The guys at City Lock were super helpful today! I had bought some programmable key cases online, and they offered creative solutions and ideas to help make sure I got the most out of my keys, both of which they cut and re-programmed to function as remotes. The instructions I received from the online store to do this were ultra-confusing and it was worth it to have that part handled by people that do it all the time. Next time I will go there for the cases also! read more

So impressed with the service here. I've been coming to City Lock for years, but last week I needed some work done for my truck on a Sunday before I left for a road trip (my bad procrastinating) and he showed up and was enormously helpful in rigging out some parts to make the locks work despite not having what was needed in stock. They went out of their way, and I couldn't have been more grateful. Thanks city lock, for saving the day! read more

A really personable and knowledgeable locksmith he understood the problem with my car lock and attempted to repair it. The problem was not the lock and even though he did a lot of work he didn't charge me I highly recommend Jeff read more

Needed to get a key cut and buy a small safe for work. The man who helped me was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and willing to work with me, and even threw in the key-cutting with the price of the safe. No complaints here. read more

We called City Lock twice to get a quote to re-key an auto lock cylinder. Both times we were quoted $65. Today we went to City Lock and brought the cylinder with us for re-keying. When we were rung up we were told it would be $85. When we challenged Jeff about the two quotes of $65 he denied ever saying it and said his price was $85 period. This was for less than 1 hours work. This guy is pretty proud of what he does at $85 an hour. Call Kaiser Lock and Key instead! Per Jeff's retort - there was no confusion, we only called City and no one else. I went to City Lock with a key and ignition problem. My trusted mechanic recommended them. The owner was very helpful to me. He spent 20 minutes thoroughly researching the issue and found that it was not a key and ignition issue but something else, and gave me advice about what to do next. He did not charge me for his time. I felt that he was very helpful, thorough, and honest, and will go back to that shop for any of my key and lock needs from now on. read more

I had a great experience with City Lock! The gentleman that helped me was resourceful and generous. I needed a key replaced for my car and it was quick and easy. I highly recommend using City Lock! read more

This guy has a bad attitude and charged us $200 to do a minor repair on a lock. We will never use City Lock again. Given the unusual mix of 1 star and 5 star reviews I suspect the positive reviews were written by friends and family. (If he has friends...) read more

Not unless you absolutely have to...I needed something fairly different from your average new locks and keys for the house (If you ever buy a used car with only one key, be prepared to spend a bundle for a second key)...I get it, it's more complicated. After getting a dealer quote ($225) I went to City Lock and waited patiently behind the other customer getting a car key made and programmed. I also waited patiently while he helped an elderly gentleman who walked in after me and needed an appointment and new house keys...and waited some more because the software was being hinky that day and he couldn't get up and running. After an hour I gave him my phone number and asked him to call me when it was fixed; I would run errands for a while. He called me back THREE DAYS LATER to tell me I could come get my key made. Did I mention that his quote was $250 and not once did he offer an apology for the wait and hassle. I bought an OEM key on Amazon (that may or may not work) but the dealer said they would cut a key that I brought in as long as I understood that it may not work (Look for OEM and not just "compatible with"). I'm hoping it will work and I will let you know....but don't go to this guy! read more

I've had several good experiences with City Lock. Better prices and options than major car dealer, pretty quick, available on weekend, good quality well-working keys. read more

I went into the 30th street location and the gentleman was very friendly, profressional and more than willing to help. I had 2 keys copied, which took all of 3 minutes. Very pleased with the service and it is clear that their business can take care of a wide range of key/lock needs. I will be back in the future. read more

Excellent customer service! The man who owns City Lock is quirky enough to love locksmithing. I had an antique armoire to which I lost the key and he was the only person in the Boulder-Longmont area who had the equipment to make me a new key. He did the job in less time than he anticipated and called me as soon as it was done. Although a bit pricey, it was worth it. I highly recommend City Lock. read more

Great people with a great mentality. Always willing to help and always doing their best job they can! Always my go to guys, no doubt.

Happy to have found a locksmith in Boulder and would definitely recommend to others. Jeff was incredibly nice and helpful. It took him less than 5 minutes to unlock my faulty gas cap, and it became quite obvious to me that he really knows what he is doing. He even called the dealership for me to see if they had a new one to send me. Thanks again, will call you of I'm having key trouble in the future. read more

I went into the shop and asked the guy there to make two car keys that need the programming to work the ignition to my car. His computer would not program the new keys without re-programming all of my keys. When I asked to simply buy the cut, not programmed, keys that he made, he wanted me to pay $125. Unwilling to pay that much for keys that were not programmed, I asked him to just destroy them.... he charged me $50 to destroy the keys. He was not friendly and seemed somewhat angry. I paid the $50 because he has keys to my car and knows my address. I found out a few days later that home depot can do programmed keys without re-programming the whole set, without needing to enter your car.... It will be cheaper for you and you will not feel threatened to pay them to take nothing home. AVOID THIS BUSINESS! read more

I am surprised why nobody wrote a review here. I gave this guy five stars for what he could do with his technical skills, not necessarily his personal skills. The first impression was a little intimidating as he could lecture you as he apparently knows what he is doing. My car key could do everything except open the driver's side door, so I drove there and ask him to take a look. He said my key was wore out but I didn't believe. I asked him to make a copy of the key and he said NO. He suggested that he wouldn't do things in a wrong way, no matter how much money I would pay. After going home and finding the original key, I tried and found that key did open the car door which was thought to be broken. This fact instantly earned my respect, even though I felt a little offended by his lecture. After exchanging a few ideas, I thing he is quite likable and he is really helpful. He even offered to help to diagnose my "check engine" light and solved the problem. Take home message: He really knows what he is doing and he is doing the right way. PS: He might be too honest and sometimes can be a little awkward. He charges very reasonably, too. (To make a fresh new car key he charges 75 dollars, and program it for 50. while dealership price is about 200 as far as I know.) read more

Very helpful when I needed to have somebody figure out why my FOB wasn't working. Initially thought it would be a quick fix and after he had fixed it, didn't charge me. After we realized that it wasn't a permanent fix, he gave me a lot of good information and instead of trying to sell me something expensive that he wasn't sure would work, he made an appropriate referral the dealership. Very helpful, would highly recommend this business! read more

I called this guy on a Saturday and he picked up the phone answering with his business name. I told him what I needed and asked for a ball park figure. He refused to give me one and said that he had just gotten out of the shower on a holiday weekend and therefore he was unable to give me a price. When I told him that was too much information for me as a customer, he continued to talk over me to tell me how much I had inconvenienced him. read more

I've used City Lock several times over the last six years to make copies of keys and pop locks on my house and truck, etc. They are always pretty quick, and they have basic simple keys behind the counter, I never mess with the pretty displayed keys in the showroom, but I have bought a set of keyed locks for my trailer and storage unit, the are the best locks I've ever purchased. I've never got a bad key from these guys like I have from other key cutters. They also made extra keys for my truck which was way cheaper than going to the dealership. They really know their technology when it comes to chipped keys, I appreciate the technology they are using, also ensuring my security. They also provided me a skeleton key for my truck with a card with the code so I can easily have another made if I loose the chipped key. They have a nicely labeled mobile truck very identifiable and trustworthy, you know its not some creep picking locks, this is the most professional service in Boulder. Women you don't have to be worried, this company is legit and they don't open locks unless you have proof you should be let in. I've used a few other locksmiths around this area in the decade I've been around Boulder, but this one by far is superior. They don't beat around the bush and the owner straight-up Back East style, direct, up front and won't quote you a price and then raise it later, there is no bait-and-switch here. read more

Have a Mazda 5 and the key finally had to be replaced - unfortunately I had to get towed! Arg- you apparently can't go to the Ace Hardware for a car key anymore. By chance I was referred to City Lock - good luck for me! Super knowledgeable about ignition key replacement and super helpful. Price was pretty reasonable and lower than the average dealer cost by far. Ask for Jeff. read more

Awesome - stayed open on a Sunday for me to bring in locks to rekey. Tried a soft-sell on new locks but dropped it when I told him I wasn't ready to swap out all the locks. Talked my ear off the whole time but didn't upcharge me for the off-day - price was right inline with the competition. read more

Great service, great experience. The only place for Boulder (and surrounding area) residents to go. The owner's name is Jeff and he was more than helpful. I needed to replace a mailbox lock and not only did he have exactly what I needed in stock, he explained how to replace it. And, when I ruined one lock, he gave me another at no charge. I'd highly recommend City Lock. read more

I entered this establishment to get keys cut for a 15 year old vehicle. The person at the counter started the conversation with with a noticeable east coast accent "whatta ya want" ? I replied that I would like to have extra keys cut for my vehicle as I placed the original and blanks on the counter in front of him. He frowned, grabbed them up and silently walked away. It was followed by a very short, rude and condescending explanation of the process and how much it would cost me. I decided immediately that I don't ever want to do business with this guy and this (his?) business. I highly recommend that you don't either. Unless you're from Boston, Brooklyn etc. Then, I guess, you like being treated that way because it's normal. read more

Brought in an upper, keyed lock for an older door. Wanted to keep the metal surround, but substitute a deadbolt for the beveled latch. Also, wanted it rekeyed for Kwikset. Was told that no deadbolt latch would fit, and the cylinder would have to be replace for a Kwikset key. Left and went to Buffalo Lock & Key, and (1) existing cylinder was rekeyed for Kwikset, and (2) part was ordered to convert the existing latch to a deadbolt, something City Lock didn't suggest. Next time I'll skip the stop at City Lock. They may do good work (don't know), but they lack imagination. read more

I always use City Lock for my lock and key needs. Last week I took in a suitcase that TSA at the airport had placed someone else's lock on, and the owner was able to remove it for me in no time. Another time I had a very old sliding glass door latch that wasn't working. I was going to have to replace the entire door at great cost to me until City Lock came to my home and repaired that lock for a very reasonable price. I also find the owner to be very friendly to all customers and gives you as many options as he can. read more

Worst customer service. I was quoted $50.00 per key fob to have recoded. Then they told a co-worker that dropped it off $75 per fob. Then I was told they couldn't get one of the fobs to code did I buy it online. I told them I bought from the dealer. Then they called back and said they made a mistake on the machine and both fobs are now coded. I asked them to make an extra key to go with other fob. The guy tells me that my total will be $130.00. Then he calls back to tell me the car is ready and that he quoted me wrong and my new total is $155.00. These people don't know what they are doing. I would not recomend them. read more

Really frustrating experience. I bought a replacement FOB for my car here 6 months ago after my original one was lost when my luggage was stolen on a trip. Since then, I have been having intermittent issues with the key where the battery will die suddenly in, what appears to be, prolonged cold weather. I have changed the batteries 3 times since I bought it 6 months ago. These batteries should last many years based on my research. Neither my old key nor my finance's key ever had this issue and we have had the car for 3 years. I brought it in to complain that something was wrong with it and asked that, rather than replacing the key with a new one, the owner would refund my money. Not only did he flat out refuse, but he argued with me the entire time, interrupted me and didn't hear my side of the story. I know this because the entire time he made non-sensical arguments blaming the third party alarm in the car, which is a completely unrelated issue; the alarm for some reason doesn't like the new key and when the battery dies and I put the key in manually, the alarm will go off and not stop. It is an inconvenience but not City Lock's issue: the key is, yet he wouldn't stop yelling about it. Even if I didn't have this alarm issue, I would still bring in the key because, duh, it didn't work and I paid $200 for it to work! I made it very clear what the options were despite him continuing to argue with me a) a refund b) a replacement key but an agreement that he would refund $$ if it happened again c) I walk out and he loses a customer for life...he chose c), the very definition of poor customer service. I am sorry but I do not think it is unreasonable for a customer to ask for a refund if they get a product that doesn't work properly and it was paid for to work properly. Not only that but to be argued with and disrespected. I dealt with the key for 6 months (so I gave it an honest try) only to give up, bring it in and deal with this guys attitude...never again. I would rather cut my losses then deal with those kind of people. read more
