SO disappointing. Service was very friendly, or this would be a one-star review. My wife and I both ordered the chicken fried steak. Their version is a simple hamburger patty with no breading. It was the most bland, flavorless gravy my wife and I have ever had. The hashbrowns were okay, they had a nice crisp on them. Everything was so lacking flavor that salt had to be added to taste like anything at all. Typically, we are big fans of small places like this in smaller towns. This was a big disappointment. A small, classic diner on the edge of Milton-Freewater, Wee Bit O'heather has a nice menu full of homemade soups, sandwiches and more ample dinners. Locals often come here for the atmosphere, great service and home-style food. It can get busy at times and it doesn't seat a lot of people, maybe 45 tops, but it's worth the wait and the staff try hard to get you started with drinks. Lately, I had a club sandwich with homemade potato salad. It was great! My wife tried their BLT special which comes with a choice of soup like Navy Bean or Clam Chowder. She really liked it! Not bad, two people's breakfast and drinks for $21 total. A little chilly inside, but it's winter. Seems very popular with the local - I loved the 5 seat counter with comfy looking rolling office chairs rather than stools! Now that's thinking, lol We chose simple standards: French toast, pancake, biscuits and gravy. Clearly average, maybe they are able to do more with a more varied dish. I stopped there this morning for breakfast and was impressed. The waitress was friendly and professional. She was the only waitress working and also bussing tables and working the cash register. What I like about this part of the country is that no one was in a hurry and very patient. All tables(12-15) were occupied and stayed occupied the entire time I was there. The joint was pretty full. A group of 21 girl softball players from Meridian and we had 7 motorcycle riders in - plus the locals which had just about filled it up. The server we had - Tobie I think - was wonderful - she knew what everyone ordered and was always there with coffee - all in all it is a great place for lunch or breakfast. I have been bye there a hundred times and i always thought it was closed but from now on I will plan a stop. I totally discount Lucy L. "s review. We were in Milton-Freewater visiting my husband's grandparents. A cute little town on the way up to Washington state. We stopped in for a late breakfast, although the menu indicated they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day long. This place is Scottish themed, and smaller in size but it was PACKED! Locals all day long, you could tell. Because of this, our food took a little longer than it normally should have, but we were in no hurry. I ordered waffles w/ strawberries. For some reason I thought this meant waffles with fresh strawberries on the side or sliced on top. My fault for not clarifying. The waffles were good, but the pink slop that came on top of them was not. The chunks no longer resembled Strawberries so I just scraped that off to the side. Again though, my fault. Husband's burger looked delicious, as it was when he gave me a bite to try. The other dishes at the table also looked like they were being enjoyed, especially the hash browns. The waitress sold a few locals on the fresh baked pies out the oven, and they did look good. All in all I think this looks more like a burger, fries, and shake type of joint but with everything made from scratch it's probably good all around. read more

This is a great little breakfast spot with a clear leaning towards the locals. The place is Scottish themed and if you are lucky enough to get a seat at the breakfast bar you get to sit in some of the most comfortable rolling chairs. The food is awesome and cheap. My wife and I can get out for less than 15 dollars with coffee. We love that the frequent visitors are featured in the menu with what they order. It adds a personal touch that most restaurants are missing anymore.This place is a greasy spoon so if that is not what you are wanting find a higher scale restaurant. My my. This front door was a step through a portal in time and place. We stepped from Oregon 2018 into small town South Dakota 1964. Paintings on the wall copied from the Bob Ross program on PBS by local relatives so you MUST hang it until they die but long forgotten). Cross stitch projects framed from young efforts at Vacation Bible School, tea set collection from Aunt B on handmade shelves. Tables, chairs and plates from vintage times. Most diners dentured with canes wearing genuine smiles, being spoken to by a solo lovely waitress who they probably knew from childhood and wished had married their grandson. A waitress who's own son (13?) brings some of the finished plates to dishwasher and also some pancakes to a bib wearing farmer nearly 7 times his age. Smiles exchanged with all but the couple who's gaze seemed to say "that's our table" but then pleasantly nodding while slowly lowering onto the bench seat behind table option "B". A fermica covered table next to the Lopi Woodstove that I am sure offers plenty of woodsy warm heat in December. The menu makes you smile and wonder and then say "why not". I had a 2 egg BBQ beef (hamburger) omelette with ample amazing hash browns and I used the sourdough bread (at the suggestion of the waitress) to make a wonderful egg-salad sandwich with Tabasco sauce for extra attitude. My wife had the Taco Omelet, Daughter had the Biscuits and Gravy, Son-in-law had eggs and Hash Browns and we shared a "kids serving blueberry crepe...with spray whip" it was yummy! Clearly not a place to expect culinary cutting edge but it well covers the feel-good, take-me-back to less troublesome times...eats very well. Wow... They just earned new customers for life. Family owned for 31 years. Homemade noodles from scratch in their turkey noodle soup, the traditional hash was excellent, the French dip melted in my mouth. We entered and the grease smell was overpowering. The waitress was sweeping the floor used a filthy dustpan and then grabbed a tray of clean glasses without washing her hands. It was enough to send us out the door after reviewing the menu. Cleanliness matters in food prep and this place was far from clean. Stay clear, I was fooled by favorable reviews. This is a greasy spoon. It took about a half hour for the smell of grease to dissipate after only five minutes exposure. Better ventilation is needed. read more

I've just tried this restaurant today for the first time considering I've always gone through there but never really bothered stopping in and I'm sure glad I've gave this place a try and it's now one of my favorite restaurants in the area, you get a ton of food for your money and you always leave full after arriving there hungry, I love the relaxed, homey feel of the restaurant and the waitstaff are nice too. read more
