I have enjoyed Chuys for years. My favorite Mexican restaurant in Knoxville. Unfortunately had one of the worst experiences of my life there tonight. A very rude customer leaned in to my personal space under a wrong assumption I was supporting Trump. Which is my business any way had I been. He inserted himself uninvited into a private conversation. He told me " Your man lost by 7 million bitch get over it!". I followed him to admonish his horrible behavior. Probably admittedly misguided. Reminded him this is still a country of free speech to my knowledge. The next thing I knew the manager told me to leave. This was our first time in this place. Had heard so much about it we finally came to try it. We tried the salsa and chips they bring you first... the salsa ingredients were clearly fresh but the taste... OMG... it was EXTREMELLY salty! It tasted like someone dumped by accident the whole box of salt in it! The waitress brought us a new one, but told us they tweaked it but it was from the same batch... CLEARLY... it was still horrible! I truly could not tell you how the rest of or meal was because everything after that tasted salty. I pressured my husband into eating at Chuy's because of all the rave reviews we'd heard from family and friends. Now I am feeling guilty for it. The service was good. Nothing exceptional, but the hostess and waitress were friendly and our food arrived in a very timely manner. No complaints there. I ordered the Southwestern Enchiladas and my husband had the Chicken Flautas. The chicken in both was dry, bland, and flavorless. I felt it needed to be soaked or marinated in some kind of flavoring/sauce. His flautas were basically equivalent to frozen chicken taquitos. No special flavor or taste whatsoever. The rice was dry and the refried beans seemed obviously canned. The only thing they had going for them was the very tasty salsa and jalepeno dip that comes with the chips. ALSO, they have a full service bar, but NO draft beer. How is that possible? We were disappointed in the food. We have checked this one off the list and won't be back. read more

Been to Chuy's twice since Florence, KY opening. Chips and salsa are fantastic. Chips are thin and not greasy. Salsa is fresh and not "ketchupy" could be a little warm for some tastes. Food portions are generous. Food I had was very good but this can depend on the sauce you choose for your entree. Individual tastes will of course vary. Enchiladas, chili rellenos, steak and chicken fajitas were all excellent with ranchero and "boom boom" sauce. The latter suggested by our server as a house specialty ( not nearly as hot as it sounds ). Service was friendly and attentive but not bothersome. Atmosphere is lively with a tropical Mexican theme. Defiantly worth a try but I recommend first timers to read menu sauce descriptions or ask for a taste, The staff is happy to get you one. Recently tried Chuy's for lunch on a Saturday. This was the first time we had been there. We really like the decorations and the nice bar area. I had a roasted chicken burrito and the wife had the Chuychanga. Both were nicely presented and tasted good. The burrito, however was not the best I have ever had. There wasn't a good deal of chicken inside and a good portion of the size seemed to come from the tortilla which was wrapped up on the bottom. The portions I would end up with on my fork would would wind up being about half consisting of tortilla. The green chile sauce was quite good and spicy as was the green chile rice. The salsa was very fresh and tasty as well and we liked the thinner chips. Service was OK, but spotty...not spectacular. We plan on giving it another try soon and possibly during happy hour in the bar for the added free snacks they put out during that time. read more

I have eaten in and it was clean and they separate you from other diners. I had the best chimichanga, or chuyichanga I think they call it. You get nice crispy thin chips that come with fresh salsa and creamy jalapeño sauce (the salsa is spicier). I could drink that jalapeño sauce it is so good and not hot like the name would suggest- it tames the spicy salsa. Also the refried beans are the best I have ever had. Usually the rice and beans in a Mexican restaurant are bland afterthoughts, but not here, they are good enough to make a meal out of on their own. I tried the pick up today and got the nachos to go and it was enough to feed 4 people (maybe 6 if you don't have big eaters). You get a good size container of ground meat and queso and then smaller containers of those yummy refried beans, salsa and jalapeño dip. I am looking forward to trying the other family take home entrees they have. I love this place. read more

We were visiting our daughter and her boyfriend for the Holiday. We had just got in town from Iowa. Our daughter was waiting for our visit to go there. This is our new favorite place in Northern Ky! We had to wait a bit for our seats so we went in the bar. I asked for a chocolate martini. It was not on the menu but the bartender whipped me up one. It was wonderful! When we did sit, the waiter was very attentive and made suggestions. I had the lime Margarita per his suggestion and it was fantastic. The salsa, chips and homemade tortilla are to die for! I wanted to take some home! I had the chicken fajita taco with Mexican rice! OMG! That was the best taco I ever had! I wish there was one around eastern Ia. read more

After hearing good things about here I decided to try it with a few others. To begin we were not seated but told by the host to simply pick a spot. Then the chips and salsa were beyond salty to where you could not even eat them. The waitress brought us more that were better, but it was a terrible way to start the meal. After ordering our food it came as ordered and hot, but was mediocre at best. Clearly the tortillas are made fresh but the food had very little taste overall. When the bill came we realized that normal things like extra sour cream were charged extra such as a dollar for one dollop. When leaving we asked for to-go cups (since we paid for refills) but were told they were out. It was a fitting end to a lackluster meal. Overall, the service was excellent with a very attentive waitress but the food left much to be desired and was over priced. I will not be returning. read more

I've worked in food service and enjoy trying new places and comparing foods from different places with similar menus Food is a big part of culture and life for my family. So i was excited to eat some place new but honestly we will probably never eat here again. While the food was good and the manager was very nice and helpful as well as the other staff. Our waitresses, Cassie, had rude behavior, slamming dishes and being upset about a %15 percent tip that was left for the table just made us unhappy. Even my 8 year old son felt she was rude and mean when we where basically shewed out the door by her while waiting on the rest of our dinner party to come from the bathroom. Two ladies where really close talking at the bar and we where about 4 or 5 ft away when she told us 6 ft 6ft and was quite rude about it. Even doing the shewing motion with her hands. We hadn't realized we where so close. Our dinner party was a a co-parenting family & we wanted to all spend a good dinner together. So my review is good bc of food quality and management but bad for experience. we won't be back. read more

I've dined at the original Chuy's in Austin and it's a great, fast, cheap authentic TexMex institution. This one has all the charm of McDonald's. Our waiter was nice, but kept forgetting what we ordered for drinks. It was a difficult order: a Coke and a Margarita. Our food took forever and we had to ask another server for silverware. My food was cold.. and had obviously been sitting in a window for a while. The tacos fell apart, they were so soaking wet. When I complained, our server obviously wrote us off. So a group of my friends like to get together every year around the holiday and do dinner, usually at someones house but this year we decided "lets go out and support a business". We had heard nice things about a business called Chuys a tex mex chain restaurant that opened in florence. So we agreed we'd go there. Kellie (the organized friend) called a week before the date of 12-16-12 (the intended friendsmas dinner date) and spoke with someone on the phone at the florence chuys. Kellie explained "i have a group of 10 who would like your large party table for 12-16" the chuys employee said we don't take reservations but call the day of and we'll do a call ahead". So kellie satisfied with this answer waited till 12-16 she called around 1pm spoke with someone on the phone at the florence chuys and said "i called a week ago and was informed to do a call ahead b/c i'm coming in with a party of 10 and i would like your large party table for 6:30pm tonight" the voice said "thank you so much for the call we'll see you at 6:30" at 6:10pm my husband and i show up i say to the young teen working the check in stand "my friend called in earlier for a party of 10 it would either be under kellie or ____" she looked at me like i had 2 heads and while slouching and leaning on the counter she rolls her eyes and says "we don't take reservations" so i walk out call kellie to confirm she called ahead she said yes so i go back in and ask to speak to a manager. Once again the sloppy teen with her drooping side ponytail and stained and at one point white tshirt says "i'll see if i can get one". after a few minutes a manager approaches me i inform him what i was told he looks at me like i have two heads i inform him "the girl at the counter wasn't pleasant and looked at me like i have two heads kind of like you are now". he laughed in a condescending way and said "let me talk to the day time managers they are both here and i'll be back" 30 mins go by that "manager" (if you'd like to call him one) walked by TWICE!!! and never once stopped to tell me what was going on. So finally i give up all of our party is now in the lobby with us and getting frustrated so i call "el rio grande" just a 1/4 mile up from chuys i ask "is your large party table available if i come up in 5 mins?" the voice on the other end says "yes! see you soon!!" so everyone heads up but my husband and i b/c my husband would like to inform the "manager" that we spoke to that he gave us poor customer service. After a min of searching for him my husband stops this manager explains "our party of 10 is going to another restaurant bc of the poor customer service we received here. We spoke to you 35mins ago and you said you'll be right back and you never came back and spoke to us" the manager responds with "we'll have a table ready in like a few mins dude" my husband said "wouldn't that have been nice to come back and tell us so we would know you were arranging tables" manager - "eh maybe, yeah." husband - "well we are taking our business elsewhere b/c of the poor customer service" manager - "dude we'll have a table in 5mins" husband - "no thanks" manager - "okay whatever dude" so to say the least we'll never give this chain our business and we'll continue to give our business to local companies b/c they seem to understand the importance of Customer Service. read more

As a Texan, born and raised- I was beyond thrilled when I saw a Chuy's 5 minutes away from my new job. I've eaten Chuy's many times throughout Texas- and this one is every bit as delicious! Most "Mexican" in Ohio or Kentucky has red enchilada sauce on EVERY item. The best part (to me) about Chuy's is the diversity in sauces for each meal- and you can change what automatically comes with your meal for whatever tickles your fancy. There are many spicy options on the menu, but the waitstaff is generally very good about making sure a spicy meal is what you're wanting. The chips and salsa are the best in town: the chips are fresh, light, and airy. The salsa is made on the hour, so it's always very fresh.. and the creamy jalapeno.... YUM! The fajitas are total Tex-Mex: grilled steak or chicken cut and placed on a bed of sautéed onions and peppers. The meat is not cooked in a sauce- and there are no stewed tomatoes (Hurray!). As I visit my fave restaurant, Chuy's, at least once a week- I've tried everything on the menu... and there are only 3 things that I personally will not order again. But I HIGHLY recommend anyone interested in Tex-Mex to try it out!!! YUMMY!!! read more

Had the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Came in around 7:30pm. The restaurant was not overly full. Being Celiac, I had a couple questions before ordering. I ordered straight off the gluten free menu. Food took about 15 mins to come out. Not a problem....until my plate was served with gluten filled rice on it. This should have been caught before the plate left the kitchen, but I still was not upset. I then sat there and waited and waited and waited some more... My husband's food was correct and he sat uncomfortably eating his food slowly, trying to wait on mine. 25 minutes later, nobody had come to fill our drinks, nobody came to check on us... I finally went to find management. He apologized for the delay and assured me my food would be out soon. 10 minutes later, my plate was served wrong yet again! My husband was done eating by now. I got 2 screwed up plates and wasn't taking chances with a third try... My health is worth more to me than that. As an apology, the manager comped our meal (I had water and chips... Both free) and we were given a coupon for a free meal but seeing it's only good here in Florence, KY and we live in Charleston, SC... That was worthless too. Won't be back... Guess I should have heeded the 2.5 star rating. Lesson learned. read more

An area where you fill your little bowls w/ different dipping they have salsa, refried beans, cheese, and meat ... Cnt remember what else but it's good. Bad experience overall. Hostess sent me to a bar table since I was by myself. Sat there for 15 minutes with no service before some kid told me I could only order appetizers and drinks at that table...so I moved to the bar. Squeezed in to a bar stool between some fat people and ordered tortilla soup and fish tacos. Food took forever to come out, and was lukewarm when it arrived. Tortilla soup was the worst I've ever had....even the broth was wrong. Fish tacos were edible but far from enjoyable. This place is a waste of time and money, go somewhere else. read more

My wife and I went there last week. The place was not busy at supper time and now we know why. The hostess's were the only thing nice there. The waitress was nice but she had no clue of how to be a waitress. We were there for an hour and only got 1 drink. The eating utensils were dirty and I had to track down an employee to get clean one. The food was not good at all, they use canned refried beans and box rice. a 5 yr old can make that and call it authentic Mexican food. If you are looking for an authentic Mexican meal, Chuy's is not where you want to be. With that being said, Chuy's IS a great place for delicious Tex-Mex. All of the meals are rather large so keep that in mind when you are eyeballing the appetizers and desserts, which are also huge and delicious. If you are a margarita fan, which I'm assuming you are since you're going to a Tex Mex place, then definitely try theirs. They are HUMONGOUS! But don't be shocked when you get the bill, the run about 10 bucks each, you definitely only need one though so it works out. The most important thing I can tell you about Chuy's is GET THE CREAMY JALAPEÑO. When you sit down and they bring you the chips and salsa, look the waitress in the eye and ask for creamy jalapeño. She will know what you mean and bring you a dish of the most delicious dip/sauce you have ever had. But pace your self! Save some for your burrito when you get it ;) read more

This place is fabulous. I've lived in California, Phoenix, Vegas, and all of these cities offer amazing mexican food. That being said, Chuy's has the best chips and dip I've ever tasted (especially the creamy Jalapeno)! Their tortillas are also the best I've ever had.
