I will give this place a second star because the woman on the phone was friendly. However, the food wasn't great AND I got sick. We were so hungry, so we ordered a ton of food. The restaurant not only consisted of Chinese food, but Japanese. My boys love sushi, so we ordered 3 different rolls. We loved it!! Probably the best Chinese restaurant experience I have had. The sweet n sour chicken was awesome - breading in the chicken was perfect. I got mine with fried rice and it was worth the extra charge. Tonya loved the Las Vegas roll and General Tso's chicken. I helped with the chicken and liked it too. Portions were very ample as we had to take extras home. Tried this place because it had good ratings on Yelp. I drove a little further than I wanted to try this place. Honestly, it probably has good Chinese food, but the Sushi is mediocre at best. Not very fresh, and not very flavorful. Maybe they only have Sushi for the novelty. It looked pretty, but lacked flavor and freshness. The CJ roll was flavorless, the sashimi plate was decent but the salmon was slimy, and the mixed sunomono was gross. Next time I'll try the Chinese, if I return (not likely). read more

I got the chicken fried rice after reading some of the reviews, also got vegetable fried rice, both were very good. Father-in-law ordered garlic shrimp, said it was the best shrimp he had ever eaten! The staff are super friendly and understanding to any accommodations you might need and they are fast workers. While in Dayton for a half day; I was in need of some carry out to bring to a local brewery. My kids wanted Sushi and Yelp helped me find CJ Chan. It is located in a strip mall type area and isn't much to see from the outside. But once inside, this quaint restaurant has a ton of charm. I ordered a few basic rolls and lo mein. I loved how they offered basic rolls for around $5 and larger rolls $10+; it gives you lots of options. My carry out order was fulfilled really fast and the staff was super friendly. The sushi was well made and rolled tight so they don't fall apart. Flavor was really good. The lo mein was a little too salty for me but I tend to be sensitive to salt. I think I found my new place for Chinese food. This was the best I have had for awhile. I have tried the General Tso's, Orange Chicken and Beef Lo Mein. We were having a lazy night in and decided to order take out. I had never had CJ Chan's but my boyfriend had had it from time to time. The restaurant looked closed when we pulled up but had our food ready for us in about fifteen minutes. I ordered the General Tso tofu. My boyfriend had broccoli chicken. My meal was sweet. Sometimes General Tso is spicy. I kind of like that. Not that this was bad. Just not what I was expecting. Very little broccoli. But pretty good. My boyfriend really, REALLY liked his. The sauce was apparently delicious and he adored it. My tofu was enough for me to freeze. I think I'll have one, maybe two more meals out of it, so I think it's shareable. The broccoli chicken was, it seems, not shareable. Overall, totally worth the money and great for a quick meal. Update: we've eaten take out from CJ Chan a few times. This last time both our orders came with tiny orders of rice. The containers weren't full. Rice is cheap so that seemed like a silly place to skimp. This is a wonderful place to not only have Chinese dishes but also nice Japanese dishes. The sushi is great and would recommend the bento boxes as it offers a wide variety of foods, you can choose different bento boxes to suit your appetite. But again the sushi is fresh and delicatable, I'm from Japan and know my fish. It's a clean nice atmosphere and nice to sit and enjoy dinner. Also, got to try the seafood hotpot! This is the best Chinese restaurant in the greater Dayton area. The staff is extremely friendly, the environment is clean, and the food comes out amazingly fast. This visit I had the General Tso's Combination Plate and the amount of food I got was unreal. The portions are huge and you will need a to-go container. The chicken was delicious and the pork fried rice was complimented it all perfectly. If you like Chinese food or are looking to experiment with great food at very reasonable prices look no further. Oh so glad to have been introduced to this place by friends - I now have a go-to Chinese restaurant in Dayton. I don't eat Chinese very often, but when I do, I hope for all of the salty, umami goodness, the crunch of vegetables, and usually shrimp. This is a classic case of "do not judge a book by its cover". CJ Chan isn't much to look at on the inside or out, but I was pleasantly surprised by everything else. Both the food and the service were delightful. The portions were generous and prices low. Everything I tried was cooked expertly. It's really easy to get Chinese food wrong - sometimes it falls on the too greasy side or the vegetables are overcooked to the point of losing their crunch and nutritional value. Not the case here. Our table split several sushi rolls, and all were fresh and delicious. We also split the boneless spare ribs, and the portion was enormous, and this dish ended up being one of my favorites, much to my surprise. For my entree, I had the shrimp lo mein and it met all of my lo mein expectations. This is a great spot to meet friends. We were in Dayton just passing through. My daughter wanted Sushi and I wanted Chinese. Came across this place on Yelp that met both criteria so we checked it out. Small little place, but the food was great. We were there for luncha. My wife and daughter had their sushi lunch special and for $10 they had a nice helping of sushi and rolls. My wife enjoyed the sushi and would eat here again for that. I had my normal General Tso's chicken. This was one of the better versions I have had in a while. It had a nice little kick to it.
