Best breakfast I've ever had everything on the plate was perfect. The pork chop was amazing.

I give up. I've lived in Walla Walla for 2-1/4 years and I have been to Clarette's 5 times, spaced out to let new cooks take over, because I really want to like this place, but ... The 1st time I went, not long after I moved here, I got a burger at lunch time. I remember thinking it was meh. The meat was dry and the bun was stale. That's about all I remember. 2nd time, I got their version of Eggs Benedict. The eggs were overcooked (jammy-to-dry yolks) and the cheese sauce was terrible. 3rd time was the salmon filet, which was significantly undercooked in the middle. 4th time, I got the Country Biscuit Breakfast: gravy was terribly salty and the scrambled eggs were rubber. Tonight, it was the corned beef hash with two poached eggs and a Belgian waffle: the hash was more green pepper than meat or potatoes, the "poached" eggs were white hockey pucks with completely solid yolks and the Belgian waffle was a fluffy waffle-shaped pancake, no crispness on the outside at all. The waitstaff are fantastic and extremely nice. The setting is ... dated, but serviceable. The place is still better than the truly awful Denny's in town. I really hate ripping the place because the folks are so nice. I guess I'll sum it up this way: I've never had a truly bad meal at Clarette's, but I've never had a truly good meal there, either. read more

I've been coming here since it was Smitty's pancake house, then Perkins and now Clarette's. Clarette's use to be a good place to eat. Starting a few years ago it went downhill. Then it was sold and we hoped they would make improvements. They have not made improvements to the food. It's even worse if possible. The service is usually very good except for the payment process which is right inside the door where people are waiting to be seated. I was recently told by a coworker about his recent experience here and it just told me it's not been improved. We won't go here again. read more

The biscuit was the best available in Walla Walla but they didn't offer any kind of homemade jam or honey. With Klicker strawberries up the road, it's devastating to be served a biscuit with no homemade Klicker strawberry jam. They have jars of "Clarettes Jam" at the front counter, but they expired two weeks ago. Obviously no one ever buys these, and it's just a gimmick. I expect better from a place that prides itself on its homemade products. If this is too much for them, a little pot of honey would be a big step up from the generic little plastic packets of Smuckers sitting on the table. I got an English breakfast tea as well, and it came with two tea bags and a little teapot, which is very generous, but the water they gave me was not hot enough. Tea needs properly boiling water to steep, and this was practically lukewarm. Otherwise, my eggs were overdone and almost cold, and my grandmother said her ham and cheese scramble was "not what it should be." read more

This place has everything to be an institution, but just doesn't quite make it at any level. Service from elderly lady was slow and nonchalant. Food had great descriptions and great variety, but was bland. Atmosphere has potential, but seems kind of drab. There is nothing bad about Clarettes, but nothing makes it worth going to. read more

The food was exceptionally delicious but my problem was with the Hostess, when she brought us to our table she was very aggressive with setting things down on the table, for instance when she brought over the drinks she was slamming the onto the table and being rude when we went to pay, aggressive behavior you could say, but other than that is was a pretty good dinner. read more

I'm gluten free and I have never gotten sick from eating here. They do have gluten free bread available, and pancakes. Okay, to be honest, it wasn't four-star food, or four-star anything in particular. But it Clarette's offered an extensive menu, reasonably good food, and lots of it, for reasonable prices. It's in a different class from the eating and drinking spots along Main Street catering to visitors back from their wine tasting excursions through Walla Walla Valley. But it has a lot to offer if you're looking for a good, honest meal. As an incoming freshman at Whitman College, I was a frequent visitor to one of Clarette's former incarnations as Smitty's Pancake House. Same building, although it's been remodeled a few times over the intervening five decades. In some ways, it's a throwback to an earlier style of eatery. Hard to find these days. All in all, I bumped it up to four stars, indicating that it's a good place to eat if you are into such things. read more

It is a pretty standard dinner with all of the normal fixings which is both good and bad. We ended up getting a garden omelette with hash browns but both were a bit lacking: the omelette felt like the vegetables were overcooked and it needed some good hot sauce (to which they just had Tabasco) and the hash browns were not crispy. The prices itself were a little bit higher than dinners we were use to and for what we got it wasn't worth the price. That being said, the staff took good care of us and it is in a good location for parking and for a walk to town. read more

I recently brought my family in for brunch. It wasn't too busy since it was in the middle of the week. The menu is HUGE! Which is great, because everyone in my family has different tastes. One of my boys got the "Tiny Tot" breakfast and LOVED it. It was the perfect size! My other shared a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. You definitely need to try the whipped cream. It's scooped on like ice cream and so thick. My husband got the corned beef hash and said it was good. I enjoyed my eggs, hashbrowns, and sausage. I needed a crowd pleaser restaurant, and got just what I wanted. Some restaurants cook to live, Clarette's lives to cook.

Restaurant is a dated pancake house. We went on a Monday, it wasn't very busy. Clientele were mostly seniors. Waitress was wearing very dirty apron, while she was not rude, she wasn't personable either. Our food was hot fresh, and portions were huge. Our coffee and water ran out, the waitress went by several times without checking. I finally moved our mugs to the edge of our table. Finally noticing, she passed our table three more times without bringing coffee, finally refilling on her fourth time by, of course when we were almost finished. The restaurant was not overwhelmed. Overall, the food was pretty standard fair, good, not exceptional. read more

service was decent but food was poor for price. Wife had peach crepes. She only ate a few bites. the peaches were hard and she said the crepes tasted terrible. She is not a picky eater so i was surprised. A few bites for $17. I had pancakes n eggs. pancakes were ok but nothing spectacular for $14. We ate here a few years prior with similar results. Only reason for us coming back was we had friends who wanted to meet here for breakfast. We live just down the street and around corner and after our first visit we wouldnt go back except to accomidate others who insist on going here. We had an early dinner there the other day and loved it! My hubby had Spaghetti & I had the Turkey Dinner. Everything was done to perfection. I had the soup prior to the main course and boy do they do a wonderful loaded potato soup! That's a meal in itself! Our waitress was the nicest lady. She was gracious and very helpful. One of our preferred restaurants in Walla Walla, for years now! Service is friendly and quite competent. Prices are affordable. My personal menu favorites are the Whitman omelet, your salmon burger, and several of your soups. Vegetarian options are plentiful. Fresh coffee, and delicious Klicker strawberries in season! There may be wait time if there's a crowd, but almost always there are comfortable places to sit while waiting. The view on the edge of Whitman Campus is beautiful, and I've always considered it worth the wait, --whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Thank you all for your hard work. Unlike a fast food establishment, what you see if what you get. You won't be fooled by highly edited photos enticing you to order the delicious picture on the screen before you. Clarettes is an old school restaurant/pancake-house/diner. If you have ever been to one of the three establishments mentioned above you know you're not going anywhere special. Maybe don't go here for a first date,prom,anniversary( unless you're over 60)... but my personal review is this...... I called to inquire about the selection of pie available... I was given the four options then I ordered as one does. I decided to order an additional slice, different flavor, with that said...when i got home and opened my box of pie with the most excitement to eat this Pie in the luxury of my own private space with zero societal shame! I proceeded to open this lovely described slice of pie and much to my surprise it was CAKE cake cake !!! Um if I wanted cake I would have asked for your cake selection.... Do you not know the difference... ? If it were France and I were Marie Antionette I would be thrilled... but I'm Jake apples and in America.... I want pie... let them eat pie pie pie!!!! Right off the bat our server was super rude. The food came out fast but it wasn't hot, my bacon tasted like it was microwaved. The French toast my mom ordered was so cold in the middle it tasted like it was never warmed up. When they asked her how it was she tried explaining that it was cold and they couldn't have cared less. They weren't even busy so there's no excuse for the poor service. We frequent Clarettes on a weekly basis . We expect that we may have a wait to be seated and we are good with that . We come to Clarettes because of the service , Megan , Ellen and Debbie treat every customer like they have known them for ever . We came for breakfast on 3/30 and we expected a wait , the hostess not only took people who came in AFTER us and seated them but their were also people coming from Maple counter that they moved to the top of the list . I am usually a pretty patient and understanding person but this just doesn't sit right. We chose to come to Clarettes and then to have people moved ahead of us because they were coming from a sister restaurant is not right . It's always great to have a place in town where you can have a great breakfast at a great price, lunch that's tasty at a great price and dinner that reminds you of home at a great price and has great service. Clarette's what happened? I know you're under new owners now for about a year or so, but can that be it? They supposedly know the game so what gives? My wife and I loved Clarette's from the time we arrived a few years ago. The eggs were fried correctly, the toast was toasted and the hasbrowns were actually brown without the grease. And the waitresses were attentive and some reminded me of my aunts fawning over me. That's not the case any longer. I was recently in for breakfast and the toast was warmed over bread, the hasbrowns were greasy (waitress said that everyone was saying that) and the overeasy eggs were cooked hard through. We came in today and wanted a grilled ham & cheese with fries, a Coke and a bowl of split pea with ham. It was only memorable by how bad it was. Now, split pea with ham should be thick, but this was mostly the dried out paste at the bottom of the pot with a thickness like dryish oatmeal. We had to get some hot water to stir in to make it like soup. The taste was good, but the question is why was it served in the first place. Didn't anyone look or care? You know, a grilled ham & cheese is supposed to be hot with the bread crispy and warm right off the grill. Apparently not any longer. On one side of the sandwich, the bread was crispyish - that was the side under the warming lamp. On the other side of the sandwich, the bread was soggy from the steam the ham was giving off. It was pretty soggy so that tells you how long it was under the lamp. You know they weren't busy for that time of the day (one waitress was even vacuuming the carpet - good marks there). Clarette's, what's the scoop? Now I know that the cost of everything is going up, but the grilled ham & cheese with fries is $16.00 and the bowl of soup is $8.00. We were prepared to pay that amount, but not if the food wasn't good or no one cared to make sure it was. Because the waitress who brought the hot water was the one who rang us up, she comped the soup. Shouldn't the aim be to deliver a consistently good product so people want to come back and make dollars that way instead of serving bad product and giving money back? Oh, because we checked, there's a place in Milton-Freewater that has grilled ham and cheese and it's only $6.00, 60% off. read more
