese empanada. Good customer service. The kitchen staff was nice enough to 'map' which empanada was, on the cover of the take-out container since I ordered 1/2 dozen. read more

Hi Walt, first of all we thank you for the support you have shown and…
Delicious Empanada from tiny store in S Washington ave, Bergenfield. It took me some time to find this small store cause there were no signs like other regular stores. The owners are very nice and personable. I ordered dozen of mixed empanadas to go, it takes 10 mins to cook. They have small waiting area with chairs, small tables to eat and also nice cozy area for children's birthday party. Their service was very personal. From the entering the store until I leave, their services were great. She also did perfect drawing on to-go container for every flavor which makes it easier to choose. I thought that was really nice, not everyone does. Their empanadas are so good! Not greasy. I'm not a empanada lover but I finished half of them on the way home. They were all delicious. 'Pizza' was my favorite. It has homemade sauce with mozzarella cheese inside. 'Shepard pie' was my husband's favorite, 'Beef' was good also. '2 cheese' was full of cheese heaven in the mouth. 'Quesadilla' with hot sauce just made perfect combination, 'Buffalo chicken' was tangy and has nice kick. All of their empanadas are very light, crispy and full of fillings. I cannot wait their seasonal flavors and specials. They do caters, accommodate children's party. read more
A small business that is definitely deserving of your patronage. I've never had a bad meal or experience here, and the empanadas are perfect every time. I personally like the buffalo chicken and quesadilla and the homemade hot sauce is a must. The hot sauce makes the meal. The empanadas are never oily and always fried fresh. They also package take out perfectly. The empanadas stay crispy and no matter who's at the register they label which empanadas are in which containers/bags and then tell you where they are. No on gives you service like that anymore. read more

My Co-workers and I have been wanting to try this place for while but only got a chance to do so today. I took a ride down and bought Pizza, Buffalo Chicken, Chicken Quesadilla and the Beef and Onion. They make them fresh while you wait. It took less than 10 minutes from the time I ordered until I walked out. We cut them up and shared them between 3 of us. They were all delicious! The outside is crispy without being greasy. The inside is stuffed well. There are only a few small tables so it is best to take out. read more
My husband and I stopped in to Empanada Mania for a quick bite. We each got the three Empanada combo (which comes with a soda) and the chips and salsa. Chips, not your traditional tortilla chips, but, more like pita chips! They were heavenly! Seasoned well and you could totally tell they were homemade! As was the salsa, chunks of tomatoes, red onion, just enough and not over powering! The empanadas, were a perfect size! We tried the quesadilla, shepherds pie (so good), two cheese, traditional beef, spinach and the buffalo chicken. All were delicious!! Small place, only like three tables, parking in the back, walk up (quick) service. Owner was really nice, and very helpful! Very inexpensive! Each Empanada is $2.50! They also had combos starting at $2.99, and catering! Go now! Enjoy! read more

You may past this place trying to find it!! But this place is awesome!! The guys working there are supper nice and make killer empanadas. It's def more a take out place though. My boyfriend and I got a half dozen, 3 each. We both ordered the spinach and feta which has great flavor. I got the beef and Colby & jack quesadilla. The beef was my favorite of all 3. My boyfriend also got the buffalo chicken and chicken and cheese. We also got a side of the hot sauce, buyer beware it is extremely spicy!! Cause of the awesomeness of yelp we also had free homemade tortilla chips which were light and crispy! This place is amazing and totally a hole in the walk spot. Do not pass this up!! read more
