Wife & I ordered the shrimp fajitas for two last night. Waited approx 25+ minutes for the food. Fajitas finally came however the shrimp and veggies looked and tasted like everything was boiled and soggy. Definitely not the way Shrimp fajitas should be. The shrimp and veggies also were tasteless. Chips that were provided during the wait were also hard and seemed stale. What happened to this place?! What a waste of our time and money! So the first few photos has great reviews. We don't eat in a lot, we prefer to pick up otw home from work for the family. This use to be a fav of ours (the salsa is literally my fav salsa in my area of restaurants and there are a lot!) but each visit they seem to forget more and more. For a place with a free salsa bar they are the WORST on forgetting stuff. So today I placed an order, you usually get a teeny tiny salsa and a bag of chips complimentary.... I ordered 5x side of extra salsa (which I was charged for) I received two salsas one tiny bag of chips. This is literally what I get complimentary at most restaurants, and you charged me extra?!?!? Anyways the hostess/waitress totally went and got me my extra salsas and another bag of chips. God love her. I left and realized omg they didn't give me my kids sopapilla (sorry if I misspelled). I had to turn around and go back. Again the lady was sweet as can be. She got my dessert and threw in some queso. But then I get home. The order for Al pastor tacos..... Said steak cooked in a spicy salsa..... nope it was dry unseasoned steak in a corn tortilla with a bunch of canned pineapples. The order I placed said it was served with pico and tomatillo sauce (received neither), and like I said COVERED in canned pineapple tidbits..... did not say that in the description. And again NO SAUCES.... My son gets mozzarella cheese sticks.... NO MARINARA like it said in the description.... The cheese sticks were so over done the breading was empty.... We stopped by on a whim, and boy were we so pleasantly surprised!!! We've been to many Mexican and TexMex places so we assumed this would be not much different. WRONG! The menu has so many more options--including my favorite horchata beverage! The salsa was so delicious, as were the refried beans, and everything else. The service is fantastic! This place has a huge menu and delicious food. We were a party of five with five different items. I ordered the enchilada rancheros. Three enchiladas beef chicken and cheese with enchilada sauce all over. Yummy. We had steak fajitas Mexican stew build your own and shrimp enchilada. Everyone was happy. I met a friend here on a Friday night. I was served with chips, salsa, and bean dip (sauce?) as soon as I sat down. Our server came by and I ordered a jalapeño margarita with a sugar rim, and was served a house margarita with a salt rim. It's no big deal since I still drank it and overall it was good, but it wasn't what I ordered. The server was gone for 5 minutes, granted it was starting to get busy, so I just drank it and didn't ask for it to be fixed. The food came out very quick and it was very good. You would think that a normal fajita salad, in the crunchy taco bowl with all the gooey goodness, one that you would get at any Mexican dinner. However it was dry and on a bed of lettuce, with minimal toppings. Mine, I could barely eat. Carnitas En Salsa Verde. Carnitas simmered in verde. It was brimming the plate in orange grease. It took me 5-6 filled napkins to slush the grease out. It seeped into the rice and beans. I could barely eat it. Plus I'm pretty sure it was beef with all the fat attached. If I ate that -they would have to call an ambulance for cardiac arrest. I never seem "carnitas" so bathed in grease! Take your money elsewhere. read more

I've now eaten here twice and loved both experiences. The atmosphere is beautiful and busy. It's a fun spot to enjoy a great meal and the drinks are delicious too. They offer several vegetarian options with minus the cheese could be vegan. I've had their vegetarian fajitas and the vegetarian nachos. Both are delicious and I would recommend them. Their chips and salsa are good too. They also include a bean dip which I've not had elsewhere and it's yummy. A great place for a good meal. I keep coming back for more! read more

I don't know how it took me so long to swing by Valle Escondido ... but I'm so glad I finally did! My husband and I stopped in on a Friday night around 7 p.m., and were able to snag a table right away, despite the restaurant being quite busy. We each ordered a medium margarita on the rocks ... and were shocked when we were served some of the largest margaritas we've ever seen! I can't even imagine what the "large" size looks like. We could have easily shared - but you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to the flavor and strength of the drink. For dinner, we shared their Texas Fajitas for Two, which come with chicken, steak, and shrimp. This was an insane amount of food! We took most of our meal home, which made for great leftovers the next day. Our service was fast and friendly - and the complimentary chips and salsa were plentiful. I also love that Valle Escondido is locally owned, with four locations across the Tri-State. We'll definitely return the next time we're craving margs and fajitas! read more

This is the best Mexican food I've ever eaten east of the Mississippi, no doubt. I don't want to talk it up too much in fear of getting your hopes too high - but wow. The Texas Margarita was delicious with fresh fruit to garnish it. The bean dip that came out with the salsa was excellent, but the fajitas chimichangas were what dreams are made of. Service on a Friday was really good, but we sat at the bar to hopefully get served quicker and it seemed to have worked flawlessly. The bartender was very nice and checked on us an appropriate amount. Valle Escondido is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area! Coming from the west coast where great Mexican food can be found everywhere, that says a lot. We come here anytime we're craving Mexican food, sometimes just the two of us, sometimes we bring family and friends. There is a large bar with plenty of seating, but it's always packed in the evenings. The restaurant does not take reservations, so it's best to arrive a little earlier than the dinner rush begins, or plan to wait a little while for a table. I always seem to order the steak fajitas and they are consistently great. They also have a Texas fajitas platter which includes steak, chicken, and shrimp. I don't eat beans, and they are always happy to accommodate my request to give me extra rice instead of the beans. My husband loves the Molé and almost always orders that. Family and friends have also enjoyed their tacos and burritos. They have a large menu and everything we've tried so far has been delicious. They appear to be fully staffed, and their service is typically pretty quick and always friendly. Give them a try, you'll love it! read more

We came out here on the recommendation of friends who lived nearby who sang their praises. And they were absolutely correct! This place was a great evening. It is very festive and even though it was mostly full, we were seated in about 10 minutes. Very friendly service and besides the typical chips and salsa, they also give you another dip that I'm not quite sure what it was. Something that was a little more creamy. I had the shrimp fajitas which could have used a little bit more kick. I asked for their house hot sauce and it definitely did the trick! With the onions and the peppers and the shrimp combined with the guacamole, it made for an excellent dinner! All my friends enjoyed their food as well. Tried this place for the first time last night, and was very pleasantly surprised. It was hopping busy for a Tuesday night but we had no wait for a table. The menu options were pretty typical, but the food was not -- it was far superior to most Mexican restaurants we have visited. I make some killer carnitas but the ones I ordered last night were truly amazing and worthy of great respect. My wife ordered the pollo con chorizo and it was likewise excellent. And the guacamole was made fresh before our eyes at our table side. This could be the best Mexican restaurant in greater Cincinnati and it's in Union, KY! The portions are huge! Their margaritas are gigantic and made with fresh lime juice and ripe fruit garnish. It's the small details that set apart good Mexican food from great Mexican food. The refried beans are an example of this as they add their own special seasoning giving an otherwise boring refried bean dish a tasty boost in flavor! The chicken in the enchiladas are seasoned differently than other Mexican restaurants making them really stand out with bold, delicious flavor. There are no bland tastes here!! read more

Such a disappointment. This place was great when they opened and has gotten worse every time since. Today is the last time I will spend money here. Our server was clueless. We asked for corn tortillas and he brought flour, explained again and he said yes they were flour. He couldn't get that she needed corn. Plus my meal was cold. The manager just sat at the table where they all hang out and laugh and giggle instead of helping customers. They did the same the last time we were here. There service has declined 90% since opening. We sat 15 min before being greeted. Drinks were wrong and took over 5 min to get. The appetizer was brought out after the main course and no one seemed to have any concern. Sad that yet another place in Union is no longer viable. read more

I have been been here many times. The menu is the typical U.S type of Mexican food. Everything that I have tried is good. I am not sure that any one item stands out as their signature dish. It seems to be crowded most evenings but I have never had to wait over twenty minutes for a seat. We eat here probably once per month and it's always been great, however something was off today. Our family had dinner there today and everyone noticed the meat was different. My parent's chicken fajitas looked like a pile of ground chicken with barely cooked onions and peppers, not grilled strips of chicken like you would expect. My sister got steak nachos and the steak was ground up and watery. They put no cheese on nachos (!) so she had to request they bring cheese. My husband and I got chicken burritos (Burritos Tequila and Burrito Verde). Again the chicken inside was ground up with a weird texture. We've gotten these same burritos at least 10 times previously in the last 2 years and they're usually very good. My sister spoke to manager who said other diners complained of the same issue today with the meat!. He said they cooked the chicken, froze it, then heated it back up which is why it was watery. Honestly it seemed like they ground all the meat in a blender for some reason. The manager did not charge my parent's for their fajitas and discounted some of our bill for the other dishes. We've never had a bad experience at Valle Escondido in the past. I hope they make adjustments in the kitchen. We will give them another chance in the future since this seemed like an isolated incident. read more
