You must have their carne asada with shrimp. The meat was nice and juicy and their shrimp with mushrooms actually had flavor in them. I felt I was back home in California. You must and I mean MUST! We stopped here while on a road trip and left well fed and cared for. The service was friendly while still giving us space to enjoy each other's company. While the ambiance is humble, the food is the star. The chips were fresh, the cabbage salsa was tasty, and the guacamole was well seasoned. I enjoyed the lunch special pork burrito which was the chile verde meat with a side of beans and rice. My husband had a ground beef burrito and said it was delicious. I read the reviews so I know they can sometimes serve terrific Mexican food, but our two dinners were served almost cold, the chips weren't fresh, the guacamole bowl was broken, and the salsa wasn't tasty. We stopped her to pick up food to go for a long driving trip. My husband ordered the Guadalajara burrito and I ordered the fajita burrito with the peppers and onions super well cooked. The Guadalajara burrito and side of rice and bean were very good except the beef was only ground beef. My husband would not have ordered that if he knew that. It was a huge plate of food for a good price. My fajitas burrito was ok. They did not cook the peppers and onions well done. The chicken was tasty in the burrito but otherwise it was boring. They put the rice and beans on the plate instead of on the burrito. The whole beans were delicious and the rice was plain and watery. Again, it was a huge plate of food. I stopped in the morning and had a steak burrito which was fantastic but when I went in the evening, I had the fajita rancheros Made with bacon wrapped shrimp and beef and optional extra spicy. This is a real Mexican restaurant with great tex-mex food. Avoid the other places in Boardman, where they serve Taco Bell-style tortillas that are unnatural and appalling. Macarios serves up great carne asada tacos with two sauces plus pico de gallo (their version has cabbage, or, in Spanish, "repollo," so you can make a joke about the again-chicken). read more

Lacking is the word that keeps coming up when trying to describe our experience. Three stars is generous, 2.5 would be more accurate. I'm trying really hard to find the positives and all I came up with was the cheese enchilada and the pleasant wait staff. The chicken deluxe enchilada had dry chicken that was bland, as if the flavor and moisture had been boiled out of it. Chile relleno was more like a green Chile omelette and lacked excitement and flavor. Chalupa had a nice flaky shell but the ground beef tasted strange. Some reviews had mentioned generous portions so I'm thinking maybe we came on an off night because our portions were not generous, and the meal was not a value. read more

I was in Boardman for the day for work and wanted to grab some lunch before heading home. I'd been to this place before and had good food so glad I remembered it... I grabbed a lunch special pork burrito and man was it tasty! The meat was tender and the seasoning was fantastic. Beans and rice were basic but really good, came with a whole bag of homemade chips and a couple different types of salsa. I live in a city with many Mexican joints, this seems to be the only one in Boardman. If it was in my town I'd probably crave it. You're lucky Boardman. ps The people are really nice too. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. The outside doesn't look too inviting but the food is GREAT!!! It tastes like Mama or grandma must be in back cooking. When eating at a local 'hole-in-the-wall,' I never know what to expect. But, I am always expecting something very good. When the restaurant isn't too fancy, but is popular with the locals then it's a pretty good bet the food will be delicious. Macario's totally meets this description. I am not being disrespectful calling it a 'hole-in-the-wall.' The staff are speedy, courteous, and attentive. 5 or 6 pages to the menu featuring all of the expected standards in a Mexican menu. Everything is fresh and housemade. The fiesta ware is bright and gives the food the best presentation. The restaurant is clean and well-worn. Lunch menu is very reasonable. $7.75 for most plates, holding more food than either of us could finish. read more

Traveling between Pendleton and Portland, Oregon, I decided to check Yelp for a restaurant along the way. I saw the reviews were good, and Mexican food sounded good so we made the stop. The outside looks like a neighborhood convenience store in the middle of an industrial area. When we pulled up my husband asked if I was sure I even wanted to go in...but because of the good ratings we went in. We were both pleasantly surprised when we walked in and it was a very clean, quaint little place. The service was very good and quick, which was an added plus for us since we had a long drive ahead of us. We decided to share the Guadalajara chicken burrito with beans and rice on the side. It was delicious! We were already enjoying the chips and salsa as well as the cabbage salsa so we were not surprised that the portion was plenty for two and very tasty. Good food, clean restaurant and bathrooms, friendly and prompt service and a full lunch for 2 under $15! Can't ask for more than that! I was traveling, and just going through Boardman early this summer. I used Yelp to look up the best place to eat, and while there weren't many options, I found MacArios to be delicious, friendly and clean! First off, margaritas are only $4.75 here. And they are Large (the capitol 'l' is needed)! That is the cheapest I've ever seen a margarita be and frankly it was yummy! I don't feel like the cheaper cost meant cheaper ingrediants--so I give two solid thumbs up for that fact alone. When it comes to the food I was not disappointed. I ordered the shrimp in diablo sauce (the dish I always choose when trying a new Mexican restaurant) and I was fully satisfied. The onions were cooked perfectly, the shrimp were tender, and the sauce was appropriately hot. I also found the beans to be delicious, and to me they didn't taste like they were from a can. The rice was very underwhelming but I don't particularly care about rice so it didn't bother me too much. The only thing that I'd say I didn't like was that the addition of one scoop of guacamole for my dish cost $2. An avocado is, at most, $1 and I definitely didn't get a whole avocado's worth of guacamole. Plus, guac was included in almost every other dish in that section (and yet the dish still cost the same amount) and so for me I found this a big hard to take. As for service I was completely happy. My waitress was nice and answered all my questions without getting frustrated or being short/snippy. And the environment is very clean and warm feeling, which I really liked. Overall I would definitely go here again. So the next time I'm around Boardman you can be sure I'll be heading over here! read more
