Cino has been on my list to try since they opened, but it is slightly pricier than I'd spend on a random middle of the week dinner. So I was happy when my boyfriend made us reservations on my birthday. Cino is located in on the first floor of the 'A'ali'i condominium in Ward, which makes parking very simple. We parked at Whole Foods and took advantage of that by doing some grocery shopping after dinner. The decor is just gorgeous and the food amazing! I don't normally drink but do enjoy cocktails every now and then. If not on your birthday then when? I really enjoyed the Orange Yuzu Cooler which was sweet and refreshing, while my boyfriend tried the Luce Verde (try it as is, then let the ice melt a bit and try it again. I think there was some salt on the ice cube and it changed the flavor profile after it melted in to the drink. Not good, not bad, but just different). I honestly would never have thought to try it, but since their Yelp page claims that they're "known for charred octopus and lively atmosphere", we had to try the charred Spanish octopus. At $22, it was VERY pricy for the two tentacles. However it was SO GOOD! The flavor was smoky and just so tender- not chewy at all which is what you would imagine. For our entrees, we had the House-Aged Half Roast Duck and the Rigatoni Bolognese. We also shared a side of the Twice-Baked Potato because our server Dylan told us that my duck doesn't come with anything. WRONG - it does come with some cauliflower (however the potatoes were really good so I'm glad my boyfriend wanted to try it). Whenever we dine out, we always swap dishes halfway through so we can try a little of everything. We both didn't want to give up the duck when it was our turn. The duck was so good. It was tender and fatty and the flavor was just perfect. We'd go back for the duck. The twice-baked potato was also amazing. It was the best baked potato I've ever had - probably because it was essentially mashed potatoes. But it was a VERY GOOD mashed potato. We'll most likely get this again. The Bolognese was good for what it is but not overwhelming like the other dishes. If you like Bolognese, you'll like it. But overall not something I'd order again. There's just so many other options. Made a reservation on Open table for my bf bday but did not see an option for table seating. So just chose Bar. When we went around 6:45 pm it was packed. We were seated at the bar and hostess had told my bf that if a seat opens up we would be able to sit. Ordered the classic cocktail: which was good. Then while we waited we ordered the appetizer called Charred Octopus: ok but it was only one leg. Wanted to try their melon salad but I guess that ran out so we ordered a suggested salad in the mean time: although it was good it was a bit too small. For our dinner: Crab spaghetti: my bf said had more umami than his Rigatoni Bolognese: which I preferred. So we ended up liking each others main dinner more. Atmosphere wise: Hip place but very loud. We did get seated at a table behind the bar area finally when our octopus came, although it was open for quite some time cause I kept looking back. Plus side they remembered my bf bday and brought a cherries jubilee ice cream with candle minus the singing which I did for my bf. Over all our experience there was quite good. Well well well... Hello little beautiful new spot!!! We really loved this place! We popped in, without a reservation on Wednesday night and got two seats right at the bar. We like to sit at the bar. If you want a table, make a reservation as this place is going to be VERY popular I think. They have been open a month, still tweaking things but off to a great start. This place feels so trendy and chic. Just love the atmosphere inside. Our bartender, Nicolo (not sure on spelling) is making sure things are being tweaked, really listening to customers and is a great bartender. It seemed he was training other people and the vibe we got was they really are committed to providing well made craft cocktails. I am a lemon drop martini fan and they did not disappoint. Perfect. We also tried their take on a whiskey sour. The whiskey drink was a little sweet as it has pineapple hints in it. The second one we ordered was a regular whiskey sour and asked them to muddle some jalapenos in it. AWESOME! Highly recommend! We started with the Romain Salad. ONLY get this if you LOVE anchovies. Food is delicious. Especially the broccolini that was cooked perfectly and a nice size to share for two. I had a Sagebrush made with Bourbon, elderberry and Meyer's lemon. Excellent buy pricey. You can get better value for your money but everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves. It was extremely noisy the night we went and others have told me that the noise level is quite high there. I pass by this establishment twice weekly when I work in the area. I've noticed how busy this restaurant has been and have been wanting to try it. Finally we decided to have a date night and my date suggested we have dinner here. I already had in mind of what I wanted to eat due to reading the reviews on Yelp and looking at all the pictures of the food and also of the menu. My heart was set on the 25oz ribeye for my entree. We checked in with the hostess and she had a table for us right next to where you can watch the cooks and see into the kitchen, but we wanted a more private table seated in the back. The hostess didn't seem too happy with the request, but she did get us another table that we could sit at in back. We definitely didn't want to sit outside because of how it smells out there from the dogs peeing on the plants, small bordered fences back there. I smell it when running/walking past when I work there, so outside wouldn't have been an option. Shortly after being seated and menus given to us, we took a look at the menu in hand and already knew what was on it, yet we both chose totally different dishes in the end. The waiter went over the special and mentioned that his favorite on the menu is the Veal Parmesan. To start, I ordered a cocktail called The Bengal and we ordered the Charred Spanish Octopus as our appetizer. This was so amazing, that I would go back just to have this. I ended up ordering the Veal Parmesan as my entree because the waiter sold me on it! It was so tender with fresh mozzarella, basil and tomato on top and twice baked potato. My date ordered Herb Pappardelle which has lamb and whipped ricotta. My Veal was amazing! I believe for the Herb Pappardelle, if you like lamb, then you may like this entree, but if you don't like the acquired taste of it, this may not be for you. I myself thought it was a good dish, but would try one of the other pastas next time. For desert we ordered the Tiramisu bar. This was really good! Not your regular tiramisu desert for sure. It was tiramisu with a chocolate shell, similar to Doves ice cream bar with the chocolate shell around it. As full as we were, we ate all of the desert and got the rest packed to take home. A hidden gem of an upscale and elegant Italian fusion restaurant quietly opened in the Kakaako area in Sept. 2023 and is a perfect for a celebration, and it's called Cino (pronounced "chino"). Operated by DB Concepts that also opened Kakaako Café, DB Grill, and Mad Bene, Cino is located on the ground floor of the A'ali'i residential condo. Cino's Executive Chef is Arnold Corpuz, home-grown from Aiea and became the chef at Manzo at the Park MGM in Las Vegas (LAS). Not only did Chef Corpuz move back to Honolulu to open Cino, but he also brought along some of his experienced servers from LAS as well. A bit of Vegas in Honolulu! Cino's dinner menu offerings include: appetizers (fried seafood/veggies, octopus, beef tartare, beets, romaine, caprese, prosciutto, charcuterie); pasta (spaghetti, pappardelle, bolognese, pinwheel); grilled: pork chops, filet mignon, New York strip, ribeye, wagyu, fish; entrée (butterfish, veal, chicken, duck, lobster, osso bucco); crudo seafood; sides (potatoes, veggies). We were intentional in ordering just two meat dishes and a side, knowing that these were heavy items and to allow room for dessert. We ordered the following: * Pork chops (14-day dry aged). The star of the show, the pork chops were slightly crunchy on the outside, while juicy and tender on the inside due to the apple reduction sauce. Generous thick pork slices with a large bone taken home to nibble on. Absolutely delicious! * 25 oz. ribeye (60-day dry aged). The ribeye was tender, flavorful, had a nice char to it, and cooked medium rare. While this was our grandson's choice, he said it was delicious but enjoyed the pork chops more. * Twice-baked potatoes. This huge potato of crispy pancetta, crème fraiche, chives, and bacon bits with partially mashed potatoes and chunky potatoes made this creamy side dish outstanding! Very generous portion! * Tiramisu. This was delicious with a subtle taste of coffee and cocoa powder. Note that a new supplier is being used, so this doesn't resemble the original tiramisu which I liked better for its appearance. Nice gesture by Cino as a complimentary birthday dessert. * Mango coconut panna cotta topped with fresh mixed fruits. Excellent dessert that was light, silky, smooth, and flavorful! Our server, Carissa, was very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the menu items. As menu items vary depending on the day, Carissa was able to explain in detail with accuracy as to what was available that evening. She was very attentive in meeting our needs to ensuring that we enjoyed our dinner. Upon entering, the full bar is straight ahead, and the main dining room and outdoor patio are to the left. The main dining room has a tile floor, which allows for the acoustics to be compromised, as Yelpers have noted that conversations are "loud." We requested to be seated to the right of the dining room near the bar where it was much quieter. The restaurant interior is stunningly beautiful with an elegant ambiance. Dark mahogany walls and wall art adorn this innovative, trendy restaurant. Dinner hours are: Sun, Mon to Thurs, 5p to 9p and Fri/Sat 5p to 11p. Brunch is Sat/Sun, 10:30a to 2p. While the proper address of Cino is on Queen St., note that the entrance is on Halekauwila St., across from Nori Bar. First time and probably my last dining at Cino. Service was great, although our server's opening line was, "did you know we were awarded the best new restaurant"... pretty bold statement to start with in my opinion. That to me, set the bar and expectations high. So we ordered everything our wait staff recommended, the truffle pasta and Sea Bass with a side of Broccolini. The truffle pasta was good but not great and was quite small, maybe 5" in diameter max? I make something similar at home with heavy cream and truffle oil. It's a pretty simple dish to make if you have the truffle oil. The Sea Bass was also highly recommended by our server and we were told that the fish was completely deboned and boneless. For someone who isn't comfortable eating a whole fish, this dish is not recommended. There were at least 9 bones that I had to pick out of my mouth. Not a good dish to order on a date! Cino in my opinion is Super overpriced. My favorite thing was the Berry Pannacotta. It was creamy and delicious with fresh berries. Although the food was decent, portions are way too small. The food is definitely notable and competes with Las Vegas and SF restaurants which places Cino at the top of Italian cuisine in Hawaii. Until now, there was nothing really to compare to. Tried Cino for the first time and got lost trying to find it. I ended up calling the restaurant to ask where to park and they suggested that I park in the Wholefoods parking structure. Once you come out of Wholefoods, turn onto the road that has the DnB parking structure so that it's on your left hand side. Walk straight until you reach the next building, A'ali'i and Cino is on the bottom floor. Once you open the front door to the restaurant, you feel like you've walked into what almost felt like a fancy speakeasy. The ambiance is so beautiful and classy. Definitely a nice spot for a date night or drinks with the girls. I went with a party of three and we shared two entrees, a side, and a salad. It was enough food to feel satisfied but not full. We got the crab uni pasta which we all agreed was the best. We also got another pasta, the papardelli (spelling?) with wild boar and it was just okay. The beet and goat cheese salad was very small to share but delicious. The twice baked potato side dish was okay, nothing I'd want to order again. It was more like mashed potatoes. For drinks, I got the Cino old fashioned and it was good but kind of pricey at $22, Nordstrom bar's old fashioned is better in my opinion. Then I got just a vodka soda and it was you know, a vodka soda. The service was great and our waitress was attentive and sweet. Nothing to complain about! I always review bathrooms because a restaurant with an unsanitary bathroom means they must not clean their kitchen that us patrons can't see. Probably our favorite meal in Hawaii, Cino is a very fancy restaurant, like you need to order your protein and if you want a side, you gotta order that separately. Easily over $200 meal. That being said, we had a fantastic meal that lasted close to 2 hours, the service is impeccable. The restaurant is loud and busy but it's obvious folks were enjoying themselves and the food. We ordered two salads to start, the salted roasted baby beet salad (charred orange, goat cheese, aged balsamic with hazelnuts) and the romaine (anchovy vinaigrette with Parmesan). Both were really good, I found the romaine a little salty/overdressed but still edible. We also ordered a half dozen oysters, funny because they were from Washington, still good. For the mains, we got the crab spaghetti and half roasted jidori chicken. Pasta was creamy and rich, chicken was not my thing. I didn't enjoy it. We also ordered the crispy garlic potatoes and the broccolini both were great but the potatoes were the best, super crispy and soft on the inside. I found out on this visit, that dry age has diminishing returns. This steak although perfectly cooked had a strong blue cheese and parmesan cheese flavor. The smell was also like cheese. In fact, it was the only thing I could taste with a hint of butter. No beef flavor here. None. The texture was a tender steak, but the flavor was so off. Personally, I don't see the point. Skip it unless you like that sort of acquired taste. Pasta was the stand out. Dry aged steak wasn't worth it, but everything else was. I should have tried the pork chop. We dined with two friends and we ALL loved that pork chop waaay too much. The mixed fried appetizer with calamari, shrimp, and mixed vegetables went quickly. My SIL who usually isn't super happy about the lobster she's had before even at nice restaurants, said this was good lobster. I loved the oysters and the shrimp were huge! For dinner I had the crab spaghetti and the hubby had the whole branzino- both were perfect, no complaints at all, so tasty and good sized portions! My mom had the veal Parmesan and that was humongous and divineeeee! So crispy, juicy, soft, just salty enough, and so so yummy! For dessert we had the tiramisu and panna cotta. Both yummy, rich in a good way, and enough to share! They gave my parents a special dessert which was very sweet. Would come back again. I give it 5 stars for food and service and a very low rating for the ambiance due to the noise. We had excellent dishes and a great waiter (Roberto). The bummer was that we were in a beautiful restaurant, but the noise volume became unbearable, greatly affecting our experience. Finally got around to trying Cino. Sat at the bar, and we were immediately acknowledged by the bartender despite him being busy with making multiple orders of very time consuming drinks. The bartender "Justin" managed to multi task exceptionally well, something that would end up being the foundation of an overall great experience. My date and I started with some great aperitifs as recommended by the bartender. Justin also answered our menu questions with the answered we needed, not just some routine scripted replies, it was obvious he knew the menu well. His wine suggestion was so perfect I didn't mind the cost. Also, full disclosure I'm far from a wine expert but he was able to help me along without making me look lost in front of my date (thank you again). Food was delicious, atmosphere of the place was upbeat without being frantic, stylish but not trendy, and comfortable while still high end. Overall an amazing evening, but again driving the whole experience was an absolute master of his art, the bartender "Justin" who walked the tight rope between too friendly and too "professional", he was super knowledgeable without showing off, engaging without smothering (suddenly there and offering a refill, or dropping a suggestion at just the right moment, Everytime I looked over I saw his co-workers looking to him for direction, or another guest thanking him for his attention. I even overheard another guest comment that they wished their favorite restaurant "back home" made them feel like this place did. We had a very nice dinner here. Cool vibe and atmosphere, like I was transported to a swanky restaurant in NYC or in Vegas (with the matching prices too). Dishes ordered: - Charred Spanish octopus ($21) - Caprese ($19) - Crab spaghetti ($32) - New York Strip ($78) - Roasted cauliflower ($15) - Mixed berry panna cotta My favorite dish was the crab spaghetti, followed by the NY strip which was cooked perfectly, but was lacking that sear on the outside. The octopus was good with a nice charred flavor. The cauliflower was way too salty with the gremolata on top. I should've sent this back. read more

The food was delicious. It was well balanced and some of the best Italian food I've had being so far away from Italy. While the sides were definitely big enough to share, I was a little disappointed by how small the portions of the entrees were. They would not have filled me up if I was eating them on my own. All in all, a pleasant experience and will probably come again for a special occasion, not if I was hungry and wanted to feast. read more

Fun little spot! Came here for girls night on Tuesday. It was so busy even for a Tuesday. Decor was gorgeous. Love the vibes. Way too crowded. First I got seated next to the crudo counter ( right next to the kitchen). Would've been fantastic! But it was impossible to hear anything, let alone each other. I got lucky and moved to the bar seats but it was way too loud. Perhaps popular this week. Or just a fun new spot to be on a weekday. Victoria was our sever: she's a breath of fresh air! I called out her social accent. It was nice. Loved it :) Crudo was good! Spanish octopus was very tender. Took a little too long in general, they were pretty busy. Love the vibes and the food. The noise level made the atmosphere not as comfortable. I get that they are very busy. Fun for a drink or two. Not good if you're trying to catch up or have conversations. I was stuck without a restroom and they let me use theirs really quick. Really amazing staff! They are very professional and friendly, bathroom is super clean and well kept. I'll be back to try the food for sure. read more
