This is a nice stop if you are traveling on I84 and are in need of some food. Our stop consisted of breakfast. I had the Chorizo Burrito while my wife had the pancake, egg, and bacon combo. The burrito was good but could have been improved with some cheese. Otherwise the meat was tasty and it was a very generous size. The side of salsa was also fresh and tasty. The pancakes were good and I am told the egg was cooked to perfection and the bacon also was a hit. Service was quick and attentive which was difficult due to how busy it was during our visit. The servers did a nice job. Nothing fancy about the interior. Several 4 person no-nonsense tables that are suited to get you in and out. Pricing is a bit steep but they are really the only gig in town. Would definitely stop again if the need arose. read more

There are very few places to eat close to the interstate. I was glad to see this place. Of course during these trying times I was limited to carry out. While I wasn't even sure if it was open, The building is clean and bright inside. I ordered an Omelet and hashbrowns with sourdough toast. I was the only person in there beside the young lady at the front counter and the young lady that was at the grill. 2 other folks ordered separately several minuets after I ordered. To my surprise they both received their food before I did. After waiting for several more minutes I politely asked if my order had been forgotten and when the young lady finally looked up from her phone. She said she didn't know. Apparently my order was misplaced or forgotten. I waited for a very long time to receive my food and it was not good at all. It was a Denver scramble (kinda) I ordered a Denver Omelet . The toast was not Sour Dough and the hashbrowns were under cooked and barely warm. Looking back, I guess that I should have ordered the Chorizo Burrito that everyone raves about. Perhaps they were under staffed or maybe the girls were having a bad day? Regardless, I will skip this cafe and go elsewhere. read more

Boardman is a very small town along highway 84. I've been working on a construction project out at the power plant, and there aren't a lot of choices for breakfast in town. My hotel's idea of a continental breakfast is water, OJ, bagels, and "sandwich rounds". (blech) So we went across the highway to the the Sunrise Cafe. It's a great little place for breakfast. And I have eaten there numerous times on my way out to the jobsite. They have your basic breakfast selection: eggs, sausages, bacon, steak, pancakes, hashbrowns, etc. The food is good and filling, at very fair prices. I have always received friendly and prompt service, and look forward to returning again! read more

We stopped in after reading a few reviews here on Yelp. There was nothing at all remarkable about this establishment. Our server was young and we are guessing had to be very new at her job. She was very sweet and polite but could definitely put some pep in her step. The food was barely warm and somewhat bland. My recommendation is to try another cafe somewhere along the way. read more

This place is a mixed bag. Not desiring the Continental breakfast from the motel, I looked forward to a good breakfast from a local dinner. Yelp reviews looked decent, complaint about salty ham .... Whaaat??? The coffee cup with biblical love passage was nice. It didn't take too long to place our order, and food was prepared promptly. As far as the food, I would rate a 5 for taste and quality. I had the classic breakfast, 2 eggs, hash browns, English Muffins, and I opted for the bacon. The bacon was thick, great smoked flavor, and nearly 4 generous slices. The facility was clean and inviting. The restroom was super clean. I get the feeling management cares and takes pride in this diner. At $11.25 for the classic breakfast, I would have expected a little more hash browns, but for my appetite and concerns for waistline, it was about right for me personally. At these prices, they should have half & half, not Coffee Mate packets. As for the service, there was a weird vibe. There was only one waitress, and she has a ways to go on friendliness and efficiency. Normally, the first thing you are asked is if you want coffee; however, after waiting a considerable amount of time, I asked if we could get some coffee. Instead of saying yes, she indicated it would be some time. Then she only brought one coffee. Although the restaurant thinned out, it was a hassle to get her attention to get refills on our coffee. Another oddity was the sign above the cash register, something to the effect you get the service appropriate to your attitude. The thing that knocked my review from a 4 to a 3, was the $1.00 service charge for using my credit card. They are already charging premium prices, the service charge is a kick in the butt on the way out. Finally, if you want a good breakfast, don't worry, you will get a good breakfast. At the end of the day, The Sunrise is an impressive hit, unfortunately, when you think it is a home run, the ball drifts and fouls right. read more

On the long highway 84 route from Portland to east OR., there are few places to stop, and the highway is boring, I am sorry to say. We usually stop at Boardman to fill up. And this time we found a delightful cafe. It is spotless, the service attentive, and the food was very good. We had breakfast, the usual eggs, hash-browns, and sausage. It was good, not anything inventive, just good food. There aren't many choices along this stretch of the road, so the ease of getting in and out and having good food in a clean environment and attentive service was a real plus. Karen was our server, and she did a good job just attentive enough. The only minus I would say is the TV on at a level that is just too high. I don't want to watch TV while I eat, and I don't see the need for it. Background music at a soft level is fine, if you must have some noise, not TV. read more

There are a few reasons to dine here, but "food" is not one of the reasons. (The food served here is passable, but very bland and boring.) The first reason to dine here is that it is *not* the C&D, which is always a zoo. The second reason to dine here is that it is locally owned and staffed, not a chain. The third reason to dine here is that it has free WiFi. After dining here though, you'll have wished you had not. Why this place is even still in business is mystery to me. The sullen, high-school-aged server seriously needs to be re-trained in her job (by anyone *other* than whomever trained her initially); it's as if she had never seen a *real* server in real life; she thinks all she has to do is bring out the plates and ignore the customer until it is time for the bill. Watch the customer! Anticipate their needs. Refill their beverage without being asked to! Bring more napkins! Pay attention. You only have one job and the place isn't exactly busy. Asking "can I get you anything else" is not sufficient!! Seriously!) They also need to ditch that loud television! (What are they thinking? Why even have it on at all? Nobody is watching it! Unless there is news, weather or an important sporting event, keep it turned OFF) If the staff tried to make a customer feel the least bit welcome, they might not continually have so many empty tables. I have given them about a half-dozen chances, but the next time I may put up with the long lines and high prices at the C&D. Note: on the other side of the highway are some Taco Trucks, should you want some actual flavor in your food. Or, you could eat at the Mexican restaurant 50 yards away, right next to the motel. I had some breakfast here and it was truly delicious. It was my first time coming here and I was very impressed with the food and customer service. The prices are a little high and the final bill was a little too much for what I ordered but it was really tasty so it was worth it. Have only been there once as I do not live in this town. the food is terrible the first time I ordered the pancakes with eggs, hashbrowns bacon, and 1 slice of toast the pancakes were terrible i can definitely tell the pancakes are made out of bisquick batter because of the awful taste of under cooked biscuit the pancakes were falling apart and not fully cooked. I decided to never to go again but my mom said I should give them a second chance. I did and I regret doing it the pancakes still fell apart and tasted awful not real pancake batter it was bisquick and really expensive they charged me 30 dollars terrible. I honestly ever since I ate there I now cant eat a pancake it was that bad. I do not recommend this place dont waste your money read more

Boardman, Oregon does not offer many options for dining...so for what is available and affordable, Sunshine is pretty good. I would recommend the Ruben Sandwich. You must request thousand island dressing because this establishment doesn't include it on the sandwich. Which is weird for two reasons, 1. Thousand island dressing completes a Ruben recipe, classically speaking. 2. their idea of Thousand Island dressing is actually fry sauce. The Breakfast burritos are good also. read more

Wow! What a pleasant surprise. We decided we were hungry too late to stop in Pendleton, so we stopped in Boardman. We did not have high expectations based on the other reviews, but they had road food, do we checked out the Sunrise Cafe. The taco soup was outstanding! Had we not also ordered sandwiches, we would have had just soup. Loaded with veggies and beans and topped with sour cream, cheese and tortilla strips. The hot roast beef sandwich was like I remember from many cross country road trips as a kid. Real mashed potatoes and tasty roast beef. Hubby said his rodeo burger was excellent also.
