I give it more a 4. 5 due to the fact they run out of pulled Pork. I got the City sampler so I can taste everything they offer. The sausage is big, a little heat and juicy. The brisket was yummy and very tender but once it gets cold the fat gets congealed a bit and alters the taste and texture. I was very surprised with the Turkey tho. It was tender and juicy. I thought it would be very dry and even the next day and reheated, it was still juicy. As for the toast reheated, not very good. It became very rubbery. I enjoyed all sauces except for the honey mustard. It didn't taste good. I like the gumbo and corn pudding. read more

Super delicious BBQ and other food, incredible friendly staff, and a great environment! I've tried a lot of their dishes and I've never had a bad experience. In fact, we also get catering from them now because we love their food so much. I highly recommend stuffing yourself and then getting the peach cobbler. Wish they would open a location closer to me!! This place I heard good things about and wanted to like this place, but it was just okay for me. Maybe, it's because my comparisons are really good places like Texas Pit BBQ in Angier and Red Neck BBQ Lab in Benson that this place didn't hit my expectations of what bbq would taste like. I had the brisket with 2 sides (corn pudding and fries) that was ~$12. In short, it didn't amaze. Brisket was a little more burnt than I liked that I I could only eat a few bites before just putting it to the side. Corn pudding was mediocre and same with the fries that I couldn't finish my meal. It might've just been my luck that I ordered dishes that aren't their best or caught them on an off day, but I'd maybe recommend other dishes than the ones I ordered. I'm definitely willing to give them a second try. Plus side is that they have good outdoor seating and when I came with a group, it was a nice warm day to enjoy the outdoor sun. read more

This is my go-to anytime we have a BBQ craving. A pound of brisket, couple little cups of sauce, coleslaw, beans, and dinner for the two of us is done. (I get the sweeter tomato-based regular sauce and some of the spicier version for him. I can never remember the names, but they always take care of helping me chose correctly.) I do my best to avoid the super-rich chocolate cake squares they have sitting there while you wait to order... but I usually fail. Stopped in here kinda unexpectedly one day and was not disappointed! The manager/owner (?) let us sample the meats to figure out what we wanted. Ended up going with smoked turkey and brisket. The two meats plate with sides and drinks was plenty of food for two people. The beans were good, pretty dang good. My wife loved the smoked turkey and the brisket was awesome! Good, fall a part, just the right amount of fat, good burn, brisket. The okra, best fried okra I've ever had, sorry granny, but it was better than yours. The banana pudding ranks #3 on my best banana pudding list, which is saying something as I consider myself a bit of a banana pudding expert and have eaten probably WAAY too much of it in my life. I can't wait to find an excuse to go back here. If you're trying the sauces, keep the mustard and vinegar with pulled pork, a sweet sauce with the pulled pork or smoked turkey and the sweet and spicy or nothing at all on the brisket. On a bit of a side note, the tea is good. It tastes fresh and clean not like that burnt, bitter, dirty tasting crap they serve at bojangles. Solid bbq spot. We tried the turkey breast, corn pudding, hush puppies, 'loaded' mac'n'cheese, and banana pudding. Being from the south, I have to admit the banana pudding was a tad bit overhyped. I would still give it 8/10. We preferred the original mac'n'cheese over the loaded version. (Loaded had a ton of cheese and was very buttery, but still tasty) The original was perfect; a solid 9/10 for mac'n'cheese. The turkey was juicy and they have 8 or so different sauces which were very good. 8/10 for the turkey and 9/10 for the sauce variety. Corn pudding was by far the best thing we tried. 10/10 for that! Overall, we give city bbq a 9/10. Al made our visit very pleasant and welcoming. That combined with the quality of food and friendly staff make this place a must try!! After hearing great reviews about this place, we gave it a try. The ambiance was great in the dining area and the picnic tables outside were cute. Ordering was a little strange though. Order at the register and then wait for you food in an area with other people. Since they're putting out several orders at a time, it can get confusing, and orders can get mixed up. The food was pretty good. I had the pulled pork on a bun. It was very dry until I drowned it in the BBQ sauce they keep on the table. It was also a little too smokey flavored for me, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Cukes 'n Onions were great and the hush puppies were just like everyone else's. My boys each got a side of fries with cheese and bacon added. They loved them. One of my sons and my daughter had the chicken fingers. No complaints. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because it ended up being very expensive. They asked each of my sons if they wanted to add 2 sides. They each did. The woman then asked them if they wanted cheese and bacon on their fries. I don't know many teenage boys who would say no. Their $2.99 for 2 sides ended up being $4.50, which in my opinion is too much for side items. No more pizza for us! I just did curbside pickup. Dinner for 4 took only 15 minutes. A nice person came by my car and placed a giant bag of food into the passenger's side window. Talk about touchless. It was a snap. Super nice, friendly service. The food was fabulous! The brisket was so tasty. Buns were fresh and fluffy. The fries were just OK--tasted and looked homemade, not processed, though. Cole slaw was creamy and delicious. The cornbread tasted like cake. Yummy. Unfortunately I ate way too much. Extremely reasonable prices. To get any sandwich under $10 these days is a rarity, but this place does it! I will definitely order from them again. Even if you don't know what to get, you can order a sampler platter. We met with Lynn for our wedding taste testing in October 2019. She was lovely and we immediately liked her and the food! It was tough to narrow down which options we'd have at the wedding because we loved them all. I'm a big BBQ fan and City Barbeque was everything I wanted in both lunch and a wedding meal. We had just moved to the Apex area the month before, so it was a wonderful surprise to find the Cary location! We got married in July 2020 and basically everything that could have gone wrong, did. We lost our planner and venue three months out, along with all the other vendors she had supposedly booked. I called Lynn to make sure we had them booked and the planner had never put down the deposit, but Lynn wasn't worried about it. She was very kind about our experience and I put the deposit down that afternoon. They showed up on our wedding day and immediately had everything ready to go. They set up a s'mores bar outside and served a plated dinner, per COVID requirements. Our eight guests were amazed at the food and service. At the end of the night, Lynn even boxed the leftovers and made sure we left with them so we could have a good meal the next day and not worry about cooking anything. We left with plenty of food and desserts! I cannot begin to describe how grateful I am that we worked with Lynn and her team for our wedding. She's the most wonderful person and made my BBQ/s'mores-loving heart so happy during our reception! We'll definitely be ordering takeout from there in the future. read more

It was my first order, and I ordered a to go order. The ribs were moist but under seasoned. I had to add my own sauce to the ribs, which was sweet baby rays. The collard greens had too much vinegar and needed more herbs or seasoning added. The baked beans lacked flavor and was not too good. The sweet bbq sauce was too thick and flavorless. I was pleasant surprised! Was told this was a chain, would not have guessed it based on how great the food was. The sides are also delicious. I LOVED the sweet potato casserole. I wished they could serve this year found! The fried okra was great too. Ribs were great and had a lot of meat. Banana pudding is a must! It gets really busy so schedule accordingly! I took off one star because of how loud it gets when it's full. It was difficult to hear others at our table. Can I just say that the people that work here are some of the nicest people I've ever encountered in any sort of restaurant? My first time visiting, the guy at the register asked a few questions and figured out that we were new to the area and it was our first time there. He shook my hand, welcomed me to the area, said our drinks were on the house, and offered sample of all of the different meats. Talk about service. On another occasion, one of my daughter's was in one of those moods and got mad because she had to share fries with one of her siblings. An employee overheard her complaining to us and brought over a basket of fries just for her. While I don't love to reward that behavior (haha), it was so thoughtful of him to do that. We'd like to give a shout-out to manager Shakira (we believe she's a manager -- if not a manager, she's an awesome employee!). After a very disappointing experience at a different nearby City Barbecue location, Shakira saved the day. After placing an order by phone at the "other" location (which, by the way, now utilizes a centralized, national phone queue instead of connecting to someone at the actual location), we showed up to pick up our order and learned that they were out of sausage, in spite of the fact that we had specifically verified with the the phone-order person that they still had sausage in stock. Since this was our main entree, and they were also out of every single other entree other than two options that we didn't care for, this was a huge deal. Not to mention, we had already paid for the order, which should have ensured that they would have reserved the items for us. However, long story short, we were able only to get our side dishes, not an actual entree. As it was nearing closing time for all City BBQ locations, we were not sure what to do, and in desperation we called the Cary location. Hallelujah, someone at the actual store location (Shakira!) answered the phone and was extremely kind, helpful, and understanding when she learned of our dilemma. She assured us that they would save some sausage for us, and not only did she do that, but she also provided us with some of the other sides we had ordered, as the ones from the "other" location would not be fresh by the time we got home. This was all accomplished at the eleventh hour when I'm sure she and the other employees would like to have been cleaning up and going home. But she waited for me to arrive, greeted me with a smile, and then -- although I was, of course, prepared to pay for the items -- she refused payment, stating that I had already been through enough that night. That is epic service!!! Thanks to Shakira, we were able to enjoy a fresh, hot meal, which was delicious, and we will be sure to let people know that the Cary location of City BBQ is the BEST!!! read more

We love City Barbecue. We were in the Cary area and since we are City BBQ fans of the N. Raleigh location, we decided to drop in the Cary location. We always enjoy everything we try. Today it was the brisket sandwich for my husband, always tender and flavorful. I had the pulled chicken sandwich and it's nicely seasoned, so tender & tasty even without sauce. We had the fries as our sides today; they are not frozen - these are excellent French fries! We've always had excellent service, and this location provided us the same friendly service as the N. Got the "Judges Sampler" to try a little bit of everything and see if I could find something tasty like a lot of reviews mention but unfortunately I did not. Whenever we come we are never disappointed. They have a new option on the menu for brisket tacos. All I have to say is I sure hope they keep them on the menu. Oh so good! The vinegar sauce and the original are top notch! The brisket and pulled pork are fantastic! We tried the beans, hush puppies, Texas toast and cornbread but looking at other tables the other sides looked just as tasty as ours were!
