They had no co 2 for draft beer. So it was flat. They didn't have all hors d'oeuvres on the menu. My burger was beyond dead. So over cooked it was hard. The kitchen staff you could hear them using the F-Word. The soup of the day. They didn't have. But I over heard the cook saying F-soup is bad. So I don't know about 3 stars are appropriate maybe 2. The mac and cheese is awesome. The service is horrible. I went here to check out the vibes of Walla Walla when thinking about moving to town. I'd had several people recommend the Red Monkey for dinner, so I went in to check it out. I sat at the bar to watch the NBA playoffs and talk to the bartenders and servers about the town. Two of the three servers I chatted with hated on Walla Walla without restraint. The third was new to the area and very excited about living in the city. Had the mac and cheese not been good, I wouldn't have stayed as long as I did because the vibe and negative conversation about the area was horrible. I did hear that the Red Monkey has new owners, so hopefully they can help boost morale so future visitors don't have such a weird experience when scoping out the area. read more

We really enjoy coming here when we're in town. The drinks and food have always been good and the servers are so nice and friendly. Today, there was a big football game on the tv screens, not too loud not too quiet. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, including us. Very chill atmosphere with a lot of games going on at once. Our server was very attentive, and she was willing to change channels on the TVs to the game that we wanted to watch. When visiting Walla Walla I always look for places that provide great food and atmosphere without breaking the bank or being to eclectic with the menu. Red Monkey fit the bill. The visit started with a great beer menu and continued with a varied selection of food...mostly sandwiches and burgers. I went with the pulled pork (Notorious P.I.G.) with fries. We eat at the monkey and stone hut frequently but are finding their quality of food has gone down. Especially their hamburgers buns. I m done ordering burgers. Very dry and little flavor. The food was great, lots of options and different experiences with food. Crazy, different but delicious combos! Our waiter and her service were amazing but we were seated in the most uncomfortable place in the building... Right in front of the door there are 4 tables around a brick pillar, there were four of us in our party and were sat there. The chairs are okay but seating on the booths are horrible, there is not enough room for two people to sit on one side of it & you would end up bumping shoulders and elbows with another party to your right and left. Lots of TVs, so I'm guessing during a sporting event the atmosphere would be fun. They were not on sports during the time I was there. We were on our way home from Tualatin, Oregon and decided we did not want fast food. I had been to Walla Walla on wine tasting adventures and knew there were several good places to eat. We found this one that was patio pet friendly. We ordered our food, they brought it out and we both could not believe the deliciousness of the sandwiches we ordered. He ordered a Reuben, his favorite everywhere, and said to me "Oh my gosh, I honestly think this is the best ever. I had the Turkey ranch on sourdough and it was so fresh and tasty. We both felt the prices were very reasonable considering the size of each sandwich. We will definitely stop there again as we go from White Bird, Idaho to Tualatin, Oregon frequently. My step dad got the prime rib dipper and he really enjoyed it. My mom got the hipster and said it was a good veggie sandwich. The hostess seated my family of four at a bench/table combo where two of us would have to literally touch elbows with people on either side. We asked for a different table and the hostess seemed very annoyed and coldly told us to pick a table we were comfortable at and she would follow us. It was very awkward and uncomfortable so we slowly made our way to a different table but then decided to leave as the whole situation was handled poorly and the food appeared to be very expensive for such a casual, dark, crowded place. Had some local eats from Red Monkey the other day and yes! I had the backyard smoker with mozzarella and a side of garlic fries. Whoooo this was delicious and hit the spot, the brisket with bacon pieces and melted cheese, melted in my mouth so good. Every bite felt like a Pat on the back for a good job. I love the vibes here, although it was nearly empty when I arrived on a Tuesday afternoon. I'm not from the area and I randomly walked into the restaurant as I was passing by. The service was super slow for a place that's really empty. The food and establishment was definitely on pub bar level where you would go grab a beer and some appetizers. I wouldn't go here for a casual date though, since the food is more for like you're drunk and hungry vibes. The burger I got was cute and had a monkey imprint on the top! Busy place on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered fried pickle chips and blackened fish tacos. The fried pickles were not real good. The batter on them was a thick tempura that was super greasy. I prefer my chips lightly breaded so you can taste the pickle. The dipping sauce was good. The fish tacos were also not that good. Greasy and very fishy tasting. Our friends had the fish and chips, which had the same thick, greasy tempura batter on it. Tortilla soup was delivered cold and had to be returned to the kitchen to be heated?! Dined two consecutive nights. First night tried the smoked chicken sandwich and fries. Very smoky and a bit charred chicken on brioche roll. Sufficiently sloppy (yum!). Tonight tried the Tempura Fish tacos and Guinness Corned Beef and cabbage tacos. Bothe were tasty; however, the 2 small Pieces of fish barely made the grade. The corned beef taco had little meat and almost no cheese. The cabbage and grilled onion slaw was cooked but yet crunchy. Save room for dessert: The warm bread pudding with fruit compote ends the meal satisfying the sweet tooth. We asked for the vanilla ice cream in a separate dish so it doesn't melt quickly. This place is just fine - think TGI Friday's or Applebee's sort of food. There's a nice outside area and it was not that crowded for a Saturday night - we were seated right away. Unfortunately, the staff forgot we were outside and I had to go inside after about 20 minutes and get them to come out. Drinks were good in a kind of cruise ship style way - the price was definitely reasonable, though. The food was classic American - my French dip was a bit more like a cheesesteak in terms of presentation, except for the horseradish sauce. It was kinda soggy and hard to dip. The onion rings were super good - thick yet cooked all the way through and a perfectly crispy breading. I would probably come back for some appetizers and a drink, provided I was not in a huge rush! read more

Wow! One of the best Bloody Marys I have had in awhile. We sat down at the bar and with in 5 mins we were sucking on the straw of one the best spiciest Bloody Mary I have had in a long time. Really friendly bartender too. We liked the spice and the vodka that they used in the drink. I will come back here again next time I am in town. read more

1st time here, was excited...until... The waitress came by, dropped off our menus, and scooted off so fast I thought maybe she had to go to the bathroom. I had questions..but I'd wait. But when she grabbed the drink order, she zoomed away again. My buddy ordered a King Kong burger for 22 bucks..BUT, he had to pay 3 extra bucks for onion rings, which were almost inedible because sadly, they were so oily. The most memorable part of the burger was the imprint of a monkey on the bread..nothing to rave about. I got the prime rib dipper because of the reviews. It was actually boring. Hardly any sauce, the bread was a tad hard, it was just...ok. I will say, the best part were the fries, and for 20 bucks, the waitress brought a refill..then skated away again in full speed mode. I was at a loss for words for the service. In a nutshell, lunch was 2 sandwiches & 2 beers with tax..$62. that didn't include the tip (which I was way too generous due to the lack of service). We met my brother and his wife there on Monday May 27th, 2024. We were visiting from Seattle area and were with our dog. We had enjoyed eating at the Monkey in the past and was happy that it was dog friendly. The food server said that it was OK except we could not put 2 tables together, sadly, only tables left outside were ones that seat only two. The others in the party had already pushed tables together leaving a wide enough row, still, we were told by the food server that management policy was to not put tables together. Since we wanted to visit, we left for the Big House Brewery, where we easily found outdoor seating. My point is The Red Monkey lost a customer only because we were not allowed to push two tables together, even though the table would be full. read more

The very best prime rib dipper I've ever had and I've had a lot of dip sandwich in my 76 years. The french fries fantastic, slightly seasoned and amazing. The service was great and attentive. Beverage are a great seller of beer, wine, mixed drinks, soft drinks and Bottomless Iced Tea. The atmosphere was just amazing, so many big screen TVs with a variety of sport shows ( golf , baseball ) and kid friendly TV documentary. I'm now a huge fan of THE RED MONKEY. The first prime rib dipper I had many months ago was cosmic, one of the best I've ever had, especially with extra prime rib and mushroom/cheese. BUT!!! Since then, I've brought friends and foodie visitors from out of town to the restaurant (and ordered the dipper for pickup) at least 10 times since then. The lack of consistency is shocking. Today, this issue was that they had run out of the usual bread, and used some lame-ass wonder bread type of whatever faux food it was, which immediately dissolved almost before you even have a chance to dip it. When I asked about that, I was told that the bread orders for that are 'back and forth.' What.ever. The last time I ordered online they forgot the jus. Two of the orders before then were flavorless gristle. This place is so close to having the best dipper in town, but it's so inconsistent that I now give up completely on the dipper, a $20 sandwhich. I'm not taking my out of town guests who love good food to Red Monkey any more, despite the nice atmosphere and good beer. If you want to take your family there for OK food in a chill environment with lots of TVs and beer, then go for it. But don't expect to get the same food you ordered last time if you care about the food. The staff seems to care when you meet them, but why the heck can't they produce a basic dipper sandwich consistently? What up, kitchen?! Feeling totally ripped off and disappointed again today....
