I love when I find a place that's reasonably priced and delicious. Hidden amongst a neighborhood full of mainly Korean restaurants, this El Salvadoran restaurant was a true joy to find and try out. They offer a lunch special for $13 but we all opted for the 3 taco set that comes in either beef or chicken that comes with rice and beans. The taco shell was a hard shell and tasted so fresh and crunchy like it was homemade. The meat was juicy and delicious and it was dripping it was so good. The tacos were generously topped with lettuce and slice of avocado. The beans seem like they were blended and very tasty. The only downside was the language barrier. We orders 3 beef tacos and 1 chicken taco and they mistakenly brought out 2 chicken and 2 beef. It was a little difficult rectifying the order. We finally decided to bring the chicken order and order another beef set but it took a while for them to understand us. I think it was just a mistake on the kitchen part since when the receipt came, the order was actually for 3 beef and 1 chicken. All food at the end. We also didn't know what pupusas are so had to try it. Omg! We picked the one filled with chicharonnes and cheese. It was $3. Came with a side of coleslaw and dipping sauce. Soooooo good! I have always been curious about this restaurant and finally had the chance to try it. This place feels very homey like mom & pop shop. The service could be better but you can tell everyone is working hard and nonstop. Though there is not much seating, all Indoor tables and seats were filled during Sunday lunch hours. The mixed meats rice platter was great. Everything was seasoned well. The chicken breast was not dry. The steak was a little tough to cut but still tender to eat. The pork was a little dry. It comes with rice and salad on the side. It was a great combination. The empanada made with plantains was very interesting and worth trying. The exterior is fried plantain and the inside white filling is like a coconut cream custard. It is not too sweet. A great dessert or appetizer to try. We were in the area for a soccer game and happened upon this restaurant for dinner. Food and service were both wonderful and, if we were local, this place would be a regular take out spot for us. I may not be El Salvadoran but man I love my papusas!!! And this place is legit! The masa isn't too dry or too wet and the filings are so flavorful! Ordered one of each since you can't beat the $2 and change price for one to not order one of each to try. Also their tamales were spot on. The sweet corn tamale has a good balance of sweet and savory. Horchata was refreshing but their tres leches cake needs some help, it was dry and tasted a bit fridge burned. Staff is super friendly. My lunch date spoke Spanish but the waitress didn't speak much English but was still very accommodating with a lot of pointing, head nodding and giggling. Decided to check this Salvadorian eatery today. As soon as we walked in, there was a strong scent of pork in the air? Suddenly, i was salivating without even looking at the menu. As a Native Salvadorian, i am also a pupusa connosour. When i was ordering, i requested chicharron pupusas and i was immediately told they do not make them. Well im my book, that's - 1 star out of 5. So i had to settle for pupusas revueltas. While we waited, i had an orchata which turned out to be very sweet which is a shame. ($3 wasted) so it took 15 minutes to wait for 2 cheese pupusas and 2 revueltas. While waiting the waitress set us up with a plate of fresh made tortilla chips and salsa. Overall the place was very clean, no loud music, but service was slow. Prices were on the up, pupusas start at $2 and other types of pupusas are $2.25. The curtido was very tasty. There was a good mix of curtido options, a regular curtido and the other with purple cabbage and jalapenos which had a nice kick. 2 kinds of sauces, while the cheese pupusa was very cheese and oozing with a great mixture of cheese. The pupusa revuelta (half pork & half cheese) left me with one though in mind; Where is the PORK? I am telling you, there was no PORK there. So it was dissapointing. While they get a star for clean ambiance, a great cheese pupusa, i am highly dissapointed that they do not make chicharron pupusas. While i admit i am not a lover of the cheese pupusa, this place has changed my mind. However, i still want to try the rest of the menu. read more

Came here on a Saturday party of 2 around 5:45pm. We were seated immediately. The ambiance was nice and cozy. The place is not too big. The service was good. We ordered 2 bandejas salvadoreñas with carne asada and a order of empanadas. The bandeja came with rice and beans, steak, sweet plantains, avocado and 1 pupusa. For the pupusas, we got one mixta and one frijol con queso. The rice and beans (un moro de habichuela roja) was very wet and had too much of a coconut milk flavor. The piece of steak was fatty and hard to chew/cut and did not have much flavor. The pupusas were dry and also did not have too much flavor. The sweet plantains and avocado were good, standard. The empanadas were made out of sweet plantain with a sweet milk coconut custard inside. We did not like it as it was too sweet. They give water in a jar for the table but one complaint is that it was too warm. I wish the water was colder. Overall, we would maybe go back. read more

Great pupusas! Not that I've had all that many in the New York-area, but I'm happy to satisfy my craving for these here anytime. When piping hot, these are melt in your mouth delicious. Even reheated in the broiler the next day, I had few complaints. I ordered one of each kind recently for a kind of tasting event, and each kind was super delicious. My favorite was the bean and cheese, however. The staff was also very friendly and helpful in preparing my massive carry out order, and took care to introduce their house special sauces and toppings. We've frequented this location a few times since the pandemic and overall had good experiences with takeout. We typically ordered the Combo #3 because the kids like the salchipapas but this time we decided to try the lunch specials. We ordered 2 lunch specials (Roasted Chicken and Beef Stew) and a Weekend Special (Stuffed Bread) sandwich. The lunch specials come with Rice, Soup and Beans / Salad. I had asked for beans and both came with salad which made me sad because I really like their beans. Calling in my order, they said 25 minutes and it ended up being about 30 minutes but everything was very fresh. The beef stew was a bit tougher than I would have liked. The sandwich had shredded chicken and was really wet. By the time I got home (less then 10 minute drive), the entire bottom half of the bread was completely soggy. It still tasted good but next time I'll ask if they can remove some of the liquid before adding the meat. Total came out to $27 cash. If using credit card, they charge a 2% convenience fee. They had an area out front for dine in that was busy when I picked up my food. read more

I placed order for 2 banjeho Plato they said it'll be ready in 25 mins so I went there 30 minutes later and I still had to wait another 10-15 minutes. Upon arrival at the restaurant I asked for the food I ordered the young lady at the counter was very busy talking on the phone and she told me with her eyes rolled to the back of her head "We're very busy that's why your order is taking longer". The restaurant is fun and cute -- decorative in a cheery central American kind of way. It will feel familiar if you've ever spent time in Central America (except for the fishtank, but that's a hit with the kids!) The menu is slightly overpriced. There are culinary high points, but the *dishes* are mostly misses. You want to stay with the simple stuff. Appetizers, small plates of food. Anything more complicated isn't great. You'll see what I mean in the food reviews. Lastly, I'm sorry to say, service sucks hairy ass. Horrendous. We've come here four times now, and here are my observations about the service: a) The kitchen is slow! Expect an average wait time of 20 minutes for your food, even just an appetizer, and even when the restaurant is empty. When we came for weekend brunch and the restaurant was full, we waited nearly an hour. b) Waitresses are Slow! It really shouldn't take 15 minutes to honor a request for things like ketchup or a napkin. c) Waitresses are not friendly They're not unfriendly. Just not friendly. Get it? Most waitresses greet you with a smile, make a few seconds of small talk and are genuinely pleasant to interact with. Here they're all business. It's not bad, mind you. It's just not good. The fourth time we came here the wait time and friendliness improved, so maybe they're making an effort. Or maybe we just got lucky. Still, I doubt we'll be coming back for a fifth time. There's a douchey $7 service charge for delivery. Ass munches! This is 2018. Who the hell charges for delivery? You'd rather charge 7 dollars than get a $50 order from me? We spend a LOT of money on food. You should be begging me to order delivery! Breakfast +-=-=-=-+ Huevos con papas de la Casa: B- Sausage was obvious frozen patty sausage. Bacon was cheap, thin bacon. Eggs were good. The home fries were actually stupendous and delicious; some of the best I've ever had. The toast sucked ass -- it was a sad piece of dried out limp toast... I literally hated the toast. Threw it away. This breakfast was plain and not exciting. It would've been so simple to make this an A+ breakfast, like serving it with a side of salsa and avocado.\ Protip: When you order, don't bother asking for butter. They'll give you awful margarine. Ask for ketchup. Ask for salsa. You'll be happier. And make sure you ask for these things when you order. Otherwise, you'll be waiting for a long, long time! Huevos, Frijoles, Crema, Platanos: C+ They forgot out platanos! See my comments on Huevos con Papas de la Casa for further comments. Tamales de Pollo: A Very moist and flavorful. Nice filling. I wish I knew how they got their tamales this moist! Sopa de Res: B+ A delicious rustic Latin beef soup. Lovely flavor. The beef is flanken, which is normally a tough meat, but this flanken is soft, meaning they cooked it really well. The soup needs more meat and less cabbage. Also, the larger cabbage leaves should be cut because some of the cabbage leaves were too huge. Sopa de Pollo: A- Rustic and simple. Lots of chicken. They give lime, which really enhances the flavor. The soup itself was mild. I prefer a more intense chicken flavor, but it was still delicious and I'd order it again readily. Pupusa Mixta: B- Too much refried beans -- it makes the pupusa very bland. Not much flavor. Chicharrón con queso pupusa: A- This was delicious. Would've been an A if it were slightly less salty and the outside had brown griddle marks on the outside. Very cheesey.. it oozes out when you cut into the pupusa. Very nice! Albondigas con Arroz y Frijoles: C- FROZEN MEATBALLS?!? Don't think we don't know! These are the same awful meatballs we get from Foodtown's frozen foods section! Chicharrón y Yuca: C This is not Chicharrón! Chicharrón implies there's skin on the meat. This dish is really "pork chunks y yuca". Jeez. You really think we wouldn't know? I've been eating Chicharrón for longer than your waitresses have been alive! On the bright side, the yuca is delicious. Crunch on the outside, soft and moist on the inside. The pork chunks have been cooked into oblivion. Tasty, but dry, overcooked, and too salty. Horchata: B Par for the course. Banana Batida: A- Very good. I like the decorative straw cover spiral. Sweet and very banana. read more

One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. A waitress who can't speak English up to the point of not understanding the word water. Then you point at the menu picture and give the number but you still get ensalada instead of enchilada. They didn't have my friends request and never came back to ask what else she wanted instead. I also ordered the mixtas, which came with chicharrón, cheese and beans. This one I didn't like as much... I've had plenty of salvadoreño bandejas and this one was just not good at all. The rice and beans were dry, the steak was HORRIBLE. The description said grilled steak with onions.... we got some BBQ tasting steak with no onions and it was REALLY small. For 16.00 it was quite the rip off. Do not come here ! I have been coming here for years and loved it but the service has changed so much! The wait staff is always changing so I don't know if they don't get paid enough but their service is trash. After looking for parking for almost 30 mins and going around the block 4x we finally found parking. We went and was told to sit anywhere we wanted. We sat at the table for 4 because the other chairs are so uncomfortable and tables are small. We waited 15 minutes for a menu; which we ended up getting up and grabbing ourselves. After that a rude waitress came to our table to ask us if we were ordering takeout. We told her that we've been waiting for a while and even had to get the menu ourselves. She had no empathy and didn't apologize for the inconvenience. She didn't even ask us what we wanted to order before telling us we had to move to a different table because another party came that needed the table we were at. Chicken, beef stew, or fish served El Salvadorean style, with rice and choice of beans or salad. Comes with a free soda. DEAL. Had the beef stew with rice and beans...very good and quite a portion for $5. Next up was the pupusa, a corn pancake filled with beans, cheese, and pork. I had a pork-cheese pupusa and a bean-cheese variety as well. It's served alongside a pickled cabbage slaw and a picante-like sauce. $1.50 a pop is well worth it. Picked up four to save a few for later. The actual restaurant is what you'd expect from a neighborhood Latin American spot; orderly chaos, bright signs everywhere, bathroom-tile walls, outdated furniture. Perfect, in my opinion. While I was waiting, I was watching a soap on the Univision channel titled "Necesita una amiga", which, based on what I saw, translates to "Slap me and then kiss me and then punch me". My boyfriend and I were to tired to cook last night and came across this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. We ordered a pupusa each, a chicken tamale, steak and onions, and an horchata (my favorite drink of all times). The delivery was within the range of what yelp said (it wasn't so slow but wasn't that quick either). The food was hot when it got here and we were both pleased with our food. We shared the steak, but my boyfriend had devoured most of it before I even finished my pupusa (haha) which says a lot. The horchata was tasty but there was too grainy, I wish they had filtered it more. I also think they might use brown rice instead of white. It didn't taste like horchata I have had before, tasty still but not the same. This will definitely be on our list of places to order from again. read more
