It's Green Chili Festival. What the heck, I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Chili Rellenos off the special menu. My server Scott T seems a little haggard & he just presented discount/gift cards to the next table & apologized for their long wait. We'll see. My drink came fast & he brought me the green sour cream salsa stuff I like but probably shouldn't eat. As I am dining alone I am writing this review like live play-by-play. My wife hates it when I Yelp in her presence, so I'll wax eloquent in her absence. My server Scott T is definitely working hard to impress the 8 attractive young ladies (20 - somethings) 2 tables away. I don't blame him. Wow-my food is already here! I hardly touched my chips. Good thing since this is a prodigious plate of powerful provisions-and served in less than 10 minutes since I ordered! Pausing to munch... Definitely not riding the diet wagon tonight. The Rellenos were great with bacon! One was very mild & the other was very spicy. Green chiles can be that way. The Green Chile rice was also great. Gotta stop! OK - food choice gets 5 stars. Scott also delivered great service. He isn't haggard, he's working hard to get everything right! Good job. Chuy's is a favorite of mine but don't expect real Tex Mex. Tex Mex never notices when Hatch green chiles are in season. Hatch is a town in New Mexico - and not even an area that was part of the old Republic of Texas. While in Tyler to visit with the wife's son and family, we treated everyone to a meal here. They were pretty busy but took our names and put together tables for our group of 8 adults and four children very quickly. Right off the bat I have to say the wait staff was great. Pleasant to deal with and quick to take care of things around the group. The food was pretty good, but the martinis the wife and I ordered tasted like all margarita mix with absolutely no alcohol. One of the worst drinks I have ever had. I ordered the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and the wife ordered the stuffed Chile relleno. My dinner was fair, but the wife's was very good. Probably the best thing was the creamy jalapeño sauce to go with the tortilla chips. But overall the great job by The wait staff made up for a good visit. Probably would not return though. read more

The food is excellent! Some foods are very spicy, but this is the way with every mexican food place. The inside is very interesting and neatly designed. I would recommend ordering the jalapeño ranch the next time you visit if you haven't tried it already. read more

My kids like the kids taco plate and I get the grilled shrimp tacos. It's always fresh and tasty but they could add a little more than four shrimps per taco would be nice. :) We ordered guacamole with our chips for the first time last night and it was awesome! read more

Nice portions but flavorless food. Very Generic from top to bottom. Of course I'm used to MiCocina, Javier's and Superior grill in Dallas and Shreveport when it comes to tex mex. So I guess that's hard to compete with. I don't see why that is but Chuys seems very "bla"... Also can remember really enjoying Chuy's off Knox in Dallas in Austin too so this leads me to believe it's just a Tyler thing. read more

Normally really like chuys food because it is usually very fresh. Had take out chicken chimichanga that was all dough and very little chicken. Very disappointing for 15$! Not recommended menu item. I hate to see chain restaurants forsake quality for food costs! read more

Can't go wrong with the fajitas borritos or the chicka-boom boom enchiladas. Great staff that is tentative of all your needs. The quest compuesto is a staple when we go, they also have a great happy hour with a nacho car complimentary during happy hour. Everything is fresh and made in house. Tex-Mex, decent prices, but not very flavorful. As with most Texas restaurants, there are large portions, but I sure would've liked more spices or other flavoring to bring some more personality to the food. Just relocated to Tyler from Sumter, SC. Was in the mood for some Mexican food and decided to give this place a try. The staff was very friendly and professional. I tried the beef burrito and got a strawberry mojhito. The food was great and the portions were decent. You definitely won't walk away hungry. read more

Best tacos ever. Best hot sauce in world. Noisy when crowded and frequently crowded. Brushfire chicken taco is savory hot to fiery if you add Diablo sauce. My wife likes the Salmon taco called the Orange??? Fast casual atmosphere so don't expect a relaxing time, but man when they invented flavor, Torchy's won the best choices. We come here often with my boys (who are 3,4, and 17) and always enjoy great service, consistently good food and quick execution. Inevitably we order fajitas, chickachickaboomboom, and kiddos get the most delicious chicken strips and fries. Their cucumber chili spicy Mexican martini is also a fave of my husband and I. Go to place for Tex-mex. I like splitting fajitas with my husband and my kids always get hamburgers or the crispy tacos. If we aren't sharing fajitas I love the relleno peppers or the chuychanga. Big as your face burrito with boom boom sauce is good too. I enjoy their adult drinks but their tea often has a burnt taste so I've quit having tea here. Another great meal at Chuy's! Our waiter was a young local college student named Ivy (like Poison Ivy, he told us). He was knowledgeable about the menu and very happy to bring us what we needed. We did not have to wait for drink refills! The food was great, starting with the fresh and spicy complimentary salsa. I ordered the chicken flautas. They were served with rice (Mexican or green chile) and your choice of refried beans or another bean side. The flautas were tasty and lightly crispy. The sides were quite good as well. Now.... so as far as food taste goes it was good, but not great. I say this because I live in Austin Texas and am a Expert Chuy's eater (lol). Onto the review: My daughter and I got seated very quickly (which was very nice on a Sunday afternoon and definitely not what its like in Austin on Sunday.. so 10 points alone for that!) and our server got to us pretty quickly. Now this is where I have bad notes to put in.. our server took our drinks down and got my order for a small quac down. But after I got drinks and quac (more on that later) I didn't see him again. So the food that we ordered only took about 15-20 min to get. Again not bad.. BUT my nachos were not exactly how I am used to them. I ordered a half order of nachos with their sautéed veggies and my daughter ordered the kids burrito with rice and beans (inside). No cheese and tomatoes on the side.. So my nachos didn't have really sautéed veggies on them and there was no quac on the nachos. The presentation of the food and the ratio of everything was all off. Again I know my nachos since this is a staple of what I order. Even the small quac that I ordered was 90% lettuce and happen to have one scoop of quac on top ($3.99 my butt!). So my daughter's burrito was falling apart (never happens here) and my food was meh. Also no tomatoes were on the side and once I ate 10% of my quac it became liquid lettuce (eww). BUT when I needed to say something to my waiter about the lack of everything.. he was no where to be found.. (this is where it gets positive).. I happen to stop a wonderful waitress name SAM (girl if your reading this.. thank you again!).. She literally handled everything.. got the manager to replace my quac and checked on us throughout the whole meal. She was so sweet and understood that everything wasn't on the level it should of been. So my daughter and I tipped her because she deserved it :) ... I say if you can request to have her as your waitress then do so! Not that this location doesn't have merit.. they just aren't on the level I am used too. The food didn't taste bad.. I just know now what to do and how to ask for it when I do come back to that part of Texas. So again Thank you Sam, and thank you manager for fixing my quac issue! read more

I'm pretty much a burrito fanatic, I probably eat one every couple of days. Overall I'd say Chuy's is just "pretty good" it's not going to totally suck but it's also not going to knock your socks off either. I'd go back again for sure, why not? We had a nice, but fairly standard tasting Mexican meal. Tasty guacamole, yummy salsas, a good burrito with fresh ingredients, my friends let me try their tacos - also not bad at all. So here's the problem with this place. The Cadillac with the open trunk. I watched people build nacho platters then go back to their seats where they drank waters. So essentially people are eating there for free. It was a disqusting mess. We walked out about 10 min after getting there. It was like a frat party so loud you could have a conversation. Went to on the border where it's clean, waiters are super nice, food is fantastic. Chuys can keep their baby sitting club house. We'll go elsewhere. read more
