A go to breakfast spot! The gravy is amazing as is their pork chop breakfast! Portion sizes are huge and the quality is always great!

Such a wonderful restaurant on the edge of Wallowa Lake! The…read moresweet couple who run the restaurant, Michael & Dionne, are second generation owner/operators, and oh so kind! From the moment we walked in, Michael asked the last name on the reservation and had memorized first when we told him. Vali's does one meal per evening, from 6pm-8pm and requires reservations. Everyone is served the same meal, with the only option variations being in drinks and the dessert you choose. The meal include appetizers, main course, and dessert. They have a menu that varies week to week, but that is always delicious! Tonight we enjoyed pork schnitzel, red cabbage, and au gratin potatoes! The pork schnitzel was perfectly tender with a crispy crust, the red cabbage cooked JUST right with a perfect amount of sweetness, and the au gratin potatoes were nice & cheesy! Our dessert options were between Pistachio Creme Brulee with Cherries, Chocolate Ginache, or Apple Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream. My Pistachio Creme Brulee was AMAZING, as was my wife's Apple Cobbler! The entire meal is such a personal experience, hosted by this wonderful couple that you KNOW want you to have the best experience possible. We didn't get to speak with Dionne, just received a kind wave from the kitchen, with a "Thank you for coming in!" I'd love to have Dionne come out from the kitchen to socialize after the desserts have been served! She seemed very sweet. All in all, I can't recommend this place enough. There was a table of eight, with four generations, that said they'd been coming annually for many years, and I can't blame them. Vali's and Wallowa Lake are a long drive from most places, but are both worth the drive. Exquisite scenery, wonderful people, and remarkable food!

If you don't like what they are serving that day, call ahead to see if they can substitute. They do homemade donuts as well but it gets booked up. Very good! I'd recommend going!

We ran into a glitch with our gift card (we had the confirmation email but not the digital card) and after unsuccessfully trying to figure out how to make it work, the manager, who was great, told us not to worry about it and they would cover the meal. (Fortunately we were finally able to access the card and pay.)

Super thrilled for a good steak, we chose the Depot. Only to be utterly disappointed. :( If you are watching your sodium intake DO NOT order the grilled brussel sprouts, or French onion soup! This restaurant has a quaint passenger car outside for a nice touch but not open for service today. The interior of the restaurant was nice brick with good ambience. The servers looked the part but the hostess took 20min to seat us while she scarfed down some food within eye shot of us while we stood waiting. It was cringe to see line cooks and chefs with their loose hair flapping everywhere! I was wondering how the college looking kid could even see what he was cooking with his straggly grungy curly hair all over his face and over his eyes. He was cooking the carrots. We were sat at the bar, service was fast, so I will give them that. We were a bit confused as to who exactly our sever was as there were three but didn't technically introduce themselves. We ordered crab cakes, grilled brussel sprouts, French onion soup, and shared the 18 oz. rib eye with two sides, mashed potatoes and grilled carrots. The rib eye was the thinnest cut we have ever seen. The soup was extremely salty, so I only took a few bites. The brussel sprouts were charred black and no longer green. The burnt taste was disgusting. The mustard they paired them with did not do it any favors. There are 3 crab cakes to an order, alone the cakes were edible but they laid them over a smear of some nasty flavorless oily mayo sauce. They paired them with thinly julienned apples which were yummy for the few strands that did not touch the mayo spread. We got mashed potatoes which were bland, hubby did not eat his and I only took a couple bites of mine. We love grilled carrots especially when cooked in small cast iron dish but these carrots were paired with some funky cream sauce that looked like sour cream but cannot describe what it was. Carrots would've been nice if they didn't over power with rosemary or thyme. They failed to mention the huge service charge that they added to our ticket which was $32 onto our $212.00 tab. Our server even asked if we were interested in leaving an additional tip for the server that poured our water. Nope! We won't be back anytime soon. Hope it's a better experience for others.
