The creation of the empanada predates the Spanish empire even though the word empanada comes from the Spanish word 'empanar,' meaning "to cover in pastry with dough." They are popular in countries all around the world, and the filling options are just as varied. Enjoy them for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, served as an appetizer or main dish. Opened just two years ago in a little strip mall consisting of 2 stores off S Main St in Lodi, I came to Empanadas NJ Cafe as a first-timer for lunch. Upon entering this cozy shop with 3 tables for dining, I was greeted by the staff at his family-owned/family-run establishment specializing in Argentinian empanadas. These, put simply, are savory baked hand-held pastries. A large selection menu featured everything from Beef, Chicken, Ham & Cheese to Apple Pie, Hawaiian, and Guava & Cheese. One can't go wrong with any of the options. After speaking with Lucas, the owners' son, he recommended their popular Beef, Chicken, and Cuban Empanadas. They arrived hot. Each empanada was identified with the initials on the left side border. The shells were not greasy. They were packed full with the flavorful fillings with the accompanied Chimichurri sauce and were delicious. The price was comparable to the area. The staff was friendly and helpful; the service was fast. They've gotten so popular that a second location has been announced in Boonton. It was worth every minute, which I can recommend.

Empanadas NJ Cafe 53 S. Main St. Lodi, NJ 07644 Egg, Bacon, & Cheese Empanada Beef Chicken Pulled Pork Spinach Located on South Main Street in Lodi NJ is an Argentinean café that specializes in house made empanadas Owner Felix introduced me to a variety of the signature product. There were so many choices, that it was hard to make a decision. Two Uncut Empanadas: Have a look at the outer shell of these stuffed pastries. It's a win-win whether you have one as an appetizer or a few as a main course. It's time to crack open these empanadas and see what's on the inside! Egg, Bacon, & Cheese Empanada: Start off the most important meal of the day with the egg, bacon, and cheese breakfast empanada. If you are a morning person, you'll definitely feel like an early bird that catches the worm! Beef: This original empanada is packed with meat, onions, and bell peppers. There's also a hint of hard-boiled egg , which adds an extra layer of savory flavor. Chicken: If you are a fan of Halal chicken, then this style is a must try! Pulled Pork: I'm not pulling your leg when I say the pulled pork was divine. The protein was roasted in the oven and smothered in house made barbecue sauce. Spinach: If you aren't in a carnivorous mood and are desiring some veggies, then try the spinach empanada. I can virtually guarantee that if Popeye were to explore this vegetarian empanada, he will ditch his can of spinach in a heartbeat. It was a pleasure visiting this café and I'm looking forward to trying their other menu items. #njempanadas #Empanadas #beefempanadas #chickenempanadas #pulledporkempanadas #breakfastempanada #spinachempanada #njfoodie #localfoodbusiness #foodstagram #foodreviews

WOW! Wasn't expecting this to be soo good. The pulled pork one had such great flavor. Theres about 8-10 different ones to choose from. They are air fried not deep fried. No seating inside. Worker was very polite.

I heard about this place through some friends and decided to check it out today I purchased the pulled pork, pepperoni and cheese, beef and chicken empanadas, and each one just got better than the last Planning on sharing them, but that's didn't happen. The chicken is not spicy just full of flavor and the pulled pork was my absolute favorite. This mom and Pop shop is located on S. Main St. in Lodi, and has the best empanadas I have ever had along with an amazing coffee machine that makes lattes cappuccinos. I tried an iced latte and it was perfect. The owners are super friendly, and I received great service. There's three small tables to sit at, but I did take out. I will definitely be back here, and I am looking forward to my next party so I could cater these little gems to my friends If you've had empanadas elsewhere, give this a try, you'll be pleasantly surprised

First time going in here and I am so happy I found it. Really sweet staff and a wide variety of savory and and a few sweet empanadas, the empanadas are baked and has a soft flaky crust with well proportioned meat filling. The beef patty is also good. Their Spanish style coffees are a must. Dessert options such as tiramisu and tres leches available. Small cute cafe. Can see myself being a regular customer!

Great shop! I prefer Argentinian style empanadas because I appreciate the baked goodness and type of filling. These taste like they are straight from Buenos Aires. I believe Felix is who helped me and was kind and polite. I couldn't help myself and ordered 5. 2 more than my stomach could handle so I finished them for dinner. (I would say 2 is average hungry and 3 is very hungry.) it came with a great side of chimichurri sauce which was amazing. Do come in :) Update 10/03/24 Real Argentinian- "How you say 10/10" Me - " perfect score " RA- "Perfect score!"

Small empanada shop/cafe. The space is tidy and it has a well stocked selection of various baked empanadas. I had ordered 2 empanadas one was Beef and the other was Cuban. They were quickly served hot and were both tasty. Great for a quick snack. Looks like they also have a selection of sweets and a nice espresso machine to chase them down which I will try on my next visit.

A pleasant little GEM! Found this place via Yelp! stopped in while in the area for work and no regrets. Gentleman that was working the counter, was very welcoming and was open and willing to explain the products. All of the products are handmade and baked to perfection! Very tatsty. I am used to fried empanadas, but this was a welcomed change! Definitely recommend checking this local spot out.

I stopped by because I live in the area and saw the sign. It's a small, clean shop and the empanadas are out of this world. My favorite are the chicken and the beef. I also had a cappuccino that was so good. I've been in a couple of times and Sandra has been so nice. Today I also had the tiramisu. Chicken, pulled pork, beef and Spinach empanadas in the photos. I'll be back for sure!!

New and promising, good sizes empanadas. I had the following in order of favorite: 1. Cuban 2. Pulled Pork 3. Beef 4. Guava and Cheese

    Alfajor

Delicious empanadas, Im Argentinean and I usually only eat my mom's empanadas but these are very well made!! The alfajores de maizena are tasty as well and they dont leave that dryness that others usually do! And they have the most generous layer of dulce de leche!!! On top of the food the service is always wonderful! My husband went in today and was astonished on how friendly the owners son was! We work in the customer service field and service to us is so important!!! Keep up the great work and see you next time!! Gracias!

The beverage items were: Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso (Espresso swirled with brown sugar, cinnamon, and milk). I really enjoyed this beverage. It was served in a large glass and the presentation was appealing. It showed the flavorful espresso at the bottom 1/4 of the glass and after mixing it all together.....wow! The next choice was the Mocha Latte, with slim milk. The only thing I'll mention about this drink was, that it was the best they've ever had, annnnnnnnd they've had a lot of them. They just opened 3 months ago and are located in the business district on Pleasant Ave. There's plenty of angled parking in the area. The interior has a rubber duck theme. Adorable and fitting! It's a small spot with very limited seating. There's one table and a few stools near the window. The menu offers bubble waffles, crepes, pastries, bubble tea, baked goods, and coffee. You can build your own crepe/waffle or you can choose from signature creations with pre-selected ingredients. They have a large variety of toppings and sauces. I ordered the Ying & Yang (~$9) signature bubble waffle which comes with crushed oreos, mochi bites, nutella, and white chocolate drizzle. Service was quick and friendly. The waffle came out hot and fresh. It was crispy on the outside with a soft and chewy inside. The flavor was similar to egg custard with hints of vanilla. They did not skimp out on the toppings! I indulged in the chocolatey goodness. The mochi bites were chewy with a mild sweet rice flavor. GET BUBBLY!!!
