Wow! So happy we stopped by this quaint "Mom & Pop" Cafe, as was so delicious! We enjoyed a truly tasty smothered gravy breakfast burrito, local bacon, and some homemade sweet tea too. It was a wonderful experience with excellent customer service in the small, historical town of Echo. This gem was only about a mile off of the freeway, located in a quiet, cozy country paradise...Would highly suggest to anyone when you're in the area and looking for something only Grandma could make! We just had a wonderful breakfast here! We stopped on our way out to wallowa lake as our halfway point. The waitress was very kind and doing her best to make sure everyone had what they needed. The restaurant was very busy, the food took a little time but was 100% worth the wait! We had the chicken fried steak, the everything breakfast burrito and a side of eggs with hash browns for our son. Everything was super delicious, not greasy at all and tasted fresh! We stopped Into this little place on our way through for lunch. My husband was thrilled that he could get breakfast and ordered chicken fried steak with a biscuit and scrambled eggs and I had a BLT with tots. That was the best BLT I didn't make! The bacon was nice and crispy, the lettuce was fresh and the tomatoes were ripe. My husband said that was one of the best homemade biscuits he's ever had and the gravy was homemade and tasty. Our server was prompt and on top of refills (my husband drinks a LOT of coffee!) I took a star off only because there was a big cobweb in the corner of the window-not close to the tables, but still needed to be swept away. We stopped at this little cafe after reading reviews. We are pulling a travel trailer and wanted a small town where we could park easily. There is a large parking lot near the cafe. You have to get off the interstate and drive a couple of miles, but you also escape the din of interstate traffic! Very cute homey old fashioned decor. It's a small place, but we easily got a booth and got iced tea. I wanted omelette and French toast, so the waitress suggested that I do French toast in place of toast/hashbrowns. So I was thrilled. My husband got a cheeseburger and Home cut fries. We both enjoyed our meal a great deal. Since breakfast and lunch were served all day, we were each happy with our orders. Our favorite hometown restaurant. We've been regulars for five years now and it's great to be treated like family. The food is great, breakfast, lunch and dinner. And I always say it's about as Mayberry RFD as you're going to get. That's what I love about it. Suggestions: all the burgers are great my favorite is the Hawaiian. I had a mushroom swiss burger and it was tender and delicious. The mushrooms were rich in flavor and it made me want more! The homemade fries were also very tasty with just the right seasoning. The building itself is a little outdated I feel like if they remodeled it would be five stars although I understand it's a home type vibe. It has so much potential with the small space. read more

This cafe was such a fun stop on our drive! We enjoyed chatting with the employees (sorry didn't get your names.) The pancakes were the best we have ever had!! The omelette had so much meat and veggies I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was for all the food. They were accommodating to requests as well. The breakfast burrito was amazing with veggies smothered with a yummy gravy. This little cafe is fantastic. We got a hot tip to stop here on our way from Portland to Boise. H&P Cafe is the first thing you see when you get into the tiny historic Main Street of Echo. We ordered some burgers, which were excellent, piled high with fresh veggies and came with fresh and delicious, home-cut fries. For dessert we ordered an Oregon berry cobbler which was also excellent. Top-notch, home-cooked diner food served by a very friendly and hospitable family. The owner, Mike, is very gracious, and he's happy to tell you all about the dishes he serves. Highly recommended. I don't care what restaurant it is but you need TWO public bathrooms and big enough so your not banging your elbows on the walls. Amazing food! My hamburger steak was perfect, brown gravy was perfect thickness and beefy but not fake beefy. The onion rings my boyfriend got were the best I've ever had.
