Stopped in about a week ago on the way to Walla Walla for lunch. First time in the off season, so they had a couple of seasonal beers to try. All of their beers are great, headlined by the Huckleberry Wheat! Food was very satisfying and reasonably priced. The also had 25oz crowlers prefilled to speed up takeout. Craft breweries are hard to come by in NE Oregon, so make sure to take advantage of this one! read more

The space is cool, there's plenty of seating for larger groups or just for you and a friend. Was underwhelmed by the food, we got wings and a burger and it just lacked flavor. We've come by a few times, it was always closed. Finally got in on an overnight stay in Pendleton. Service was good, Summer did a fine job. The squeeze and I split the cheesesteak samminch with provolone. Plenty of tasty meat, onions and peppers. We both got side salads which were good. Beers were $5 a pint. The Ella IPA was very tasty. Thanks to Yelp we found this great brewery on the way thru OR. Downtown Pendelton is a cool historical town with cute shops and architecture. They offer indoor and outdoor seating with high ceilings. I was happy to have a tasty Rueben done right on good rye bread with tasty kraut and stacked pastrami. Unfortunately, the fries must not been cooked in hot enough oil. They looked good but held too much grease (were kinda cold) nothing hotter oil couldn't fix though. Only had one beer at lunch but man you can tell it's solid. The RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION RED, was perfect malt to hop ratios. My hubby loved their IPA. (they have a couple) This will definitely be on my radar to stop back when passing through. We came by Prodigal Son to pick up Mr. Wonderful's race packet. Once we entered, we knew we'd be enjoying their food offerings. Spacious, welcoming environment - well lit and clean. Ella was our waitress and just by watching- we noticed she was taking care of the entire restaurant! She was friendly and efficient. Mr. wonderful. ordered the Pit Boss and it was cooked perfection. I had a patty melt, and it was equally as good. The sweet potato fries are what did it for me, they were perfect! We also wanted to give a shout out to Reannah who was very detail oriented in handling the entire bar area by herself - with so many beer orders! Great job ladies, you do this business proud! I frequently drive through Pendleton on the way to visit family and I'm always on the hunt for a decent meal in that area as it is a nice middle of the trip stopping point. My hubby and I grabbed lunch here on a Wednesday in April and it had a decent lunch crowd. There were many tempting options on the menu. The ambiance was historic and casual, the service was friendly and our food was ready in a timely manner. While this isn't a super fast stop, the food was great and it's not super far off of I-84 so I would definitely keep this option on the list! read more

Came on a Sunday afternoon on our way back from Boise to Portland. Our server was great and overall the food was way above par for a brew pub. Husband had the Ruben and said it was really good. I really loved their hand dipped onion rings. I had never tried fried cauliflower. It was amazing. I had the Cali taco which is calamari. I love calamari and tacos and thought it would be great, but it just was an odd combination. I was honest with my server and told him I wasn't liking it and he immediately replaced it and I had an amazing Cuban sandwich which I did not get a picture of would definitely come back and would recommend! Most brew pubs are mediocre at best. This one is probably the best brew pub I've been to. read more

Food is pretty decent. 40 minute wait to get it? When you're on the road? Less so. The chicken tenders were good. The brisket sandwich was in tough cubes on Texas toast. A bit harder to eat than sliced. Salad with it was excellent. Beers on tap were good, too. Service was pleasant but slow. We ate outside. I passed through the dancing flies by the inside door. The salad (sporting several heirloom Cherry tomatoes), house made tomato soup, sauteed mushrooms , smoked brisket sandwich, ale buttermilk battered onion rings... all super delish! Then there were a mass of mediocre processed 'tots'. Super bummer let down. Why not oiled and foiled baked potatoes, plopped down on its own small plate, split and doused liberally with butter, sour cream and a smattering of sliced scallion? The world will thank you for it. Inside out: I can't say much for parking because we walked, the building inside and out is eclectic and fun. I love their variety of tables, the lighting, the decorations, and just about everything they did. Service: it was a busy weekend and I think the servers were a little frayed but they did a great job. My grandma is 89 years old and I think they got it confused a few times, at no point were they rude or unwelcoming or impatient. Food/drinks: you can get a variety of sizes of beer to try a couple things, they had a bunch of mixed drinks. My grandma loved her margarita (it was strong so we ended up splitting it, delicious.) I make my wife stop here on the way home quite often. I have had good food here in the past but the quality has gone downhill considerably , and , she says she will not eat there again. We very much enjoy the setting but today even that was not very good. The beer list at the table had food stuck to it and one of the chairs had food on it. My wife ordered a salad that was close to $20 and we've had better salads from a bag in a store. The server brought the salad with no dressing and the ratio of cheese (said feta on the menu but it was not) and cranberries was way to heavy handed and there was little effort to make it presentable. My sweet potato fries were not hot and my burger was mediocre at best. Just toasting the bun would have made it seem a little better maybe? The service was very slow the server came to check on our meal and asked, "Is everything tasting okay? Can I bring you anything else?" Without any hesitation between the two questions. As she asked the first question I could tell my wife wanted to say something but it was evident that there was no real concern. The server was acting the role to be friendly but really didn't seem to care. I do like your beer selection but we really need good food and great service to make it worth stopping! read more

Very good sandwiches and (as you'd expect), a good beer selection. But honestly the best part of the Prodigal Son is the atmosphere. This is funky old building and it was just cool to grab a table and feel like you were having dinner in the middle of the Old West. But back to my sandwich. It wasn't over sauced (a particularly pet peeve of mine). The veg was crisp, turkey flavorful and the fries on the side weren't a meal into themselves. Definitely worth ordering! read more

If you read my reviews, you know I rarely give lower than a 5 or 4... however.... A friend and myself went to check out "The Prodigal Son Brewery and Pub" based on verbal recommendations of friends in the Walla Walla area... I am used to "Mc Menamins" type establishments and thought this sounded like "a want to be", which I would love! The place was very fun and funky, neat and tidy, with an great adult beverage list. You can image my surprise when the XL table in the center of the dinning area was set up for a toddlers birthday party. But, in Pendleton, you don't have as much to choose from. I have to give them a big thumbs up for serving Blue Mountain cider! The menu selections/prices were very much like Mc Menamins. My friend ordered the $14.00 Veggie Burger plate w/french fries. She loves spicy food and found the burger to be bland, it was fine for my taste. The bad part was it was way over cooked (almost black) on the outside, her natural cut fries were also over done to a dark brown. The serving of fires and burger/bun size were good, the topping looked great! It was all arranged nicely on a big dinner plate. My friend rated her lunch a 3, I think she eats too many spicy things... LOL! I thought it was a 4 and would have been a 5 if cooked less done. I ordered the "famous" $9.00 Mac and Cheese, expecting to get a large creamy bowl of tender pasta drowning in a creamy cheese sauce topped with melted gooey cheese. I opted for the $1 addition of asparagus. I was very disappointed! The small rimmed soup bowl was hot out of the oven. It only held about a heaping cup of dry looking elbow macaroni with an over warmed thin hard thin layer of cheese. The sauce was so scarce that the noodles fell apart from each other. They had cut what appeared to be one asparagus spear into seven or eight 3/4 inch pieces. Most of them were the inedible woody stem, that should have been snapped off. There was nothing else, no bread, no under plate... just a small $9.00 bowl of cheese flavored noodles! We both rated my lunch a 2, based on the small portion and lack of sauce. The wait staff, although friendly, were hard to determine as some of them wore the cute house T-shits and some did not. They were busy with several large tables, who arrived after we received our order. The staff manged to keep our drinks full, food delivered hot, and table bused. We decided to give them one more chance and ordered dessert..... We both ordered the Daily $7.00 Cheesecake Bar. Today was an Orange and Grand Marnier on a vanilla short bread crust, topped with Chantilly cream. The bars were of fair size for the price. The light yellow-green bars were creamy and moist, the pale crust was tender, topped with a good sized scoop of Chantilly cream. The Chantilly cream was a bit over beaten and just starting to have a bit of whipped butter texture. I believe the cream could have been beaten less and a bit sweeter for my taste. The cheesecake layer was a great cold creamy texture, but, again I personally would have liked it to have a stronger Orange and Grand Marnier flavor. My friend rated it a 5 as she like very lightly sweetened desserts, I like things to be average in sweetness and give it a 4.75 over all! (I know, where are the food photos, my phone was acting up, sorry!) ................Menu descriptions.................. DR. PRAEGER'S VEGGIE PATTY.....11.50 Vegan, all-vegetable patty, served with mayo, lettuce, tomato and shaved red on a toasted bun. Add Swiss, Tillamook cheddar, blue cheese, feta, or pepper jack; sauteed mushrooms or roasted jalapeños.....1 (each) Add bacon.....2 MAC & CHEESE..... 9 Oven-baked macaroni and creamy cheese sauce with jack. cheddar and Swiss Add bacon, chicken, jalapeños or seasonal veggies..... 1 (each) CHEESECAKE BAR.....7 Rich cheesecake baked on a shortbread cookie bar. Ask you server about today's flavors. Over all, I really wanted this place to have better food as it has a nice large dinning area, quaint bar, great outdoor seating, nice clean bathrooms, pleasing curb appeal, and waitstaff who truly try to please. I may try them again in the fall and will update my review if they improve. I hope my review will only help them to improve on what is a fun and funky pub and a great place to visit. read more

I had the Jayne's Melt special- braised pork belly with kimchi, marinated shiitake mushrooms, walla walla smoked Gouda on sour dough with homemade coleslaw - just fantastic!
