This is a really fun place to eat! My girlfriend did not introduce me to Chuy's, but she has helped me appreciate the food and atmosphere here. Being that I have taken her here for her birthday and eaten here on several other occasions, it is time for my input. The homemade baskets of chips are utterly addictive. Now, the salsa they provide the table is solid and spicy, but the best thing to dip the chips in is the creamy jalapeno sauce! You have to request it, but they are very good about replenishing the bowls and giving you enough to pour on your entree if desired. This is definitely a unique feature of this place to distinguish itself from the competition. The entrees are about your standard southwestern fare, with loads of rice and beans to complement most meals. I got the big boy steak burrito on my last visit and was barely able to finish it (probably partially filled on chips). Portions are generous and you could get another meal from one order if you pace yourself right or aren't super hungry when you come. We also got house margaritas for national margarita day which complemented everything. Can't wait to return for some more deliciousness! Why do I not come to chuy's more often? EXCELLENT SALSA. The salsa was Super spicy and really fresh which I love and isn't something you find at most restaurants. Our server AMY was FABULOUS!! Day after Christmas but I was served cold food. Additionally they were either understaffed or incompetent or both because I counted 3 cleared tables in each section that nobody was seated at, with a 1.5 hour wait for 2 people. Also they only serve 2 things here: tacos and enchiladas. read more

I work as a food delivery driver and this place is very popular and always busy. I took that as a good sign, so my wife and I decided to give it a try. The good: The service, the waitress was friendly, attentive, and was the perfect professional, made the experience very enjoyable. I'm sorry I forgot her name, but she's a petite middle age white woman. She needs a raise. The Salsa was the best I ever had, because I like a spicy salsa and their salsa has a bite too it. The churro bites were pretty good. My wife's margarita was very good. The bad: Unfortunately it was the food. All of the food lacked flavor and seasoning. The ground beef was bland, so therefore everything I had that contained ground beef suffered. Beef enchiladas, bland, ground beef taco, bland . Then, there was the chicken enchilada. When I cut into it and saw the pieces of chicken in it, I thought to myself....."Oooh, Nooio" I could visibly tell that the chicken had no seasoning at all. It was porcelain white....appeared to have been boiled in unseasoned water, but I still have to taste it to be sure. The chicken was worse than the ground beef. If I were blind folded and given a piece, I couldn't guess what it was because it had no taste. The prices are reasonable, and are what you would expect at a Mexican restaurant. The plating was appealing, and make you want to start eating the food immediately, but unfortunately, it's all downhill from the first bite. I tried to muscle through this food and finish my plate, because I hate to waste money, and to go plates were an absolute no....but I could not finish it, my wife didn't finish her plate either. This experience was a major disappointment for me, because I had high expectations because of this restaurants popularity. This would have been a 2 star review, but the waitress and service was so good, I gave an extra star. Add seasoning and flavor to the food, and this restaurant could possibly live up to the hype. I honestly don't know how I haven't done a Chuy's review before! Probably because I rarely take the time to take pictures of my food because I'm too busy eating it! Great Tex-Mex restaurant option! Last night in particular, we just had such a fantastic dining experience! From the staff members at the host stand to the service staff, everyone was fantastic! We arrived about an hour before closing and were told it would be a 20 minute wait time. They text you when your table is ready, which is great if you want to do some shopping nearby in the Summit. About 10 minutes later, our table was ready early! We sat on the outdoor patio since the weather was nice out. They also have a more enclosed patio option as well. Our server, Bailey, was working so hard! She immediately filled any request we had during our dinner. Quick, kind, and great service despite being very busy. The food is always delicious. We typically get the bean and cheese burrito and the nacho appetizer. I added Guac to the nachos last night and wasn't very impressed with it, but overall super yummy dinner. I also think their portions are decently sized for the price. I'm sure you all know already, but the creamy jalapeño dip is so good! Their salsa is more of a Pico de Gallo style and is normally packing a punch of heat. Chips are thin and crispy! We also regularly get food to-go. You can order pints of beans, rice, sauces, etc. and get their delicious handmade tortilla by the dozen (in addition to all of the regular menu items). Had a delicious dinner at Chuy's last night! I've been here several times in the past, but this is the first time I've reviewed it To begin, I just want to say that Chuy's boats one of the most gorgeous views in the city. Perched on the side of the Summit, the balcony offers views that stretch all the way down 280! So gorgeous! We were started off with chips, salsa, and creamy jalapeño sauce. The chips are the super thin crunchy ones that o love, and the salsa is more of a pico consistency and SO yummy with the perfect amount of spice. The creamy jalapeño sauce it perfection in and of itself. Almost like ranch dressing, but with a kick. This is my favorite sauce and can be purchased to take home with you. SO GOOD! I had the steak burrito and it was delicious. Big chunks of well flavored meat, cheese, and a big portion. I asked for the hatch chili sauce on the side because I couldn't remember if I liked it or not. It was yummy and savory and not nearly as spicy as I expected. The decried beans are some of the best I've had and the rice was also good. My friend had the steak fajitas and really enjoyed them. We tried a few different drinks with our meal, a strawberry mojito for her and a Paloma and a margarita for me. I thought the mojito tasted a little too much like strawberry syrup, I would have enjoyed it with a more subtle flavor. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. I think Chuy's is the best Tex-Mex restaurant in town. The decor is funky and quirky. The wait staff is young and enthusiastic, and it seems like they enjoy working here. I have always had pretty good service. Chips and salsa are great. The chips are thin and salty. The salsa is light and flavorful. I recommend the creamy jalapeno dip. No charge for it, but you do have to request it. This dip is delicious, and addictive. My favorite entrees are the Baja Tacos with fried fish, and the Tacos al Carbon. The Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom is also a favorite and fun to say. The entrees come with rice and beans. I always choose the green chili rice over Mexican rice, and the charro beans over refried beans. This place often has quite a wait list and I have waited over an hour for a table several times for dinner and for lunch. There is a reason for that waitlist and why people make the wait. Great food at a great price, spectacular ambiance inside and outside, and really friendly staff. It just seems like everyone in the joint is having a good time and really glad to be there, which makes me glad to be there too. Pro tip, use the app to go ahead and get on the list to save yourself some time. I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I went here with my wife and two friends last night and had another great meal. The menu is just the right size for a chain restaurant...enough to satisfy anyone but not so much that nothing is very good. In fact, most of what I have gotten is very good, well above average. Food - My favorites are the chilies rellanos (with any of the choices of meat in it) and the ONLY ON FRIDAY SPECIAL love me tender tacos. Beyond that, they have a long list of sauces with several different bases and a sauce for each dish. So, take some time to review the sauces and maybe get two on the side to see which one you like most with your dish. Desert - All I have had, and probably all I will ever have, has been the tres leches cake. It is very delicious with that spongy cake, just sweet enough creamy sauce, and fresh sliced strawberries on top. Drinks - They have a simple beer list (I would like to see them improve this) but have your Mexican standards. Coke products...yeah! But, I dont think I have ever had anything other than water and margaritas! Of course...margaritas are the thing here and they have so many multiple options for varying price ranges, flavors, and sizes. I cant get into all of it here, just know that margaritas are the thing and they have so many options that you will find one that suits your taste! Happy Hour - This is a do not miss event! There is a free nacho bar (known as the nacho car) that has includes queso, seasoned sirloin, and refried beans to top off your chips and salsa. Finally found a Mexican place in the area I love. I have visited several Mexican restaurants in the area that are ok but nothing that I really love. What a nice surprise to find such good Mexican food from a chain! The inside is really decorated in such a fun way. There's a lot to look at. We went on a Sunday after church and they are super busy. Parking here is not the greatest so you might have to park far away but it's worth it. Chips and salsa are provided for the table. The salsa tasted really fresh. For lunch I got a burrito. It was huge! And tasted great! My daughter got two tacos. Between the tacos and the rice and beans, the whole plate was covered. She really enjoyed hers. Hubby got a taco salad. Also enormous. He really liked his too. They have a large selection of t shirts which are really creative and cute. Star wars ones and the pikachuy were favorites. Chuy's might have just become my favorite restaurant at the Summit. I enjoy Mexican but it's not my favorite. But Chuy's Tex-Mex is on another level compared to your usual Mexican place. The atmosphere makes me think of Cinco de Mayo on any day. My friends and I got a full sample of what Chuy's offer. The salsa was not tomato base and was made with fresh ingredients. It was addictive and got more spicier the more I ate it. The queso is the real deal. It has an excellent blend of cheese and I couldn't stop eating this creamy goodness. But the best dip of all might have been the creamy jalepeno dip. The menu says you only get some if you know someone special. It's more tangy and creamy than spicy. I think I could make a meal out of the queso and jalepeno dip. I went with the special on a Sunday - Mama's stacked enchiladas. They were flour tortillas stuffed with beef and cheese and drenched in sauce. They looked like Mexican pancakes. Chuy's have several sauces you can drench your food in. That's always a plus for me! I think mine was in the green hatch chile sauce. It had some kick to it but I loved every second of it. However, if you love cheesy goodness and spiciness, I recommend the Boom-boom sauce. It is a spicier queso. Does sweet tea taste really good with Mexican food or is just my obsession with sweet tea? I chugged countless glasses of sweet tea down at Chuy's. Pretty good! I ordered the popular steak burrito with the hot sauce. Didn't realize when they say hot they mean HOT. The sauce was covering the entire burrito. It was tasty but definitely not for everyone. I got beans and rice with it and they were pretty good. I was happy the sides didn't taste plastic-y like the previous few Mex restaurants I've visited. Order yourself a margarita and then get yourself set up with this. Fill your basket with chips (I found Chuy's chips to be way too thin but they're still tasty and salted right) and then full a small bowl with salsa or queso or Mexi-beef. Or all three. Yum! Chuy's has been my go to restaurant for my birthday for the past 7 years and we go every now and then in between. We went in May, July, and August and we've been noticing it going downhill each time. First off we were told it would be an hour wait. That's fine, the girls can do a little shopping. It ended up being an hour and 45 minutes before we were seated (party of three). At about the hour mark I start seeing parties (4 and more) that arrived after us getting seated. After the 3rd party that arrived after us got called I decided to see what was up and immediately we got called up. I just let it go. Our server was good but the employees up front are clueless. I love to eat at chuys. Always good and a huge amount of food every time you go . There are some times you do have to wait a while to be seated but I don't ever mind. You have a lot of shops to walk into while waiting. I also love the fact you can sit out side to eat and the view is beautiful , always ask for creamy jalapeño sauce , it is so good. There salsa is amazing. I have never ever had anything bad there. My wife is GF and they always send out the manager to discuss that with her before ordering. If you haven't ever eaten there just try it , you will be glad you did. Try lunch first, not ever a wait for lunch. The only draw back here is trying to find a park, but if you will go to the left to the parking deck there is most always a park there , and your out of the weathers if it happens to rain. read more

Food is very good, quite upset tonight I called to place a pick up order and called on my way home as I live right by the summit so it would be ready to pick up when I pulled up. I waited on hold for 17 minutes, someone picked up 3 times just to keep placing me on hold. Chuy's is another place I frequented a lot more when I worked down 280. It is a place that I never had a bad meal, bad drink, or bad service. And my most recent visit was no different. As a matter of fact, the service was actually outstanding this go round. This may not be in the top 10 or even top 20 of places I would recommend in the Birmingham area. But their food is always solid, the service is always good, and the view is on point. The only downfalls I have about Chuy's are the parking and the small waiting area. If you go for a normal meal time, or in our case a little early, you will drive around looking for parking. Sometimes you luck out... sometimes you have to keep on driving. If I ever have to stand in the waiting area and don't have a seat, I feel like I am right in the way. But that can be avoided with a trip to the bar or wait outside. For the food, make sure whatever you order you get a side of creamy jalapeno. It is amazing with chips, on burritos, or anything else you can get on the menu. Also note that they have a nacho station set up in the bar during happy hour. If you want more than the table salsa, go take a visit to the trunk of this nacho car. This past visit I got the steak fajitas. I did it without tortillas, which made it not quite as good as it could have been. But the steak was so flavorful and tender, I'm sure it is outstanding with the tortillas. In the past, the chuychanga stands out as something I really enjoyed. Topped, of course with creamy jalapeno. With one star taken away for the parking issues, Chuy's is a very firm 4 star in my opinion... because "yay, I'm a fan". read more

Chuys at the Summit has been a longtime favorite of mine. No more! On my most recent visit, the bartender was incredibly rude and was incredibly rude to us in front of other patrons. We ended up leaving because no telling what he would have done to our food, and expressed our concern to the manager who was less than sympathetic. This is now the second time in the past year we've waited more than an hour to be seated only to have leave and go somewhere else because of the extremely poor service. I get it - with a 1 1/2 hour wait they don't think they need to please each and every customer but this type of treatment of patrons hopefully will come back to haunt them in the end. Chuy's decorative style is definitely one of the most "unique" in this area. They have a room called the Chihuahua Bar that is filled with pictures of dogs on the walls and another room with old metal hub caps attached to the ceiling! We ate during peak lunch time on a Sunday. We only waited about 15 minutes and our waitress Melodie brought chips and salsa with her as she introduced herself. Their chips are wonderfully thin and crispy. Their salsa is also one of the best in town. It's not sweet. Rather it's got a slight overbearing sourness mixed with cilantro that makes it absolutely scrumptious. We got lucky because they were currently celebrating Chuy's Green Chile Festival and featuring 5 "specials" that would not be on their menu much longer. We took advantage of that sales pitch and ordered 3 of them. Tammy ordered the Queso Fundido. This festival special was served on a hot skillet with a layer of melted jack cheese, roasted green chiles and generous helpings of chorizo. It's then topped with pico de gallo and cilantro. Tammy said it was very good especially when she ate it with their warm flour tortillas. Matthew ordered another special called Burrito Loco. Per the menu, it is a flour tortilla stuffed with Hatch Green Chile and Poblano peppers, jack cheese and charro beans. It is also covered in roasted pork green chile poblano sauce, roasted green chiles, marinated red onoins and served with green chile rice. This was also very good and Matthew cleaned his plate. I tried their Green Chile Street Tacos. My plate consisted of 3 tacos already filled with steak carnitas, cotija cheese, tomoatoes, roasted green chiles and cilantro. It tasted pretty good. The steak carnitas was a tad over cooked, but everything tasted delicious. Everything was served with a helping of refried beans, small salsa lettuce and green chile rice. Their chile rice was also very tasty. Rachel ordered the Chicken Boom Boom which was served with their Boom Boom sauce. It was the best tasting dish of the day. It was their boom boom sauce that was the hero. Sarah got the Fish tacos which came with 2 soft tortilla tacos filled with a nicely fried fish filet dressed in their homemade tartar sauce and purple cabbage. The decor inside is funny, stunning and you could take all the dining tables out of the place and you would immediately have a combo art gallery/museum! The strawberry Margarita my friend got was also delicious and it came in a color changing take home cup. The only odd drawback we had was at the front of the house, there was a 30 minute wait and my friend and I wanted to wait at the bar and get a drink. The front of house employees, as well as the bartenders were adamant about nobody was allowed to get a drink or wait at the bar. They refused service to my friend, another customer, and me while we waited for our table. You had to be seated at the bar for dinner in order to be served at the bar. They directed us to a waiting area outside, which was too hot and muggy to be out there. I've never been to a restaurant with a bar that refused service to multiple customers that wanted to buy a drink.
