Simple lunch outside, off the downtown square...good urban vibe. Nice patio that's shaded most of the day; too many flies around, which was gross. Quick service. Food: Seafood beignets were very good, like a much lighter and more flavorful crab rangoon. CBA (chicken/bacon/avocado) wrap was literally not bad. Exactly what I could eat at home, so it was mid. Nothing was out standing about it. Pretty boring. My side was crispy brussel sprouts which get a thumbs-up. These 3 items plus a soda came to $32.31, incl tax, but before tip. read more

Went to rt 66 festival CK had fish tacos special. First time there although I had heard this was a good place I don't normally go uptown. We had Onion rings as appetizer they are huge. The batter inside the rings was a little undercooked. Had fish tacos and pork belly tacos. Both very good. Pork tacos has a flavorful fruit salsa. Pork belly was very tender. I think this place is a must in Springfield, MO. They have good staff that are always friendly and helpful. They also have a great menu, every time I go I get the seafood beignets. The beignets are pretty big and they come with blueberry ketchup that is delicious. This past time I went I got the Bacon and Date Salad and I would highly recommend. The pecans that came on the salad were candied and so good. I also really liked how the balsamic dressing complimented the sweetness of the dates. My husband got the prime rib sandwich with onion rings. He said he really liked the sandwich and the onion rings were huge! Overall, I've never had a bad meal here! read more

Spent the night in Springfield, MO on our way driving from Phoenix to Michigan. ordered takeout from Civil Kitchen. The parking around this place is not good. I ordered chicken soup. the soup was so overly salty I could not eat it. my husband got a fish sandwich which he liked. for $42 this meal was not worth it. read more

Had the Bahn Mi tacos, the sauce was a little excessive, but it was good. If I ordered them again, I'd try it with sauce on the side and perhaps try the hot honey to complement the sweetness from the fruit, or some other spicy sauce. Brussel sprouts were excellent as well. I try the brussel sprouts at every restaurant I can and these did not disappoint. Service was great, it felt slow but that may be because it was a work lunch and my brain was in a hurry, The atmosphere was very casual and relaxing. Not busy for late lunch on a Tuesday. read more

This location had the honor of being our very first restaurant we tried in the area! This was on our list of eateries as it was both near our hotel and highly rated on Yelp! Went in and were seated on the entry side not too far from the hostess podium. They have two distinct sides that are broken by a hallway that has their bathrooms. Draft offerings were clearly visible on the main column on chalk signage. Menu has a good mix of options. We shared the crack bread appetizer (yes, get this), I had black n' bleu salad - steak had good seasoning, I recommend a different dressing than the orange vinaigrette and a glass of wine. Items came out pretty quickly and we enjoyed sitting and watching downtown action through the windows. Overall: A Good first restaurant experience in Springfield. They have a good drink variety and solid menu. read more

Came here for lunch after my second Covid shot. The food was good. Those crab beignets so unique with the blackberry drizzle and the honey dipping sauce, whoa. The blew my wig back. Delicious. The crispy kale was like eating chips! Yum Had the steak salad and it was really lovely and we had the maple bacon filet. The best part about the filet was the Brussel sprouts. Delicious lemony flash fried treats. The filets were over cooked and tough I asked for medium rare and got medium well. Ick. If I'm ever in the neighborhood again though I will be coming back for those crab beignets!!! read more

The ambiance was very nice, we were seated in the open-end of the restaurant near the fountain. I made a reservation and was seated immediately. The food was served hot. I really enjoyed my lunch here. The presentation of the dishes were very nice and neat. And came out fairly quick. The whipped feta was as expected but it needed another ingredient like honey or something sweet to enhance the flavors. Too fetay but good. Same with the sweet potato Brûlée. It was literally just mashed sweet potatoes with sugar on top. I would not order this as a side again. Maybe needed some pecans or maple syrup. IDK I'm not a chef. Lol. My waiter was slow. I had to keep waving him down which was annoying. But other than that very good. I would come again. read more

Placed an order for over $100 worth of food. The manager called and left a voice mail and told us he was out of two of our main entrées, but sent the rest. What are we supposed to do with the sides? But no entrées? Why wouldn't they ask us what we would want instead instead of omitting the main entrées and sending it incomplete ?We canceled the order and thank goodness door dash runs a better business than Civil Kitchen, imo-because they gave us a refund. I do not recommend this business in any capacity they seem to be completely incompetent. read more

I love this restaurant mainly for the great ambience, outdoor seating and trendy vibe. It's in downtown Springfield and is just a really fun place to go with high quality food choices and a variety of cocktails, wine and beer. The menu is limited, however, with some non-traditional options so it is wise to check the menu before arrival or you could just be eating the chicken strips (but the chicken strips are great). The service is always great and the restaurant takes pride in being able to converse with guests for a personal experience. read more

We are in town for a short period of time but happened upon civil kitchen- the area is very nice, already lit up with a bunch of lights. We sat at the bar, and didn't feel rushed the whole night. The place really did have a great atmosphere. We had a party of 8 and while our server was clearly new he also did quite well. The food, on the other hand, was extremely bland. Everything was cooked properly, but for a $16 sandwich, I'd think they could spring for some salt and pepper. The fish sandwich was just unseasoned breaded fish with a piece of cheese slice of onion, tomato and pickle. Basic pub food. read more

I took 7 of my family for lunch while we were in town for a highschool graduation.We checked in at 12:30pm with the hostess. It was about a 30 minute wait. That wasn't too bad, but almost half the tables were empty.. When we were able to get sat, we ordered 2 appetizers for the table right away. We got the appetizers about 25 minutes later, but still were not able to order drinks. The food was good, but the service was very much lacking. It should not take 2 hours in the middle of the afternoon to get lunch and a cpl beers from the time you sit down. I would say staffing was a big part, but still. Way too long. read more

Crack bread with balsamic dip is awesome and the chicken sandwich and prime rib sandwich will not disappoint. Generous portions with $5 steins of beer at happy hour. Started our night out on the town at Civil Kitchen because I heard about their unique menu items from a trusted friend of mine! She recommended we sit upstairs, it was much more laid back and less chaotic (no TVs, less tables etc.) than the main floor; which I always appreciate. The menu had a wide variety of options Chicken and Waffles, Chicken and Donuts, great salad choices and even Prime Rib! I chose the Apple, Bacon, Cheddar panini served on a waffle. It was good, but I definitely considered it more of a sandwich than a panini as the sandwich in its entirety isn't grilled or pressed. The flavors were great together but the waffle was a little overpowering for the other items. Loved it as an open face sandwich. Side was the signature Brussel Sprouts and I would absolutely recommend including them on your next visit. The beer selection was great! I did opt for a flight so I could try a variety of local brews and our waitress was wonderful when it came to suggestions. Love that they incorporate seasonal brews into their menu. The pumpkin ale was incredible and much lighter (to drink) than I was anticipating. It's worth a stop for a twist on some of America's favorites! read more

We were looking for a local eatery in Springfield. After viewing the menu we decided to give it a try. They have a happy hour until 6 pm where starters are 1/2 off. Crab Beignets, onion rings and roasted red pepper hummus worth a try. Good selection of draft beers and some pretty tasty frozen libations as well. I ordered chicken and donuts. They were wonderful. The chicken was breaded lightly and tender. The donuts had a orange glaze. Candies pecans and bacon. You or choice of sauces Bourbon maple and peanut butter maple. Both were delicious. I had some of the crispy Brussels sprouts and they were crunchy and tasty as well. Over all good food and a pleasant experience. read more

I walked in half expecting Civil to be another version of trolley's since I had gone there several times during college, I could not have been more wrong. The space has completely changed including a garage door that opens up the front of the building. The food was on the casual side but very delicious as I can't remember the last time I had hand breaded fried chicken. Ate at Civil the other day. And just WOW. I just can't even. Not even an odd. What great service. My server, Avery, was such a delight. I was eating a wrap and some mayo went out onto my lip. They tasted more like a lower-quality frozen product, which was a letdown. On the positive side, the service was excellent. Even with the restaurant getting busy and a live band setting up, the staff stayed friendly, attentive, and on top of everything. One thing to note is that we initially arrived around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, only to find out they weren't open and was told that something came up and they didnt open until 3:00 p.m. on this Sunday. Overall, I still enjoyed the atmosphere and appreciate the great service, but I hope the kitchen can get back to the food quality that made Lindberg's one of my favorite spots in the past.

It is not every day that one has the good fortune to encounter a proper establishment in which the atmosphere, the company, and the meal all combine so agreeably, but Jimms most certainly provided such an occasion. Upon entering, I was immediately pleased by the character of the establishment. There is something wonderfully comforting about a steakhouse and pub that possesses a sense of occasion without becoming tiresome or pretentious. One may settle oneself comfortably, converse at leisure, and look forward to a proper meal with the agreeable certainty that one has made a very sound decision indeed. Now, to the principal matter at hand: the food. I had the distinct pleasure of ordering the prime rib, and I can say without the slightest hesitation that I thoroughly, wholeheartedly, and almost embarrassingly enjoyed it. It was an absolute triumph. The sort of dish that arrives at the table and immediately commands one's attention, rendering all conversation temporarily secondary. The prime rib was wonderfully prepared, exceedingly satisfying, and possessed that magnificent quality which makes one pause between bites simply to appreciate what one has been fortunate enough to receive. Every bite was an absolute pleasure. The meat was tender, beautifully cooked, rich in flavour, and possessed precisely the hearty savoury character one hopes to encounter when ordering a proper piece of beef. It was indulgent without becoming excessive, substantial without being tiresome, and sufficiently splendid that I found myself wishing the portion might somehow defy the ordinary laws of appetite. Had the laws of polite society permitted me to continue eating indefinitely, I suspect I should have made a valiant attempt. The other gentleman in our party selected the New York strip steak, and I am delighted to report that his experience was equally successful. He thoroughly enjoyed his steak and spoke very highly of it throughout the meal. From what I observed, it was an exceedingly handsome specimen of beef, prepared with considerable care and possessing precisely the robust character one expects from a fine New York strip. There is something particularly gratifying about dining with companions when everyone at the table receives precisely what they had hoped for. No disappointed faces, no regrettable selections, and no solemn contemplation of the menu wondering where it all went wrong. Rather, we found ourselves enjoying our respective steaks immensely and exchanging the occasional approving remark between bites, which, in my estimation, is a rather reliable indication that the kitchen has done its duty admirably. Indeed, the meal was sufficiently good that one rather loses track of time. The conversation continues, the plates gradually empty, and before one knows it, one is sitting there contemplating whether ordering another course would constitute gluttony or merely demonstrate excellent judgement. I shall leave that philosophical question to wiser men, but I will say that Jimms certainly inspired the temptation. The entire experience had the pleasant quality of an evening one might very much wish to prolong, preferably with another glass of something agreeable and perhaps another helping, should one's dignity permit such extravagance. There are establishments where one eats because one is hungry, and there are establishments where one eats because the food itself becomes part of the evening. Jimms belongs firmly in the latter category. I should also commend the overall atmosphere. Jimms Steakhouse and Pub has that wonderfully comfortable quality which makes a meal feel like an occasion rather than merely an exercise in acquiring nourishment. It is the sort of place where one can settle in, enjoy one's company, take one's time over a proper meal, and allow the evening to unfold without feeling hurried. That quality is increasingly rare and, in my opinion, deserves considerable appreciation. Our meal was hearty, satisfying, memorable, and thoroughly enjoyable. The prime rib alone would have been sufficient reason for me to leave a favourable review, but the excellent New York strip enjoyed by my companion, coupled with the pleasant surroundings and the general success of the evening, made the occasion all the more worthwhile. I departed feeling exceedingly content, which is surely one of the highest compliments a restaurant can receive. There is a particular satisfaction in leaving a dining establishment with the firm conviction that the money spent, the time taken, and the appetite expended have all been put to excellent use. Such was precisely the case here. Would I return? Without question. Would I recommend Jimms? Most certainly.
