I remember going to this place for dinner about a year or two ago, but I honestly don't remember my experience here. I just remember that I thought the food was just all right. So, earlier today, while roaming around trying to figure out a place to eat, decided to give this place another ago, since I don't remember this place that well.
At first, I was really excited to see that they serve brunch: entree, one alcoholic drink and dessert (brownie & vanilla ice cream) for $10.50. We ordered a margarita on the rocks and a mimosa. The server even asked us three times to be sure what we drinks we wanted. So, we waited. Other people came in after us, gave their orders, and they got their drinks immediately. We waited. No drinks in sight.
Our food came out about 20 mins later, without our drinks. We told the person that gave us our food that we still didn't get our drinks yet. He asked us what we ordered, and then, he went over to our server. I saw her frantically looking through her notepad. She came by our table again and said "your margarita on the rocks, right? With salt?" I said "yes." Then she said again, "so salt, yes?" I said "yes please." Then she walks away. She stands there by the bar, nobody at the bar to make our drinks. We were annoyed. After about 10 minutes, she starts making our drinks, and brings them to us. The margarita was decent; nothing spectacular. The mimosa was good.
We ordered the huevos rancheros (two fried eggs on top of a fried tortilla, rice and beans) and the pork chops (two friend eggs on top, sweet plantains and black beans). The huevos rancheros was very disappointing; not very flavorful and the fried tortilla just was hard, flavorless and just felt out of place (especially in texture). The pork chop with the egg was pretty good, juicy and good flavor; the beans in the tortilla shell just didn't flow with the food. So, overall, the only thing good was the pork chop. Everything else was just okay.
The dessert came, and it was very disappointing. The brownie was a bit hard, tasted a bit stale. The only thing that made it go down was the small scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was very underwhelming.
Afterwards, we asked for our check. I see our server talking with two other men, writing and going through her notepad. It took her about 5-8 mins, and she walked over to us. She put her big calculator in front of me, and said. She said "okay, you ordered brunch, so that was $10.50", and then enters the numbers "10.50." And then says, "you had two" and then she adds "10.50." She says, "okay so you see your meal is $21." Then she shows me this receipt that had a lot of crossing out all over the place, and says, "so your tax will be 86 cents. So total $21.86, okay?" I was just so surprised by this, I didn't say anything. And she takes her calculator and walks away. Wow, what was that?!
I honestly don't remember there being bad service when I had went here a year or two ago because I always remember bad experiences. The food just average, strange service, and a nice looking restaurant. Now, with this experience engraved in my memory, I will not return.
Thank goodness I know better Mexican restaurants. read more
