Waste of time and unprofessional. Abby came for a site survey to our home, we needed 4 interior locks and a smart lock installed. She said she could install the locks if we purchased them. She never got back to us after a month of waiting, I called back finally to get on the schedule. She then said they were unable to install the locks in our home and gave me the name of another company, Lockstar. I wish she would have been more upfront about their capabilities. Service provided was good, but was repeatedly billed after payment. Got no response from leaving messages with "accounting", went in in person and paid cash - got receipts, but continued to get billed, 6 weeks later as of today. Called again today - we'll see what they do. Next step will file a complaint with Boulder BBB. Will revise this review once they take care of their irresponsible billing practices. read more

Outstanding! Truly Outstanding service. I came in with a unique garage door lock (Reynor) and after trying the 100s and 100s of keys (hanging on their walls) they were unable to find the correct lock shape of key to fit the 1970's lock. Then they proceeded to help me search around town (Boulder) for other options of barrel locks that might fit. The did this all without any service charge because they said they could not fix my type of lock. Outstanding. They know their stuff! read more

The repairman was great. He was quick and efficient and polite. The only issue I had was scheduling. When you try to schedule, your call goes to an answering machine. I called on a Monday morning and by the time the call was returned, the earliest time slot they had was Thursday. I accepted the Thursday appointment but was called late on Wednesday and was told they would have to reschedule my appointment for the following Monday. The locking mechanism in my double door was broken, and I ended up waiting a week to get it fixed. But, again, the repair man was terrific and was only here for about 15 minutes. read more

Locksmith scams are well known and I thought by choosing a local business I would be safe...but unfortunately it happened to me as well. We needed to replace a door lever and deadbolt and ended up paying $264, even though we were quoted $64 for the trip charge and $ 109 for the hardware . Little did I know they would charge $90 extra, just for the deadbolt. Having done my research, I knew I could get the exact same set (door lever and deadbolt combo) at Homedepot for about $40 -- charging $200 for the same item is outrageous. In hindsight, I should have bought the lock at HD and hired a handyman which would have cost $120 instead more than twice as much! Charging excessive prices, even if low prices were advertised or quoted by the call centre is a common problem - even good ratings didn't protect us against this rip-off. read more

I have used Buffalo Lock and Key for decades. More frequently in the past than recently but I stopped in to get some keys duplicated today since I was in the shopping center. For on the spot key making they are as good as any of the "very best" places around. There are a few but sometimes there is a bit of a wait elsewhere and this is off the beaten path for shopping, especially now that the Whole Foods in this center closed. But Buffalo really excels at being a quality locksmith shop and providing locksmith services. They even sell "real" safes and I'll take a pic next time. They have re-keyed my whole house on 2-3 occasions in the past. First when I bought it and the shop was new, back in the 70s. Then after a big remodel that involved new entries and once after a break in a long time ago. They are awesome. And I do believe one time they fixed an entry lock that was malfunctioning. Back in the dark old days before the internet, this was the place to special order door locks not locally available and they would come install them. They still do and it is still the original owner. Terrible customer service at this place. When I first called to make the appointment I wasn't greeted with any kind of friendly attitude at all. It was a gruff attitude like I'm bothering them or something. Made an appointment for a deadbolt install for this week. The day came and nobody showed up within the two hour window that they promised. Nobody called and nobody showed up. Extremely unprofessional. When I called to ask about this in the morning, again I was greeted with an attitude. Nobody apologized for missing the appointment and again I was received with an attitude. This is totally unprofessional Well I waited for an apology or some gesture that would resolve this situation, but of course these people don't care. Stay away from this company, obviously individual customers don't matter to these people. I assume that they get most of their business by dealing in bulk, i.e. massive apartment buildings and such. I wouldn't give these people any money if they treat you with this kind of disregard. Seriously saved me!! I was sick with the flu and house sitting in the mountains. Wouldn't you know it, I locked my kid, keys, phone in the car in the garage (car was turned off) !! We wanted to get a duplicate key for one of our cars. They quoted a good price, but I wanted to call a few other places. Once I decided to go with Buffalo Lock & Key, I could not get them to return my calls to save my life. After many times of calling and calling, and speaking with the manager, finally Michael (the car expert, I guess?) called me back. I ordered the key and he told me it would be several weeks. I ordered it and several weeks went by and, guess what? No one has called to say that is it in and, again, I can't get anyone to return my call. What a run-around. Don't waste your time! read more

I had a key break off in the driver's side door of my car. Inconvenient for anyone, but since I was showing my car to sell later that day, it was especially inopportune. After going to another lock and key place closer to my house and being told it would take removing my entire lock from my doors and hours worth of work, I tried Buffalo. I told the guy what the other locksmith had said and he replied "... Really?" 3 minutes later the key was out. I needed a copy made of a gate key for our condo in PR to loan to a renter and came to Buffalo to have this service done. The key did not have 'Do Not Duplicate' instructions on it but I was still denied the ability to make a copy of this key. I wasn't given an exact reason why. Instead, I waited in the shop for 10 minutes while the representative scoured their wall of keys for a blank. I was finally told to have our condo office make a copy. Problem with this is that it's in Puerto Rico (where they charge a hefty duplication fee) and I needed to send it to renters within the week. I left feeling as if they suspected I had malicious intent so I don't think I will be returning. I find I get better service at McGuckin's, where I should've gone first. I see that there are lots of good reviews for this store, and I am sure they provide excellent service. I just didn't feel as if I got that stellar service everyone is raving about. read more

I went in on 7/16/21 to get a back up FOB for my Mini Cooper. It was a very long wait only to be told it had to be ordered. I waited for 4 weeks. Made a follow up call, no one called me back. Waited another 2 weeks, made a follow up call no one called me back. Today I called Mini Cooper and they can get me one in 3 days. Buffalo Lock and Key asked me to pay a deposit of $65.00 that they put that on my card on 7/16/21. I called them today to cancel the order. Of course once again only a recording. Let's hope getting back my money isn't as difficult. Very disappointed in how I've been handled and Buffalo Lock and Key was recommended by McGuckins to do this key fob. I took an old safe with material sentimental value (a gift from my grandfather) to Buffalo Lock & Key after the key broke off inside the key hole. I thought it would be an impossible fix, but Buffalo took the time to find a way to get the broken key out, then duplicate the key itself. All for a very reasonable cost.
