I am so sad that I can't give Cielos a rave review; it has been a favorite go-to for me. It would seem that the old chef left, and the new chef is cooking the old chef's menu; a terrible idea. The flavors are off and, both times, the fish was dry as a bone. I hope the new chef gets to cook their own ideas and to have joy in the making; right now Cielos is a sad shadow of its formerly great self and I will not be coming back until it changes, and I can't recommend the place to anybody else. read more

What a beautiful little restaurant tucked into a bed and breakfast on an unassuming street! We didn't have reservations but were able to get a table by the bar to have dinner on our last night in town. I enjoyed the mixed salad with added shrimp and the barramundi on lima beans and something pureed (delicious!) The raspberry cheesecake was also light and delicate - a perfect ending to a relaxing and delightful dinner! We were there to celebrate my friend's birthday and they made sure to make her feel special! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and know we will be back here the next time work calls us to town! read more

this place really sucks during tourist season. The tamale bites were just cheap hush puppies and dry seafood was burnt and charred. Stuck up tourist place their vibe fits it very well. anyways this place sucks read more

Our November 20, 2021 stay at the Lodge on the Desert brought my daughters and me to Cielo's the following morning. If I lived in Tucson, this place would definitely be in my Yelp bookmarks for its hacienda-style charm and interesting menu including the cocktails. Our overnight stay at the Lodge provided us complimentary breakfast vouchers. For our 7:00 AM meal (the earliest they opened), we all chose what our waitress described as a hot Mexican lasagna which came with a side of beans and seasoned potatoes. Before that we received a small bowl of fresh fruit and a muffin. The coffee was served hot and fresh. Replenished often. You'll enjoy your choice of indoor dining where the place is adorned with Southwestern art, large painted potted plants, and solid wood beams in the ceiling... or the pleasant outdoor patio with heated lamps and a fireplace in the chilly morning (and presumably evening) air. I regret not ordering a poolside margarita and an appetizer from here the night before. Hope to be back soon someday. read more

Stopped by here for dinner with a party of 9. Staff was friendly and very attentive ( they charge a mandatory gratuity of 20% for large parties) I had the southwest salad with grilled chicken. One of the best tasting salads. So much flavor. read more

Very pleasant atmosphere, outside in the shade with misters overhead. Ben was a great server. We were there b4 5:00 so we started with a margarita and some guacamole. The guacamole was ordinary and a small serving so we ordered some fundido. It was excellent! For dinner my wife ordered the lodge pasta, it was very good. I had branzino with a lima bean sauce, it was perfect. Other than the guacamole this was a five star. read more

What a beautiful restaurant with outstanding service and food. We had the mango margarita and green corn tamales. Top notch!!! For dessert we split a pecan cheesecake. Another bit of decadence! I am a member of the Tucson Yacht Club. I am also a professional event planner. We held our annual Christmas dinner at Cielo's located within The Lodge on The desert. All of the guests were amazed at the beautiful room that was decorated, the incredible food ordered from their menu and the attentive and kind service from Michael Iorio and his staff. The members kept saying how they were going to bring their family to dine there during the holidays. Service was 5 star, we did not have to wait more than one minute for a request to be granted. I was thinking, "maybe we are the only group". I peaked in the restaurant area and it was also completely full. I highly recommend to plan something with Mike and Cielo's at the Lodge on the desert. read more

We enjoyed a breakfast and a dinner. Many options for breakfast buffet. Our favs were the spicy bacon, fresh fruit, muffins and crepes. For dinner, we chose the flank steak with scallops, all scallops, and chicken entrees. Beautifully served! Guests shared there was just one scallop served with the steak, a bit disappointed. The cheesecake was delicious. read more

I've been here a couple of times and sat in the bar area. The food and service in the bar area is great. It's nice to see well made, quality dishes served at a approachable price point in a nicer setting. This is a good place for dates, business meetings, or visiting guest from out of town. read more

Here for dinner on a Monday evening, a great patio with a fireplace and heat lamps. It's a part of the Desert Lodge Hotel but you can easily make a reservation. Amanda was our server, she was a peach but service was really slow. I ordered the lamb chops to start, they came out cold... and the shady lemonade or something along those lines and it could've used a bit more sugar. I also ordered the short rib which came with potatoes, with brussel sprouts and it came with a wine like reduction sauce. I nibbled but I'm hoping it'll be better as a leftover lol. read more

Nice spot for New Years dinner. They had a live band and once people started dancing so did I. Honestly, for the price I think the food was OK. The octopus was OK, the salmon was OK, and so were the tacos. Not gonna lie, but the dessert was next level! read more

I have dined here twice. Once a crowded Friday night, I went with my neighbor and found there was music on the patio, which had strings of lights. My neighbor and I had monsoon margaritas at the bar and had salad. Great night. Tonight I picked this spot for dinner, completely forgetting my first visit. My fiancée was very excited and knew exactly what he planned to order. We had reservations but when we arrived they seated us without asking. It was a big anniversary, yet they sat us in the dining room without acknowledging our reservation. Since it's monsoon season, it smelled like the carpet got soaked and was aired out. When we sat down and ordered drinks, I remembered my first good visit. The drinks were wonderful, the monsoon margarita and grapefruit drink( a greyhound in a different glass). On impulse we ordered shrimp. As we enjoyed our drinks and ordered dinner we learned none of the items my fiancé planned to order are on the menu. Boo. The menu looks like it's for visitors from outside of Arizona, who want conservative entrees while on vacation. My cocktail had spice, the entries available for dinner didn't. Our shrimp starter came and it was a big plate of chips with salsa that had shrimp and avocado as an ingredient. We told our server we got the wrong item, we ordered sautéed shrimp; she said nope that's it. My fiancée immediately changed his order from the streak to the the bar menus' Lodge burger. As we sat chatting about the day, a nearby table was seated and was offered bread with oil. Our server didn't offer that us or her other tables, nor didn't she tell us about the menu, she confirmed what we wanted was no longer on the menu, then asked if we needed more time to decide. My food was hot and tasty but $24 dollars for two tamales with a few strips of green chile on the bottom, is not for me. My fiancée's burger was over cooked and not medium rare as requested. We weren't asked if our food was ok, she came back asking if we wanted dessert. So this is the space to go to enjoy being outside on the patio and enjoy beer or cocktails. I have had great food at community events from chefs from the Lodge on Desert. This menu was safe, and conservative with a southwest name or red/green/ yellow chips to make it Southwestern. So I imagine many travelers will be happy eating here, since the outdoor patio is a sight to behold. This meal experience was lacking, by the appetizers' deceptive description, our ho-hum server, and the high prices for basic items of a burger, green chile tamales, chips n salsa, two drinks running 96 dollars. It might just be a consequence of the time, to keep things opened and running. Our server was not busy, but didn't care that we weren't wanting chips with shrimp salsa, when we thought we were ordering sautéed shrimp. I guess she must deal every day with customers wanting food that isn't available during the hot Tucson summer. It breaks my heart, that I picked this place. I wasted a chance to enjoy a fine meal at so many other places. With Tucson being a UNESCO city, there is little reason to return. However for people traveling thru, this bland menu might be the comfort food for the weary midwestern vacationer. No spice, heat, or excitement with this menu selection. We didn't stay for dessert, which likely would have redeemed the meal. read more

Was glad to find a place taking reservations on Christmas, and this joint is located in a quaint resort. Price fixe menu, so there were fewer choices to make. Started with the mixed appetizer plate...various fruits, cheeses, and a delightfully spicy ceviche. Next up was the clam chowder, which was the best course of the evening. Smoky poblano and charred corn studded the creamy soup with minced clams...delicious! For the main it was a glazed salmon on a bed of puréed sweet potato and haricot vert. Salmon was over cooked with skin on and tough, which results in dry fishy flavor. The sweet potato was fabulous, so I had to pair each bite with the moisture and flavor to compensate for the fish. Final course was the cheesecake, which was served nearly frozen through and with a minimum of the fruit sauce. Ambiance is southwest hacienda, waitstaff was not attentive or timely, and prices were not in line with price or expectation(and tip was automatically added to the bill). Disappointed...This joint does not make the list. read more

Cielos restaurant is like a speak easy located in Santa Fe but located in Tucson. It's located in the same location as Lodge On The Desert. The entrance meanders through the land of cacti, burros and plants. The patio transports you to a welcoming place filled with a water fountain and a fire place that resembles a desert clock tower. All of this would be enough to get the taste buds jumping and raising the dinner expectations to a stratosphere level but we were here for the food. This is where the world of rainbows, arches, and burros disappears and we spiraled back to the hot desert terrain. I ordered an local amber ale and it was a tasty start. We decided to order the mussels with chorizo as an appetizer. The mussels were well cooked and the sauce was super tasty but the chorizo was just super salty and off putting. We did however run out of bread and this is when our excitement took a turn for the better: a basket of warm bread hit our table and all we could do was get lost in the savory wet bread that brought Cielos back to Par. However, we were told by our friendly waitress that the bread was not baked by the restaurant but imported from a bakery called Barrio bread. This is where Cielos took a turn for the worst: the bread was illegitimate? How dare they! The best thing in our experience wasn't even theirs? I ordered the pork roast for my main course. It came with a whole back yard of black beans and a "Mexican" rice that tasted like plastic. The pork sauce did have a good flavor but the overall texture was one simple flat note! I guess the worst thing about my plate was the fact that visually it looked like a 1060's TV dinner. It was visually hard to look at and admit that it is yours! I was disappointed with my dinner and left the rice and the black beans untouched and asked for an appropriate burial to that depressing dish! My wife had the Arizona cut strip steak and visually it was easy on the eyes but the overall consensus was that it lacked flavor and like ability. For desert we ordered the custard filled churros with ice cream. Having had traditional churros many a times over the years. The filling gave the hard churros a slimey off putting texture. Cielos is a place I wanted to love but the experience was both exhausting and disappointing. I started Cielos at 4 stars and the stars kept crashing as the meal progressed. Instead of me reaching for the Cielos I reached for the exit and never looked back. read more

Never been here before but wanted to try this place since I was on this side of town the other day. My friend and I sat at the bar area due to the inside dinning area's A/C was broken. We ordered the avocado and shrimp salsa for appetizer and for entree the garlic tomato pasta - i thought it lacked flavor and was a bit greasy for my liking. The steak, my friend ordered, he stated it was good (ordered it medium rare) over all I give it three stars, possibly giving it another try later in the future. read more

Food, it was okay. Service, was okay. Ambiance, eh, not so much. Gate Keeper, pretty rude and not helpful. Cocktails, super slow to get. Cleanliness, nope, pretty bad, awful to be honest. and Parking, Oh Hell No!!!! I won't go back mostly because of Parking. The spaces are so teeny that it's impossible for you to get out of your car and in an area where there are so few spaces there are even way fewer handicapped spaces and yet they allow camping trailers to park in the car spaces. Nope, never again. 4 Christmas Buffet's, with tip, $500. read more

The presentation of our meals were attractive. The short rib mole was tender and it fell apart nicely but the sauce was less velvety and tasted unbalanced. The sauce itself had a certain ingredient that was over powering. If it contained ground clove that's all I could taste. It was served warm vs hot. I was more impressed by the sides than the short rib itself. The tomato bisque was chunky and very sharp, it resembled marinara sauce. The cocktails were 5/10 only because they were made in house. Their ingredients weren't fresh. Store bought lime juice and simple syrup. The artificial taste of the store bought lime juice didn't give our margaritas the citrusy character you find in most "made from scratch" cocktails. Overall the service was poor. I had to ask for everything. The bar manager could have been more attentive. They didn't refill our water, they didn't offer us a second drink. We weren't offered desert. We had to ask for our check. I was very disappointed given that this restaurant was highly reviewed. I cannot recomendable this restaurant to highly enthused because you'll be greatly disappointed. read more

The food was amazing and really tasted fresh. The guacamole was actually pretty delicious and great combo with the seasoned chips. The fajita plate and pasta had great mixtures of flavor with what seemed to be hand made tortillas. Presentation was lovely and customer service was wonderful. Prices were a bit expensive but worth it seeing as the food was actually good and fresh. I would maybe knock down the guac and chips to like $6-7, didn't get a whole lot for $9. Definitely going back for dinner service. read more

I really like the food and the ambience at Cielos. True, they maybe a tad pricey but taking into account the whole "experience" makes this restaurant worth it. Went here to have a celebratory dinner with the fam and had a great time. However, Cielos is probably better as a fine dining/date night/romantic dinner spot. The lights strewn across the outdoor seating really ties the place together. We ordered the grilled lamb chops and octopus as starters, then scallops and short rib for entrees. The flavors were great but the portions seem small for the prices. But then I guess that's kinda how it goes for a lot of "fine dining" restaurants. Definitely a great local place though. read more

This is an unassuming gem and seemingly comes out of nowhere in the neighborhood. The covered outdoor garden has a nice atmosphere for dinner, including an outdoor fireplace (and heaters). Cocktails were nicely done and all of the meal was prepared very nicely. We had salmon, barramundi and steak and all were fresh and tasty! Service was friendly, although they forgot all our starters and just brought the mains. I was a bit skeptical because this is attached to a hotel, but overall very pleasantly surprised. read more

I've dined here for dinner twice. Both times, the food was very good, although it does seem a bit expensive for the amount of food you get. For example, last night my husband and I got the guacamole appetizer ($9) and we received an avocado half full of guacamole and a limited amount of chips. No doubt it was delicious, but the serving seemed small. We also enjoyed happy hour. They have some deals on beers, $5 house red and White wines, and their house margarita is $7. My husband and I each tried the margarita--it was good, but also on the salty side. It did go perfectly with the chips and guacamole. For my entree I got the chipotle chicken. It was delicious! I devoured all of it. My husband got the Sonoran steak, I think that's what it's called, and he was a little disappointed. He had gotten it before and loved it but this time the steak seemed smaller and the corn was pretty pitiful. The potatoes are absolutely amazing though. On a previous visit, I tried the green Chile tamales and loved them. Also, each entree is served with a house salad, and that did seem like a very small salad this time. The house dressing though, a roasted red pepper vinaigrette, was delicious. We tried the mudslide for dessert and it was definitely yummy. Love the mix of caramel and chocolate. Service was friendly and attentive. We sat inside and while it's very nice, it was kind of eerily quiet. We will no doubt be back! A great restaurant to have on the premises of Lodge on the desert. read more

I had the mar y tierra, which is steak and crab cake alongside potatoes and greens. It's supposed to come with nopal but it was missing from the plates on my table. During my most recent visit for dinner, I had the pan seared barramundi. I had never tasted this type of fish before but was blown away by how flavorful it was. It was an incredible dish! 3.5 stars from me, it was good but some slight improvements would easily make this four star. We sat on the patio for Cinco de Mayo in comfortable semi-covered patio seating. There was live music next to us which was a little loud but not obnoxiously so. We had cocktails (great margaritas and old fashioneds) guac for the table, tasty but a small portion for more than 2 pp. Our table ordered Short Ribs (v.good), trout (excellent), crab stuffed poblano w/cheese (excellent choice for Keto dieters), and the tamales (a bit bland). Portions were ample for prices. I would have liked another cocktail midway through our meal but our server didn't appear again until our main entrees were done and by then it was too late. Overall it was a pleasant spot, great cocktails, good food and a fair price. Service could use some polishing but it was fine. Recommended. read more

We have been here twice. Both times were a good experience. The food tastes fresh. If you're not sure about a menu item just ask. I didn't follow my own advice, and their charcuterie plate didn't list cheese as an item, but it was served with a lot of cheese. (I'm lactose intolerant.) What an amazing dining experience! My fiancé and I went here for date night and were so pleasantly surprised by just how amazing this hidden gem is! We sat out on the patio right next to the fireplace! Because it was a little chilly the staff also put a heater by our table which was so sweet! We were able to view the fountain and enjoy the fireplace. Drink-wise we tried the habanero infused red wine which is a local Arizona wine and was so good! They brought out bread for the table with an olive oil/balsamic blend for dipping. Soup of the evening was a spicy tomato bisque which paired exquisitely with the wine. My fiancé ordered the tamales with chicken added for dinner and I had the citrus infused trout. Both entrees were divine! The freshness of the tamales were unmatched and the trout and succotash was so flavorful! For dessert we chose the jalapeño infused cheesecake which also went amazing with our wine selection!
